As CLAG Brewing's on site restaurant and bar, we had an amazing experiencing spending an entire afternoon just enjoying the beer and eating a ton of amazing food. (See separate review for CLAG Brewing.) On arrival, it was mostly empty as it had just opened, but were told it would fill up. That was hard to believe as the place is huge, with multiple bar areas, tables of different sizes, and lots of standing. However, by the time we left it was filled! We sat at the main bar so we could talk to the owner. Our day had started with other breweries, so we were hungry and I'm glad we saved our tummies to dine here. I live in a city with tons of amazing Vietnamese restaurants, but this place blew them all away with maybe the most flavorful pho I've ever had. A huge bowl, not overly salty, with fresh produce and great flavor. Some of their beers are brewed perfectly to go with these zesty citrus flavors, so you really can't go wrong eating and drinking together. As I knew this was my only visit this trip, I also ordered a plate of fried rice which was also fantastic and I loved trying their sauces with it. Prices are so reasonable for the quality here. First they have alternative sushi wrappers for anyone else that does not like nori. The selection of drinks is awesome!!!! They have a PBJ strawberry hard seltzer that is think and sweet in the best way. It tastes like peanut butter captain crunch in the best possible way. If you like sweeter drinks you his is for you!!! The sours they had were all smoothie type, and I did not like any of their flavors. Fried pork dumplings 9/10 Good dumpling, decent dipping sauce, not super gingery, which was nice for me. Caterpillar roll 10/10 Really good. Didn't really taste the shrimp much, but the flavor profile and combination of ingredients was good. The spicy mayo was not really spicy, but it was a good flavor. Spider roll 8/10 I actually wasn't a huge fan, maybe I don't like soft shell crab as much as regular crab. We had another great night at the Tap House with friends. Unfortunately I told everybody about the Sushi 1/2 price specials only to find out it's only on the off season. Noah was our waiter. He was awesome. Up front he explained that he was new (by 3 days). He was so helpful with the varied menu, and recommended alternatives to our pre conceived sushi 1/2 price selection. Right from the moment we walked in, we noticed a pretty distinct aroma that seemed to carry over from the connected brewery. Unfortunately, it wasn't the most pleasant scent and it definitely lingered throughout the dining area, which made it a little hard to fully settle in and enjoy our time. On the bright side, your space is incredibly spacious, which is really great and we loved that you offer a fantastic selection of both beers and mixed drinks to choose from. We decided to sample quite a few things from the menu some classic sushi, shrimp fried rice, a shrimp tempura roll, orange chicken, spring rolls, and, of course, the yummy yummy roll. The shrimp fried rice was decent we noticed it featured some really generous, larger shrimp, which was a unique touch compared to what we usually find elsewhere. The shrimp tempura roll was tasty, though we were a little surprised by the presentation with the rice on the inside and seaweed on the outside just an unexpected twist. Flavor wise, the orange chicken was delicious, but the chicken itself was incredibly crunchy, almost to an extreme. The spring rolls were definitely a hit and very good. However, the absolute highlight was the yummy yummy roll it was genuinely excellent and came in a really nice portion size. Service was pretty good considering how busy it seemed. Our server was really hustling with quite a few tables, and we even saw what looked like the owner or a manager pitching in to help, which was great to see everyone working hard. Truth be told, we ended up rushing our meal a bit mostly because of that pervasive brewery smell. It's a shame, especially since we were specifically looking for dining options in the area and there weren't many other choices around. read more

A beautiful awesome day amazing people of the world. Today we are at the Small City Tap House in Sandusky, Ohio. A fusion joint that combines Asian and American cuisine. We're here due to a recommendation so let's get the food review started shall we. First up is the Meatball Banh Mi. The soup was tomato based, it was mid. Then I built myself a banhmi with a meatball and the pickled veg. It didn't hit, but not bad either 6.7/10 The Grilled Lemongrass Beef on the other hand was wonderful. All that wonderful viet forward flavor that I adore is present on the meat. Wrap all that up together with the picked veg and I am in my happy place. 8.9/10 The place is pretty nice with that industrial historic feel. The service is on point and the beverages were refreshing. If you're ever in Sandusky, do give this place a go at it and lemme know what you think. We decided to try Small City Taphouse in Sandusky, OH while visiting Cedar Point. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've ever had. Our server was Marissa. Service was slow from the start. For example, our boys sweet tea was served after our meals had already arrived. We ordered the spicy crispy chicken, beef flat noodles, bok choy with tofu, combination fried rice, spicy tuna rolls, and a spider roll. The portion sizes for all dishes were smaller than expected for the price, and the food lacked flavor--unfortunately, it was a letdown. Service was even worse--our boys' drinks arrived only after the food, no refills were offered, and our server NEVER checked on us once. When we were ready to pay, she was nowhere to be found. After finally bringing the check, she never returned to collect it, so we took it to the front, only to be told that payment had to be made directly through our server, causing further delays. Overall, this was one of the worst dining experiences we've had in terms of both food and service. Even McDonald's would have been a better choice. read more

This place is EXACTLY what we needed after a long two days at Cedar Park Drinks, sushi, apps, curry - what else do you need?! We stumbled upon this place after searching on Yelp and the reviews were so fantastic that we needed to give it a try! The space is ample and so spacious. Tons of big screens and bar seating if that's your vibe. They also have a taproom upstairs AND downstairs, so their drink list is EXTENSIVE. Our server, Trent, was awesome. So warm and very friendly. He gave us suggestions and got our orders out immediately. He kept tabs on us but wasn't overbearing. We enjoyed his service very much. Now to the food!! My kids shared the combo pho (full of brisket, meatballs, and steak) and it was very tasty. My daughter said the broth was delicious. My husband had the curry with rice, and it was pretty typical. I had the "big ass roll" (that's the actual name ) and it was HUGE but DELICIOUS. I don't like spicy food but this had just the right amount of kick to it. My dad had the caramelized catfish that came out in this cool clay bowl. I didn't get any pics but suffice it to say that it was INCREDIBLE. He ate every last bite. We will definitely hit this place up again next time we're in town. I low key wish I was local so I could visit more often. This place is a gem. read more

