Valani's is a must if you're in the mood for something sweet. Tried the Italian crème cake and a strawberry cream horn. The Italian crème cake was an easy 10/10, super rich, moist, and decadent without being overwhelming. You can tell it's done right. The strawberry cream horn was also really good. The strawberry flavor itself was pretty subtle, but the crème was light and airy, and the pastry shell had a great crisp to it. They have a small outdoor seating area, which is nice, because the inside is very... cozy. Staff is friendly and helped us choose these great desserts Also had their tiramisu here in the past and it was delicious. Overall, really solid bakery. Wow... this place is legit! If you want excellent quality, Italian baked goods, you have to come here. Everything not only looked great, but tasted amazing as well! It was difficult to decide what to get. They had so many options, but everything held up to the highest standard and quality. Great Italian bakery in Charlotte. They have lots of great pastries, cakes, etc. here you could really get a nice variety of items. Cute, nice sized bakery with busy staff. I do wish they would carry more holiday specialties like struffoli ( honey balls) around Christmas, but if I am ambitious I make them myself. They do have cake by the slice, too. We tried cheesecake and croissant... and the picture attached is the croissant... croissants are supposed to be lightly layered that is supposed to be light and crisp. The staff were all super super friendly, but the baked goods just didn't do it for me! I just moved here from California and we have a lot of good bakeries, so I was really looking forward to trying this place. It has a lot of people coming in and out which seemed like a good sign as it was super popular. I tried a brownie which had a good texture, but the flavor wasn't there for me, a s'mores bar which was okay but nothing amazing, and a macaron which didn't taste like anything at all and seemed stale. My friend got some lobster tails and said they were overdone and had very little cream, however mentioned 2 years ago when she went the were really good. It's not a place I would go back, but it looks like a lot of people enjoy it so there may not be many other bakery options locally! read more

I've been a few times already and definitely have my favorites and not so favs: - macaroons: there's so many flavors but my favorite so far are lemon, lavender, and blueberry. The tastes are a bit more subtle and not overly sweet. Only wish macaroons were larger - ugh I finish one in two bites, sadly. - Red velvet cake: finding a good red velvet cake can be more difficult than it should be. But Villani's did a great job on theirs. It's sweet, moist, and so tasty! - Chocolate croissants: good, nothing mind blowing here. - Chocolate chip cookie: this was so disappointing as they look great! They are large but sooooo dry! I've had this bakery's key lime pie before, and it was a normal, traditional key lime pie with a proper custard filling. What I received this time was completely different. This pie was almost entirely whipped cream, with little to no actual key lime filling. It looked nothing like the pie shown on their Instagram (which shows a full custard-style filling with no whipped topping) and nothing like what I've previously purchased from them. This wasn't a small change or variation -- it was an entirely different product. If the recipe has changed or this is now meant to be a whipped or mousse-style pie, that needs to be clearly disclosed. As it stands, this felt misleading and extremely disappointing. read more

Super fun little bakery. The spot was busy but the line went fast. They had many options, next time I want to try their cheesecakes. I got a latte which was pretty good and a cinnamon roll. Just happened to find this place while I was in the area and it was sooooo good. I knew it would be good based on how long the line was (be prepared) but still worth the wait nonetheless. I highly recommend getting any of the croissants, especially the chocolate and pistachio. I tried the mint chocolate chip cheesecake and it was the best dessert I've had in a long time. This is a tricky one. I'll start by saying the staff are friendly and welcoming. The space itself is smaller but enough for a grab and go. But of course we're here for the backed goods. If I would have came and grabbed cake and left, absolutely 5 star. The carrot cake was moist and utterly delicious. Not super sweet and worth the visit. But then there's the bacon cheddar biscuit and the cookie. While I think the biscuit has potential and I appreciate them warming it up it fell flat. You should think the bacon would add a good amount of salt but it doesn't. This biscuit absolutely needs some salted butter or something to wake it up. With out added salt it's very meh and not something I'd order again. Next is the oatmeal raisin cookie. While visually it looks like a great cookie it's extremely crunchy and not a chewy cookie at all. It reminds me of those iced oatmeal cookies that come in the pack at Walmart/dollar store with the 4 rows. The ones we ate as kids. So maybe they are going for nostalgia with these but it's not a cookie of order again being so crunchy. Hang came and just got the cake ? 5 stars! And the cake even carried this review to 3 stars because 2 ehh products out of 3 would have easily been 2 star review. The cake is delicious but proceed with caution else where. The chocolate chip cheesecake was okay (I wanted a Turtle Cheesecake and a Key Lime Cheesecake - according to their website they had). The service was friendly, but weirdly slow, seeing as there were like 5 employees there that I saw and if you count me, only 2 customers waiting. The building isn't that big so it was weird that it took that long to get the two slices I asked for, that were right there in the glass next to me. But that really isn't the issue I actually have with this place. Like many other places in this city. NOBODY ANSWERS THE PHONE! Their website states they have this huge variety available. The problem is... they evidently sell out of things during the day. So you don't know what is available until you speak with someone. That is a pretty big issue for me, because I don't live close. So a person has to drive there and hope what they wanted is available, which is ridiculous with these gas prices. Why have on the website to "Call Us" but then never answer the phone?! The butter and almond are both yummy and very easy to heat up leftover at home in the oven wrapped in foil. Recently tried Villani's after hearing so many great things. The croissants are really big and you can smell the butter in them, but I was disappointed that they were dense instead of light and flaky. (The croissants at Whole Foods are better IMO) The chocolate cake was also just ok, but if you heat it up for 10 seconds it's better. They share a gravel parking lot with Cheat's so it can be hard to find a parking spot if you go at peak times. read more

