I've been a patient of Dr. Holder for several months. She is thoughtful, compassionate, and, most of all, a highly knowledgeable dermatologist. I recently moved to the area, and I'm so grateful that I discovered her practice! Dr. Holder recommended Fraxel to treat some of the issues I had been experiencing. I have a fairly low pain tolerance, and she ensured I would be comfortable during the procedure (I've already been back for the second of three treatments...so she kept her promise!) Dr. Holder is a perfectionist with such attention to detail that you come away feeling like you've truly never seen a dermatologist before coming to this practice. Here's what I've experienced at this practice and why I recommend it so wholeheartedly: - I first came to Dr. Holder's practice in 2023, wanting to try botox for the first time. It was a new experience, and Dr. Holder listened carefully to understand my expectations and then patiently talked me through everything that I should expect. The way she directs her team before, during, and after procedures instills so much confidence, especially for first time patients. - At the beginning of this year, hormones were wreaking havoc on my skin and giving me with terrible acne and rosacea. Fed up, I sent Dr. Holder's office an email, and they agreed to see me right away. They were so responsive and reassuring. I had called to ask about a particular treatment to see if it provided at their office. The receptionist I spoke to was so rude. She couldn't even tell me what treatment is performed at the office. She just wanted me to come in to the office for a consultation. But I'm sorry I'm not going to come for a consultation until I know what treatments are provided for my ailment especially since every consultation cost money. A big THANK YOU to Dr. Holder and her team for my procedure yesterday! As a 55yo fair-skinned woman, I came to Dr. Holder yesterday for red vein removal on my chin. I've noticed that as I age, I need to use heavier foundation on my chin due to fine red lines that give my skin a reddish appearance. I had previously gone to Dr. Holder twice for chemical peels which were, both times, a great experience (she explains every step and does several things to help comfort you throughout each procedure). Because the peels really enhanced the appearance of my skin, I asked her about the veins in my chin and finally made an appt to get them removed. The treatment she used was a laser procedure called Excel V and, just like with the chemical peels, she explained everything she was doing and what I could expect when the treatment was over. The actual procedure only took about 15 minutes and before I knew it, I was checking out and being given the follow-up care (which Dr. Holder is very passionate about and her staff will take the time to answer all of your questions). Today (the day after) my chin looks AMAZING, soft and vein-free! Aside from being thorough and incredibly knowledgeable, Dr. Holder and her team give you such personal treatment you'll feel like you're part of a family. Dr. Holder goes ABOVE and BEYOND what's required of a dermatologist. After my pregnancy over three years ago, I started developing a series of brown spots on my back, stomach, chest, and arms. They get more noticeable in the warmer, sunnier months. I have seen two doctors about it and treated with over the counter topical ointments. Nothing worked for two years. I called Park Slope Dermatology in August 2020 and got on the schedule within a week or so as a new patient. The office does not take insurance, but let me just say that Dr. Holder cares deeply about what her patients can and should cover. Due to COVID-related lay-offs, I am uninsured and am a self-pay patient anyways. I told her this up front and she kept this in mind with every decision on what to do. Wanting to rule out the serious diagnosis options, she did a biopsy on my first visit and it came back inconclusive. The lab suggested we do another one, but she didn't want me to waste the money. Instead, she tried alternate treatments first in the form of prescribed compound ointments. We didn't realize this at the time, but one of the components of the compound was $500, which brought the ointment total to $650+ on top of my $250 biopsy fee, the doctor visit, and other pharmacy antibiotics for the biopsy site. Long story short, the pharmacy and Dr. Holder worked with me to remove that element of the compound to try that first, so my total dropped down to under $100 for the treatment. I went back to see Dr. Holder about eight weeks later, and she waived my visit fee. She prescribed a refill with the $500 component added this time to make sure we got rid of the spots, but called the pharmacy to negotiate a lower price. She got it down to $250 and then lower to $100 that I had to pay myself. I was so grateful. Also, I got a surprise bill in the mail for almost $1800 from the biopsy testing company and called Dr. Holder to ask her about it. We did not discuss this expense beforehand, so she worked with them to see what we could do about it. Well, after about a month ... it disappeared and went to $0 owed. Incredible. I have my final follow-up visit with her today after another six weeks of daily ointment applications and I am very happy to say that the spots are almost completely gone. This is a huge deal! More than anything, Dr. Holder is extremely knowledgeable, kind, and innovative in her practice. She wants the best for her patients and personally calls me on her days off and after hours to check in on me. She is the best! read more

