The cupcakes were good but the ones with filling had very little filling inside and I did think $5.25/cupcake was kinda pricey for what you're getting. They're pretty but most are cake with just frosting on top, not too exciting. I'm not sure how long they'd been sitting out because the frosting had a full crust, dry to the touch & the whipped cream on the strawberries n cream was a bit chewy? Not soft/fluffy like fresh whipped cream even though she just put them out so maybe made earlier in the day in the back or something But the cakes themselves were moist They sell knick knacks in the store and Mayfield as well There's plenty of parking in the shared lot and nobody else was there when we went. The cake itself was good, but the communication was terrible. At the consultation I made a deposit and the owner told me she would send me the contract. Weeks passed; no contract. I left several text messages. No response. Then I received a text that she had just emailed the contract. She had not. Finally, the week before I was to pick up the cakes I received the contract via email. she said she had a sick child and could not respond. No way to run a business. I ordered a GF, vegan, nut-free cake for a party recently. This was the first time I had ordered from Small Cakes Cupcakery. The person who took my order was very thorough and very pleasant on the phone. My husband went to pick it up and called to tell me he had it and that it looked fine. Being a man, I wasn't expecting much of a reaction, but was hoping for more than "fine". When I finally got to see it I was thrilled - the cake was beautiful! But as anyone GF knows, the real test is the taste test. It did NOT disappoint! As a matter of fact, a friend unexpectedly brought another GF vegan cake to the party from another specialty bakery, so we were able to do a side-by-side taste comparison. Small Cakes definitely won! The cake was moist and did not have that dense GF taste and feel. The frosting was to die for! It was light, fluffy, not overly sweet, and absolutely delicious! This will be my go-to bakery from now on for GF cake!! The only thing I would like different is the option to ordering a sheet style cake. For a large party it is much easier to cut and serve a sheet cake than a round cake, but Small Cakes does not offer than option. It certainly is not a deal-breaker though due to the quality and presentation of the cake. read more

I am blown away by how much (what I presume is) the owner of this shop went above and beyond yesterday. We had finished having dinner with a group of friends and their children at Izumi next door around 8p.m. on a Sunday. The kids were really excited about getting a cupcake after dinner until we realized the shop was closed. This resulted in tears and sadness from a disappointed 4-year-old. The owner was still inside the cupcakery and saw the events unfolding. He completely stunned all of us by unlocking the doors, and bringing out a box of four cupcakes. Not only that, he didn't even charge us for them. We were blown away. This was a small gesture that had big impact. I've tried many cupcakes in many cities, but few compare or even surpass my neighborhood shop, Smallcakes. I highly recommend the Salted Caramel cupcake (comes in yellow or chocolate cake). The lemon and coconut cupcakes are good too if you like lighter desserts. If you need a chocolate fix, you can't go wrong with any of their selections. This location doesn't honor the punch cards from the Dallas Hwy location, which is a shame. But apparently they are under different management from the other locations. I always take guests visiting from out of town here for a treat. They're impressed too. It's a great addition to Woodstock! read more

I ordered a cake for a graduation party. While ordering the lady said "do you want writing on it". So I replied, "Sure, Congratulations Jennifer". Today I picked up the cake only to notice it said "Congrats Jennifer". There was not room for the full word but I was not told that nor did anyone call to tell me. I really hate congrats as it is so informal. I'd rather have had no writing. But since the lady asked I went for it. The cake was also too tall for the box. The girl explained that they haven't ordered the boxes for this cake size. I asked her to put another cover on it so it would not be exposed and was told no. I asked for a second box so I could make my own. It took me all of 30 seconds to fix up the box in a tent shape to protect it. I posted a note on Facebook for Small Cakes to rethink changing customer orders without notifying them and to order boxes to fit their cakes. My friend called after he had seen my post on FB to ask if I was serious about the box. When I got home the post had been removed. While the cupcakes and cakes taste great there is more to a business than just a good product. I will think twice before going there again. I want really upset until my posts were removed. Nice little cupcake shop with some good cupcake flavor options and samples of other baked goodies for sale. I really liked the chocolate chip cookie bits! The flavor of the cupcakes were okay but the icing was incredibly thick and heavy. I'm used to icing on cupcakes having a light, whipped, fluff type of consistency so maybe this is just a different type of cupcake. I had the blueberry cheesecake which was good. I really liked the cheesecake bites in the cupcake but it also has blueberry filling which was a little overwhelming so I didn't finish it, I also had the birthday cake which was plain vanilla and plain icing with sprinkles, the icing was very heavy so I didn't finish that either. I usually expect either confetti cake or cake batter flavor as "birthday cake" flavor but this was just a normal vanilla cupcake, I'm guessing the sprinkles make it birthday cake? My Mr. got the pink sugar and birthday cake as well and didn't finish his either because the icing made eating the cupcake very messy.