Villani's Bakery is a little bakery that's open a little later than most bakeries in the area. It's easily accessible and has it's own parking lot connected to the bakery. They have A LOT of options. From cakes, cookies, and all kind of baked bars. The people working there, seem very nice! For me, that was the best thing about my experience. I tried it one night around 8pm and there wasn't one thing I ordered that was good. EVERYTHING unfortunately was dry or tasteless. I was very disappointed, especially considering the reviews. I'm hoping that maybe i just went too close to closing and that earlier in the day, gives better results. I'm hoping that my experience was a rarity, or it will make think the reviews are lies or they don't know good baked goods. We shall see, I'll give it another try. My 3 stars, are purely for there being a large selection and for the really nice girls that were working in there. read more

I hate to be writing this review, but after three disappointing experiences in a row, I feel it's necessary. I used to absolutely love this place. I don't eat sweets often, so when I do, it has to be worth it--and this was always my go-to when I wanted a treat. Unfortunately, the last few visits have not been good. I ordered cheesecake that honestly tasted like there was no sugar in it at all--completely bland. Another time, I got a lobster tail and the dough was raw and undercooked, with barely any cream inside. I decided to give it one last try and ordered tiramisu yesterday. While the flavor was good, the cake part was extremely dry, which I think would be hard to do with espresso soaked ladyfingers. I'm really disappointed because this used to be a place I loved, but sadly, I won't be returning. read more

Sorry to report: this bakery SUCKS- given my 40 years of being a cake lover. For me customer service speaks volumes about a business and kindness is the main ingredient in every successful business story. Which was missing from my order sadly. I ordered a cake, paid for the cake, gave the cake for a gift and it was MUSHY, HALF BAKED, TASTELESS- and somehow my fault. I called in to let the bakery know about the cake and was not initially requesting a refund. I never got many words in because the owner( proud New Yorker-not!) came out swinging- no good morning or how may I help you at all; just right out accusing me of mishandling the cake. Evidently, it was made with a special buttercream icing that I was not made aware of and the cake melted according to the owner, the cake was not melted, in fact was cool and a solid MUSH MESS when it was sliced the evening after( Saturday night) pick up. I am leaving this review for the like minded person reading this that support family owned businesses because like me - you believe in the mission- WELP.... go elsewhere OR support Suarez bakery in Park Road shopping center. I couldn't decide between a slice of peanut butter chocolate cake or tiramisu so I got both and it was totally worth the sugar rush! The cake was freshly made and chilled to perfection. As a former NY'er who knows good pastries - Villanis comes up short in every way. This is not the place you come for your holiday baked goods. I ordered 6 lobster tails- all over done and too crispy and burnt on edges. 6 cannolis- cream wasn't anything to rave about but shell was good with a nice amount of chocolate chips. I didn't want to order a $50 1/4 sheet of napoleon but that was the minimum (I get it's a holiday so ok)... well it was very poorly made an not cooked well at all. The layers weren't flaky and thin instead they were thick and chewy, hard to cut slices. And they didn't put enough icing on top so it didn't fit over the entire cake. Very sloppy and poorly done for every item we got. And the best is they make you wait in the same long line for items you preordered. Needs to be more efficient in that department for customers and your staff! Separate lines for pre orders and drop in would make it go smoothly and quick for all. Even though this is the only option for Italian pastries - we won't be back. Way overpriced for disappointing products. read more

I've come here several times and I absolutely love the butter cookies, biscotti, canestrelli, and S cookies. But as a lover of macarons and a baker myself I'd really suggest focusing on quality of quantity. I've stopped buying the macarons due to price and quality control, even during the morning my macaron was crunchy and thick, a far cry from even feet with a soft and chewy inside with a crisp shell. Id suggest maybe lowering the selections to 4 with a rotating flavor e.g. chocolate, vanilla, pistachio, coffee, and then whatever seasonal flavor you think will do well.
