We came to Oishii Too while visiting our friends in Sudsbury, who are regulars are the restaurant. Our friend was recognized immediately, and we were greeted so warmly and seated immediately at one of their great back tables with a view of the water. Since it was a special occasion, we all ordered the chef's special, which was phenomenal. The wagyu, uni, and otoro were SO delicious - everything was really top-tier. The chef's special is a bit more pricey, but so worth it. We also enjoyed their sake. We came in on a weeknight, and parking was readily available. Service is so friendly, warm, and attentive. You can tell that people who come in dine there regularly. It was so nice to get a booth with a view; it made the reunion dinner that much more special. I didn't want the dinner to end! I was extremely disappointed in their hot appetizer, nasu dengaku. I've lived in Japan for many years, and was looking forward to eggplant with grilled miso topping. Instead, they served grilled eggplant topped with what looked and tasted like salad dressing, with no umami grilled miso flavor at all. If they called it a "grilled eggplant salad" it would have been fine, but it was not dengaku. Waitress did not acknowledge my complaint. Maki rolls were so-so, seaweed salad was good. read more

First off, for such an expensive place, bottled sodas brought to the table with the waiter GRIPPING the serving cups around where you put your mouth to drink with his hands, then saying you don't have straws, peeved us all out a little for being so unsanitary. The booth seats are FILTHY. No music, very awkward ambiance. We ordered a LOT of sushi- waiter did not explain any of it to us and did not know when asked. For an okasame restaurant, it didn't feel like one. Putting that aside and talking about the food- it was very, very mediocre. I have been eating sushi for two decades and for the price, it was extremely mid. I've been to Oishii many times in Sudbury, but tonight was incredibly disappointing. Several things stood out immediately. 1) The manager was seated next to the door playing a video game on his phone. Later during my meal, I had to politely ask him to lower the volume. 2) The restaurant was very dirty, with part of a roll and several straws on the floor. 3) The strong smell of detergent was in the air. It would have been smart to leave at this point, but I came for the food. Several spicy tuna rolls were ordered and there was a noticeable difference in the quality I've had from Oishii in the past. The rolls were not wrapped tight, The spicy sauce was "off", and the rolls were soggy. After a few bites, I asked the waitress for the check. The manager came out to address the issue and they remade more rolls. Sadly, they were identical in all aspects and the manager returned to play his video game behind a wall. Paid the tab and went. I've eaten great sushi in all parts of the world. I'm only posting in hopes Oishii can return to its former glory. read more

The food was a good as ever. I haven't been here in a few years and all the low scores had me worried, but I was very happy with my experience. The restaurant wasn't packed and I was happy that there was decent spacing between the tables to reduce COVID risk. I think it's important to acknowledge that covid has made it difficult for restaurants to maintain the same level of experience and that showed up by not having tuna belly and limited options for uni. However the sushi rolls were just as compelling as they've always been. For me, the Crispy Sake Maki with mango sauce is the reason I come here and it didn't disappoint. Slightly hard to find as the restaurant is hidden from the main street, so make sure you Google Map it before you go. In shock.. smh.. This is the worst food we've ever ordered from a sushi bar. I ordered sushi that looked like the attached picture. Teeny tiny Avocado Maki ..you could barely see the avocado as it was just under the size of 1/2 a green pea. And we were so excited to find Ohitashi on the menu but the serving was not quite a quarter of a cup and sadly tasted terrible, inedible. Everything was bland or inedible. Though the whole restaurant was empty, with only 2 other tables occupied, she sat all of us next to each other with barley any room on either side. When I asked if we could slide down one table she declined saying reservations would come later. To the reviewer who mentioned filthy booths. Oishii Sushi does not even have booths, so you may have been thinking of another restaurant. We have been going for years and it has been nothing but clean and spotless. Also, many customers appreciate the lack of music. I, for one, enjoy the subdued but energetic atmosphere in which I can carry on a conversation. The food almost always is wonderful, the baby hamachi sublime. Came here on a Wednesday night for dinner- the restaurant was nearly empty but again, it was a week night. We ordered the salmon avo maki, salmon scallion maki, yellowtail scallion maki, rainbow maki, salmon skin maki, tuna chips, spider maki, and a shiitake mushroom tempura maki. My favorites: Tuna chips (interesting combination of thin waffle chips with tuna on top), shiitake mushroom tempura maki (honestly surprised how much I ended up liking it), rainbow maki, and spider maki. I didn't quite like the salmon skin maki. It tasted burnt to me (but that could have just been me and my taste buds, and also it's salmon skin). Great flavor profiles, I've eaten here at least 400 times (not exaggerating) and I can count on one hand the number of dishes that didn't shine. After a long drive to the area, and very, very hungry, my friend and I sat down at the Sushi bar and get ready for what hopefully would be a good - if not great - meal. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. We ordered a salad and a seaweed salad - they were as expected, which is to say they were exactly what every other average Sushi joint delivers. The steamed shu mai was, generously, bland and mushy. Oshinko was the standard prefab mix that any strip mall Sushi joint offers. Now, on to the sushi/sashimi. We ordered the Omakase (one Sushi, one Sashimi). The presentation was not too bad, from a few feet away. However, the fish was, overall, bland, and inexcusably, a great number of the pieces were FROZEN. Crystallized and crunchy, still frozen and just terrible. Additionally, the sashimi pieces were absurdly oversized. I get that some people might think that more is better - and the restaurant might have decided that the way to a customers heart is by stuffing their mouths with gigantic slabs of raw fish, but this was simply repulsive. Some of the cuts were pushing 3/4 of an inch THICK. If I wanted a whole fish in every bite, I'd have a swordfish steak, thank you. Overall, this was a pretty big disappointment. If I could give 1.5 stars I would, as I reserve one star for those places that are just vile. This was, above vile. But certainly off-putting. read more

