*** Check food EXPIRATION Alert *** and keep that receipt I rarely write 1-star reviews but decided to based on my interaction (Sunday, 9/14/25, 5pm) which is a mixed bag. I've purchased dog food for my pups many times at this location and never had a complaint/problem. Today will be my first mainly to warn customers of ***EXPIRED dog food. I'm not a stickler on expiration dates but selling bags 3-4 month (May 2025) passed is ridiculous/wrong! I usually buy a supply 2.5 weeks ahead of time if I know I'm running low. When I finally opened the bag a few days ago the food was obviously RANCID! Dogs will usually get excited in anticipation of their food...they got a whiff and walked away...it was very evident! Partly my fault for not checking but I would hope a store wouldn't sell OLD food. This is the first time it's happened but the interaction I had with the cashier wasn't pleasant. Flat out rude! "You have your receipt? It's open and we can't resell". Valid question but tone of this worker was very condescending! I get they want proof you bought from them but who keeps their receipt each time they buy their pets food...I guess I will now as bags must be unopened to return...um, how would I know it's BAD?!!! I mentioned "can I speak to Laura, the Manager as I was told (previous visit) I would need a receipt BUT there are exceptions and to ask". I even asked "can you work with the manufacturer?"....ignored. All I wanted was a replacement for: ****** $42 for a bag of 12lbs of Natural Balance I purchased....same item! In any case...I'll write the company and hope to get a voucher for a replacement and a better outcome. #annoyed read more

Good price, a lot of varieties and have some unique cat toys with reasonable prices that you can't find them anywhere else. My cat loves the toy that I bought. Employees were friendly. The only complaint that I have is, when I was shopping there, suddenly I smelled a strong wave of marijuana. Not sure where it came from, outside, inside, customers? I am sensitive to that smell. So, I had to cover my nose and ran to the other side of the shop right away. read more

As someone who works hard so her cats can have a better life, I'm always looking for pet shops that offer quality goods and services without breaking the bank. Pet Club is an establishment that's not too flashy on the outside (kind of looks like a large warehouse) but has much of what you need on the inside. I was impressed by the variety of pet foods they sell, as well as the sheer amount of cat trees on display. The toys were a bit overpriced, but everything else seemed similar or a little cheaper than the bigger chains. I'm not sure if they offer membership that would reward frequent shoppers. Located in a strip mall in Hayward, this store is easily spotted from Hesperian and not crowded, a big plus in my book. I think they also offer services but not entirely sure. Checked the date and they were almost a year over the exp date. Of course they wouldn't give me a refund (janky business) but no exchange either ? Staff here are totally unhelpful. Called to check if they had a 54" dog kennel in stock. The woman on the phone said yes, they did have it in stock. Drove all the way down there after a long day at work to get the kennel for dog who recently had CCL surgery and needs to be crated. They even CARRY that size kennel. The woman who "helped" me at the store led me to the aisle the the kennels, pointed to a 30" inch kennel on display and said "is it that one?" And walked away. My girlfriend and I visit this store regularly. We own several aquariums as well as birds, and Pet Club has become essential to the health and happiness of our pets. Their selection of frozen and live foods for fish is outstanding -- truly one of the best we've found. One employee who deserves special recognition is Norma. She is always knowledgeable, kind, and willing to go the extra mile to make sure we find exactly what we need. Her dedication and genuine care make every visit a great experience. Admittedly, I get most of my pet stuff online as it's easier but Pet Club came through last weekend when we needed something immediately. My aunt wanted to surprise a small family member with a new fish tank. While she got the fish tank on trip number one, a follow up visit was needed to actually get the fish and the food. As most retailers are, Pet Club is short on staff and very busy. We patiently waited until someone could help us choose fish to go. The associate who ended up helping us was great. Not only was he helpful in picking out the correct fish for our tank, but he was very patient with our (many) dumb questions. He even gave me some pointers on what food to purchase. I didn't get his name, but I appreciate the gentleman with the tattoos on his face. Thank you for taking the time to help us and I look forward to coming back to Pet Club anytime we need stuff for our new fish. read more

