I visited Small Town Burger as part of my effort to get a hot dog in every county and incorporated city in Virginia. STB was my Lancaster County stop. It was a hot early evening stop. There is plenty of parking near by and STB shares a lot with a few other businesses. I enjoyed walking around Kilmarnock before getting my meal. I seemed to surprise the gentleman in the truck when I got to the counter cause I spooked him a little. I bet it was really hot inside so I don't blame him for maybe zoning out. I ordered a hot dog and asked what toppings they had. Sounded pretty standard so I just got ketchup and mustard. I got a bottle of root beer to drink and took my seat in the shadiest spot I could find. It wasn't long before my order was ready and I went up to the truck to get it. I was handed a plain hot dog in a basket. Not a huge deal, I got ketchup from the dispenser but had to go back and ask for mustard. He apologized for forgetting to add the toppings. I really liked how the hot dog was scored on top. It was a big dog with a nice bun too. Altogether it was fine visit but nothing great. read more

I have been here numerous times and the burgers were fantasti...in spite of being a bit pricey the burgers were worth it! However, the last time most recent the burgers were not juicy and were lukewarm...unlike previous times. This time time the wait was nearly 20 minutes. Upon arrival there was 1 couple finishing up so it was not busy at all. While waiting several customers showed and while our wait was so long we thought at least our food would be good and hot...freshly made! At the front window you can see white bags lining up with filled orders, 5 of them.Hung and anxious my friend and I dove in and looked at each other because it was practically cold and the meat was dry. This was a major disappointment and will only return if improvements are made... It appears a bunch of burger patties are cooked and set aside for when customers come and the burgers are reheated or warmed to fill orders. Why do I say this...? Because when I grabbed my order at the window meat patties were being placed on the griddle covering it...nope...no customers placing orders! Why were all those burger patties being cooked if there were no customers to order or purchase them? It was 2:00 pm in the afternoon... Totally unlike all the other times we've eaten here, this was the biggest disappointment ever! So, if you're expecting a juicy, hot burger here... you might want to reconsider and eat elsewhere! read more

Burgers are expensive but great! The fries have old bay on them which I don't understand with a burger. I always ask for no seasoning on my fries. The lobster roll was ridiculously bad. The sauce that the lobster was tossed in was so watery that it completely soaked the roll and it became a flat piece of wet dough that you could not even pick up. It was disgusting. I had to go ask a fork just so I could eat the lobster without the roll. Anyone who has had lobster rolls before understand that the role is very important and it should not be flat mushy and wet. When I went to get the fork, I was asked why I needed a fork for the lobster roll and I told them that the role was ruined and wet and I couldn't even pick it up. I was then told that the next time I ordered a lobster roll I should get the one with the butter. I was then informed that I must not have been aware of what I was ordering and that's why it wasn't what I expected. I informed them that I was very aware of what I was ordering because I used to own a seafood restaurant and market and that what was served to me was unacceptable. I won't be getting lobster rolls there again, but I will go back for a burger. read more

Small Town Burger makes the BEST hamburgers in Kilmarnock. Certainly not the cheapest or even close, but if you want a great burger, this is your place. Fries cost extra (of course), but they are PLENTY enough for two so unless you are powerfully hungry, no need to over do it. They have a lot of great seating and plenty of shade, but the flies are FIERCE. Come prepared or get it to go if those really get to you. Highly recommend the food and the service has always been great. I've also had the lobster rolls. They are good, but not as great. Certainly worth a try, but once you get that out of your system you are likely not to return to it. read more

Too expensive for a food truck, and the lobster rolls were disappointing. Burgers are good, but you can get half a pound of beef with a double QPC at McDonald's which is cooked in its own fat and (if you use the app), 1/3 of the price. "Oh, but it's McDonald's", you might be saying. Yes, but the QPC is basically the healthiest thing on the menu, and at least McDonalds has good fries. Nothing remarkable in either direction with the service. Drinks are too expensive as well. Music is loud and generally annoying. I've also heard rumors that the owners 1099s his employees which I'm pretty sure is illegal in almost all service employee settings. Northern Neck has a serious problem with shady restaurant owners. read more

