Freddie handled the booking over the phone, no reservation needed at $10 a day. Check-in took five minutes; they set her up in a great, spacious tank with a lamp and fresh bark, and we left her with a packed lunch of greens and Mazuri from home. When we picked her up, Brandon and Ryan gave us the daily report. Turns out, Smalls spent her vacation roaming the store and occasionally trying to bust out through the back door. Luckily, the staff has excellent reflexes and stopped her escape attempts. Smalls was well-loved, well-fed, and safely contained. 10/10 would board our tiny criminal here again. A month or so ago I visited the Reptile Room in search of a somewhat grown bearded dragon. I talked with the gentleman who was running the store happened to have a bearded dragon that looked to be what I was looking for. The only catch he told me was that he had a bad disposition and would get very agitated and try to bite anyone who got close to him. After allowing me to handle him till he calmed down a bit he offered to give him to me at no charge if I was willing to work with him. After going through some bonding exercises (and yes he did bite me once) he has come to settle down and now allows me to hold him and is adjusting well to his new home. The fact that I was given the bearded dragon only goes to show that the people at The Reptile Room really care about their animals and customers. Looks like a great place to stop by to grab feeders or supplies if you're in a pinch. They do have a feeder menu and offer boarding for reptiles if you're out of town. I think they also host educational birthday parties and events too. They have beardies, sulcata tortoises, leopard geckos, uromastyx, some snakes and other geckos (gargoyle and crested I think), chameleons, and I think some water dragons near the exit. I thought it was neat that they had that large tower/pillar glass enclosure in the middle of their shop as well and a shop parrot too. I believe that most of their leopard geckos and pythons were in smaller enclosures/containers as they're for breeding/are breeders or something along those lines, but I'm hoping that they get time to stretch or get purchased to pet parents quickly. Overall not bad, I always love the opportunity to look at some cold blooded buddies, but I feel like this reptile shop is more of a community staple for reptile owners rather than somewhere an out of towner would make a must stop. read more

Our little guy was in perfect health and very well taken care of. I really appreciated that they use frozen rodents so that we could as well (safer for the snake and far less traumatic for me). Driving down the street and I saw a big sign saying Reptile Room. I had to check it out. If I had it my way i'd own a snake. They had all types of reptiles! Snakes, chameleons, frogs, lizards, tarantulas! A plethora of tanks and reptile set ups. The guy working the front dest was nice and knowledgeable. He had no problems answering our questions. Before you buy any animal from this place please check it for Mites. I've seen multiple animals including a green tree python with mites there. Therefore any of those animals for sale can have the potential to have mites. I purchased a boa here before and a rainbow boa here before and have had mites and a respiratory infection. Be wary. Extremely sad for the animals at this store... I came in looking for a little supply of Mazuri feed for my sulcata tortoise and just happen to see a tank full of juvenile sulcatas with no water, no food, and not enough light and looking unhealthy. I'm not sure how this place is getting any decent reviews but PLEASE avoid this place and take a moment to look at the reviews pointing out the awful conditions of this place by people who care. I wish I took pictures while I was there but I was honestly just horrified by what I was seeing. I have a bearded dragon who means the world to me and my boyfriend who now has his own interest in them after spending time with mine and since this place is local we thought it would be fun to stop by and look around, but as someone who simply cares about other living things, it was so depressing! ======== -The few enclosures at the front were pretty decent (probably for show) but once we went to the back portion of the store it was so sad. -The bearded dragons looked super underfed in tiny filthy enclosures with flickering lights that obviously barely work and one of the dragons was missing the end of its tail while another was missing some fingers. One of the dragons also seemed to have an eye problem :( -The snake enclosures were also super tiny and filthy. -There was a whole wall of geckos in these super tiny boxes barely bigger than my phone that were probably once see through but now they're so fogged up by dirt and filth all you can see are outlines of geckos laying down sick if not dead. I know leopard geckos are nocturnal but these looked a lot different than when I owned mine. -There were a couple slightly larger but still tiny enclosures housing multiple leopard geckos which you are NOT supposed to do, as they will fight and either hurt or kill each other. I couldn't see if they were hurt or missing any limbs due to the walls of the "enclosures" being so filthy. -many of the reptiles seemed to be missing fingers or parts of limbs so I'm assuming based on the conditions of each enclosure that this store just breeds for money or simply doesn't care enough to separate reptiles they way they need to be. -The store itself is just super dirty and gross. There are pieces of broken furniture laying around, dust and dirt everywhere even on the outside and inside if enclosures, spiderwebs and cobwebs everywhere, and there were Halloween style snake and lizard skeleton decorations (This is in May btw) which was weird but wouldn't stand out as bad if I wasn't 99% sure some of the reptiles in the store actually were dead or on the verge of death. Regardless, this place does NOT care about reptiles and should be shut down. read more