I visit this store weekly for all of my cats' and fish's needs, and every time I'm greeted with friendly smiles and exceptional service. Lorie and Norma always go above and beyond with helpful recommendations and genuine care, which makes each visit such a positive experience. Their kindness and knowledge keep me coming back. Well, we have been going to the one in San Mateo, and now this one is in Hayward for over 15 years. It's always well stocked, friendly staff super helpful. Today, the Cashier Brenda, who has served us over a dozen times. Had a customer before us who just ate her up because she didn't like the way she had packed her bags. It was beyond crazy. Let me see your manager, and for what Brenda offered to rearrange the items. Oh no, let's go crazy because we can. She off loaded on the manager what had taken place. Leaving out her tone and down, talk to Brenda, utterly pathetic. And yes, the manager calmed crazy down. The misses had my arm as the poor victim end of the world. bs need a serious go screw yourself. No one needs to be treated in this manner. If it was in my business, I would have banned the nut. read more

Pet club is one of the few still standing pet stores besides petco & pet smart. Prices are reasonable & there's a lot of options for all types of pets. Has a lot of what you may be looking for. Would definitely go back & recommend for pet products. read more

On Friday morning 11/24 our dog was experiencing an upset stomach. We called around to see what pet store carried a specific brand of dog food that helped our dog in the past. We were happy to hear this store carried that brand. (FROMM) We made the 30 minute drive out. I waited in the car with the dog and kids while my wife went inside. She comes back and as we drive away she tells me she had to have a conversation with the security guard. She tells me the minute she walked in, she was followed by said security guard. Before she looked at anything, before she touched anything. She went down several aisles and confirmed her suspicions that she was absolutely, 100 % being followed. She had to stop and assure the security guard that she had the money to purchase the items she was there for to which he replied "oh ok, go ahead and shop." I was fucking LIVID. Why????? I called the store and asked to speak to the manager. I was transferred to a man who explained he was the supervisor and that the manager was out. I asked him what the protocol was for following people around and he said it would happen if someone looked "suspicious." So what was suspicious about my wife that she was followed before she even had a chance to touch anything?? That she is Black???? At this point, this is the only thing that comes to mind. I told the supervisor this behavior was completely disgusting . We are in the Bay Area. It's 2023. People should not feel uncomfortable and unwelcome for no damn reason. The supervisor told me he would be telling the manager to call me back and that I should receive a call no later than Sunday. It's Monday 11/27 and of course, I have not heard back from anyone. I'm not about to play phone tag with anyone. This store needs to get their shit together and properly educate their employees. I could just let this go but I'm so sick of this type of behavior. My wife should not have to prove or explain herself to be treated with respect. read more

Great Pet Club location in the Bay. For the longest time, I never knew what a Pet Club was or realized that it was a discount store for all things pets! A few years ago, I finally came to the Hayward one and I was hooked. The prices are great and you can find many of your major brand name items here. They sell everything for dogs, cats, fish, reptiles, etc. The only thing to note is that this location does not have a pet wash. The employees are super friendly and this is a locally owned franchise. Even as a discount pet store, they allow returns with receipts and honestly have some of the best prices for pet things. I come here primarily to pick up things for my dog and almost never leave empty handed. Dry dog food can get expensive, but there are sales every week and they run some good sales, even for the brand name things. Lots of treat and toy options, even beds and leashes - I mean, you think you need something, you are more than likely to find it here. My favorite things to stock up on here are: kibble, wipes, shampoos, and poop bags! Occasionally, I'll pick up some raw food and bone marrow for my husky. A disclaimer though - they do not always have things in stock and brand and items rotate based on demand and availability! They also have VIP pet care here on weekends and that line can get LONG. However, it moves quickly and there is a huge parking lot so you never have to worry about parking. If you are looking for a specific item, you can always call ahead and inquire. Be forewarned that they don't have that much staff, so you might be on hold for a bit. The location is pretty old and run down, but you do find some quality items here! read more

There is no lie - the prices at Pet Club are literally half of other pet stores. I come here regularly for my rabbit's hay, litter and other needs. They have everything any bunny owner needs. I laughed when I saw the price of the exact same hay at another popular pet store. They sold it there for double the price. These corportations really mark up prices for dry grass?! I'm sticking to Pet Club and I even get coupons in the mail. read more

This is one of 2 locations within 30 miles that carries my dog's food. When I got there, they didn't have a big selection which isn't awful, but they didn't have all of the pricing listed. So, I went to pay and ended up paying like $50 for the Bison and Beef (the one flavor conveniently not labeled and about $20 more than the next most expensive bag). When I got home and opened it, it appears it hadn't been stored properly. The nuggets (generally loose) where all clumped in a solid block and covered in icicles. Which tells me it had been permitted to thaw and then refrozen... not a good thing when handling raw food. Other than that, the service was friendly, but I won't be back. read more

