The beer was excellent... In terms of the food, it is important to drink the beer first, so that the alcohol in it can protect your stomach from the food. We had tough-puppies (deep deep deep fried hush puppies), and then the fried flounder and softshell crab sandwiches on special... And boy, were they special....Waterfront dining, lovely atmosphere, but just enjoy a drink and move on & dine elsewhere. read more

Friendly service, great location, and super fresh food. Our group of eight was pleasantly surprised with the food here. The standouts were the grilled fresh tuna steak on salad, grilled mahi sandwich, and fresh shrimp salad on pita. Amazing local catch specials each day. Whatever is seasonal , that is what you will get on that day, simple easy and spot on good food. A couple tap beers and a constant array of fresh fruit mimosas. The entire seating is outdoors, so whatever the weather is that is what you get as well. Hard to beat sitting on a dock with a cold beer and fresh catch food. Will definitely travel back to Ocracoke on purpose to revisit. read more

We were looking for an easy place that would appeal to our group of 4 adults and 4 teenagers/ preteens. We picked Smacnallys because of simple menu, offers of fresh seafood and good view of the harbor. Seated fairly quickly with group of 8. Good service. Friendly. Kids got burgers and reported that they were so so. Chicken sandwich was dry, chewy and uninspired - but it was a chicken sandwich after all. Fried shrimp were ok. Oysters were not good. The only meal that got a good report was the fresh catch. The accompanying sauce was rather tasty too. Overall "meh" for grossly overpriced food. read more

You just can't beat the atmosphere here! My 3 year old was so excited to each lunch with a pelican just a few feet away supervising the fishing boats coming in for the day with their catch. The staff was so friendly and efficient, and it was the best fish sandwich I've ever had. read more

Great little place to sit outside, listen to music, stare at the Atlantic Ocean and hear some great live music. We had rented a boat to tour Ocracoke Island and when we came back we saw a huge crowd all having a good time and listening to music. The people were friendly, the food was decent, and the atmosphere was perfect. I wouldn't recommend this place for anyone wanting a 5 star meal but I must say that I would definitely go back! read more

Our food server was very knowledgeable with the menu. We went with her recommendations and the recommendations were perfect. One of our favorite places- no place better to enjoy a laid back lunch on a sunny afternoon. Menu consists of fresh fish, shrimp, burgers & chicken sandwiches. My husband asked once how fresh the fish was and was told they caught it about 2 hours ago. Tartar sauce is wonderful- has a little kick to it. Calamari was lightly breaded & fried- delicious! Fries are great too! At the bar the only serve beer & wine but they've added mimosas available by the glass or pitcher. You can mix and match flavors like strawberry, blueberry pomegranate and mango. Outstanding fish and shrimp. Waitress actually cleaned the fish earlier that day. My wife loved the fries and hush puppies. Can't beat sitting by the water on the pier. The wait staff work at island speed. Not bad, just have to acclimate myself to it. Hope to be running on island speed soon. Live music was great. I could have done without the awkward dancing couple. Your are paying for the view, because the food is meh. I had the fish / chips / hushpuppies. Fish - Fresh, but overly breaded. The breading was like one thick shell. Trying to cut it just causes the insides to shoot out the side. Chips - Curly fries that were too thin, over-fried and too crispy. No potatoey goodness left inside. Hushpuppies - way to much greasy, fried breading. They don't have to be encrusted! I had the same entree at Howard's Pub -- so much better. read more

So as a non local I'll call it like I see it. Immediately walked in and everyone who worked here was super laid back and friendly. Wife had the freshly caught drum blackened - loved it. Son had chicken fingers loved it and I had the blackened tuna wrap (wow and yum). Wifey had a mimosa and I had a couple IPAs. Great start to ocracoke. Well done guys. read more

We've been here before and returned because our previous experience was great. This time the service was not at all great. We had questions for our server but she wouldn't stand still or pay attention enough for us to ask or for her to hear. Disappointing that they were out of peel and eat shrimp at a reasonably early hour of the evening. read more

