I had a termite inspection with Better Termite. My overall comment is high price (priced double compared with others) for mediocre service, and there is NO warranty for their inspection. First, for their termite inspection. When I scheduled the inspection with Better Termite, I was told the termite inspection would take about 1 hour, so I was expecting a very thorough inspection. However, my actual inspection, including termite inspection, pest inspection and inspection report writing, only took 10-15 minutes. Nothing matches their 5-start rating in yelp. However, their termite inspection costs TWICE compared with termite inspection offered by other pest control company. In addition, they provide NO warranty for their inspection, unlike some other pest control companies that offer 1-year warranty with termite inspection (and the price is half of what Better Termite costs.) I inquired about warranty with the inspector, and was told "No". Second, when I scheduled the termite inspection, I specifically requested to have a rodent inspection, and very clear that I want the inspector to check the attic. I told the customer representative that we found rodent problem in the attic after we moved into a previous property, and ended up spending thousands of dollars to treat it. So I was very specific and clear that I need a rodent inspection in addition to a termite inspection, and I told the customer service that the inspector needs to have a ladder to access the attic. When the inspector was here, I did not see him carrying a ladder, so I inquired about rodent inspection in the attic. The inspector told me that he won't do a rodent inspection, but only a general pest inspection. I told him that I specifically requested a rodent inspection in the attic, because of our prior experience with rodent problem in the attic after real estate transaction, and we had attic access in the master bedroom closet. But the inspector told him he won't check the attic. I understand the attic is difficult to reach, but the inspector did not make any attempt, not even trying to open the attic access. Well, the sign the inspector did not carry a ladder clearly shows that he has no intention to ever check the attic. I was not happy with this service. If the customer representative told him they won't check the attic or note anything about difficulty of accessing attic, I could have asked for more details or would have checked with other pest control companies. However, I was told "Yes", but got "No". Except that he won't access the attic, I did not get any report or hear any word about the general pest inspection from the inspector. I was baited by their 5-star review, but my experience would be 2-star the most. read more

There were a bunch of places that advertised good response times, but honestly Better Termite won out because they were the only people who answered their phones. Granted I couldn't get an appointment until later that week, but turns out, people aren't as responsive as they say they are on Yelp. I tried 3 places. One place never responded to my email until the night before Better Termite was to come out and another place never picked up the phone. So by process of elimination they won. HOWEVER, not only were they prompt with their time, their assessment of the ant invasion we had and very easy to work with. I'm going to keep working with Better Termite since they serve most of Northern Virginia. Go with a company that is responsive and values your time as well as theirs. read more

If I could give these guys zero stars, I would. We were told that technician would be at our house between 11am and 2pm FRIDAY. That morning, the technician called and we agreed he would arrive at 11am. Then he called and left a VM saying he couldn't make it until MONDAY! When I called back, he claimed I told him I had to reschedule. Why would I reschedule? We were up until 3am cleaning out our kitchen for the service. He said he had it on "recording." I never called to reschedule and we even cancelled some appointments with family to be here. To have someone accuse the customer of LYING to them is the worst customer service imaginable. I would avoid these scammers at ALL costs. read more

Okay, it's been a month already and so far, nothing has gone wrong...so, here it goes: These guys came highly recommended from a friend. In checking other reviews on Yelp (all very positive), decided to give them a call. From the get go Better Termite & Pest Control was very professional. They are detailed-oriented and very good at taking the time to discuss issues and answer any questions that I had: before, during, and after the service. They sent their highly experienced rep (Marcel) to check out the house - which he did thoroughly (being the basement, garage, and outer part of the home). Marcel explained exactly what I was seeing, what was happening, and what to look for regarding termites. After two hours, I signed up for both the termite service and pest control service (they are different packages owing to their different nature). For the termite service, I had to move everything to the center of the garage so as they could drill holes every 6-8 inches around the walls to pump in poison - as well as drill holes in the doorstep outside. Being obsessive compulsive and particular about things looking nice, I was leery of the process. These guys came out and spent the better part of a day doing the termite service (including the entire perimeter of the house (except where we had asked them not to - a small herb patch). Let me tell you: they were like surgeons and stitched up everything flawlessly. Sure, you see where they had to drill, but the holes are small and were filled with expandable cement-like epoxy and smoothed out, Even the holes drilled on the entrance steps and on the asphalt in front of the garage were patched nicely. They did not have time to finish filling a few of the outside holes (due to weather) and made another appointment to come back - to finish the termite service and begin the pest service. They left everything clean and neat (I believe it was Mr. Juan who is their master termite guy). Anyway, they came back and did all the remaining work. Since it was on the outside, no one had to be home. I called Better Termite and asked if I could send in the remainder of the payment - which was perfectly fine with them. Both services (which include a yearly review by Marcel for the termites and 4 or 6 times for the pest control) cost me $1,950 - which I have since learned is a good and fair price. these people know what they're doing. Also, they gave me $150.00 worth of coupons to use - which was helpful! Hope this posting doesn't jinx me...so far, so good. we caught the issue in time and I feel better knowing that Better Termite & Pest Control is working for me. read more