Big pet store with a decent selection and great prices. Big parking lot with ample parking. A friend just got a puppy and need some items. Prices for good puppy food was better here than online! Other items were also well priced but we didn't find everything we were looking for. The store was clean but the layout could be a little better. Dog toys were in a few different areas. At the time we were there, they were running their clinic. There was an orderly line of about ten dogs with their humans. Don't know about clinic pricing since we did come for that but everyone seemed pretty happy coming out of there. Customer service was decent. Best thing about this place was the friendly customers and their dogs. Met some great people. I guess it helped having an adorable puppy with us... I have been meaning to write this for a few weeks. It all started with a bad day at work and coming in to pick up my monthly needs for my 3 dogs, 1 cat1 1 bird and 3 fish tanks. I had to use the bathroom and I noticed it was out of order. I was not happy with the response why it was closed, so I let off a little steam. This is when the heroes showed up. I had 2 different employees come up to me and cushioned everything, after they explained. I even ran into someone in the parking lot who also was very pleasing to speak with about the issue. I must say they way they handled everything was perfect. Now I know why I go there year after year. I always do and will continue to send all my family and freinds to Pet Club, Hayward. I'm not so sure about buying any goldfish or betta fishes here ever again. I bought 5 fishes last Saturday and 3 of them died hours later.  I was able to get reimbursed, found out I was overcharged when I went back. I got 2 female betta fish who were in the same tank for part of my reimbursement. They looked like they got along really well and were so happy in their tank. One of the betta fish died today. I'm very sad about this. I used the water conditioner and other things that were recommended. Update review #1: I think I know why my fish died. Only 2 survived...the lady working at the fish department used her hands to grab the fish instead of a fishnet. She was wearing perfume/lotion...not sure if she put some on her arms/wrists. I'm really devastated and kinda upset I wasted my money. At least the $26.99 fish survived. Update review #2: **SEE THE PICTURE WITH CHRISTINA'S COMMENT** This is a comment from Christina, the lady who helped me the day I got my fish. She helped me make sure I got everything I needed to set up my new tank. She said I lied about her perfume/lotion killing my fish; however, they died shortly that same day after brining them home (and they weren't even out of the bags yet)!!! Christina used her bare hands grabbing all the fishes and her arm went into the fish tanks. Of course I deserve to get free fish to replace the ones she killed. Unfortunately, the 2 betta fish I got ended up dying too...and guess what? She used her bare hands to grab them. Bad idea on Christina to respond back blaming the customer. I've had goldfishes for many years and never had I had a staff member use their bare hands to grab all the fish. If you were smart, you wouldn't be wearing perfume or lotion as those chemicals will mix into the water of the fish when you're putting half of your arm down in the fish tank. I should've recorded you grabbing the fish. Hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. read more

They have a smaller selection of items compared to the bigger Pet Store chains, but a lot of their items including the toys are cheaper. I'm giving 2 stars because of 1) the ambiance and 2) the staff. Walking in, you immediately recognize that it is nothing like PetSmart and Petco. It smells and looks dirty. Dim lights and just dirty everything lol Next, the staff always seem like they don't want to work there. I have asked for help a lot of times and I feel like they always respond with such a bad attitude. One of the older male workers did not even bother to look at us. He was monotonous and just did not care at all. Customer service is a tough job, as well as retail. But, customers who are unproblematic and seeking for help should not be treated in such way. Finally, I tried asking if they do the rewards just like PetSmart and Petco, the older lady responded in a snarky: "No we don't do that. Everyone here pays the same price. No discounts. Bought a toy here for my dog and it broke 2 weeks later. We didn't have the receipt (which i understand they clearly have a strict policy) but we had the card we paid with. Manager was rude, immediately told us no. I explained to her that it broke and that is not our fault, we're just here to exchange it for the exact same one. Told us she needed to see our bank statement to ensure we bought it there. I think it's stupid that they can't look up transactions with your credit/ debit card but whatever. She ended up doing it for us but had hella attitude and made it seem like we were a bother, definitely not understanding. Wont be shopping here ever again. Sit. Shake hands. Speak. Good boy! This location always have my good boyyyssss favorite puppy size biscuits. I go in, I go out, viola, done. Just the way I like it. However, if you want to get shots done for your boyyysss, expect 1.5 hour wait. I'm not kidding around, this is one of the busiest location I have ever EVER been to!!!! This neighborhood loves them their dawgs and want to keep them healthy. You gotta appreciate that. But my recommendation is to take them to another VIP location. Although it's fun looking at all the different breeds for 1.5 hours, it's absolutely, ridiculously, seriously, much too long of a wait. read more
