We scheduled two separate moves with Small Haul over the Sept 1-2 weekend in Boston which is notoriously one of the busiest times to move in the city. After our experience with Small Haul, we're really sad to have moved so far away, because we won't have them next time. When I reached out for a multi-state move, I was a little worried I picked too small a company for such a big job. I had nothing to worry about. David was communicative from the start, and made everything super easy for us. The pre move checklist and sending photos ensured we really didn't have to think hard about anything, which lifted a huge burden off of us among everything else we had to prepare. We moved from Boston to California! Not only were David and Deric so kind, efficient, and gentle with our items, they were excited about taking such a crazy long road trip. Which was great because I was worried the drive would be cruel to impose on someone haha. Everything went so smoothly, from loading the truck (they were really fast for 2 people), the drive itself, and to them showing up right on time on the opposite end of the country to unload. Our fragile items (of which there were many-sorry) were handled with care. Thousands of miles and not a single thing broke! Including delicate taxidermy, dozens of sheets of glass, and tiny fragile tube amps. They packed it all up so well. Also the cost for the job was extremely reasonable, and they were very transparent about it through the whole process. Seriously I can't recommend these guys enough. This is my kind of company - fill out a form, get a response within minutes with a breakdown of costs etc. and pick a date - total convenience. I needed some flooring picked up from Home Depot and brought up to my unit - they were on time, fast and friendly. They will do smaller jobs that a lot of moving companies aren't interested in, but they do large moves as well. I will definitely be using them again soon. read more

Selfishly reviewing Small Haul Movers because I need them again and I had to revert to old phone bills to remember their name. Might have reviewed before but could not find it if I did. The team they had was incredible - just two of them and a box truck (I commute to Boston and just have a 1 bed there). Signed up for the wrap & pack and the move. The bill was about $1200 bucks for a 15 or so mile move. They wrapped and packed everything in less than 3 hours and completed the entire move in about 6-7 hours - worked carefully and quickly. I wish they did long distance for the family move from Texas coming next month but I do have them to take care of stage 1! Recommend enthusiastically with no reservations! read more

