I sent an email to the business to inquire on vegan cupcakes. They responded very timely stating they did offer this product. I placed an order online, prepaid and received a confirmation. When I arrived at the location to pick up my order, the cashier, Jalisa, stated that they did not have the cupcakes I had ordered and the owner stated I could request something else. I informed the cashier, that I requested vegan for a specific reason and something else would not be efficient. I then requested a refund, to which she replied, only the owner could issue a refund and that would have to be done the next day. With this being the first time patronizing this business, this was a bad business practice and I would not recommend this business to anyone looking for a specific order. The decent thing would have been to call me and let me know that my order would not be fulfilled, instead of making me waste my time traveling to a location which was 20 minutes away from my home. On our way to the movies at Ayrsley Town Center, made a quick stop into this bakery for some indulgent treat! The place itself is also small, with minimal amount of chairs...somewhat conducive for ordering to go. I've been to other cupcake bakeries in town, as well as out of town, and honestly, this one is the most basic I've seen...meaning, nothing frilly or fancy. Still, the variety of cupcakes that were featured looked really good! BTW, I liked the attractive presentation of all the cupcakes, all labeled for easy ordering. After checking out some pics on Yelp, it seems to me that the variety of cupcakes were a bit different...so my guess is that the selection changes throughout the week? Anyway, I decided to order 4 cupcakes (Red Velvet, Pumpkin Spice, Strawberry with Butterscotch and Pink Vanilla), which I believe were priced at $15 (so approx $4 each). I guess this is about the norm for most cupcake bakeries. Since each cupcake is probably about 500 calories each, I really couldn't afford to eat all of it...so I just took several bites off each. I personally liked the Strawberry with Butterscotch the best, but they all were Dee-Lish! I have to say that the service was somewhat annoying and awkward at best. There were 2-3 small groups of customers (just 4 in total), including me, that came in around the same time, so I can get that they might have been a bit startled...but they all seemed more confused than they should be. Actually, part of this confusion is the horrible layout...which made it hard to determine just where to get in line, and where to order the cakes! Anyway, there were 3 female staff members there, yet It took a good 2-3 minutes before one of them offered assistance. Up until then, all 3 girls just sort of stared at us, darting from one to the next...again, confused as to who to help and when! I can't recall if any of them actually greeted us, nor if any of them even offered up a smile. The reception was just a bit odd... awkward. Also, when we were at the register, the cashier made the check-out process seem much more confusing and difficult than it should be. A Newbie, I suppose?? Again, I wasn't over or underwhelmed, but somewhat annoyed during my short stay. Still, this is a great, little cupcake bakery chain that's finally moved down South...so all I can say is that I'm glad it's here! We don't get many cool places in Steele Creek, so this is a very welcome addition to the neighborhood. My husband went a picked us up some cupcakes to go. He called to tell me what flavors they had and I was disappointed because there were only three non-chocolate flavors and two of them were basically vanilla. My husband asked if they could do any special orders and they did! They made me their caramel with pretzels on a vanilla cupcake instead of a chocolate cupcake. I also got a lemon drop cupcake. My husband and a friend got the millionaire pie and caramel with pretzels (on a chocolate cupcake). We all loved them. The cake was moist and flavorful. The icing was delicious. My favorite was the caramel one but both were great. My husband said they were super friendly in the store. They also have some free samples of their special cupcake for the week. They also have ice cream and come cool creations like a cupcake smash (ice cream between to halves of a cupcake) and cupcake milkshakes. I can't wait to go back and try those. Gosh! We ate these so fast that I forgot to take a picture! I was picking up thai food after a quick stop at the outlets when I noticed this cupcake and ice cream shop next door. We got there right as they were closing but were still welcomed to come in and take a look. We couldn't help but order from their delicious offerings. They serve cupcakes, ice cream in different forms, brookies, brownies, soft drinks and even saw some pet treats. I ordered the red velvet and vanilla caramel cupcake. I recently stopped by SmallCakes on Steele Creek for some sweets! The inside is pretty intimate with some single table seating, a high top bar-like table along the windows and some seating outside. There was also this cute backdrop that I took a snap shot. I was welcomed and served by Leigh who was warm and helpful in the decision making process (which ice cream to