They don't use eye shields for procedures that require the use of eye shields. Instead, they just not treat the eye area. They didn't tell me this over the phone. The price seemed good but them not treating eye area made that money a waste. A lot of tension between the doctor and her assistant. The dr told me to "just relax" which was impossible next to them bickering and the assistant almost poking out my eye, the dr reprimanding her. The dr started out by smth like "tell me all your concerns, often doctors don't listen". After 2 (small) of those concerns she said we just have to move to doing the treatment and if I have more to ask her about - I need to make another appointment lollllll read more

I want to thank Dr. Holder for doing what many other dermatologist failed to do: Look at my skin and ask for a detailed history. I was suffering with a difficult skin condition for 20 years. I have seen countless dermatologist who provided band-aid solutions or worsened my skin. I was told "nothing more can be done" or "your skin type can't handle that treatment." I went to her and have never looked back. With the first treatment, I saw 70% improvement. I couldn't believe it. People at work were commenting on the dramatic improvement. I was very excited about coming in and meeting with the doctor however when I arrived, her secretary didn't even let me in and advised me to have a seat at a coffee shop near by since I arrived before my appointment. While we were talking, the doctor yelled on the intercom that my appointment was later on and I should return then. The level of professionalism has made itself clear at that precise second and I refuse to spend a dime with someone that behaves as such, imagine $1,500.00 per treatment. If i could give A ZERO i would..... Dr. Holder was treating my non speaking English cousin for acne skin condition. Mind you, she does not take insurance so we were paying $200 every visit which was completely fine until now............. My cousin went in the office and had a treatment that was regularly $200....she finished her treatment and told her that her service was now $250.... How do you just raise your price out of no where without notifying your client of a $50 increase!!!!!!!!! This is not it, she left me a voice mail telling me that she left me two voice mails and that shes busy to return phone calls. She was extremely rude! just rude. Best Dermatologist I have ever had! I must say I was hesitant to go because of all of the negatives reviews on here but I have never had skin this beautiful in my life. I constantly get compliments. She has a basement entrance to her office door but her office itself is on the second floor. I have had terrible eczema and have tried every product as an adult and child and have seen more than 20 dermatologist, but no one has gotten my skin this clear. I don't have an acne problem so I can't speak on that but I'm truly amazed at the way my skin has been after these peels. The office is very clean, Dr. Holder and her staff and mother are incredibly nice. Yes, I did spend a lot on products mostly outside of the office that she recommended but it truly worked. I'm saddened to see such terrible reviews because she deserves the business. She doesn't take insurance but she did tell me that she works with insurances to get reimbursements, but I always end up paying out of pocket because I don't like the dermatologists on my plan. As a doctor myself I'm very critical but I'm so happy I found my lifelong dermatologist. read more

I had two large patches of hair on the crown of my head that had fallen out from Alopecia and stress. My scalp was slick in those areas. Hair is not the most important thing in my life but the large patches had me feeling ashamed of my appearance and losing confidence. I tried to wear wigs but it was too hot. I could not wear hats at my job. I looked in the phone book and online for a dermatologist in Brooklyn. I saw doctor Holder's web site and read that she deals with all skin types including women of color that impressed me. I went on yelp to see the reviews.  There was a mixed bag. Some people complaining about prices and other things. What was important to me were the people who had results I have been going to Dr. Holder about six nonths but even after the first appointment my scalp started to show little sprigs of hair. If you could see the difference in how my scalp looks now you would be amazed. I am amazed. Dr. Holder has really given me my confidence back just from my hair growing back. No more hiding behind wigs and scarves.  Dr. Holder is personable and takes the time to explain the process.   She doesn't give you any false hopes and she lets her work speak for itself. The office is nice and Hiasen, her receptinist/assistant is great. Haisen will always try to accommodate you if the schedule is not booked solid. I am pleased that I came to this office. I went here many years ago for what I believe was a weird random skin infection. Let's see what I remember.. Oh yes: She took my picture against my will, shoved a q-tip up my nose, tried to hard sell me on a line of products and forced me to play a game of phone tag to get my test results. I tried to call her for them but she was always busy. Never got the results even though she could have mailed or emailed them. Oddly aggressive and mean woman who I felt actively disliked me for no good reason. I have crap skin so she missed out on a good patient. read more

