Two of us stopped in for a late lunch/early dinner around 4:30. An odd hour, so it was no surprise that the place was empty. We had the appetizer assortment, shrimp pad thai and ma-la lamb. The appetizers were pretty routine: 2 each of shumai, peking dumplings, crab rangoon and one beef satay. The tempura shrimp mentioned on the menu was not served, but everything was tasty if not memorable. I expected more for our $15. My girl ordered the pad thai. It was okay, but needed more tamarind and was missing peanuts. Our server happily provided a bowl of peanuts. For authentic pad thai, I'll go to a Thai restaurant. A word about the people: our server was friendly and responsive, and we were greeted cheerfully. Our order took a reasonable amount of time to arrive. It wouldn't be fair to review the ambiance of an empty restaurant, so I'll just say the place was clean and the booth comfortable. I ordered the ma-la lamb specifically to get a plate of very spicy Sichuan style meat and it came dripping with hot oil and covered in chopped hot chilis. It was amazingly good. Not only was it at my limit for heat, I could taste all the flavor of the lamb as well as the other spices as my sinuses liquefied and my tear ducts leaked. I loved this dish. It was just as good reheated the next day. I think our experience here only scratched the surface of the menu. I'll definitely return for more spicy Sichuan food but will probably pass non-Sichuan appetizers and dishes. read more

This place has great service. The owners/staff are very friendly. It is a busy place given that there are not too many Asian restaurants in the area. Food is good, but I would not say exceptional. It's a good place to get Chinese and Japanese food. They cater to a wide range of people. They have lightly-seasoned dishes if you're not very adventurous with dishes that have a lot of spices. They also offer spicy food, but they could be spicier, in my opinion. They have more special dishes, but we didn't get to try it since there were only two of us and we didn't have that big of an appetite. read more

I've been coming here for over 10 years but no longer live in Acton so it had been a while. Not much has changed appearance-wise, but I think the food may have gotten better over the years! I particularly enjoyed a smoked duck dish they had here a few weeks back when we came here to celebrate a birthday, but all the food was good and they have nice non oily veggie options too. Five stars for this amazing fish filet in hot pot dish. All the spicy bright red szechuan flavor! Fish was fresh, juicy, generous portion. Eight of us gathered for an evening meal to celebrate a birthday. We started with a few appetizers and subsequently ordered entrees that we all shared. After being received in what I considered a "rough" fashion" and with concern that we were doing to be cold during our meal, (The greeter was wearing a down vest) the meal proceeded well. The place only had a single server who did an admirable, albeit a frenetic job of waiting on all her tables. The Chinese dishes were excellent, with the crab Rangoon as good as I have had anywhere. The only disappointment was that I have been spoiled by 40 years of sushi while living in CA. The sushi was passable. Ambience was ok and they did have a small sushi bar. Parking is plentiful. New to the area, and I feel very lucky to have Spicepepper Garden not too far from my house. VERY good, very authentic Chinese food - very much appreciate the Szechuan style on the menu, as well as including excellent Cantonese style that I grew up ordering. The Szechuan can be very spicy and salty but it is satiating and it's not your average greasy takeout you find at a lot of other places. Pre-Covid this was an average Chinese restaurant. Decent food. Post Covid the food has become terrible. I had takeout with an order of Kung-pow shrimp. The shrimp was so overcooked I almost couldn't chew it. The sauce was flavorless. I have dined in. The service was fine. It's just the food is so poor. Their crab Rangoon was actually good. But everything else I have eaten the last few times has been awful. The issue is there are so few Chinese restaurants in this area this place still remains. Should not go here again. Hot & sour soup came out quickly and was good but entree came out minutes later and by the time i finished misgendering the soup, the entree (cashew chicken) was cold. This breaks my heart, but some of the Chinese food has gone from fabulous to inedible in the past 6 months. Maybe a new chief came on board? Whatever is going on, the spicy hot and sour soup went totally bland. The Dry Fried Chicken has been our go-to dish, but not since they swapped the white meat for dark, it seems, which has made the breading totally soggy. Even the Kung Pao Chicken has gotten slimy. This is prob my favorite Chinese food in the nearby area, admittedly not having tried too many places since moving here. Their online ordering is horrible though. They don't give email confirmations or anything. The other day I ordered and my husband went to pick up and they had an order for $0 and that's all they said. "Yes we have the order but it's for nothing" so he left and we got McDonalds instead. Wish we got a call back when they saw the weird order so we could correct it. We're now going to be trying other places in town to see if we can find better. Definitely call to place an order for takeout if going here. read more