We had not gotten take-out for a while and when I went to pick it up on a Sunday night I was surprised to see it was not crowded at all. When we opened our bag, we saw packages of soy sauce instead of the usual plastic container. The seaweed salad, which was a favorite, was overly strong. Then, the ginger was strange tasting. Have been coming here for lunch on Fridays the past few weeks. Great place with incredibly fresh fish. They always have fresh toro (usually multiple varieties) and uni and all my favorites. I have been coming to his sushi restaurant for 10+ years now. The quality of the food has gone down hill since the good old days (before the expansion). I ordered sushi take-out of my regular sushi rolls which are: spicy scallop maki, hamachi torched maki, shrimp tempura maki, and Paula's maki. First of all, the size of the maki is super small comparing to other makis I had at other Japanese sushi restaurants. They charged over $10+ per maki and can you at least pack more rice to make them worth $10+ dollars?? The biggest problem was the rice, it wasn't even cooked through!! It was very hard to chew and I am very disappointed (Another Yelper, Rick K also mentioned his similar experience). I spoke with the owner on the phone and his reaction was, "okay, thanks for telling me." I am not sure if I would go back after tonight! read more

This used to be the best sushi and friendliest service (the couple who own it Kong and Sue are great). Last time we had lunch there it was disappointing, considering how superb it has been in the past. Their website is down as of this writing and when I called, got the manager who only said the website is down. No apology or regret as to the inconvenience to customers and not helpful when I asked how I could call in a take out order without a menu. Had a few small Nat flies but we swished them away, everything else was very clean. We ordered the sushi sashimi combo which included something called tekka make... These were very very very small, I would skip the combo next time and go ala cart The Sashimi was SUPER good and the portions were large, the sushi on top of rice was okay. We also got two rainbow rolls, again SUPER good! I was excited to visit this Sushi Bar, but since the prices were very high, we had to wait till groupon came out with a half off Dinner deal. My wife and I went for lunch with a $75 coupon figuring it was a Safe bet the Coupon would cover us for Lunch prices. Before we ordered, I asked the Host and the Waitress maybe 5 times what I could Order with the Coupon as I pointed to what we were interested in, 5 times they said yes to what we picked out, leaving us to think what we ordered was covered. When the Check arrived, the Bill was almost $75 before Tip after the $75 Groupon Voucher. So needless to say, they were charging 2 people $150 for LUNCH ? That was insane. I used to love this place, have some good sushi options, it is close to home, but the last time I went I was super disappointed. We ordered udon noodles and it was super sweet, is like eating dessert noodles, the sushi and sashimi combo was way over priced, $68 for 21 pieces, miso soup was super salty! Food is no longer impressive. Staff is cold, not friendly at all. Very unfriendly to kids, my son who is 4 wanted to sit on the booth seat and we have four people total, the waiter told us they don't combine tables( booth seats have small tables) unless there are more people, at the time the restaurant was nearly empty, 10 mins later he seated a family of three there. After many years of 'good-sushi-hunting' in the Boston area, this remains one of my favorites. A few years ago, I was inducted to proper quality sushi here, it is also where I first fell in love with the deliciously tender and juicy Hamachi Kama. What I appreciate the most here is the creativity of the food. Their maki are exemplarily unique and goes beyond your average list; every bite of sushi includes variety of flavors and textures which combine into a bite-size culinary experience. The "Hamachi Torched Maki" combines the tender texture of the fish, with the popping black tobiko, coated in the light sauce of miso. "The Maki" with the esteemed toro accompanied by the contrasting flavors of daikon and jalapeño. "The Kappa Sashimi" is made for sushi lovers who doesn't want too much rice (to fit more of the fishes!), the refreshing ponzu sauce with the fresh cucumbers wrapped around variety of sashimi fish. I remember the 'Spicy O-toro omakase' had such an intensity of flavors wrapped around the heavenly texture of toro, though the pieces are a bit too thick and seemed slightly frozen. And that deliciously fresh Japanese uni, they are not stingy about the portion at all, every bite was a pleasure in itself. Although I rarely veer away from seafood-related dishes here, they serve quite a variety in their menu, including Sukiyaki where is hard to find elsewhere in the area. I've never had problems finding seats here, even on Fridays at dinner time. Plenty of parking in the back and for a Japanese restaurant, I thought it is fairly spacious, tables are close together but there are quite a few of them beyond the sushi bar seatings. The staff was always friendly and helpful. For the quality, the price is fairly standard. Compared to its counterparts: much more relaxed and less expensive than Oishii Boston and more spacious than Oishii Chestnut Hill. read more

