TLDR; cozy ambiance with lots of interior seating but my latte was far too milky a super cute cafe near oberlin college. upon entering, the lighting and seating had a cozy ambiance and most customers are students grabbing coffee before class or sitting at the cafe to study. i read that slow train and the local were the most popular cafes in town, and opted for slow train due to better lighting. ordered at the kiosk and my drink came out in less than 10 minutes. // iced lavender latte, 16 oz ($5.50) // i got the iced lavender latte with the default whole milk. in hindsight i should have gotten skim milk or asked for lighter milk because my drink was very milky. the lavender flavor was fragant but a bit subtle. however, the espresso flavor was not strong and it mainly tasted like milk. a little disappointed given the high reviews, but the atmosphere and people were nice. a little dim though if you're trying to read or study with physical books.

A great place for coffee. It's also for a vegan pastry. Slow Train Cafe may imply a laid back atmosphere. For the most part this is the how it is. The service is prompt thankfully. By far the most important thing here is coffee. Good thing it's really good. The prices aren't that bad despite being in a hip college town. It's about $2 for a medium drip coffee. The pastries are good too. It has several vegan kinds. The last time they had a vegan jumbo power muffin. The pastries usually are about $2 to $3 depending on what kind you get, and they also have a few sandwiches. It cares much about the environment. It won't provide plastic stirrers. You can get a metal one that you can keep and bring it back with you.

Only came in for a drink but had a positive experience. I'm very picky about my chai -- i would give theirs a 7/10. I liked the spice levels but it tasted a little burnt. My fiancé ordered french press and loved it. Staff was polite and everything seemed very clean. Lots of seating!

I am not a fan of coffee, but I am a sucker for good hot chocolate or chai tea. My friends and I stopped here on our lunch break today. I got a hot chocolate and a cinnamon poptart. The poptart was amazing! I really wanted another one, it was that good. I have also had their chocolate chip cookies before which are the best. They aren't allowing guests to dine in currently, but it was nice to get a sweet treat to take back to work.

Cute place within perfect walking distance from The Hotel at Oberlin! I got an iced dirty chai and an everything bagel with cream cheese. It was fairly priced and decently quick!

Inexpensive, delicious coffee products. A warm, relaxed atmosphere. Helpful, attentive service. These are some of the few qualities of Slow Train that make it such a great place to spend an hour, an afternoon, or an entire semester. Ample seating and free wireless access make for a great study environment, or just a place to meet friends and chat. The live entertainment on weekends is superb. In short, there is no better place to be in Oberlin if you are looking for coffee, entertainment, or new people.

I got a 12 oz latte with added house-made vanilla and lavender syrups, which was totally delicious, with just the right amount of flavor.

Blue Rooster Bakehouse - Oberlin, Ohio Driving through…read moreOberlin, I was looking for a good cup of coffee and decided to stop in at Blue Rooster Bakehouse. The menu is written on a chalkboard, and there's a display case showing off all their fresh pastries and treats. I was hoping for something savory, and the barista mentioned the only option was a cheese croissant. It wasn't shaped like a traditional croissant, but the dough was flaky and buttery, filled with jalapeño and cream cheese, and finished with a sprinkle of salt on top -- surprisingly delicious. I ordered a Doppio, which I later learned is a double shot of espresso. It was strong, smooth, and paired perfectly with my pastry. I also picked up a slice of gluten-free banana bread for my husband. They had about four gluten-free/vegan options available, and everything looked freshly baked. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the space itself was cozy, seating around 15 people. However, accessibility could be an issue -- the narrow layout and tight walkway would make it difficult for anyone using a wheelchair to navigate. My total came to around $12, which felt reasonable for a specialty coffee and baked goods treat. Overall, it's a charming little spot with quality coffee and friendly service -- a place I'd return to when I'm in the area and want to splurge a little.

Wow. The difficulty…read morein a place like this lies in the narrowing down and decision making on what to get. If I could, I would have gotten one of everything. We finally settled on oatmeal cookie (man it's so good), fig/goat cheese/pear pastry, berry pastry, americano, and a chai latte with oat milk. We had a blast eating outdoors at the picnic bench, nice breeze even on an August morning! If we're ever in town again, this will be our Go To spot for sure.

And the club's official name is The Dionysus Disco but everyone calls it the 'Sco, and when I first got here, I was rather confused. It has a nice bar, with many wooden stools, and gives you the best view of the stage (this club isn't very big, so even if you sit by the bar, you have a great view of the stage). I got here rather early (an hour before the show started), and was able to loiter by the bar, have a few beers, and chat with the locals. They have 3 beers on tap: PBR, Great Lakes Dortnunder, and Rogue Dead Guy Ale. Since I didn't know if I would be back in this neck of the woods again, I tried the GLD, and did not regret it. Beer the way I like it: on tap, light, flavourful! But what really impressed me was the $1 PBR. You really can't top that price! They also had a huge selection of bottled beers, and also big beers including Avery The Reverend. I had a sip and wow it had a great hopping aftertaste and a 10% ABV. Needless to say, by the end of the night. my friends were pretty drunk.
