Rudy's is located in the middle of a residential neighborhood. It's a homey place that looks almost…read morelike a fraternity house, with a big patio, Nirvana playing in the background (literally, All Apologies was playing from a speaker somewhere when I rolled up), and this chaotic energy that I can't place. I think some of that energy starts with the sign on the door that says that you need to be prepared to show that you're 21+ in order to enter. I entered, and no one asked me whether I was over 21. Alrighty then! I visited because I wanted a bottle of wine to take back to my hotel. I read that Rudy's has wine, and they do, but it's a small wall of wine with maybe a dozen different bottles. Two of the bottles are from Oliver Winery (too sweet for me, I already know), and maybe four other bottles also looked light and sweet. I ended up finding a decent-looking Pinot Noir that was a little more than I wanted to pay initially, but once I opened it, I could see where the extra couple of bucks went. It was a good bottle of red. But, if you're looking for a variety of wines, this is not the place to visit. And if you're looking for beers, the same applies. They do have some beers in a refrigerator, but they're sparse. Mostly, though, Rudy's is a cigar bar, and everything about it screams cigars once you step inside. I know very little about cigars beyond what my dad has imparted upon me; he has taken up smokin' stogies in the past couple of years. I think he would love this place, and if you're a cigar smoker, I think you might love it, too. It's just not my vibe, but I'm glad it exists for those who it vibes with.

My nomadic spirit takes me to some cool places. I found…read moremyself at Rudy's Cigar Shop in Fort Wayne, Indiana, by recommendation of my pal. Though it's called a shop, it seemed to me to be anything but. It's a cigar house, yep, a literal house with a porch, a front yard with seating and a view of a baseball field, a member lounge complete with a full kitchen, amazing back yard seating areas culminated with an incredible two-story deck. They carry a pretty great selection of cigars and accessories, local wines and chocolates, drinks, snacks, and Rudy's merch. I'd travel back to Fort Wayne just to hang out there. The owner is originally from Michigan. The staffer who graciously served as my guide shared with me that the shop folk take a cigar train trip twice a year. I'm definitely scheduling that on my calendar for 2025. #cigars #cigarshop #fortwayne #detroitcigarsmoker #cigartravel

Worker/clerk/owner has to have either something large up his rectum that he does NOT want in there…read moreOR the worst attitude of any living human being I have ever had the displeasure of speaking with. I greeted the gentleman kindly, apologized in advance for a possibly strange question that I'd be asking, then asked him if he had any nicotine-free vapes/smoking cessation devices. (I have been clean of all nicotine products for about 2 weeks and was having a rough morning but did not want to "relapse"). The gentleman asked me in response, "How the hell would I know anything about that? This place is only for people who smoke." He then gestured to a glass case he had been leaning over, "This is all I would have," and there was perhaps one or two (nicotine) vapes in there. I then said, "Thanks, you have a great rest of your day," and left the establishment. Several points to address here: 1. Who else would know about the items stocked within South Street Cigar & Spirits, if not the gentleman working the register? "How the hell would I know that?" just doesn't seem like a good phrase for a retail worker's vocabulary when the stock is in front of you & Google is free. 2. Does this gentleman perhaps just have an issue with women? I don't want to reduce it down to simplicities, but sometimes simple-minded folks pick simpler targets. It appears that in nearly every Yelp review, the men who come to this establishment are treated fine, but the women are spoken down to and generally have a very unpleasant experience. Interesting..... 3. Thank goodness KDPS was already called into the store so it could be made sure that the unhoused gentlemen (who was not bothering anyone) had to move, instead eating his lunch on the empty bench in front of the store. Super cool to have to officer just stand there while worker/clerk/owner dude was a complete ass to me as well. Truly a heinous experience and I hope that officer and the gentleman who was working in this shop have the days they deserve :)

Didn't say anything about the smoke at all, as I enjoy a good cigar every once in a while too! Got a response from the owner "well this is a place that men smoke cigars and are manly men so you can just skip on out of here." Have never been so disgusted by an old man before. I have a bigger bourbon collection in my house than his store had. Will never go back ever again. Do not reccommend.
