Seems mostly Thai (noodles) and Japanese (ramen), but some Chinese as well, with blurring involved on some of the dishes. Smack Bun: Basically an Asian take on a pulled pork sandwich. Cha-shu pork in a soft bao bun with crunchy vegetables and okonomi sauce very similar to a tangy sweet barbecue sauce. Nice that you can order them individually instead of committing to a set of three or so. Crispy Brussels Sprouts: A small serving with small pieces, lots of batter per piece and fried garlic integrated, but very light and brittle, so not too heavy. Good flavor, aided by the ginger sauce. Just not much sprout here. Crazy Noodle: Very soft flat rice noodles with an assortment of vegetables led by carrot and broccoli, tossed with protein of choice (I went chicken) in a spicy basil sauce that had some light sweetness for balance. Finally made it here for a bowl of ramen - it did not disappoint! I got the spicy red tonkotsu (forgot to get a picture), along with some "Smack Buns" (chashu pork in a fluffy bun w/ okonomi sauce). Everything was great. The ramen really hit the spot, and I honestly wanted to order another round of smack buns but had to control myself. Our waitress was very nice and attentive while we were there, and although the place is fairly small, we had plenty of room (there were 3 of us). Stopped in here to try another place we haven't near our area. Food - We started with the smack buns which were ok, the pork was dry. I ordered a Thai tea with boba and it was good, a bit on the sugary side. Both me and my bf got the tonkotsu ramen, which was quite the taste. First the broth was extremely salty, which was disappointing because this tonkotsu had the correct richness and texture, but sooo salty. The fried onions as a topping is also interesting, but they become super soggy in just a few minutes which becomes texturally displeasing. The egg was not as marinated as I'd like it to be, I've had better at other places. The noodles were ok, not bouncy, just like average to us. Overall the ramen was a bit of a hot mess, we ate it all, but the saltiness really killed this dish. Service - fast, also nice as well they were busy flipping tables out for more people coming in. Ambiance - didn't get much of a feel for it since we had a window seat but it was very crowded. Ramen was 2.5/5, and we don't plan on going back due to the off-balance of saltiness in their tonkotsu. read more

I decided to eat at Smack Noodle as a last minute date night. Since it was a beautiful night, we opted to sit outside, which has a handful of sidewalk-side tables. It was a nice experience - a quiet dining experience while being able to people watch the going's-on of downtown. The staff was very welcoming and attentive (but not overly so). I was also pleasantly surprised to see that our food came out quickly after ordering. We ordered the smack buns and brussel sprouts to share. The buns were tasty and I would order them again. The brussel sprouts were deliciously salty and incredibly crispy. I ordered the crazy noodles with tofu. They had a strong kick in the best way and the tofu was perfectly textured. This was a large portion so I was able to take home leftovers for a second meal. My fiancé ordered the spicy miso ramen which he found to be tasty with a good level of spice. All in all, we are happy to have found and support a small business and will be back to try more of the menu in the future! read more

We got seating outside on the patio and I ordered a pork bao bun and miso ramen. The service was great, but I wasn't impressed with the food. The pork bao was soft, but nothing special. The ramen was lackluster in both the broth and noodles. On the positive side, plenty of corn and a great soft boiled egg. Overall, not the best ramen, but they do serve other dishes you could try out. read more

Oh friends...this place is special. The food was incredible and the family that runs it make you feel so welcome. They only have a few tables, and it was packed for weekend lunch. The food came out quickly and was served piping hot. Scallion pancakes were light and crispy. Crazy noodles was a bowl full of spicy goodness. They were really nice about scaling back on the spicy level for me so it was not atomic. Lots of veggies included and you can get it with tofu, beef, or chicken. Fried rice was delicious as well. My wife and I have been getting takeout from Smack Noodle for about two years. Food is consistently excellent, and service is always friendly. My wife's go to is the Crazy Noodles, and I usually get the Massaman Curry. The massaman curry is the best I've had from any Thai place in the Metrowest and definitely deserves a shout out. The flavors are bold and not watery, the potato is always tender and not undercooked, and the broccoli soft enough to soak up all the amazing flavor but not overcooked. The Tonkotsu Ramen and Miso Ramen are also excellent, with flavorful soup, though I personally don't like the bean sprouts in the Spicy Red Tonkotsu ramen, which seems to be more of a Thai spin on the dish, and their pork slices are sometimes a bit too thick and on the drier side, something which I see from a lot of other ramen places that don't use pork belly. Portion sizes are good and pricing seems very reasonable for the area. Sit down dining is somewhat limited but cozy. Overall this place is a hidden gem. read more

