A good clean addition in the crowded grocery scene in Natomas. It replaced the Big Lots location on Northgate. Rough area but no one has ever bothered me there. Clean and fairly new. Large aisles. Some good bulk buys but even the sale ads are ok pricing. I will come here if ad prices warrant it. I like Foodsco and FoodMaxx. Good buys are rice sacks, eggs when on sale and shredded 5 lb cheese bags. Onions and potatoes if you want a 20-40 lbs! Beer section has a pretty good craft beer selection. Produce is clean and not old and wilted or nasty. High and low pricing on produce. Meat quality looks good but I haven't bought much here. All in all, a nice clean store for groceries and bulk like Costco when you don't want the craziness of lines and people at a Costco. read more

I have been a fan of smart and final stores for eons. When this particular location opened up several years ago on Northgate Boulevard, I was excited to have one in the south Natomas area. It meant not having to travel to other parts of town to find some of the items that only they seem to carry. Unfortunately, for a store that is a pretty decent size, they don't seem to stock many of the items that the other stores carry, and when they do, it's pretty minimal. The fresh produce section always seems to look mangled, and completely in disarray no matter the time of day that I've gone in to shop. The refrigerated section continually carries, or start with, refrigerated items that are either a day away from expiring, or have already expired, or look like they were left out and just put back into the refrigerated section in hopes of someone buying them. When I have asked someone if they have more items stored on the other side of the refrigeration unit, I've always been told no. I understand not having backstock for a store that should keep it stock all out on the floor. Customer Service has always been iffy at best, and it makes it frustrating when trying to find something that they may or may not have, or could possibly be out of. I've tried calling and asking what I'm looking for something specific, as well as, going into the store. Both instances are always handled the same way by store employees. I was left on hold for almost 15 minutes when I called, and walking through the store and trying to find someone seem to be fairly impossible. I ended up going to the cashier to ask for help and still was made to wait for an unusually long period of time just to have someone answer a question for me. I understand why the big box stores have been able to take over. They seemed to offer a larger variety, and Customer Service in addition to everything else. I was hoping that smart and final would be able to step up to the plate and offer the same. With the holidays right around the corner, it definitely is an easy go to if you can't make it to some of the other stores that carry larger containers etc. that you may be looking for to make your holiday prep time easier. Store #404, Madison Ave, Sacramento I'm a grown woman, 53 years old, and I have an electric scooter that I paid over $1,000 for. I take it everywhere, into multiple stores, and no one ever gives me a hard time. It's smaller than a shopping cart, and I stack my groceries on the platform as I shop. It is my only transportation. This store is located in a very bad location, with a homeless encampment in the parking lot. I was blocked by an employee as I was approaching the registers with my groceries, and he made me give him my groceries, and he kicked me out of the store. It was unnecessary, it was embarrassing, and the tone he took with me was infuriating. Again, 53 year old woman, nicely dressed, minding my own, just about to pay and leave, and he talked to me and treated me like I was some punk kid riding my bike around the store. Took my groceries and kicked me out. I will not go back there, as there are literally dozens of other stores that don't treat me like a child, and will allow me to shop using my scooter, so I don't have to leave it outside so anyone with a bolt cutter can take off with my only form of transportation. read more

This review is for the employees. It's my first time at this location and I loved how they have so many items in stock unfortunately it's a little messy and unorganized. I was able to find a few items I needed and unfortunately I wasn't able to find corn syrup after pushing a cart of 150 pounds of sugar up and down every aisle I was not able to find corn syrup nor an employee that was on the floor. I had to wait in line to ask the cashier to help me she went to the back to get her manager five minutes later she comes back to inform you that I'm gonna have to wait for the manager to finish up some stuff that she's doing because unfortunately it's only her and another young man that are working and they both have to stay at the registers. The store has over 75 people in there and only two people working ? And the manager is in the back . ?!? The cashier was nice enough to help me look and she also couldn't find the syrup, she then shares that she is new and wouldn't know if they have it any other isle or in the back. Smart & Final opened over a year ago and it is still a fairly new and clean store. Parking lot has plenty of space, customer service is ok hit or miss depending on who you ask. The store has some big size products available, i like them for togo style containers, you can by one sleeve of something or a big box if needed for a better deal. Just depends on how much you need, or want. They do have a few items that theybalwaysbhave in stock since they opened thats hard to find at other local grocery stores and big box mart stores. 1. TAB SODA - i looked high and low far and in between for this for a throwback/rememberence for my grandma who passed , but loved this soda in the 80's. 2. McCain Smiley fries, my kids love em and ao do we. Who doesn't love a smile? Plus yiu can get them toasted and they srill have that pillowy mash texture on the inside and then dip that smiley in your favorite dip (ketchup for me,it's a french still) then you smile on your after you eat them. =) 3. BOSTON BAKED BEANS candy. They have the big bins of candy that you can self serve on. The boston baked beans are bashtinnnn good. That cruncy coated red candy on the outside with the peanut on the inside. They also have some exotic flavored and regular flavored gummys too. Amongst many other candy/oats/chocolate things available as well. They do have a big produce section and some meats, but they don't have a bakery or deli/meat servers at this location. Not sure if any smart & finals do. They do for what ever reason scan the shopping cart for your reciept, but your not charged for the use or even a deposit for it. I have heard some groceries stores charge you a deposit till you bring it back after you unload your groceries in your vehicle. Think they told me a long time ago they do it for usage, and inventory reasons. Overall I use them for certain things, not my everyday store, but they do have some pretty good deals in thier flyer occasionally, and a few items i cant find anywhere else easily. So they get a round up to 4 stars for carrying some of my favorites, that many stores have stopped! read more

