Good food and great atmosphere for an outdoor eating venue. I got the burger and it was juicy and delicious. French fries are curly fries. They were seasoned well, just the right crispiness and plentiful. Drinks come in a plastic cup which my husband said was an added bonus. My husband and son shared the fish and shrimp plate and they both had plenty. He said th seafood tasted fresh. We got there early..6ish...and were seated right away. We were offered a regular table but since the hot sun was shining we opted for a less comfortable high top (because there was 4 of us). Service was good, even despite that our waitress appeared to be serving the entire bar area. Didn't visit too many places to eat (4 to be exact) while we were here, but I see how this place was rated highly. Would definitely come again. read more

This is the place that makes you finalize your decision to quit your job and move to the OBX. This small restaurant that screams "locally owned" offers only outdoor seating and every seat has a view of the water. So close that the cool breeze will blow your almost empty drinks away if you're not careful enough. Small but tasty beer & wine selection. My #1 gal loved the Cab Sav and the Bell's Oberon Wheat couldn't have been more fitting for the view. The bartender was on point no matter how busy it got. The food was amazing. My Rampage chicken was so simple but one of the best chicken sandwiches in recent memory. And my ladies' salad was ridiculously good. Our intent was to stop in for a quick bite & drink. Just what you would expect from a little seafood place on the water- hustle bustle busy, great views of the marina from the outdoor tables-- food was fantastic! The only thing I could say was the tables outside were EXTREMELY close together so much so that it was a chore to get up for the restroom or move around at all without leaning over someone else's dinner and excusing yourself for bumping chairs and squeezing through two chairs --- forget about passing a server in the isle delivering food . Food is super fresh but we had our two big dog with us and they were just so nice. Brought out a bowl and all. I had the fried flounder and it was super fresh. How healthy I'm not sure but I ordered it. You can watch the boasts come in and clean and sell their fish. The beers and ice tea was great. I would come back again. I would have loved it if they could have put the umbrellas up. Maybe a sail umbrella of sorts might be something to look into. It was breeze and with the sun it got hot very quickly. We have always loved this bar! However we showed up at 8:30pm to grab a drink and the bartender said "we are closed", yet the hostess said "you all have time to grab a drink". The bartender could have cared less we were there and was more annoyed than pleased to see customers. We got takeout from Smacnally's for lunch on a day trip to Ocracoke. The place is small but has a pretty big parking lot and is in a great location in downtown Ocracoke village. I got the jay bird grilled chicken sandwich with fries, which was a nice sized cut of chicken and cooked perfectly. My husband got the Sorella chicken wrap and loved it. Great spot for a casual meal. I overheard the waitress asking another patron how he wanted his fish cooked (he just purchased it from the fisherman on the dock). That was kind of cool. Great service, great food. Thank you! Arrived after ferry crossing and driving from northern Outer Banks. Waitress brought us lots of cold water to keep us cool in the crazy heat. Amazing atmosphere right on the fishing docks. Fish of the day selection is awesome considering it comes straight off the boats. Hush Puppies are the best on the island, hands down. Spanish Mackeral and the blackened Sheepshead are spectacular. The locals frequent the bar and the fishing charters for the island are located right near the restaurant. We took our dog to Ocracoke for the first time today (we typically leave her behind on Hatteras Island). We were happy to find that this restaurant was reviewed as dog friendly on Yelp. It was a beautiful day, so we stopped by. The hush puppies were yummy and so good I didn't even need to use the melted butter that was served with it. Everyone was sweet to our dog and she was happy to be by our side. The entire place was busy but our food was served quickly and was delicious. I got the blackened chicken pita and it was so good. More vegetarian options would be nice, as I was with my vegetarian fiancé, but he was happy to have anything vegetarian to eat, so their vegetarian sandwich was fine. We will be back. read more

Our first time in the Outer Banks! We chose Smacnally's because of the waterfront dining. Food was delicious. Water and pelicans were beautiful! Our only complaint was that both of the people who served our table (initially and during the meal) were quite involved with conversations with apparent friends at other tables, which resulted in our waiting quite a while for the initial greeting, refills, and our check. When I visit Ocracoke again, this will be first on my list of places to return to. The atmosphere is perfect because Smacnally's is an outdoor restaurant, and the view overlooks the docks, charter fishing boats, and the water. Any table you sit at gives you a perfect place to relax and enjoy what's around. It's especially nice at sunset, but you can't go wrong at any time. The food is deliciously fresh, and while they offer many selections of fresh caught seafood, which is served either on a sandwich, as a platter, or on top of a salad bowl. I would personally recommend their mango shrimp wrap -- it's stuffed with their house mango, pineapple, jalapeño salsa, alongside big fried shrimp. For non seafood lovers, they have a tasty selection of burger and chicken options. Additionally, they make sure to keep it vegetarian friendly with salads and a veggie wrap on the menu. While they are "known for their burgers" the patties are just "cook frozen" type burgers... the kids still enjoyed them but the burgers were nothing special. We came to Ocracoke on the recommendation of a local in Avon, and we were about to hit another spot for some much needed food and beverages (after waiting an hour for the ferry and the hour ride on the ferry), when I saw the yelp review for another place we were about to walk into (three stars), and this one (four stars). We came here and could not be happier-my mahi mahi sandwich was awesome. Lia, who had the tuna wrap, said she would eat every meal here for the rest of the trip if she could. Our waiter seemed to spend a lot of time in the back and appeared lost most of the time. We live on the outer banks and visit ocracoke often and today we went and the food was good like always but the service was not friendly at all and we thanked her every time she came to the table and tried to get her to smile and she never did which made the food not as enjoyable. Got the beer battered blue fish special of the day and the breading was uncooked, fish slimy and the burgers were not cooked correctly. The boat bar was unique but the food needed some attention especially when you only offer one page menus with a few seafood items. Rule of thumb, if you only offer a few items on the menu it should be the best items in the house but it's not the case at this establishment. A little disappointed. read more

Good food, and experience was wonderful at lunchtime until I had a slip and fall on 6/4/15 off their deck and down the stairs. The manager took good care of me and offered me a free cocktail to ease the pain but they really need to make their deck safer!