We ordered the Chef's choice of sushi and sashimi, and I guess the Chef chose to be lazy. I've eaten in a lot of sushi restaurants all across this great land of ours, and whether it was great, mediocre, or poor, all of the sushi chefs have thanked me, bowed, or acknowledged me in some way. Lobster - never had it cooked to the point of rubbery texture, but they nailed that here. Fish was mediocre, at best. Another first - there was a substantial bone in the fluke sashimi! My friend had to go to the restroom to spit it out for fear of choking. Sweet miso glazed black cod was unevenly marinated and the actual fish was not particularly tasty. It was really, really poor quality food. Unfortunately, the "27" Zagat rating (gag, cough, near passing out) speaks to the lack of experienced diners in the area. I think they've improved (I went back this weekend) and I loved it. Fresh fish (still a bit overpriced) but a lot lighter and refreshing compared to Fugakyu Cafe (which I also adore!) Oh, Oishii, how much do I love thee- let me count the ways. Oh wait. I'm too busy counting how many checks I'm going to bounce after I pay for your yummy yummy yumminess. This leaves me pondering the question of the hour: How is it conceivably possible that we are located smack on the cusp of a whole OCEAN (a major one at that- I think you've heard of it- it's called the ATLANTIC) and still have to auction our organs off on the black market to afford decent sushi? Urban legend has it that the chef at Oishii flies his fish in from Japan. Considering the cost of your ultimate bill, you'll wonder if he's actually flying it in from Mars. (With the cost of gas.... hmm....*maybe* it makes sense). Cost aside, if you've got a fat wad of cash burning a hole in your pocket or a corporate expense account, there isn't really better sushi available around these parts. Meltingly delicious lobster rolls will make you want to marry the sushi chef. Sample a number of the cold sakes on the wine list (they tell you how to pair them with food!) and you'll be ready to pledge your undying love. They even had an unfiltered sake available by the glass! While the dessert menu is miniscule (what Japanese restaurant ever offers anything but green tea ice cream, right?), there are some inventive high points. Try the black sesame ice cream- it sounds strange, but tastes so good. Apparently this place got a nice new remodel recently so the wait has been dramatically reduced. We went on a Saturday at 6:15 and the only thing that any of us had to wait for was the bathroom ('cause there's only one- for both men and women). On second thought, maybe don't sample ALL that sake. Luckily, the waitstaff have your bladder's best interests in mind. We had to fight them to keep a bar menu at the table- they kept taking ours away despite the fact that we kept asking them to leave it. So, while my belly left fat and happy, full of yummy sushi, my wallet left skinny and dejected, devoid of contents and feeling overwhelmed. Only 4 stars for Oishii Too because I'd need a sugar daddy to make this place a regular haunt. read more