Got take out and overall it's ok, didn't have the spiciness or numbness I am use to. I have a feeling it changed owners or chefs since I don't remember it being this bad the last time. - Sichuan boiled beef: Pretty good, big chunk of beef, wasn't spicy enough but that was easily fixed with putting more Sichuan pepper flakes on top. - Dry fried chicken in hot dry pepper: Got the job done. Upside is there's a lot more chicken than I am use to seeing, usually it is filled with dried peppers, downside, didn't taste as authentic and wasn't nearly as spicy.. - Mapo tofu: This dish suffers the most from the lack of spiciness and numbing peppercorn, it was bland compared to what I am use to. There were also peas and square carrots which is out of place. - Homemade bacon with leek: I suspect this wasn't homemade bacon, tasted like the packaged Cantonese style bacon I could get at the store. read more

Very mixed feelings on this one. My wife and I had been regulars, visiting roughly 20 visits per year. Owner always welcomed us, stopped by table, etc. We never got nor wanted any special favors; the food was good enough to stand on its own. On a 2019 weekend lunch visit the white rice was dreadful: off-color gray, off-taste, stiff and old tasting. We pointed it out to the server, who said that they had leftover rice from the night before and purposely didn't make any rice that day. Not cool. She took it away and took it off the bill. I asked my wife if she wanted to order noodles or something, and she said no. This is the point where a good server or manager would insist on providing a noodle dish on the house, whether we were regulars or not. They didn't, but not doing it wasn't a problem. What was the problem was this: the owner stopped by the table and asked how everything was. We said we had an issue with the rice and figured he'd want to know what. Nope, a split second after my saying the word "rice" he laughed out loud, spun 180 degrees and walked away. Someday we may be back, but we're not exactly feeling it at the moment. Prior to "the incident," the food had been uneven, but more often than not, it was very good. The Sichuan dishes had a depth of flavor beyond just the heat, bringing salty and funky in the mix. A few favorites were the fish fillets and the braised chicken with peppers. On the other end of the stylistic spectrum, they served what was probably (and ironically) the best "old school" pork fried rice in the region, with lots of flavor, moisture, nuggets of pork, and other additions like eggs and peas. Sweet and sour chicken had a sauce that straddled old school and a semi-honest attempt to pass as semi-authentic Chinese, but the breading had a cardboard feel and flavor. Service had generally been below average, but still friendly. The only real issue was not having enough servers for the shift. I don't want to be one of those Yelpers who lets one bad experience undo all of the previous goodwill, even though the way the incident was handled wasn't cool. Awesome Dry-Fried Spicy Chicken! Fried Rice is great, and so are the string beans. This is one of the few Chinese restaurants standing in the Acton/Concord area - and they have a lot of Chinese customers which tells me its quite authentic. On take-out they kinda skimp on the the duck sauce so watch out for that. Kung Pao chicken could be spicier, but they make up for that with the other spicey chicken options. My husband and I had takeout this weekend. We were looking for a new chinese food place as our long standing place closed. We ordered many appetizers and pork fried rice. The lady on the phone was very pleasant. The food was ready to be picked up when they said, the rice was good. The pork in the rice wasn't filled with fat like other places are. The appetizers (chix fingers, pork fried dumpling, boneless pork, chix wings, crab rangoon) were good with not a lot of grease at the bottom of the boxes. We wished they packed one more bag of the sauces as we ran out quickly with the amount of appetizers we purchased. I wish they had online ordering. We will come back for take out. read more

I was extremely surprised and impressed with the take out that we ordered. Years ago I had gotten take out and had not been at all impressed. Now I realize that the reason for that was that we had chosen really Americanized dishes. I HIGHLY recommend trying new things that you may have never seen on offer at other restaurants, you will NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!! I personally LOVED the Hot Green Peppers with Beef Slivers and the Salt and Pepper Pork was fantastic. The meat in each was tender and succulent and very well flavored.