pick lol). I decided to try a sample of banana pudding and Oreo cheesecake. Both were delicious but the banana pudding ice cream stood out more to me. I got a single scoop which is 5oz for about $4. It was a nice amount of ice cream for the size. This ice cream definitely tasted like banana pudding and will purchase again. I also decided to treat myself to four cupcakes (butter cake, cookies & cream, carrot, and strawberry) and a pecan brownie. I've only had the butter cake cupcake so far. The icing was a bit much BUT overall the cupcake was great. The cupcake was so soft, fluffy and moist! I am excited to try the other treats. In total I spent about $30 including a tip. Ordered using door dash. Super fast. Received exactly what I ordered. We ordered a 4 pack of cupcakes: strawberry, chocolate peanut butter, wedding cake, and lemon. They're beautifully presented in a pink polka dot box with a seal. The cupcakes were beautiful too. The strawberry had half of a fresh strawberry on top! The cakes are moist and dense. Icing is sweet but not overwhelming. A lot of cupcake shops use way too much icing in comparison to the cake. This was a nice balance. The lemon was my favorite. Lemony but not artificial. The wedding cake has a nice almond flavor. The chocolate peanut butter was very rich but moist and delicious. The strawberry cake and icing were good but they added a glaze that was a bit sticky. I hate to do this because I love supporting locally-owned businesses, but I need to update my review. When this location first opened, they always offered gluten-free cupcakes. I have come back several times to pick up a gluten-free cupcake and they never have them. The last time I was here, which was only a couple of weeks ago, I was told Gluten-free cupcakes are only available on Fridays. Today I stopped by --on a Friday-- and there are still no GF cupcakes. The person who's working the counter today told me that gluten-free cupcakes are NOT stocked on Fridays. If their own staff don't know when they have gluten-free cupcakes, how are their customers supposed to know? Of course, I want ice cream and a cupcake for lunch! I wasn't aware of this place before I jumped on Yelp to help me find a bakery. But I'm GLAD I found this place. It's tucked in the shopping center behind the Waffle House, so there's plenty of parking. Walking in.. the nostalgia of warm sugar hugs your nose and reminds you of all the great decisions you make... or at least it did for me (lol). It's easy to want to buy every flavor because they're so beautifully displayed when you first walk in. There are a few places to sit and enjoy your cupcake and ice cream, but both are securely packaged to-go. I finally made a decision and tried the lemon cupcake and was elated simply because it wasn't a dry piece of cake with a bunch of icing. It was DELICIOUS! I got both a cupcake and a small cup of ice cream for about $6 (yes, please)! While, I'm not a huge fan of a lot of icing on top of my cupcakes, the icing and lemon filling paired perfectly with my vanilla bean ice cream. Did I mention that I enjoyed ALL OF THIS back at my desk?! Again... the cupcake is packaged in a beautiful to-go box so it was in tact by the time I got back to the office (about a 10 minute drive) and my ice cream didn't melt (they don't have the flimsy thin ice cream cups). Ok, finally made it back and tried some not so traditional cupcakes. This is now my go-to Charlotte cupcake place. It's also near my area, so super convenient. The cupcakes are a great size and the flavors are spot on! I ordered the Caramel Crunch, Key Lime Pie, Strawberry and Carrot Cake. The caramel crunch cupcake was something special. The frosting was literally like a caramel frosting and the crunch and saltiness of the pretzels really brough it all together. Key Lime Pie tastes just like Key Lime Pie. Who doesn't love key lime pie?? Lol The carrot and strawberry cupcakes were also very delicious, moist and the perfect treat. My family enjoyed them as well. Can defintely say I'll be back. I went to check out this place while waiting on my food at a restaurant nearby. It was a really cute shop. Bright, colorful, cheery and the perfect aesthetic for a cupcake shop. It took me a few minutes to decide what I wanted and I ended up choosing a half dozen cupcakes which are quite pricey so I figured they must be phenomenal. They are $3.75 each and I believe I paid about 24 bucks with tax. Yikes, but okay they must be really amazing. I got the cannoli, red velvet, lemon, almond wedding cake, peanut butter and chocolate and the chocolate hostess ding dong looking one. They are beautiful, the box they come in is everything you want when dropping a fortune on cupcakes so for that, it's a 5 star all day. Got them home and after finishing my meal, the family dug in, taking a sample from each one. They were good but not amazing. My expectations were that the cake itself would taste more unique but hubby said a couple tasted like box cake mix. I refrigerated what was left of each cupcake and a couple of days later tried a few and I personally thought they tasted better a tad bit chilled. We didn't finish them which is crazy for our household especially since we have several cake lovers. Again, the eye appeal of the cupcakes, box and store are wonderful but in my opinion the taste was a 3 at best and pretty average. Now will I try this place again and see if other flavors fair better? Yes! Keeping my fingers crossed because clearly this place is winning in every other way. That is all! read more

