    French Onion Soup

Great place to grab a bite and drinks before a show at Knight Theater next door. I'm happy I finally got to check this spot out- I came across it awhile ago, when I was still in Winston-Salem. It reminded me a lot of the Katherine, so I added it to my Wish List. came on a Tuesday, made a reservation for 4 people at 5:45pm. We were seated at a round booth with one extra seat. It's a large, sophisticated venue with nice decor. We ordered a couple cocktails for starters and then placed our entree orders. I started with the french onion soup and mussels for my main. My friends tried the chicken, duck, and beef bourguignon. I enjoyed my soup, it was warm and tasty- definitely quite heavy on the onions! For $23 though, I did expect a larger serving (not that I could have finished it, but that seams pretty steep for just a regular bowl). And the mussels were a generous portion, also served with a baguette, perfect for dipping into the leftover butter sauce. I tried my friends duck and it was very tender and tasty too. We all enjoyed our meals, although it took quite some time for the main to arrive - definitely over 25mins. Normally it wouldn't be an issue but we were just a bit pressed for time with the show. We looked at the dessert menu - a couple tempting options, will have a reason to return! Definitely upscale and pricier, but worth it for an occasion. There's 2 hour street parking and a few garages nearby. I parked in a garage because we were staying for an extended period after. @azfitfoodfun

This is a really nice upscale restaurant uptown with sucky parking. The food was great and the ambiance excellent. Service was good. Prices about right for uptown and quality of food. I had omelette with potatoes and deviled eggs with caviar. Complementary mandolins. I will come back and highly recommend if you like a bougie experience like me!

Tried La Belle Helene recently and overall it was just okay for me. The space is really beautiful -- definitely has that upscale French brasserie vibe and feels like a good spot for a nice dinner or date night. Service was polite and professional, no issues there. Food was decent but didn't really wow me. I started with the French onion soup, which was solid and comforting, just not super memorable. For my entrée, I had the burger and fries. It was cooked fine and the flavors were good, but for the price and the setting, I expected something a little more impressive. Not a bad experience by any means, just didn't quite live up to the expectations. I'd probably come back for drinks or to try a different dish, but it's not at the top of my list in Charlotte.

I started off with a mimosa, and before the food even arrived, I was blown away by the little pallet cookies placed on the table. They tasted like sweet shortbread and were such a charming touch. We ordered a little bit of everything to share, and my absolute favorite was the Le Steak Burger cooked to perfection and incredibly flavorful. The baked oysters were also delicious, and the Banana Foster French Toast was rich, comforting, and perfectly sweet. Overall, a fantastic brunch experience. I'd happily come back again!

The Omelettes were cooked professionally and real french style. Every Omelette was enough for two people. Ambience is calm and classic. The service was really good providing sweets with your coffee. It took some time for our food to be delivered as we were 6 people. If you are in town and look for a decent place to have a brunch, I would recommend the place.

I do not know why it had taken me so long to have lunch here when I have worked Uptown for a long time. The decor here is stunning and I found that the atmosphere was better for a lunch meeting than other restaurants I normally go to. It's quieter and less crowded because it's a more spacious. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive so I have no complaints. We were able to make it back to the office without having to rush. I had a salad and my friend had a sandwich. We also shared deviled eggs. All were delicious. Overall, I would definitely go back here for lunch and maybe even have team lunch here.

Had a great dinner at La Belle Helene! We were a large group and they seated us in a semi private space with a window to the kitchen. The restaurant is huge but has good acoustics and a warm atmosphere. Service was quick and the servers were friendly - I am always sympathetic when I'm in a large group but they held their own. I had the duck confit for dinner and I'm SO glad I chose it. The skin was perfectly crispy and the meat was cooked to perfection. The reduction at the bottom was flavorful and the perfect amount of salty. And I'm a huge leek lover so it was my dream to eat about two cups of leeks.

Stopped here for lunch after visiting the Mint Museum and the service was absolutely amazing!! Our server, Emanuel, was so welcoming, friendly, and helpful. My friend and I were trying to decide between the chicken salad sandwich and the French onion soup and he suggested that we split both items; the kitchen plated half the sandwich and fries on each plate and gave us each a wonderful cup of soup. Wow, wonderful service! The sandwich was thick and delicious and the soup was the real thing... amazing flavor!! The restaurant itself is a treat to behold. Such a great atmosphere with lots of attention to detail. And you have to check out the unisex bathroom, too, if you go; so inviting!!

Went for Mother's Day brunch and had a wonderful experience! It was an all you can eat brunch buffet with service. The options for the buffet were endless - one of the largest and classiest buffets I have ever been too. Highly recommend for one of their holiday brunches or a special occasion!!!

Food: was fine, but nothing spectacular. For the price charged I had much higher expectations and they fell short. The french onion soup is a steep $22! The croissant is $8 and you can find better at Lidl. The burger was overcooked and dry. Service: slow, food arrived in different times, order wasn't accurate. Ambience: it is nice, has that French Brasserie vibe, but definitely not brasserie prices. Very chic but doesn't match the food and service.