The cheeseburger (which they claim to be famous for) was mediocre at best. The service was slow. We waited about an hour for 2 cheeseburgers and an order of chicken tenders. The waitress didn't check in to let us know about the delay and she never acted sorry for the wait. I know it's not her fault, but it made her come across as rude and apathetic. True, this restaurant is very close to the water front, but the tables are crowded together and the deck is so cramped that only about the first 4 tables have unobstructed water views. In short, go to the JOLLY ROGER a few doors down the road for BETTER water views and BETTER food!!! read more

We made a day trip from Frisco with our pup Mel and this place was great for her. We were promptly seated and the waitress asked if the pup needed water (they ended up bringing a dog bowl over). I had the oyster po boy and my husband had the shrimp po boy. We started off with hushpuppies that were delicious. The sandwiches were tasty and we got a burger for the pup. Both sandwiches had plenty of seafood. My oyster were large and fresh! My husband loved his shrimp! The beer was great in souvenir cups! Awesome service and very dog friendly! Thank you Smacnally's! We had lunch here a couple times during the very busy Ocracoke music festival. Despite being packed nearly all day for the entire weekend, service was pretty fast & good. Servers were friendly & efficient, gladly attending to all tables, not just a few in a certain section. Food was fairly quick to arrive despite every table being occupied. Our burgers, sandwiches & salads were all attractively presented & our table of 6 seemed to all enjoy their meals & beer. read more

I read other reviews raving about their burgers so we checked it out. They did not disappoint. Burgers were big & juicy, cooked to temperature. Curly fries were good but a little greasy. Service was a little slow but otherwise good & the location on the dock is great! There's also parking across the street which is convenient. read more

While it took quite a bit to get my food, I was at ease the whole time. Great breeze and a great view of the marina. I had the Smax burger - it was perfect. Waited 35 minutes for a table then 30 minutes sitting in 97 degree weather waiting on drinks. Not a good first impression.

Wow! Our family loved this place! We had lunch yesterday. We went early because we figured they would get crowded later and they did. It is a cute little casual restaurant that sits right on the docks/water. The atmosphere was relaxed with a beautiful view and the food was delicious. We had burgers, chicken sandwiches, and those yummy curly fries. I wish the drink menu had been a bit more extensive, but that was no biggie. We will definitely be back when we visit the island again! read more

The scallop po boy was not a po boy, it was a cheap doughy hamburger bun with maybe 7 quarter inch cubes of deep fried scallops. Server came with drink orders and my girlfriend got a blue moon instead of a cider, the server said something along the lines of "here're your drinks, I know you wanted a cider but I have a bluemoon here, you can just have it for free if you'd like and I'll still get you the cider." The cider never came, I reordered and got a burger instead of the "po boy," the black and bleu burger was mediocre, the fries were underdone and rubbery. Not coming back. read more

We decided last minute on a Friday afternoon, to take the ferry from Hatteras to Ocracoke. We really hadn't done much research so when we got off the ferry we followed the signs into the village, parked at the municipal lot and walked right over to SMacNallys. Seating was outdoors only, on the scenic harbor where we watched Pelicans and fishing charter boats come in with their daily catch. We were seated right away and were given an option to sit in the shade or closer to the water in the sun. The staff was very informative and attentive . Our drinks were thankfully, being refilled constantly without us asking. It was 97 degrees at about 4 pm so we drained our drinks quickly. We chose the catch of the day which was Cobia. I chose the blackened sandwich with curly fries. The fish was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. My husband chose the Cobia grilled dinner which was flaky, moist and delicious. It came with Cole slaw, curly fries and 2 hush puppies. My son had the grilled chicken cowgirl sandwich and my daughter had a cheeseburger my youngest had the chicken tenders and fries kids meal. There wasn't a crumb left, everyone enjoyed their meal. The bill was reasonable for 5 people and great considering the location. The menu had something for everyone. read more

Looked like a great place to stop in for a bite to eat and a nice drink. Stood by "wait to be seated" sign for about 5 minutes behind another group of people before we gave up and left. No one ever stopped by to greet us or even say they would be by to help us in a minute. There were a few open tables, so it was most likely just short staffed that particular day. Not a fan of poorly run restaurants, so most likely will not try again. read more