I needed to use the restroom ( mind you I'm a diabetic ), very disappointed that I was told; RESTROOM WAS FOR STAFFS ONLY; How is that possible, Smart & Final has no restroom for CUSTOMERS, I think this needs to be looked into, or maybe it's the Manager's rule but please I don't wanna take my business elsewhere cause I like this store. My boyfriend moved in the area a few months ago and we finally found our way here a few days ago! The store is huge and has great selections for every aisle: their produce was stocked and fresh. I didn't see any rotten veggies or fruit. They've got an extensive selection of ice cream and frozen foods. My favorite thing about this location is their cleanliness and their product availability. I was able to find everything I needed quickly. We bought a jumbo rotisserie chicken for $5 too. When we got home the chicken was hot and juicy. We'll be back to do our weekly grocery shopping! read more

Wish I could give this store 0 stars. I shop here all the time where I spend at least $500.00 each time I am there. This time I was having some issues with my company credit card where the chip was not working. The Card Service Agency said where if I want to use the card they would have to manually enter the card number. I called smart & Final and asked to speak with a manger. After a brief hold I explained my situation and asked if if they had the capability of manually entering my card number if I provided the proper I'd. The little lazy ass manger said "No"! We can not do that. I just hung up and took my business elsewhere where I was treated with respect and this store was more than willing to assist with my needs. Good job Smart & Final... I have mixed feelings about this store. It's way better to go here than Foods Co but employees are still not all nice, some are actually rude. Also, ALWAYS watch your check-the price that shows at the isle might not be a correct price that rings up at the register. I had to take pictures to actually prove the price difference. I like this store but seriously, don't deceive people with your prices. Also even if on the receipt the price rings up wrong, most likely people won't go back to get their money back. I shop at smart and final a lot. This is the worst one I ever been to! Today (Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019), as usual I had a full cart, the cashier name Stanley refused to bag my groceries, he kept running his mouse saying oh my God this is too much for me, I need someone to bag them cause I'm not going to bag them and he making gestures like he's had it or something, I asked him nicely if he can call someone to help bagging, as I have already bagged some myself, and he said I called Suki to come and bag but she's no where to be found and then he kept asking me to go get her (Suki) tell her to get over here now, I said I don't even know who she is and i asked him nicely if he can just keep on ringing the groceries as I am the customer already is helping to bag my own groceries, he just scan some items and stop San some more items and stop again and kept saying this is too much I'm getting to have a headache, I asked if he can call a manager over to help him but he said several times to me that the manager is having a meeting right now with "Trump", then Suki (an Asian girl like me)comes, this Stanley guy shouted at her and said where have you been? I am getting to be very angry right now, just heuuynup get all the groceries out of his face and get them out of here! I have never seen any grocery store cashier it's this kind of an attitude, I bagged 7 bags of my own groceries and Suki helped bag 2 with a total of 9 grocerie bags is not an outrageously amount of groceries , it is his job to bag groceries and if he can't handle customers with some amount of groceries then he should not be working there! he's definitely a racist against Asian that's why he's got this attitude toward me(the customer) and Suki the grocery store helper and not other white Americans! Its really nice to have this type of store in the area. You can stock up on a lot of bulk items and if you review their mailers you can find pretty good deals on other stuff as well. This isnt neccessarily the store you do your "big shopping" at but if you know what to look for you can save money. I've come to learn that if you need a cart, grab it from the parking lot because they are rarely available in front of the store. The service is friendly and the workers are eager to help you if needed. Its been a great addition to the area. read more

I love Smart & Final for the great deals on frozen pre-packaged chicken, but this location is probably the nicest I have ever been in. I've been to Smart & Final in Citrus Heights (or maybe that's Rancho? It's right by Sunrise and 50), two other locations in Sacramento, one in San Francisco , but THIS ONE is the roomiest, has the friendliest employees (no matter who is cashier, all of them have been friendly), easy to find food and seems always well stocked. The ice cream section here is MASSIVE. Some great deals can be had at the discounted section that is in the far back RIGHT corner of the store (literally in the far, far back right corner, there's a rack that has sale/markdown items), so be sure to check that section out each time before you leave the store. Compared to the other grocery stores in the area (and even other Smart & FInal locations) I would come back to this one, again and again. read more

So, call this store asking to see if they have a certain laundry soap they put me on hold I waited on hold for over five minutes they told me they had it and they gave me the prices difference for the soap with downy and then without. I then drove there five minutes after our conversation and there was no product to be found they all ran around like tweedle Dee and tweedle dumb and yet there was no product how can this happen you have to do better then that your customer service is lacking horribly!!!!! The Smart & Final in South Natomas-Northgate area in Sacramento is the most consistantly helpful, well stocked,clean Smart & Final in the Sacramento region. I have been to various Smart & Final Local locations to pick items for work, home, parties, a family business, ect.Why four stars? It's the location that is the disappointment. The environment especially in the parking lot is unsafe. Unfortunately I have witnessed people stealing food from the store and the workers were able to retrieve the items as well as at the South Natomas-Northgate location. To attract addtional clientele and before Costco opens a location Smart & Final should consider having a location in North Natomas. Tip: Go before sun down and be aware of your surroundings. Sadly sometimes there has been individuals asking for money that are better dressed than I am at the store. read more

Smart & Final is usually the place I go if I don't really need to go to Costco, but need a slightly bigger bulk in things than the normal size --and for a good price. Commonly, I'd buy fruits and veggies from a typical grocery store or weekend farmers market, but if its something for a class room treat, kids sports team after game snack, or party I'm hosting I tend to drift over to Smart & Final. I was in search of Strawberries/Black Berries and Donut Holes to make fruit kabobs for a bridal shower (brunch theme). An easy trip to Smart & Final 8AM in the morning.