After more than 6 years battling what I thought was rosacea and thousands of dollars spent on expensive treatments, lasers and doctor's visits, I decided to visit Dr. Holder for yet another attempt at a laser treatment. Well, she's completely transformed my skin and I'll never go to another derm. I'm really no longer even dealing with rosacea. She was the first dermatologist I've seen this decade (and I've been to at least a dozen) to take the time to look closely and evaluate my condition. After a careful and very thorough examination, all done with excellent care and concern, she advised me NOT to get the laser (mind you, losing that income) and put me on a very simple (and inexpensive!) skincare regimen to treat Seborrheic dermatitis ("seb derm"), a condition I had apparently been dealing with for years and years and didn't even know it that was intensifying my redness and preventing my rosacea from being cured. After just a week or two on Dr. Holder's plan my skin is at least 80% improved, to the point that I don't even notice the rosacea. She was the only doctor who took the time to treat me properly. Since I've been in her care she's been very helpful and communicative with any questions I've had on email. I've gone on to peels with her too, which have been excellent and continue to improve the quality of my skin. There are mixed reviews on Yelp and I get that a few people had some negative experiences with her staff, and that's too bad - in my experience, Dr. Holder's practice may be unconventional but for good reason (they ask people to arrive exactly on time to ensure privacy among patients, for instance). I had to take the time to leave a review because I'm just so grateful to Dr. Holder and look forward to many more years under her care. read more

She and her assistant pamper you- from herbal tea in the waiting room to cooling ice packs at the end of procedures- and Dr. Holder is always there for you via email and telephone for any questions or concerns. Dr. Holder is one of the best dermatologist I've been to over the years. I've had troubling acne and scars since I was in high school. I went all over the city to multiple dermatologist and none of them were able to help. Dr. Holder is so great because she was the only doctor to explain to me what was wrong with my skin and to listen to what worked in the past and what didn't. Since Im a mix of Latin American and Jamaican, Dr Holder made a regiment fit to my skin type. She has done wonders for me and now a days I'm always getting compliments on my skin. Do NOT use this dermatologist. She gave me a steroid injection for cyst on my forehead that proceeded to sink in very deeply. Yes, a side effect sometimes, but I've spoken to a couple of plastic surgeons who were shocked at the amount she must have put in. I had to spend $700 on fillers to hide this, and I can only hope that eventually the fat that was atrophied will grow back on its own. Also, she's very pushy with products, and kept telling me how great she was. Not what you want to hear from a doctor - the proof is in the results. I'd rather have someone treat me with no personality and knew what they were doing. Also, I was told that the initial $200 that I spent on my first consult would be applied toward a future service if I came back. I did, but they didn't honor that. It was only if I had something done that day. Terrible! read more

I went to Dr. Holder after reading all her stellar reviews. First of all she and her receptionist were extremely friendly and the office was comfortable. BUT I have to be honest and report that I went in because I was having trouble finding an eye cream that wont irritate my eyes and $350 later I'm still in the same boat. She sent me home with very expensive products (that you can get at CVS for half the price,btw) and they don't work for me. And the worst part is that Dr. Holder didn't even look at me eyes, she heard the word "sensitive' and was convinced she knew what would be perfect for me. Instead of sending me home with samples to try. She seemed like more of a business woman than a Dr. to me. I spoke to her office person about how unhappy I am and she said she was going to have the Dr. call me but I never got a call back. The 'beauty tech' at Duane Reade could have given me the same information for free. read more

After battling bad acne for a year and trying everything, I went to Dr. Holder and her regimen basically stopped my acne after three months, gently and with no irritation. She listened to me when I told her what didn't work for me, and her regimen made sense- combining mild face washes with prescription strength stuff. I continue to use the products she recommended to me, but I couldn't afford to keep up with the peels, unfortunately. I'm pretty sure I'd still have acne if I didn't find her. read more

