This review is describing my experience with everything pet bird related at this store: cage, food,…read moretoy selection; cleanliness and organization; and the worst part--that they sell birds. Not only do they sell birds, but they house the birds in a tiny, cramped, windowless room in tiny cages, with one fluorescent ceiling light and what appears to be no human interaction or fresh air or appropriate light. The room is about the size of my bedroom, and there are cages stacked to the ceiling full of birds, but the cages are tiny. Back when I didn't know any better in the '90s, I purchased two parrots from pet stores, as "hand-raised babies," but those stores had all the birds in appropriately sized cages with sunlight and lots of toys and out time with visitors if you sanitized your hands. They felt out the potential owners and didn't sell birds to just anyone. Now I know better, as I volunteer with a local parrot rescue that has to turn away hundreds of unwanted pet birds a year on top of the hundreds they take in. One of those volunteer duties is doing home visits for the adoption applicants, and one took me this week to near this store, and the applicant told me about it and showed me this terrible-looking seed mix they purchased there for pets. So I stopped by this store to see what/why they were selling, and the sad and crowded windowless bird-commodity room made me cry. I left in tears. I had first browsed the shelves for toys and food, and I found the shelves unorganized, out of stock on several items, and the floors dirty. Plus a cat running around. And the cages they were selling were all tiny as well. Here's something significant and equally emotional. Under "pets" on the front page of their website, they strongly encourage adopting from shelters for dogs and cats. SO WHY NOT BIRDS? Birds live longer, are more complicated, are often more intelligent and with more complex needs, and our rescues are overrun! WHY?!?! (Profit! And it's terrible.) This is their own words--why don't they believe this for birds??!! They should contact every rescue on the West Coast and find out how overrun we are. "We have in stock a selection of small pets which include birds, fish, rodents, reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids. If you are looking for a pet kitty or pooch, we HIGHLY urge you to check out the local shelter where there are great animals looking for loving homes. Mike's Feed & Pets does not sell dogs or cats but we do have a complete line of products to help you care for them"

Freddie handled the booking over the phone, no reservation needed at $10 a day. Check-in took five minutes; they set her up in a great, spacious tank with a lamp and fresh bark, and we left her with a packed lunch of greens and Mazuri from home. When we picked her up, Brandon and Ryan gave us the daily report. Turns out, Smalls spent her vacation roaming the store and occasionally trying to bust out through the back door. Luckily, the staff has excellent reflexes and stopped her escape attempts. Smalls was well-loved, well-fed, and safely contained. 10/10 would board our tiny criminal here again. Thank you, Reptile Room!

A month or so ago I visited the Reptile Room in search of a somewhat grown bearded dragon. I talked…read morewith the gentleman who was running the store happened to have a bearded dragon that looked to be what I was looking for. The only catch he told me was that he had a bad disposition and would get very agitated and try to bite anyone who got close to him. After allowing me to handle him till he calmed down a bit he offered to give him to me at no charge if I was willing to work with him. After going through some bonding exercises (and yes he did bite me once) he has come to settle down and now allows me to hold him and is adjusting well to his new home. The fact that I was given the bearded dragon only goes to show that the people at The Reptile Room really care about their animals and customers. I highly recommend The Reptile Room for service above and beyond!

*** Check food EXPIRATION Alert *** and keep that receipt…read more I rarely write 1-star reviews but decided to based on my interaction (Sunday, 9/14/25, 5pm) which is a mixed bag. I've purchased dog food for my pups many times at this location and never had a complaint/problem. Today will be my first mainly to warn customers of ***EXPIRED dog food. I'm not a stickler on expiration dates but selling bags 3-4 month (May 2025) passed is ridiculous/wrong! I usually buy a supply 2.5 weeks ahead of time if I know I'm running low. When I finally opened the bag a few days ago the food was obviously RANCID! Dogs will usually get excited in anticipation of their food...they got a whiff and walked away...it was very evident! Partly my fault for not checking but I would hope a store wouldn't sell OLD food. This is the first time it's happened but the interaction I had with the cashier wasn't pleasant. Flat out rude! "You have your receipt? It's open and we can't resell". Valid question but tone of this worker was very condescending! I get they want proof you bought from them but who keeps their receipt each time they buy their pets food...I guess I will now as bags must be unopened to return...um, how would I know it's BAD?!!! I mentioned "can I speak to Laura, the Manager as I was told (previous visit) I would need a receipt BUT there are exceptions and to ask". I even asked "can you work with the manufacturer?"....ignored. All I wanted was a replacement for: ****** $42 for a bag of 12lbs of Natural Balance I purchased....same item! In any case...I'll write the company and hope to get a voucher for a replacement and a better outcome. #annoyed

Pet Club is an establishment that's not too flashy on the outside (kind of looks like a large warehouse) but has much of what you need on the inside. I was impressed by the variety of pet foods they sell, as well as the sheer amount of cat trees on display. The toys were a bit overpriced, but everything else seemed similar or a little cheaper than the bigger chains. I'm not sure if they offer membership that would reward frequent shoppers. Located in a strip mall in Hayward, this store is easily spotted from Hesperian and not crowded, a big plus in my book. I think they also offer services but not entirely sure. My cats were happy with the treats I brought back!

The very next day ALL the leafs of that specific species fell off! The other plants were fine , I then called Saturday the very next day to ask about either an exchange or a refund and I spoke to a representative named Mike whose immediate response was "no! there's something wrong with your tank" / "all sales are final" Mike offered no help or tips or nothing just simply blame my tank, which already has shrimp and fish and other vegetation that is doing just fine........ Definitely do not recommend buying from here unless you know for a fact, if something doesn't work out, you're screwed no refunds, exchanges, or any help. Bad bad business practice

They take the time to answer questions and make sure you're making the right decisions for your tank instead of just trying to sell you something. One thing that really sets them apart is the products they carry. They have items on hand that you don't typically see at other stores--for example, I was able to find a roller mat gearbox repair kit there, which is something most places don't even stock. That kind of attention to what reefers actually need goes a long way. Their coral selection is also on another level. They consistently have more unique pieces than just about anywhere else I've seen, which makes it a great place to find something different and add real character to your tank. One thing I really appreciate is that the owners are always there and involved. You can tell they genuinely care about the store, the livestock, and making sure customers have a good experience. Overall, it's a very well-run store with a strong mix of knowledge, customer service, and unique inventory. Definitely a go-to spot if you're looking for both hard-to-find equipment and standout corals.

Thank you pet club for doing what is right and not selling live animals anymore! huge selection. It's like the dog version of Costco. good prices on everything. Way better prices than union busting pet food express, pet supplies plus, petvet, and petco. Pet club's prices sometimes even rival online retailers like chewy. No complicated rewards program or data mining BS (pet food express cashiers request your email and name at checkout now, despite there being NO rewards or incentives - this is data mining, they are selling your data.), just straight forward great prices. By far the best pet store in terms of value and selection in the East bay. The staff is all really nice but sometimes the store seems a little under staffed. Thats every store nowadays lately though. Only deducting one star because their pet wash is absolutely filthy (albeit far less gross than pet food express whose staff only "clean" the tubs by spraying them with water for 15 seconds). The concept of a self service pet wash requires a lot of upkeep and I feel if pet club invested some money into revamping the wash area and keeping it staffed, it would greatly benefit their business.