Loved the atmosphere, the place is just gorgeous located in the heart of uptown Charlotte and perfect for date night, a dinner with friends or for a company dinner since they have some private rooms available. The service was great and attentive. The food was delicious. I am taking off one star due to the size of the portions. I think they could have been a big bitter but overall it was a great experience. The gnocchi was delicious and a great vegetarian choice and you can't go wrong with a Chocolate flavored dessert! I would definitely visit again.

Stopped in for just a small bite . Got the deviled eggs with caviar so yummy and Jay the bartender was super friendly . Definitely will come back when I'm in charlotte again .

A beautifully decorated upscale French restaurant in the heart of uptown. This is a great spot with a wide range of traditional and modern French cuisine. Slightly pricey, but worth it. Fabulous cocktails, wine and beer to go with your meal. Whether you're celebrating, looking for a fancy date night or an afterwork dinner, la belle helene is worth checking out. I've been a few times now and each time I am continuously impressed.

Not having to deal with parking, traffic, or circling for a space is a luxury -- and being able to walk off dinner and dessert afterward might be the best part of all. I'm a total Francophile when it comes to French cuisine. From seafood towers to escargot, tartare, pâté, bone marrow, and soufflés -- you name it, I'm all in. And this restaurant does not disappoint. My very first visit was just for pastries, and I was blown away by how beautiful the restaurant is. It truly gives off all the vibes of Paris. If you haven't been, put it on your list -- and plan to eat your way through the city. This place captures that spirit beautifully right here in Charlotte. I've been here several times now and realized I failed to write a review earlier, so this is me catching up. I've worked my way through a good portion of the menu, and there are some clear standouts: * The Brussels (lardon) salad is outstanding -- rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced * The escargot in puff pastry is decadent and absolutely delicious * The mussels are consistently exquisite * The charcuterie and pâté selections are ideal for sharing * And the chicken confit -- oh my goodness -- sprinkled with flaky sea salt, shatteringly crisp on the outside, incredibly succulent on the inside. It's truly to die for. Don't be surprised if guests at the table start fighting over the last piece. One thing I especially appreciate is the value, even though the menu can appear pricey at first glance. This is a restaurant that really shines when you dine with a group. Sharing dishes family-style allows everyone to experience more of the menu without being stuck with just one entrée -- and without leaving with a mountain of leftovers. There's no fee for splitting dishes, and the staff are more than happy to accommodate sharing, which makes the experience feel welcoming and relaxed. That's exactly how I love to dine -- passing plates, tasting everything, and enjoying the meal together. The cocktail program is strong, and they have a full bar, plus an impressive dessert and espresso selection. The patisserie in the morning is a gem, and having a dedicated pastry chef really shows in the quality of the desserts. Favorites so far: * Apple Tarte Tatin * Crème brûlée * Canelés * And their birthday presentation -- a small plate with a candle -- is a lovely touch that makes celebrations feel special The restaurant itself is gorgeous, the waitstaff are knowledgeable and professional, and the service has been consistently excellent. I also appreciate the large outdoor patio -- I love dining al fresco, and the atmosphere here makes it easy to linger. Bottom line: This is one of my favorite restaurants in Charlotte. It's consistent, beautiful, and delivers a true French dining experience without pretense. Knock on wood, I've never had a bad meal here. Be curious about food. The food: we were served salads and focaccia to start. The side salad was nice, and I enjoyed the creamy vinaigrette and fresh vegetables. The focaccia was warm and beautifully salted. We were also given cheese platters, and I enjoyed the addition of honeycomb on the platter. I opted for the filet mignon, medium rare, with polenta and roasted carrots. The filet was served medium well, and even with the Stilton crust it was flavorless and desperately needed some salt. The thyme polenta was also missing the thyme, and even more desperately needed salt and just any sort of flavor. An unflavored polenta can taste like boiled water and I found that to be the case with theirs. The carrots tasted lovely with the Madeira Demi glace, but were unfortunately raw. I opted for the banana cheesecake for dessert, and while it wasn't my favorite, I think it was executed nicely. I also tried someone else's coffee ice cream which they pair with beignets, and thoroughly enjoyed that. All in all, a disappointing food experience. For a $62 steak, they missed the mark.

I was totally prepared to pay for both glasses, but my server was super kind and noticed that I ignored the first glass and ended up taking it off my bill which was very kind and I appreciated a lot (it's what made me want to come back). My sis and I also ordered some cheese and charcuterie, which was yummy, but I'll admit they could use adding some jam and mustard (maybe a fruit) to the board to make it a little less dry. We still ate most of it though! Ambiance was really nice as they weren't super packed when we went. It was fairly quiet people wise, though they do play their 90s r&b a bit loud. Our server the entire time was also really great. Very kind, attentive, and again I super appreciated that he saw that I wasn't a fan of my first wine.