Once I walked in the smell attracts me even more. The area was pretty and even had a spit to walk dogs. I loved playing cornhole with my family and sitting near the fire at out table. That was something I'll remember. The food can out after a bit and it was so pretty and juicy. The patty was so big that it didn't fit in the bun. The fries tasted amazing same with my burger. I ordered this for pickup to go, and the parking lot was so full I couldn't get in! After politely being told that parking next to the lot was not ok, I found a spot and passed the cute outside seating area where dogs are allowed and followed the delicious smells coming from the food truck! My order was ready on time and all correct, and service was polite as well! The burger was amazing, messy, saucy, and downright fabulous. The fries were plentiful and had a hint of seasoning, not overwhelming. I got one of the fabulous donuts, too! Prompted at payment to accept paying a 20% tip at a food trailer in a parking lot. There's no reality or understanding of actual service rendered. Burger was good but nothing spectacular. They changed to tallow oil to deep fry in and said they're learning about using it when cooking fries. These are the worst fries you could buy for the money. All pieces, only a few actual curly fries. Looks like they're buying seconds. You're sitting literally in a parking lot, this is not an artisan burger experience. They need to realize that this ala-cart experience needs to combine some of your natural choices and offer more competitive drink choices. Oh the buttery goodness of that Lobster Roll! Just thinking about it makes me drool. It's lobster, so it's pricey, but worth it! They ask if you want extra meat, but I didn't need it. The standard one comes packed full. The kids had burgers and scarfed them down. The only water available is in an expensive glass bottle, so bring your own. It's a walk up food truck with a great outdoor eating area. We played corn hole with the kids after we ate. In the middle of summer it is hot outside. This was an outdoor foodie's dream and had such a cool vibe! The Connecticut style Lobster Roll featured fresh lobster sauteed in lemon butter topped with lemon, served on a top split New England brioche bun, dusted with a hint of Old Bay. Of course I had to try their burger too. I loved the Big Time Burger with bacon featuring a juicy burgers topped with four slices of american cheese, fresh lettuce, tomato, onion, and their homemade STB sauce all served on a crisped brioche bun. We tried the new Urbanna location. It is a cute spot with gravel pathways, dog friendly. You place your order at the truck window and then they call your name when it is ready and hand off your food in a white craft paper shopping bag, cute if you aren't eating in, we would have rather had a paper plate. My husband and I shared the big burger with bacon and fries. They cut the burger for us which was nice but it was in a clamshell, so it was hard to eat. It was a good, solid burger. The curly fries with old bay were good, not great. Including tip, it was $29, one burger, one fries, no drinks. We've heard a few complaints from others that it is overpriced for what it is. read more

Small Town Burger sells small time burgers. I love the vibe of this place and the unique setting that is dog-friendly. An attentive, hard-working staff serves fries spiced with Old Bay that are not to be missed. It makes you wonder why no one else serves them. But look, it's all about the burger here. With a name like that, you need to make a great burger, but they don't. They serve up nice, big burgers properly tricked out with fixins and their signature sauce - but a great opportunity is missed because, like NN Burger, they insist on mashing all the flavor out of the meat. They pack it so dense the juices can't flow, and if you just taste the meat itself, you discover it has no flavor, other than the singed outside. A hamburger is properly made by packing the meat together by hand, keeping it as loose as possible. We will all be better off once people realize what a mistake "pressed burgers" are. That's what you get at national chain burger franchises, which serve burgers that are just as tasteless for the same reason. Small Town Burger also tends to overcook their burgers. I should just give them 2 stars, but it is a local business with potential and I grade on a curve in hopes that they will one day cook a pair of hamburgers, side by side, crushing one while loosely forming the other and discover how to take their burger game to the next level. A nice outdoor lot set up with tables (several with umbrellas) and a clean nice lot in front of their food trailer putting out excellent smash burgers and Curley fries lightly seasoned with Old Bay to let the potato taste come through. They also have a lobster roll and a hot dog to round out the food menu. The burgers are top notch being cooked to order, hot, juicy and on a fresh Brioche bun. The only beverages are bottled soft drinks and fancy Italian spring water all served in glass bottles which they recycle!