For a tiny place in an unassuming town, this restaurant packs big flavors! True to its name, the place offers up excellent noodle dishes. I love their crazy noodles. The dish is unapologetically spicy and has a lot of bold flavors. Once I had it with beef and my only disappointment is that the beef was on the dry side. Their ramen is wonderfully rich. And their curry is fantastic. The pork buns were packed with tender pork balanced with thinly sliced carrots and a robust sauce. The menu isn't huge, but they are consistently good which I prefer. Surprise find in Maynard after visiting the Discovery Museum. Smack shack, tonkotsu ramen and pad see ew with tofu were good. Pad thai was too sweet for my taste. Downtown Maynard is especially quaint and textbook New England. Independent shops line the main street along with many different types of cuisine. Upon leaving a local apple orchard, the cider doughnuts did not fully fill us so we were looking for something on the way home. SN was highly rated and we also saw it offered outdoor seating during the pandemic so we decided to give it a whirl. As of Sept 2020, there are a handful of tables both inside and out. There is waitress service but you can also order at a counter for easy take out. Our waitress was a doll and always at our beck and call. We ultimately ended up outside which had very large umbrellas to shield you from the sun. The pad thai was a good sized portion but not completely balanced in flavor, it was more sour than it needed to be. The fried brussel sprouts were a bit overdone but the sweet sauce they come with definitely balanced it out so it wasn't such a big deal. We LOVED the smack buns, which may be the best thing on the menu. Perfectly pillowed baos with succulent pulled pork and a good amount of veggies like carrot within. I would go back again just to pick up a half dozen of these to messily devour on the road. Finally, the thai iced tea was way too sweet and an afterthought to our meal as we ate everything else but left much of that behind. Prices were on point, I just wish some of our dishes were perfected a little better. Service is easily 5 stars but the food/drink in our first go around was only about 3 stars. Four stars overall is always solid and we will return if we catch ourselves in the area again, they are doing many things right for the small issues that we encountered. read more

The food here is phenomenal! We got shumai and 2 sushi rolls to start- the shumai was my favorite. I got the spicy miso ramen which I thought the broth was delicious, but honestly could've been a little spicier. I tried some of my friend's food as well and everything they got was equally as good. Knocking off a star unfortunately because our food did take a while to come out, and the table next to us there were like 3 girls who got their food while 1 girl had to wait a really long time. The restaurant itself is pretty small inside. I think takeout would be a great way to go, but if you're gonna get ramen it's definitely better eating it in the restaurant. read more

This is my Covid story. Several weeks ago (and vaccinated!), I won a Covid ticket (we know you can still get it, so keep your pants on Karens!) ticket to a couple of days of blahness. WELL SLAP YOUR MAMA! The broth is LEGIT. Slow simmered and super umami infested, your toes will curl. Slurp away! Loaded. With Pork Belly and all kinds of other deliciousness. Absolutely perfect! The Bao? STOP THE PRESSES! A M A Z I N G. The tart and sweet, extra crispy brussels? Yea, all day. This place is small, take-out and crazy, insane and stupid good. Really. I had not lost my smell or taste yet (that happened the next day), so I was able to savour every single sip of that warm and comforting broth and chow on all the delectable tidbits. They had me at bao. 24-7. Addictive. You may need intervention after trying theirs. ITS MAYNARD people! (Ok, so the Thai places in town are great! So the Asian food scene is hot and bothered!). It definitely hit the spot for me - we got the udon with the crispy chicken - the thick noodles were cooked nicely, the sauce a little heavy so lots of flavor. We also tried the tonkotsu ramen which the broth was surprisingly good, fresh and light. We go to Smack Noodle often. The food is so fast and so good! We've gotten several different dishes and they are all really tasty. One note: If the dish says that it's hot and spicy, it's hot and spicy! I've tried making it through a spicy noodle dish and it was too hot for me. These guys are right in downtown Maynard.