Does not take care of those animals; I see their enclosures with perpetually soiled water, poop everywhere, young reptiles living in groups with some on the verge of death. Staff is rude, on multiple occasions I sought out advice from them and they were immensely standoffish and not at all helpful and did not aid my problems on a reptile I purchased from them... lastly, they're expensive, like double the price of any better small reptile business. I got my baby leopard gecko. Too expensive .. I paid $250 all together but my gecko cost $89 .. his tank and the 3 things in it was over $160. I'm a first time gecko owner so I wanted to get everything he needed but seriously I could have bought this stuff at petco for less than $50 but for the most part my baby is so chill we be vibin lol The staff is really friendly though so that's why I gave them 3 stars. read more

WARNING!!!!!!! Do not bring your pets here to board!!!!! We paid them $100 to watch our bearded dragon for 10 days and came back to a traumatized & almost dead dragon. They had put him in a chameleon cage with no heater despite telling us that he'd be housed in a 30 gallon breeder. They said they'd feed him the same food we did which was Dubai roaches. When we called to say we were on our way they threw some crickets in his cage, We feel that's probably the only time he was fed. The girl on duty when we got there said "the owner told me to tell you that his snout is bloody because he kept bumping it into the glass, I'm sorry". Are you serious????????? A reptile store owner who knows that a boarded beardie is bumping his nose on glass and doesn't move him to a bigger enclosure. He felt it was OK to tell the owner that like it was no big deal. An individual as ignorant and irresponsible as this, either: A. Shouldn't run a reptile store since he seems ignorant to the fact that when a reptile bumps his nose on the glass enough times to make it bloody it means the enclosures way too small... or..... B. His store should be taken away from him if he feels like this kind of behavior is OK. That would indicate he doesn't care whatsoever about animals, (whether they're his or yours), but only about the money that he makes off them. We went to the vet and were told that our little guy was dehydrated and malnourished and that he had lacked the proper lighting so we needed to put him under lights immediately. My son called the store and told the owner what our vet had said. He started screaming at my son and told him that he was lying and slammed the phone down on him. Hopefully enough people will read this and spread the word to be on high alert about this Charlatan masquerading as a the "Reptile Room". Do not board your animals here if you want to see them alive again, and please don't support them or their abusive business practices. read more

I was looking forward to shopping at this specialty store, drove for over an hour to get there, I'm a lifelong reptile fan, 60 years old, but from the minute you pull in the parking lot and see all the half finished projects and garbage, then realize it's the same inside, it's disappointing." I was part of Quality Reptiles in Camarillo, California, 40 years ago, and the thing with any animal business is the need to clean constantly in a place like this or it'll smell like this place did... Which is south of just being a business full of terrariums... PLEASE, please, please consider finding and hiring young energetic staff to clean, you can get Kids who are interested in reptiles to work there for cheap especially if you find reptile fans, all you have to do is ask or put a sign up at the front counter. "We are hiring", and you'll get responses... in the meantime, I don't understand how you can expect people to be confident in the health of your animals when the ownership and staff are as distracted from cleaning, or as just plain lazy as they are. I was referred to the Reptile room by another store , what a great experience!! First of all when I called , the Staff were very polite helpful and informative. I requested a Emerald lizard which they had ! I mostly spoke with Rosie who was so gracious and she knows her stuff! We also purchase a Terrain with everything need , this whole set up and Lizard is for my Grandson's 13th birthday . Also I spoke to Logan who was equally polite and informative. Dude this place is not okay, do not shop here. So many not just sick and near dead animals here, but straight up dead animals left in enclosures so long they have basically mummified. Horror show. Animal abuse. Do not support a place that is more interested in selling an animal for hundreds of dollars but can't take the time or care to do some basic husbandry to nurse them back to health and keeps them on display in a state that shocking is an understatement. read more

I hope that this business improves or closes down. It is obvious that they don't care about the health or well being of most of the animals. I visited The Reptile Room with my boyfriend and we both noticed several major issues. Firstly, the enclosures for many of the animals were so filthy. There was poop and bugs in most of the tanks. You could tell that they hadn't been cleaned for a while. We even saw mites on one of the blue tongue skinks whose scales were sticking out. The uneaten food was left in the tanks, molding and attracting bugs. Pythons were given hides way too small for them. I was honestly shocked that a pet store could have conditions of this nature. Secondly, the animals looked unhealthy and unhappy. The baby bearded dragons were very inactive. Many of them were a lot skinnier than usual. There was no water in a lot of the dishes - it seemed that many of the animals were dehydrated. In a tank with several monitors, one of them was dead. The picture I included doesn't do it justice. It's body was already starting to shrivel so I have no idea how long they left it there. The staff was friendly but seemingly incompetent. I was talking to a customer who had just bought a ball python from them and, because of staff recommendation, they planned to keep them in an enclosure with three other ball pythons. I wanted to buy all of the animals just to get them out of that environment. The feeling of being in this store is not something that I can describe. It was very depressing and frustrating seeing these animals being neglected, locked in inadequate enclosures, unable to escape their own feces, dead friends, and bugs. Recently purchased a very healthy and great looking pied ball Python (Hendrix) from the Reptile Room. My girlfriend and I visited the Reptile Room just to look around without planning on buying anything because we had a trip planned the following week. We fell in love with Hendrix and told the owner we were interested, the owner said he would hold him for us and feed the snake while we were gone, which he did. The owner was also very informative and helped us out with setting up our enclosure. We've had Hendrix for about a month now and he is eating regularly and looking very healthy! read more

