Bartender who is also the manager is extremely condescending. The night before my friend and I were having a beer at that bar when it was not busy and he accidentally spilled his beer onto me and he went up and requested napkins to clean up the. She responded by kicking us out of the bar without any sort of cause for safety or causing disruption. While she was respectful enough and that is generous to offer us a refund over the phone later for the food we had already paid for and did not get before she kicked us out. She was incredibly unprofessional and I would not recommend this bar to anybody. read more

Staff is EXTREMELY RUDE, they don't care about their customers. Only worried about clean dishes. Jason behind bar ignores customers so he can wash glasses. The food is always good, the staff are always friendly, and the place is always clean. They have water bowls outside for your canine companion-- speaking of which, they welcome smaller well-behaved pets indoors (NOT the yappy and dog-triggered ones. Please be considerate). We bring our Rottweiler puppy, Chupa, and she always makes friends with other parties. This is definitely our favorite neighborhood bar (order the chicken sammy). The owner or the manager needs to look at and their surveillance and see the disaster that happened last night. My sister ordered the spiked hot cocoa special and the bartender went, put hot water, and then the alcohol. I then asked for the same thing so the bartender stopped and went to get a new cup and added hot water and put it on the bar. She then grabbed the alcohol, and instead of pouring the alcohol into my cup she poured it again into my sister cup. I made a comment about that, and the bartender told me that was wrong and smelled the cup that she put a double into, and says it smells boozy. And instead of adding alcohol from the bottle, she goes in pours some of my sister's mix into my cup and TOPS IT OFF WITH HOT WATER. So now my sister has a cup with 1.75 shots (whatever the serving amount is) and I have 0.25 with extra water. And this cost us $9 each. Extremely unprofessional read more

Met a cool guy and gal, played 3 games and the bartender care over after 2nd game and told us we needed to be "quiet" And she was getting a headache" due to patrons leaving due to "too much noise"? We were not loud. Tried to become even quieter. She then came over after 3rd game saying she would have to eject us if we didn't quiet down. Actually no patron left, she said they were "complaining" of our loudness. But actually no one left because of us. VERY high prices for a no frills, basic, casual dive bar.

Last night this was one of the only places open so naturally it was packed. My bf and I headed out through the snow and ice to participate in interacting with other humans, and stumbled upon this place. I sat at a tiny booth, and waited and waited and waited and waited for my boyfriend to return with my gin and tonic. The line was long and he finally brought it to me. We had a good conversation and just enjoyed being around other humans indoors. When he went to pay, I waited and waited and waited and waited for him to return from swiping his card. Apparently the line was long, and when his card was swiped, the cashier/bartender accidentally rang it up as zero. When he asked to adjust it, she just told him that it's on the house, and that it was so busy so just go ahead. I thought that was a very sweet gesture. We live down the street from this place and really, this way of just being neighborly when we are all homebound from a snowstorm spoke volumes to us. We will be back. Of all the Hawthorne Intitutions that have bitten the dust why not this sad hole. It's the same 10 patrons for 10 years at least. The same 3 bitchy bartenders. Please somebody buy this place and at the very least change the staff. It could be so good if somebody breathed life into it. This is not the case with most other Hawthorne bars. I'd suggest Space Room, Angelo's, even Zachs Shack and god forbid the hipster condo bars. All of them are still kicking. Not Mulligans. There isn't even any romantic Irish dive factor. This bar has been robbed and I have also seen customers walk into the kitchen, people order by pulling down masks, as well as seen 6 jammed onto one outdoor picnic bench. I did come on a friday- it was busy -I should have just left. Instead ordered a drink and sat outside on a table with glasses and plates. I preferred to sit at a table outside rather than in a packed bar. The bartender came out and reprimanded us about them getting a fine for sitting at a dirty table. It is only the cook and bartender working on a Friday night. No signs or extra employees indicate this rule/ fine. I very much wish to support our struggling bars and restaurants but after tonight's experience, I'll stay at home. read more

I met a blind date here Friday night and was surprised to find it pretty busy. Our server was there quickly and even brought the beers back with speed. Too bad she didn't get the order right. My date didn't mention it, figuring he could correct it with the next one. She still didn't. But once he mentioned it, she quickly fixed it. DISGUSTING! Do not eat here! We happened to find ourelves here because it was the only bar with a TV that wasn't packed during the NCAA tournament. Well, now I can see why it wasn't busy. The woman that was bartending when we first got there was super nice, but she told us three times that her shift was over and her replacement was late. She was really nice about it and I felt bad for her. About 25 minutes late for his shift, this greasy haired dude struts in eating his chinese takeout. He moseys on around the back of the bar and continues to eat his takeout! This is all while there are people waiting to order a drink and/or food. When he finally lifts his head up from his box of noodles, he goes over to take some drink orders --- with his chopsticks still hanging out of his mouth! I am not making this up. So he goes back to his noodles after taking the order and ten minutes later he is serving the guests their food, with his mouth full of Chinese takeout. He was eating while he was serving food! Did he not take Food Handler's Training? I can't even count the number of times he scratched his armpits and then grabbed a lemon for someones drink. Completely disgusting. We left because my boyfriend began to feel ill from the whole scene. read more

Smokey. Pool tables. Loud inebriated people. Yeah it's about what you'd expect. Feeling not-so-fancy on a Saturday night, my friend Laura and I hit this spot on Hawthorne. It's pretty much the Apple bee's of bars in my opinion. Pretty quick service. Strong drinks! Holy jack and coke, Batman!! The food was like the place, mediocre at best. Only I would order Nachos from an obviously Irish establishment. A woman appeared from nowhere to tell us that she would be the one making the nachos and since I didn't want the re fried beans, she would be building a nacho-like structure with cheese and beef and all the other goodies. I was hungry and building ANYTHING out of cheese gets my two thumbs up, baby. But alas, my visions of delicious cheesy skyscrapers and bridges were dashed when she brought back a huge plate of the most boring nachos I have ever consumed. Seriously, Taco Bell Nachos are better than this. Cold chips. Super dry beef. Nothing special at all. Especially, no cheese city for which I could be Queen. sigh. I've been here a couple times and have had nice bartenders but when I went last Saturday with a friend this bartender was very rude I get that she's the only one taking peoples orders but still you don't need to have a tone with your paying customers and I noticed on the counter that she had 5 credit cards just sitting there with the order slips I thought that was kinda odd. So my friend and I sat outside and there was other peoples beer glasses on the table which is fine no problem. The bartender comes out bringing other peoples food and she came over to our table and said "put the glasses at the end of the table!" With the rude tone again, we waited for our food didn't take too long which was good. She brought our food and was like "take your food!" And my friend was about to ask her for extra ketchup and she said "I'm not coming back out, come get it yourself!!"