Good food, good drink selection, and a good location?! Small city is a great place to go. They have a ton of great Vietnamese food options. They also have really good sushi and have some specials during the off season. It's a tap house, so you should be able to find something you like to drink. They offer the tap beers in multiple sizes so you can kind of build your own flight. We love that it's in the heart of downtown Sandusky. The city is very walkable and there's a parking garage close by. The only downside is sometimes they get super busy, so you have to be patient with the service during those times. read more

We started with the pork spring rolls and they were some of the best I have ever eaten anywhere. We then shared a Small City roll which was good, though the sandwich style it was served was less than optimal. We ended the meal with their Phô and it was spot on. Extremely flavorful and full of noodles, beef and vegetables. They also have a stellar bourbon selection at very good prices. The only reason I did not give 5 stars was the service. Awesome casual dining spot right outside the cedar point area! We came here after a long day at cedar point after not eating "real" food all day and it definitely hit the spot! Big selection of different Asian style foods so there should be something for everyone. The part that really threw me for a loop was their large draft selection also which is something uncommon with Asian cuisine usually! A taphouse and asian food are not normally two things I'd expect to see together, but Small City Taphouse pulls it off! I went here in June and I was pleasantly surprised by how yummy the food I got was! I'm not super familiar with the dishes they had on their menu, so I ordered the soft egg noodle dish with beef. Omg... it was so yummy! A bit more sweet than savory, but not too sweet by any means. I wish I lived closer so I could go get it again and try their fried rice! Food is incredible. Their Squid salad is killer good. You will love their sushi rolls. I prefer the Eel roll. Their soft Spring rolls with beef and shrimp are sooo good. I've tried their beef Pho also it's good. The atmosphere is great. Service is very good and the prices are reasonable. Happened to be in the area on Saturday and saw a billboard on I-90 for Small City Taphouse. As a beer lover and someone who craves Asian food, this was a phenomenal find! Upon entering the restaurant, I loved the vibe. Two large bars to choose from along with tables in the restaurant. The bar we chose probably seats 35-45 people. It was huge with plenty of space for social distancing. Then there's also lounge areas with couches and tables next to the bar. It appears they have a patio when the weather is nicer too. After checking out the beer list, we decided to try their Pilsner (CLAG Brewing) and the Butcher and the Brewers Spilled Macchiato Stout. Both beers were excellent. I loved the glasses that they serve the beer, water, and even the flights in. Tried the CLAG Vietnamese Coffee Breakfast Stout after the first round which was really good too. Everything on the food menu sounded delicious so we asked the bartender for suggestions or customer favorites. The bartender, Whitney, suggested the Spicy Crispy Chicken and we also decided to order the Sampler Appetizer. The Spicy Crispy Chicken was so good! The chicken was definitely crispy, had a spicy sauce, and was served with vegetables and sticky rice. Every bite was delicious - for this wimp, it was so spicy but worth the burn! The Sampler Appetizer was really good too! Very tasty, fresh, perfectly fried and served with good sauces for dipping. I decided even before trying the food that I have to come back, but then after eating about two bites, it was a definite plan to come back as soon as I can! Loved everything about this place. Absolutely fantastic food, amazing noodles. I live in Chicago where there are plenty of options and this holds up to any of them. BUT for god's sake, stop labeling your beers as imperial ipa or ipa. What a great little place. I say little but it's actually quite big. The taphouse section is separated from the main dining section. Tons of beers on tap and they do flights which is nice for people who like to sample. The food was all delicious and came out quickly despite the fact that they were fairly busy on a Saturday at lunchtime. The deconstructed Bahn mi sandwich was delicious if different. The meatballs were in a very savory broth and the toasted baguette was diagonally sliced for easy pulling and dipping. Saw that the yelp reviews have gone up in the past couple years since we stopped going to give this place chances with their noodle dishes. Decided to do a stay in birthday dinner take out style. So just a heads up if you order Pho from them: According to the manager--you get a raw hunk of bloody meat that oozes all over your toppings and already-cooked portions of meat and it is "supposed to come that way".... Studying for my ServSafe Management certification--I would have to heat allllll of the bloody raw ingredients up to at least 160 degrees to kill the bacteria that is exponentially growing in this lukewarm environment. Which... would make this a cooked soup with no fresh/raw toppings and extremely well-done noodles. Yuk. And we never even got the meat for the other yellow noodle soup. Two stars for the sushi which was good--but I found a white lash or hair in it. *sigh* read more

What a great place for sushi! It is currently under renovation, so you have to pardon a little bit of dust. But from what I understand, they are expanding because of their popularity. And I can see why! The sushi was very fresh. You have a wide variety of options. I always go with a California roll or something similar. They have the best shrimp fried rice that I've ever tasted. I know that may sound odd as shrimp fried rice is a pretty basic/common meal; but I will get it every time I stop by this place. It is the only shrimp fried rice that I've ever tasted where I don't have to add any sauce. It's excellent! They also have a wide variety of beers. I would suggest ordering a flight of beers and sampling several different varieties. They have a great selection. Anytime we are in town, we will definitely be stopping here.