I purchased a ball python snake for my boyfriend on the 17th and after letting the baby snake become comfortable in her new home, we picked her up and discovered she was injected with TICS! Years ago I remember coming here and being amazed at all the reptiles, but also remember a scary incident. I wanted to potentially take my boyfriend here so I checked the yelp page but am really disappointed by the lack of care these living beings are getting from the photos and reviews. I remember there being giant GIANT anaconda or python snakes being stored inside wood cabinets in the main display room. I remember because I was looking at some reptiles on a display shelf and then the bottom cabinet covers started rattling as if something was trying to get out. There wasn't a secure lock but it was more like a hook securing the cabinet doors together. There was a small gap as the cabinet doors could open a bit and you could see the thick body of a snake inside! As a high schooler I was pretty scared by that memory. Now as an adult I look back and I'm not really sure if that was a legal, humane, or regulated way to store big snakes. read more

MITES!! I bought a beautiful Black Mexican Kingsnake from this location and she is horribly infested with mites. I noticed she was dehydrated and originally thought what I was seeing around her eyes were retained eye caps but when I got home to give her a soak I realised they're mites. She was in a critter keeper in a larger terrarium with other king snakes and baby corns, given that mites are very pervasive and spread like wildfire, no doubt they all have mites. Called the location to tell them and they were completely apathetic. Not sure about their return policy because I don't want to return her, I don't want to give her a death sentence. I also noticed a fair number of the animals have stuck shed, their humidity is off. All in all, horrible husbandry and a lack of care. I'm disgusted with them. I'll be emailing them hoping to contact the owner and if they take steps to rectify this for future patrons I'll update my review. I paid $300 for an animal that is very sick with parasites that are actively sucking her blood. Not. Happy. Pictures: in the water those are drowned mites, not dirt. This was after her initial soak and any dirt on her was off (and would be tan because she was on aspen bedding). Her eyes have mites around, although not nearly as many as there were. read more

I had just purchased two bearded dragons from The Reptile Room at the Nor-Cal Reptile Expo about a month ago. I was super excited to live so close to a reptile shop and the dragons we purchased are super healthy and eating very well. It is obvious they buy from other sources just to sell at reptile shows, because there store is FUCKED UP!!! I went to purchase some dubia roaches, while I was waiting I walked around. Nearly all the tanks are over crowded with animals who are mostly unhealthy looking or DEAD!! I will never shop at the store or advise people to purchase from them at reptile expos either. read more

I adopted Krissy here back in 7/11/22 as a first time Lizard owner and this place is a nice local place in Hayward to go to. They have a decent amount of Lizards, snakes, tortoises, and spiders. They even carry Horn Worms and Dubia Roaches which my Bearded Dragon loves a lot. The customer service is very helpful there and they seem to care about the reptiles there. Just about all the reptiles there were in the right UVB/ Humidity/ and heating. I didn't see one Bearded Dragon with possible impaction which is nice to see. I rescued Eddie from another reptile store in Berkeley(not going to say which store) and the same night we got him he couldn't do his restroom because he was impacted. The next day we brought him to our local reptile store here in Hayward at around 6:00pm to get help. Keep in mind the workers here has been working all day long and they are tired! The lady was very helpful and helped us inspect Eddie who confirmed he indeed has impaction most likely due to inproper heating. She told us what to do to help Eddie get better and on the same night we followed her instructions. We were able to save a reptile's life thanks to the Reptile Room and now Eddie is happily standing strong on a spider plant. I highly recommend coming to the Reptile Room because they have great knowledge and great feeders for your animal! read more

Whatever you do, do not buy an animal from this place. Just don't. We now have a dead chameleon and they took no responsibility. They just blamed everyone else. We asked for a male panther (in Sept. 2019) and all the employees agreed they picked a male for us (costing $300, almost $500 after supplies) and she ended up being a female and died from impacted eggs. We called to tell them what happened and she said she would call us back and never did. We called again today and when we told Shay what happened, she said it was the fault of the place she was boarded at (she died on Christmas 2019 - causing a lot of grief). The owner wasn't around to speak to and he rarely ever is (I wanted to know the species when we originally bought her and it took me multiple calls to finally get him). The place she was boarded at (E. Bay Vivarium) said there were no signs she was in distress and she was found dead the next morning with an egg sticking out of her. E. Bay Vivarium said they heard of three other incidents just this week of similar things happening from animals purchased from Reptile Room. Definitely go with a more reputable business when choosing to purchase a reptile. read more

They keep juvenile bearded dragons together in the same tank with sand. That's literally the worst things you can do as a bearded dragon owner or caretaker. Beardies fight with each other and sand or loose substrate causes impaction on them. Take your business somewhere else and don't continue to support these people. read more