I highly recommend this local business! My heart stopped when my son found termites in his front door jam! We called Better Termite and Pest Control immediately and they sent Juan who arrived within an hour of the call. Juan is obviously very experienced and knows his job inside and out! After a thorough inspection he explained what has happened and what to expect after treatment. Luckily the infestation had not spread beyond the door and Juan treated the whole house the next day. Hired Better Termite to get rid of mice in our unfinished basement. They came the following day, ON TIME as scheduled and my technician, Robert Dively, was so knowledgeable​ and professional. He explained everything in detail and explained what needed to be done. He even recommended what should be done on our foundation and dryer vent. He wasn't pushy on the payment plan and let me decide on whats the best. I don't have any other company to compare them with, but the previous owner of the house has had them since 1971 and the termite problem then never seemed to return. These guys are the best in the area and believe me I met with them all. I had several other big name termite services out to investigate a termite swarm; they did the "dog and pony show" and tried to convince me that they use more chemical or better chemicals. In the end the chemicals are all about the same and treatments vary. We went with the most aggressive plan to inject termite killer and install bait stations outside. The price was right and the work was done very professionally. Back to the chemicals for a minute ... the EPA tells them what and how much they can use so you are safe with a reputable company that actually drills and injects chemical but beware of the guys who say all you need is bait, termites continue to feed while they wait to bump into a bait station 3-4 months down the road. Moving in to a new house, a homeowner would like everything to be perfect. And usually a week in to it, they realize it's not. We had a colony of ants that were a little to close to our new home so I had called Better Terminate and Pest. They had someone out who was willing to look at and explain the different bugs we were seeing. Helpful, I went with the year contract which included spraying every two months. They were regular and always willing to call and reschedule (or proceed without me) for exterior spraying. Didn't have any sign of bugs while I held a contract with them, and they had a policy of allowing you to call them in of you were seeing bugs. read more

We used Better Termite for mosquito control last summer and plan to use them again this summer. The owner, George, answered all our questions and seems to be very involved in keeping his services at a high level. Our neighborhood is plagued by relentless mosquitos every summer, making us prisoners to the indoors. Last summer we saw a noticeable decline in mosquito activity after Better Termite came to spray. When those skeeters reared their ugly heads again during the peak months, we just called Better Termite and they came out to respray at no extra charge. For the first time last summer, we were able to enjoy the outdoors with minimal mosquito bites. Hope we can do the same this summer. read more

My family has used Better Termite for around 20 years. Therefore, when I recently purchased a new home, they were our first call for service. The bad experience started when the technician showed up to my house several hours prior to the scheduled time frame Scheduled between 11 and 2, showed up at 8 am). My dad is the one who scheduled the appointment for me and intended to be here to ask some questions and potentially set up a plan for my house. I called him as soon as the technician arrived so he could come over to my house (he lives 10 about 10 minutes away but was asleep when I called adding to his arrival time). I was home so this was not a huge problem but when I advised him of the spider crickets I was experiencing, he didn't acknowledge it at all and kept saying this was going to be $250 for a treatment. He must have thought I couldn't pay him because he repeated this 4 times before continuing. Finally after confirming multiple times that I understood the pricing and was informed when the appointment was made he said he would start by treating the outside. I said thank you and to let me know when he needed access to the interior of the house. 10 minutes later, he lets himself in my home and proceeds to the basement. I was startled to say the least but let it go. Both outside and inside were done in about 20 minutes (I own a townhouse so I didn't expect it to take that long). I let him know that my father was on the way to make payment and ask questions and would be here literally any second. He said he didn't have time for all that as he was very busy and they would invoice us. I was again a bit taken aback by the attitude in which he spoke to me throughout the entire visit. He abruptly left and went to his truck. My father pulled in about a minute later and raced to the man's truck. I stayed out of the conversation as I was angry to say the least. My father came in and said the tech was fine. After the interaction with the tech, I went on the Better Termite website and started a chat. I let them know about how rude the tech was being to me. They apologized and took my name and address but then abruptly ended the chat with no further communication in email of phone call form. I again decided to let it go. However, I then received a bill from them in the mail about a month later for the $250 that was paid to the tech by a check. We called the office and inquired and the rep answering the phone was extremely rude and continued to repeat that we never paid them. We were able to provide a check number and the date that they cashed it. She finally said that they would look into it and get back to us. Overall, every aspect of our interaction with them has been pretty awful. My parents who have had a contract with them for years have said they will not be renewing based on these interactions. You would think with all of the competition in the area that they would try to make sure that every interaction was at least not a terrible one. We had another company come by and do a quick inspection. He was incredibly nice, knowledgeable and was eager to answer any questions we had. I explained my experience with BTPC and he said this is a busy season for everyone but that interactions should never go this way. We will definitely be sticking to the new company since we are able to request that same tech each time. read more