This place is pretty amazing. I went there knowing they were good, but they somehow exceeded my expectations. I wanted a cupcake so my wife said we should check them out. As soon as we walked in, the staff greeted us right away. I felt welcomed, like I just walked into my best friends house. The guy there recommended that I take the ice cream tour. I wasn't there for ice cream, so I thought. I tried almost all of their homemade flavors. Other than the flavors I normally don't like, everything was awesome. After that, I told him I wanted some ice cream and a cupcake, so he suggested that I have a smash. Which is a cupcake split in half and 2 scoops of ice cream in between. I went with the chocolate cream cupcake with blue Munster cookie and birthday cake for my 2 ice cream choices. Holy moly, I wasn't ready. This is for sure something you need to split with someone as it was a little too much for me. Other than that, it was amazing. The ice cream and the cupcake were equally delicious. I work right across the street from here and couldn't wait for them to open to see what they had to offer. So today after lunch my coworkers and I decided to check them out. I was impressed how cute, clean and well decorated the place was. The staff is super friendly and if you ask they offer you a rewards card. Their cupcakes are so pretty I felt my eyes were having a party! While looking at the cupcakes I found out they have Pup Cakes since I have two dogs I had to buy them a case. The doggies loved it! They also have ice cream that you can try any flavor, my friend bought one scoop and said it was really delicious. I was tempted to buy their cupcakes for myself but I am trying to cut back on sugars during the week, so I will be back next week to finally try their cupcakes. My favorite local cupcake shop closed down a few years ago to move onto new adventures. I unfortunately have not found a replacement shop, but Smallcakes is pretty close! I have been to Smallcakes a couple of times now. My first time, I was the only one in the shop, so the gentleman was kind enough to give me the tour! Okay, I say tour, but really a description of what they sell - their ice cream process and their cupcakes (which are regulars and which change). He let me try the ice cream - I chose the red velvet, which was good, but I was there for the cupcakes! So the cupcakes that we have had on the few occasions I have gone are: *Holy Cannoli - Amazing! This cupcake is our favorite and I am glad they made the decision to make this an every day cupcake. *Red Velvet Oreo - a good standard red velvet cupcake, nothing amazing, but still a good option. *Chocolate Peanut Butter - My husband and I both loved this one, great combination and on point with the flavor *Chocolate Caramel - we didn't care for this one. The caramel icing was not strong enough - caramel wise. The gentleman did mention that they have two versions, and the caramel buttercream one is not as strong as just the caramel, so I will have to try the other version another time. *Red velvet cheesecake - I was so excited to see that they made this one!!! The cupcake shop I went to had this one - called a red velvet tuxedo, and also a chocolate tuxedo. Both cupcakes with chocolate chip cheesecake inside and cream cheese icing. They had this one down to a perfection, you knew you were biting into cheesecake that was inside a cupcake - which I loved! They didn't always have either on the menu, but you could order 4 with 24 hours notice at any time - great service and option (Maybe Smallcakes does this or would be willing to?) Okay, so back to Smallcakes' red velvet cheesecake cupcake. I was hoping this would bring back memories of my favorite cupcake. Unfortunately it failed. The red velvet and cream cheese icing were good, but if you told me it was a "cheesecake" cupcake, I would have never known. This had one small tidbit of cheesecake - maybe the size of a chocolate chip - and I am not exaggerating - you'll see with the picture. This was a huge disappointment! Smallcakes, if you could perfect this one, you would be my new favorite shop! I still highly recommend this place and will be back. Their cupcakes are all moist and have great icing/cupcake ratio. Great customer service. Also, make sure you get a stamp card for a free cupcake after you buy so many. Location is a bit awkward right now so they are easy to overlook if you don't know they're there. I think with so much growth in this area I am optimistic that will change soon and the strip mall will fill out with similar quality vendors. Similar commercial hubs nearby like Rivergate and Berewick and the Outlets are designed with a more modern and appealing aesthetic. I would think the Outlets would love to provide a good deal on monthly rent to a little shop like this that would improve their food options considerably and draw people in. read more
