For the holidays we fell in love with their cocoa bombs, and just yesterday I purchased a couple of cake pops, which is a new item. LISTEN TO ME.....it was the absolute best cake pop I've ever had! It was strawberry and tasted amazing! I'm so mad I didn't buy more as I only I have one more left! We also purchased a few cupcakes in a jar. We can't wait to try those along with the new cocoa bomb flavors, salted caramel, birthday cake, cookies and cream and (if I'm remembering correctly, Cinnabon. I was so excited to stop in and try one of the cupcakes, and I had just checked into Yelp. I am a lover of taking pictures and was polite enough to ask one of the clerks if it was okay to take a picture of the display. To my dismay and disbelief, I was told "no" that I could not take a picture. I guess Smallcakes will not have my business. Too bad for the terrible customer service, they would have really pretty pictures posted to Yelp to help others see how beautiful of the cupcakes were. I will not step back into this business. This is an amazing little cupcake shop- and the Cary location is (in my opinion) the best. The staff are always cheery and up front about there recommendations, but most importantly the cupcakes are always moist and delicious. I can't recommend a flavor because they are seriously all so good. Smallcakes is a cute-as-a-button cupcake boutique. The highlight is the cake part - light, moist, and consistently prepared. They also have tons of different choices. The cream icing is fresh, but much sweeter than I prefer. The sweetness is a subjective preference rather than something objectively bad. Decorating is also really professionally done - something you'd serve as a special birthday treat rather than the plain-old-grocery-store-topping. My run-away favorite flavor is their lemon cupcake. The downside is that cupcakes run $4 a pop. But this is a stand-alone retail cupcake store, which has a business model that makes it difficult to sell more affordable cupcakes. read more

I have had Smallcakes a few times with exceptional service and decent cupcakes but yesterday I got a cupcake that was a vanilla base and chocolate icing. The cupcake was not dry nor moist. Tasted just like boxed cake mixed you get for $2 at Walmart (had the same texture of boxed mix as well) :( and the "chocolate" icing did not taste so chocolatey still tasted like regular buttercream to me. I would love to go to them again still but I hope that cupcake doesn't always taste like boxed mix and that was just a one time thing because their cupcakes are beautiful and staff are nice ! read more

Its is fine cake place. The only downside is there weren't cakes not filled with lots of icing. So if you're looking for less sugary then bundt cake is better. This is good for celebrations. They are a bit pricey. They even charge for a small candle and a box and they don't tell you or print the price so a bit sneaky. read more

I needed cupcakes on a Sunday for my husband's birthday. We recently moved and are still unpacking. This was the only place open on Sunday that had baked goods. After reading the reviews, I was really excited to try it out. They have 12 different types of cupcakes. I ordered the cannoli cupcakes, the Mamosa cupcakes, and a red velvet cupcakes. The Mamosa cupcake and the Red velvet cupcakes were absolutely delicious! However the cannoli cupcakes were very rich and had so much flavor. it was difficult to eat the entire cupcake. I've had cannoli cupcakes from The Fresh Market that were better. I would recommend this place to others in the future, especially their regular flavors. Yeah for a cupcake store close to me! We decided to stop here after dinner out. We purchased four cupcakes to take home which was around $15. We tasted them all and the cake was tender and flavorful. The icing is a bit much for me but perfect for my husband who is a sweet fiend. It would have been nice to have some type of berry cupcake that wasn't as sweet or even small ones to purchase on site. There was plenty of seating including outside and it's location next to cine bowl can't hurt! I'm sure we will come back to try some more. read more

I was told to make sure and check out the new cupcakery that just opened in Parkside and definitely was not disappointed. We were celebrating my Mom's birthday and thought a set of 4 would be great for her and my Dad to try. The staff was superb at answering questions about flavors and fillings and the cupcakes were fantastic! Super moist with just the right amount of icing to cupcake. This will definitely be the place to get cupcakes from now on. Others in the area can't touch the quality. I highly recommend the Red Velvet, Birthday Cake and Chocolate Chip Cooke Dough (when available). I personally don't think their cupcakes are that great. Sometimes they straight up taste like cardboard, especially anything chocolate. I once had Italian wedding cake and it was disgusting. Mostly way too much icing that is bland or doesn't match the flavor of the cupcake. I'm just not impressed. Publix has better flavor lol and this place is SO expensive.
