I called for a termite inspection as a stump in my yard was getting eaten up. Lady that answered the phone provided price for termite inspection and also gave quotes on monthly or annual plans for ant and bug treatments. She set me up with an appt and said the tech could provide better feedback on what was needed during the visit. My tech Mike arrived before 8am, so early for my visit. He performed an inspection inside and outside the house. Wore blue booties while inside the house which caught me by surprise since my dogs and kids tear up the floor. Mike was very professional and provided feedback on my situation. He did not try to upsell me on anything that was not needed and was not pushy at all. Gave his honest opinion and was a pleasure to meet and talk with. I will definitely reach out to this company again for any future bug issues and highly recommend them based on the service I was provided today. read more

I needed assurance that I had no issues with termites and decided to call Slug-A-Bug based on the Yelp ratings. The technician showed up on the early side of the time range mentioned by the very nice customer service person at the office. That was impressive. The technician was professional, very knowledgeable, and thoroughly described what he would do to check my home for any issues. He asked questions on anything I may have noticed that would help him assess for any issues in addition to the thorough inspection. He took the time to put on protective "booties" to protect my carpeting. This company is solid, and I like the idea of providing business to a very competent and local company. I have a rental property about 10 yrs old now, and the tenant reported finding termites breaking through the drywall in the entrance foyer. So I looked up several pest control companies and checked them out here on Yelp. Unfortunately Slug-a-Bug's phone wasn't working the day I called (line problems apparently) so I called another company with somewhat lower ratings first. They came out and gave me an estimate for the rental house, and since my residence was built by the same builder I decided to get them to look at it too, since it's going on 6 yrs old and many termeticides (the in-ground poison used to kill the termite nests) degrade or disappear in a few years, esp. the cheaper ones. So the discounted price for treating both houses was $3K. I decided to try Slug-a-Bug again to get another estimate and this time their phone was working, so I scheduled inspections and the estimate came in at just $1800, quite a savings over the first company. Plus Slug-a-Bug uses Termidor, which is long-lasting (over 10 yrs) and pretty effective - the other company uses a newer product called Altriset that is more EPA-friendly but also lasts "over 5 years", which is about half as long. Both products work by being trekked back to the nest and then gradually killing the entire colony. You can google or bing "termeticide" and look up the information yourself, by the way. Anyway, we found everything said in the other reviews to be accurate - Slug-a-Bug was on-time for all appointments, courteous, explained the treatments thoroughly, performed exactly as they said they would, and had by far the best price. You couldn't ask for any better service IMHO. I highly recommend them. read more

We haven't used their quarterly pest services so we can't speak in regards to that, but we used Slug-A-Bug for termite inspections twice when selling a property and purchasing a property. They do a very thorough job in inspecting properties and really get into every nook and cranny. The technician was always on time or early and did a good job in explaining any issues that came up. We've used other pest control companies before that charge a little less for the WDI report, but we feel they didn't really do a good job and were either uncommunicative, glossing over issues, or did a sloppy job in applying pest control treatments. Their pricing is competitive with other pest control companies in the NOVA area and we felt their services provided better value than their competitors. Recommended! read more

We hired slug a bug last August to perform quarterly service for the inside and outside of our home. The technician was pleasant enough however I wouldn't say they went above and beyond. If we needed someone to come out aside from the quarterly service there usually was an objection. We had a big chain pest control previously and I can say that I received better service and no hassle call ins for service between quarterly visits. We ended up canceling service because they would not come back out to spray our patio that was having a big ant problem without paying another quarterly service fee. We'll be going else where this next year. The stuff they use doesn't seem to be as effective as what we are used to thus requiring us to request a visit in between the quarterly service. read more

Then Mike McCranner arrived at our property and gave me all the information I needed in layman's terms. He was professional and expeditious going about the Termite inspection and pest treatment inside and outside the house. Mr. McCranner gave me all the paperwork for my records and needless to say we took out a one-year contract for their services. We will use SLUG-A-BUG for the duration of owning our home, they are thorough and use ecological products. I've used Slug-a-bug's services for more than a decade and can't imagine using any other company. They do a great job of keeping insects and bugs out of our house - our property backs up to common property, fields, a creek, etc., so we have plenty of types of insects to counter. On the few occasions when we have had an infestation between the quarterly service visits (usually ants, and I hate ants), they come out immediately and resolve the problem. I highly recommend Slug-A-Bug. From a small town, I always look for family owned businesses, even if it means we pay a bit more. However, Slug-A-Bug is a bit less expensive for a year-long service contract than what a colleague with a similar home nearby pays to one of the big box exterminators. Slug-A-Bug was easy to reach, available for same day service as a new customer, professional, courteous & thorough. We did have a couple of ants appear after the first indoor treatment, but they were gone within a few days as promised and we haven't seen anything since! Slug-A-Bug just did our quarterly outdoor treatment yesterday & were just as professional, courteous & thorough as our initial indoor & outdoor visits (you obviously need to be home for the first 2 indoor visits a month apart, and the yearly indoor visits afterward, but for the quarterly outdoor visits, you do not have to be home). read more

Its kind of a bummer to give them a two star review because the dude(Mike) that came out to to help us at our old house with our critter problem seemed to know what he was doing and was nice. We used them for over a year and then they basically ditched us before the job was complete because they could no longer come on the days we needed them. This was irritating because when we signed up for their service we told them there were only two weekdays per week , Tuedays and Wednesdays, that we were home and could give them access to the interior of our house. We continued the service for some time. Then when I called the scheduler to set up my next appointment she told me they could no longer do Tuesday or Wednesday. Not only that but she was completely inflexible and rigid on this point. While I would not say she was nasty on the phone, she was anything but nice and was unempathetic and non apologetic that they would be unable to come out any more unless we changed the day they could come out. She did not care at all that they were losing our business and made this very clear not so much by her words but by her tone and attitude. It is always the same lady that answers the phone at this company and I have to say that she had never seemed overly friendly or helpful. She sounded more like someone that did not like their job and was inconvenienced. Ok, I get it, you are a small business and you got busy enough that you did not need to drive all the way out to our old house. But, you should still honor your commitments, finish the job you agreed to do, and then tell the customer you can't come out any more. We live much closer to Woodbridge now but I would not call them because of my experience. If you live close to Woodbridge this company will likely do fine work for you and you could give them a try. If you live further away you may wind up cut of like we were. read more