This company is great!! They showed up exactly at 7:00am. My daughter used Small Haul for her move from one apartment to another in the South End. They did an amazing job. My daughter had everything laid out for them to take (all her heavy furniture and heaviest boxes). They were done loading up her old apartment in 30 minutes and headed to her new place. I moved from Somerville to East Boston yesterday, and I chose to hire Small Haul based on their reviews. This was my first time using movers, so I was a little hesitant since I typically have a pretty DIY attitude. However, in 90 degree heat immediately followed by an all afternoon/night thunderstorm, having movers to speed up the process was an absolute godsend. Matt and Steve called me 1 hour before the beginning of my estimated arrival window letting me know they finished the first move early and asked if they could arrive 30 mins early. EARLY! They took great care of all of my belongings and I never had to worry about liquids, glass, or anything valuable. These 2 guys worked their butts off carrying all my stuff up 3 floors on a hot, sunny day during a pandemic and were incredibly friendly and professional the entire time. If I'd have attempted this move myself I would have gotten stuck out in a very bad downpour. In addition to Steve and Matt, Azuraye was excellent at answering any questions I had and referring me to a service that assisted with parking permits. All that said, I also paid WITH tip, the same amount I was quoted by several other local companies, and those quotes didn't include a gratuity. Honestly don't go to anyone else if you're moving apartments to and from Boston. Of all the services we researched, Small Haul's estimate was half of the nearest quote we received. From the beginning David was extremely helpful in scheduling our move and answering any questions we had. On moving day the team was punctual, courteous and efficient- even in 80+ degree weather. We moved from two 600 sqf 1 bedroom apartments to a 1200+ sqf 2 bedroom loft; they handled everything in one day. The estimate was dead on for both timing and cost- even after we realized we forgot an oversized mirror that we had to turn back and pick up. I contacted the company and they were very understanding, and were able to reschedule me for later in the day after another move. I was moving from a 1br apt to a new house. Azuraye was very helpful in booking my initial move date, which I needed to eventually delay by 48 hours. She accommodated the date change, very quickly. Grant and Matt were punctual, professional, and efficient. The guys were in a sprinter van, not a moving truck as I only had a modest amount of furniture and belongings to move. Not recommended for anyone. The movers were helpful but the truck was very small. Minority's of the time was used to try and fit my boxes in the truck. As per your request the proposal clearly stated a 2 bedroom apartment and two queen beds and the number of boxes. Your company sent a cargo van to move a 2 bed room apartment. I am sure you have been in the business long enough to understand that a two bedroom cannot fit in a cargo van. Because of the small size of the van the movers had to fit everything slowly which increased the moving time. The movers arrived late and move took long than expected during peak traffic hours. Requested time was made to avoid traffic. Lastly, the review is not going to benefit me anyways as I have already made the payment. But it will save the hundreds of other customers who may benefit from review before consulting for business. The estimates are well laid out, a questionnaire to best get an estimate, and they have a texting system to get answers to your questions. David and Jordan were awesome, quickly and efficiently moving my possessions with care. They were responsive and helpful to address the many questions I had regarding the move I needed to make very quickly. We moved two days after my initial contact! They were thorough in their questions to arrive at an estimate that was fair. The actual final invoice was slightly less than the estimate; I was quite impressed. Small Haul was also timely arriving on move day. They brought and packed boxes as I had requested for my kitchen breakables. They had a clear and organized process and the entire move --even though I moved from a difficult building with steps, turns and a small elevator to exit, ran like clockwork! This is the third time I've used Small Haul and the second since Charles took over the business. Each time, the move was stressful for me and complicated - not enough time to pack calmly, lots of stairs, very heavy furniture and large framed art, some coming with me and some requiring a storage unit Charles found for me at a good price. This week it was getting my stuff from the storage unit an hour away and loading all that plus everything from my 3rd floor condo and basement storage into a U-Haul I rented to move to Philadelphia. Charles is really communicative, professional, and lovely to deal with, plus the rates are very reasonable. Small Haul employs smart guys, who are strong, Jenga master-loaders, and good humored. I wanted to take the time to give 5 stars to this group. There was some furniture (about a trucks worth), that I was being given that I was about to loose if not moved in 3 days. After calling everyone I knew with trucks on the 1st day, nobody available. On day 2 I thought "hey, I'll rent a van"...... turns out, so doesn't everyone else on a Saturday!!! Then off I went to Google and that's how I found Small Haul. From the first communication on the phone, to "working me in" (keep in mind I'm calling on Friday for Saturday morning service), to the professional young man that came and helped me the next day (on time)I would recommend them all the time. I will say, their first "quote" was a bit high so I did counter-offer and it was received. I got great service, fair pricing, and HUGE piece of mind for that experience. I would recommend them, I would use them again, and I have comfort knowing I don't have to hire a big moving company and a big sticker tag to get help! I purchased two dressers off of Craigslist and knew I could not move them myself. I live in a third floor walk up with a completely horrible staircase that has both a low ceiling and is half-walled. I was able to book Matt within a couple of days notice (was in the middle of the month). He was responsive and friendly! The day of the move, Matt and his worker showed up exactly on time. They moved the dressers from their original home with no problem. Then came my apartment: it was a very difficult job getting this long dresser up the stairs. He was persistent and tried everything he could. He was about to give up when he realized the legs came off the dresser. That give him the extra few inches to maneuver. It was an impressive site! He even moved our two old dressers down the stairs, even though I hadn't originally asked him too. I think his rates are very reasonable. There are certainly cheaper options out there (like your cousin Joe and his pick up), but these guys are fully insured and experienced movers. I could have never done this myself, and it was well worth the money. I have absolutely no reservations about recommending Small Haul to anyone! read more

Last summer my fiance and I were moving and thought we were going to be able to move our big plasma TV on our own. A few days later we weren't confident that we would be able to keep it upright while maneuvering through 4 sets of doors, down stairs, and had to come up with a last minute plan B. Matt saved the day. I would have given him 5 stars just for his reasonable prices and for not dropping our TV but it's his customer service that puts him above the rest. We tried to use Matt a second time to purchase a bed we found on Craigslist. When we got to the seller the bed wasn't as it had been advertised (full not a queen) and we didn't want it. Matt takes all the stress out of moving and does it for a lot cheaper than anyone else can, in my experience. He's friendly, capable, knowledgeable, and flexible. He knew exactly how to negotiate my huge sofa through some tight doorways and pack the truck up with room to spare and plenty of cushioning for my TV. And we had everything moved across town in 2 hours flat, just me and him and a big U-Haul. My last movers broke an unusually shaped vanity mirror and we had to replace it, but I never had any doubts that my furniture was in good hands with Matt. My Small Haul is great. No other moving company does what Matt does. (You can't call up Gentle Giant and ask if they'll move a couch for you tomorrow, can you?) Moving things, on short notice. That is what Matt does. He doesn't move rooms, and he doesn't move things very far either. He moves things around the city. And he does it well and very quickly. Sure you can get someone to do this via Craigslist, but then they're not insured and bonded and you don't even know if they'll show up. You could rent a truck, but then, well, you have to rent the truck! (and find some friends to help you carry things). Matt has the truck, and he carries things. It's great! (and he's not too expensive either). Matt moved a queen mattress for me from Watertown to my new loft in JP. He showed up on time and we got the mattress out of the basement in no time (he had the great idea of strapping the mattress and bending it in half a bit so it would fit through the door, a problem I had trouble solving when I got the thing in there in the first place). We drove over and I rode along and we got it up to my loft in no time. It was great. He even took some boxes that I also had to move in the back of his truck for free.
