This review is describing my experience with everything pet bird related at this store: cage, food,…read moretoy selection; cleanliness and organization; and the worst part--that they sell birds. Not only do they sell birds, but they house the birds in a tiny, cramped, windowless room in tiny cages, with one fluorescent ceiling light and what appears to be no human interaction or fresh air or appropriate light. The room is about the size of my bedroom, and there are cages stacked to the ceiling full of birds, but the cages are tiny. Back when I didn't know any better in the '90s, I purchased two parrots from pet stores, as "hand-raised babies," but those stores had all the birds in appropriately sized cages with sunlight and lots of toys and out time with visitors if you sanitized your hands. They felt out the potential owners and didn't sell birds to just anyone. Now I know better, as I volunteer with a local parrot rescue that has to turn away hundreds of unwanted pet birds a year on top of the hundreds they take in. One of those volunteer duties is doing home visits for the adoption applicants, and one took me this week to near this store, and the applicant told me about it and showed me this terrible-looking seed mix they purchased there for pets. So I stopped by this store to see what/why they were selling, and the sad and crowded windowless bird-commodity room made me cry. I left in tears. I had first browsed the shelves for toys and food, and I found the shelves unorganized, out of stock on several items, and the floors dirty. Plus a cat running around. And the cages they were selling were all tiny as well. Here's something significant and equally emotional. Under "pets" on the front page of their website, they strongly encourage adopting from shelters for dogs and cats. SO WHY NOT BIRDS? Birds live longer, are more complicated, are often more intelligent and with more complex needs, and our rescues are overrun! WHY?!?! (Profit! And it's terrible.) This is their own words--why don't they believe this for birds??!! They should contact every rescue on the West Coast and find out how overrun we are. "We have in stock a selection of small pets which include birds, fish, rodents, reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids. If you are looking for a pet kitty or pooch, we HIGHLY urge you to check out the local shelter where there are great animals looking for loving homes. The staff here are so helpful and polite. I am disabled, and they always offer to take the food to my car, even though it's only an 8 pound bag. Haha! Back when I was able-bodied and raising chickens and a duck, they'd load big bags of feed, scratch, and bales of straw and hay into my car--I figured it was a courtesy for big, bulk item customers. Come to find out, they're just incredibly kind and thoughtful regardless of what you buy! These are great folks selling great products. Keep your business local and build your community up one purchase at a time. This is one of the last remaining vestiges of a mom and pop pet store. Let's show them all the support we can while showing our pets all the love we can. It's a win-win-win!

The hay shelves were also quite empty. They only had the 40oz bag of the hay blend I needed for my bunnies (in opposed to 90oz I prefer), but better than not having it at all. I've been going to a different self-serve dog wash, and this place is by far the best I've been to. I won't be going anywhere else from now on. I was really impressed with the washing tubs, quality of shampoo, the dryer worked great and the price! An extra perk... I was the only one there, so we were able to pay, walk to the back, wash, dry, and be done all within 30 minutes.

I've purchased dog food for my pups many times at this location and never had a complaint/problem. Today will be my first mainly to warn customers of ***EXPIRED dog food. I'm not a stickler on expiration dates but selling bags 3-4 month (May 2025) passed is ridiculous/wrong! I usually buy a supply 2.5 weeks ahead of time if I know I'm running low. When I finally opened the bag a few days ago the food was obviously RANCID! Dogs will usually get excited in anticipation of their food...they got a whiff and walked away...it was very evident! Partly my fault for not checking but I would hope a store wouldn't sell OLD food. This is the first time it's happened but the interaction I had with the cashier wasn't pleasant. Flat out rude! "You have your receipt? It's open and we can't resell". Valid question but tone of this worker was very condescending! I get they want proof you bought from them but who keeps their receipt each time they buy their pets food...I guess I will now as bags must be unopened to return...um, how would I know it's BAD?!!! I mentioned "can I speak to Laura, the Manager as I was told (previous visit) I would need a receipt BUT there are exceptions and to ask". I even asked "can you work with the manufacturer?"....ignored. All I wanted was a replacement for: ****** $42 for a bag of 12lbs of Natural Balance I purchased....same item! In any case...I'll write the company and hope to get a voucher for a replacement and a better outcome. #annoyed

Pet Club is an establishment that's not too flashy on the outside (kind of looks like a large warehouse) but has much of what you need on the inside. I was impressed by the variety of pet foods they sell, as well as the sheer amount of cat trees on display. The toys were a bit overpriced, but everything else seemed similar or a little cheaper than the bigger chains. I'm not sure if they offer membership that would reward frequent shoppers. Located in a strip mall in Hayward, this store is easily spotted from Hesperian and not crowded, a big plus in my book. I think they also offer services but not entirely sure. My cats were happy with the treats I brought back!

They breed their own chicks in house which is a huge plus as you get it straight from the source. You see the walk through of the roosters and hens as well, literally the parents of your birds and they're all extremely healthy. The hens are also labeled and you're given a zoo-like biography of each breed which is amazing for those starting out + for kids to learn. They have all sorts of breeds, literally breeds I've never even heard of. The hatched chicks here are given mareks vaccination in house + sexed at birth for most breeds except silkies and a few others. I love how the staffs make themselves known but just let you wander and live in the moment without breathing down your back. The prices for feed and items are overall pretty good, items are labeled for the most part. Selection is huge. Many of the items are not priced with a label so they are just ignored and not bought as you can tell by the dust. One biggest drawback here that made it 4 stars instead of 5 is the lack of pricing on some items and the chicks/pullets. Nobody has time to ask for pricing for each individual chick and the staffs don't have a list, they have to check manually for each on their register which is insane. Maybe the store management is too lazy to put the pricing? Maybe they priced chicks differently per customers? Who knows. Luckily the pullets has a pricing sheet and the staffs were amazing about it. Overall, I'd take your family here to buy farm item, feeds and learn about the breeds. If you have time to spare, you can ask about pricing for each or just buy elsewhere.

I mostly get bedding and food for my chickens and bird seed of which they have a large selection. During the spring, they sell chicks as well and you have to check their website for types and days that you can get them and you have to line up early. I saw harness and leashes for chickens on my last visit! The service tends to be hit or miss but mostly miss. The ladies at the counter don't necessarily want to answer any questions and have several times waved me to a section when I asked for an item so I gave up asking questions. You have to pick and pay for your items and then provide the receipt to one of the helpers outside who will load the items in your vehicle. I have seen people pulling trailer loaded high with bales of hay. I haven't seen them selling eggs but they have chicken towards the back of the yard. If you pay with anything other than cash, even debit card, they will charge either a fixed amount or a flat fee, which tends to be a bit higher than most places. Take cash. Plenty of parking and it's in a quiet neighborhood. One of the last places left that sells affordable animal feed at a reasonable price!

The owner is very knowledgeable and honest about the hobby. All you have to do is ask. Prices are good for the quality and variety of fish. The surrounding area can come odd as a little suspect but don't let that deter you from visiting.