I have never had acne in my life, even as a teenager, and at age 25 it came out of nowhere. Hesitant of acne medication, I tried for months to cure it naturally taking all different kinds of supplements and changing my diet. Finally, when nothing was working I decided to see Dr. Holder. She is a miracle worker! My first visit I was there for over an hour. She spent 30 minutes just getting to know me, my health history, and even drew a diagram to help me to understand where my acne was coming from. She then gave me my first chemical peel, which I was so nervous about, but was FINE. She really knows what she is doing and makes sure you get the the proper after care. Afterwords, she sat me down and wrote me a detailed description of my "regimen" for the next 6 weeks. I loved her off the bat because she took the time to detail out my next steps and set me up for success. After 2 more visits and my third chemical peel I was really starting to see a difference! Her method / the medication she prescribed me was working! Although chemical peels seem aggressive, if you want to get rid of your acne forever it's the only way and there are no negative long-term effects. In fact, your skin will feel better afterwards! My fourth visit she performed a microdermabrasion, which basically exfoliates your dead skin, and wasn't scary at all. My skin was GLOWING. Because of Dr. Holder my skin looks better now than it did before I got acne. I honestly can't say enough good things about her. If you want a doctor that not only cares enough to spend time with you, but also will help you clear your skin go see Dr. Holder - she will help you! I had unexplained discoloration on my face and requested an appointment on her website and her office called me the same day and was able to see me that afternoon. The office is really nice and welcoming and is conveniently located. Dr. Holder is on the "pushy" side and barely let's you get a word in edge wise. I needed two different prescriptions to fix my issue and the Dr gave me a bunch of samples for one prescription, so I only had to purchase one cream, which was great!!! WONDERFUL dermatologist. During the shut down I developed a severe skin condition. After a telehealth visit (with another doctor) and an in person visit which lasted 5 minutes, I decided I really needed help. I did not want to use one of the large practices where you make an appointment with an experienced physician but that is not who sees you. I read Dr. Holders reviews and gave her a try. I have a complex medical history. She spent 90 minutes with me and put together a custom regimen of alternating medications. She checked in on me frequently and changed medications as needed. It took 2 months since it had gone unresolved for quite some time.. but totally resolved. She suggested a biopsy given the unusual presentation and I totally agreed. The biopsy was perfectly done and healed beautifully. I would return to her for any skin condition. If you have a bit of a wait, it just means she is giving her full attention to the prior patient. read more

Phenomenal Dermatologist: I recently had a Fraxel skin resurfacing laser treatment for my hands, and the results have been remarkable. Dr. Holder is a master with the procedure and goes to great lengths to be sure that the treated area is well numbed (give about 2 hours for numbing to take effect before the procedure). As a consequence of the numbing step, the procedure was a breeze, completely discomfort free. Next she applies creams and gives a detailed moisturizing plan for the following weeks. I was stunned by the speedy healing process, absolutely no peeling skin, and return to soft, well-healed skin within a week. My hands look years younger. While I'm not trying to turn back the clock, I would like to age well, and give extra attention to my skin, undoing some damage from years of sun exposure. It's wonderful to see the return of healthier skin. I'm very grateful to Dr. Holder for her kindness and for her skill. She is a wonderful doctor. read more

I took my son to Doctor holder about 6 months ago because my son had terrible acne all over his face. She made my son, Ryan feel like he mattered. She listened to everything he had to say, and conducted several test. Doctor Holder is definitely one of the best Doctors because she also validated my concerns as a parent. My son had two visits to Doctor Holder's office and within 2 months my son's acne all went away. My son's confidence increased and he was mindful about what Doctor Holder said about eating properly and drinking the correct amount of water. Not happy. Saw her for Botox and chemical peels as well a medical. Dr Holder seems super nice but watch out! She frequently runs out of things especially Botox. When you keep your CONFIRMED appointment and she out of something she tries to sell you on a different treatment/product.. Additionally the drug reps and cosmeceutical reps dont seem to be supporting her any longer. Guess she's not paying her bills. Probably the reason her inventory is thin and there's a revolving door of brands. She sells expired cosemeceuticals and when you question her about the dates she says it's ok. Then wants to charge full price. I think she dilutes her products too. Had a peel that didnt peel at all and a botox treatment that work mildly at best. I have been going to Dr. Holder for about two months and have received three treatments so far - for chemical peels. Her office is warm and cozy, in a garden apartment in a brownstone. Her staff is lovely and assists her with the treatment. I have very difficult skin to treat and have gone to many dermatologists for years for various treatments. I have oily and very fair skin, large pores; you name it. I have been able to maintain my skin with over-the-counter treatments but this year, I decided I was going to invest in some cosmetic treatment to really help my skin; to change my skin. After searching on the internet, I found Dr. Holder. She is, by far, the best dermatologist I have ever been to. She is warm, sensitive, careful, kind and listens to your concerns. I have had three peels in three months and not only did I see a difference in the first peel, after the third, I am REALLY seeing my skin change and improve. I don't understand why others have had negative responses - I recommend Dr. Holder without a reservation. You will not be sorry. She (and her treatment plan) is wonderful. read more

Let me start by saying I am in my early twenties and have had problem acne skin since high school. It has been truly discouraging to deal with unhappiness in my skin and not enjoying the beauty behind my blemishes. I've tried previous doctors, over the counter products, even home remedies and nothing has been successful. Upon almost choosing to give up completely, I searched for a dermatologist that would be able to help me with not just my acne but my hyper-pigmentation left behind.