I like supporting small local businesses than the big chains and this company is definitely worth doing that. The company is owned by descent people. They unfortunately can't control all their technicians though. I have caught two of them leaving claiming they sprayed my house and my security system says otherwise.when I called back they were very responsive about this. Unfortunately, I was quite pleased with my service until today. I was surprised to learn the technicians were coming to service my property without authorization or confirmation of the appointments. I have confirmed all of my appointments by phone before COVID-19 so that the interior may be inspected as well. As I inquired about my invoices for two appointments that I did not authorized, the customer service representative kept interrupting me. I am cancelling my service TODAY and will look for another service provider. I don't want to do business with this company. read more

The office manager's (Brian's) idea of customer service isn't a modern one. A simple request for a time window that actually worked for me and my family was apparently unobtainable. Since I prepaid the entire contract and they already had my money, maybe this is how Brian or Better Termite as a whole operates? Brian informed that because Better Termite is located in Alexandria they did not have sufficient flexibility to create service time windows for a Manassas property. Maybe they shouldn't serve Manassas properties then? But didn't they enter into a contract to do so? Maybe they have been around too long? No longer care about keeping customers? I have been using them for termite protection/insurance for over 5 years. Last week, I discovered something that looked like termites in my wood frame to my sliding glass door. Marcel came out and inspected it and showed me it was wood rot, and also told me what I could do to fix it. During that time, he told me about how Better Termite takes their time to look over everything to ensure the house is safe from termites, and that's why their inspections take so long while other pest control companies do a quick look. A neighbor highly recommended Better Termite and then I checked their reviews on Yelp which were all extremely positive. My entire experience with them was wonderful. When I discovered that I had termites, I wanted to get the problem addressed immediately. Marcel, their expert advisor, was able to come to my house within 4 days after I first called the company. He thoroughly explained their termite service and treatments but he did not push me to make a decision or put on a hard sell like so many other companies do. They were able to schedule the treatment within 5 days (the required time for Miss Utility to be notified and mark the gas lines on my property). Juan, their master technician, called me the day of my service to confirm his arrival time. He and his assistant were very efficient and left the work areas neat and clean. They spent 4 hours drilling and treating my front porch, garage, and storage room directly below my front porch. Due to severe rain the night before, they were not able to drill and treat in back of my house. Juan told me that the office would call me to schedule another appointment so they could finish the job. Sure enough, within 2 days, the office called me and the remaining treatment was scheduled. Juan and his assistant returned within 4 days and completed the drilling and treatment in my back yard. From start to finish, I was extremely pleased with the expert service provided by Better Termite and Pest Control. I would highly recommend this company and I will definitely hire them again if I have any pest problems. read more

I've had several pest control companies in the past. I recently started using this company. Their services are thorough, detailed, prompt and reasonable in price. I had issues with my door and Kenny came to give me an estimate on weatherproofing it. Along with my maintenance services, I probably paid half (or less) what a reputable home improvement person would have charged me for the weatherproofing. Kenny and the rest of the staff are kind, considerate and caring about my pest control needs! Very disappointed. We spotted a rat in our basement and called Better Termite and Pest Control the next morning. They scheduled an appointment for the afternoon. The work order was to "give estimate and treat same day". We assumed that meant they would lay out traps, poison, etc to take care of the rat. Unfortunately that's not what happened. Instead they tried to up-sell us a "rodent control service for $650 yearly, $200 initial, $90 per service". We didn't want to spend upwards of a thousand dollars to take care of a rat so we declined. They laid no traps or poison or anything at all. Later that day I went to the hardware store and spent $25 on traps and poison. read more
