Not a very large selection (large enough, either six or eight main ramen dishes to choose from, and then appetizers and a number of other dishes over rice) - which is probably a good thing. And all the selections basically full meals, and the dishes holding more than you think. I'd like to see a selection of simpler and less expensive noodle-only bowls, maybe with a few veggies. And Udon noodles. Absolutely worth the trip. Not cheap - but nothing these days is. We did not attempt a custom order; on the menu it says no substitutions. But there is a list of add-ons. We had a lovely time here when we came for dinner. We shared the miso ramen with chicken chashu. Since we wanted the ramen spicy, we ordered the chili paste and mixed it in. It is kind of crafty how the restaurant makes you order this as a side, since most places will give it to you for free. But the paste was very tasty, and maybe it is a special type of chili paste straight from Japan. This will remain a mystery. Anyway, we also ordered the chicken karaage which had a crunchy and salty batter and moist chicken inside. The sweet potato ube tempura was our favorite though. It was sweet, salty and crunchy and somehow not oily at all. The service was great. The decor was lively and kept you entertained. It was too gimmicky for me but everyone enjoyed themselves. The soda is a must order. There's a special way to open the bottle. The stopper that pops in to place once you figure out how to open the bottle helps with the flow of liquid as you drink. The soda bottle alone entertained us for several minutes :) There are plenty of cool flavors to pick from. We hope to visit again soon! read more

We got the Black garlic and shoyu ramen. Let me just start off by saying the food was 5/5 delicious, especially for authentic ramen in this area where the only other gourmet ramen you're getting is near Boston. However, we went on a Friday night and it was very overwhelming. There's plenty of parking outside with a large parking lot. The inside is relatively small with tables very close together, it could probably use a table or two being removed for more comfort. There was a wait but there is no waiting/seating area so we waited outside, however I could definitely see this being an issue when people are looking for a nice warm bowl of ramen in the winter and the only place to wait is outside or in their cars. The reason I'm rating a 3/5 is because of service, not at the fault of the waitress. When we got there, there was one cook and one waitress. The waitress was also performing the role of busser and hostess. She was so clearly overwhelmed and overworked, trying to clear tables, serve tables, help people pay, seat people, help those waiting outside, etc. This led to a tense environment that you could feel among other customers. This also led to LOTS of orders going to the wrong tables, items being forgotten about, and many people waiting outside left while we were eating. I want to preface again by saying this is not the waitress' fault by any means. She was doing the absolute most she could all while working by herself performing multiple unfilled roles. This is an issue that management needs to attend to, to relive her of working every role other than cook and being extremely visibly stressed. I may go back in a few months when it's chilly outside to treat myself to a nice local bowl of ramen, but I hope management has helped their employees by then. read more

it's not that bad it's like ramen but..........IDK how to explain it...it's kinda uhhhh id.......

We were four adults and a toddler, so it took a minute for hostess to arrange seating. It's a tiny place and frankly we thought it was a larger restaurant so we're like, hmmmmm this is interesting... The hostess/waitress kindly brought fortune cookies for our toddler to eat while we waited for food. Started with fried dumplings, which had the wonderful combination of crispy/chewy outside and sweet/tangy filling. The chicken karaage was made with dark meat chicken, such a difference from dry chicken fingers. It was perfect, with or without the sauce. And the chicken meatballs on skewers were so good we practically fought over them. For mains we shared the eel, pork cutlets and pork chashu. All were delicious and flavorful tho one of us wasn't a fan of the sauce on the chashu. Wanted to try the ramen but it's hard to eat without making a mess and we were not dressed for that, plus it's hard to share. Service was fabulous, it's really a hidden little gem. What a gem in the neighborhood. Its a cute spot to get warm bowl of japanese style ramen and small appetizer dish. We tried japanese fried chicken, crab croquet, two ramen dishes and they were all very good! The soup was full of flavor and the porkbelly was cooked superb w flavor and tender. Yokai - A Delicious New Spot in Westford! My friend and I decided to check out Yokai for the first time, and I'm so glad we did! The restaurant is cozy, and the menu is small but thoughtfully curated with a good variety of options. We decided to share a few different dishes, which was perfect for getting a taste of what Yokai has to offer. The braised pork belly was a standout--served on a bed of white rice, the rich, flavorful sauce from the pork really elevated the whole dish. The ramen was excellent, too. I was initially hesitant about the bamboo shoots, expecting the usual canned variety, but these were fresh and tasty. My only suggestion would be to ask for the seaweed slice on the side next time, since it was a little soggy by the time I got to it. We also tried the green beans, which were fresh and crisp, but honestly, nothing too special--especially for the price. I just wanted a veggie option, but I'd probably skip them next time. Overall, Yokai offers some really tasty dishes and a pleasant atmosphere. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to try the truffle ramen and the purple sweet potato fries! Highly recommend for anyone looking for something new and delicious in Westford! Oh and the server was lovely. read more

We went back to Yokai for the first time since their soft open. They really seem to have pulled things together. Yes, it's a very small place. Yes, we sat at the "bar" rather than a table as we had a party of four. But, service was much improved and food came out in a reasonable amount of time. I had the Yokai red ramen with just enough spice to remind me I'm alive! My family all chose the Shoyu Ramen. Food was excellent and the kids had only one complaint (too hot...cowards). Price is a little high (isn't everything nowadays?) but quality is excellent. Way to go Yokai Ramen! read more

I had long hoped for a ramen restaurant to open around Westford, so I was excited to try Yokai Ramen during their soft opening phase. We ordered the shoyu ramen, shrimp tempura, and gyoza, and everything was excellent. The broth of the shoyu ramen was delicious and all the toppings were cooked perfectly and equally as flavorful. Although the restaurant was busy, we got our food quickly and the service was friendly and personable, and I loved the atmosphere. If I had any minor criticism, for the price I'd expect a slightly larger serving for the ramen. It's a solid portion size and by no means small, but at a similar price I'm used to leaving ramen restaurants so full that I'm unable to take another bite. After one visit this is easily one of my favorite restaurants in the area now. A day after eating there I'm still thinking about how good the ramen tasted, and I can't wait to go back! read more

I was looking forward to trying this, but, my wife has a gluten sensitivity and there is NO gluten free option. No rice noodles or ANY option at all. We recommended to at least carry a rice noodle option, but, was informed she needed to speak with the chef - she said rice noodles are not ramen. So, we walked out to go across the street where they have a dedicated gluten free menu and options. It was too bad and my wife felt terrible that we had to leave. read more
