Just went to Smart n Final and I cant believe how the prices went up since the coronavirus impacted the world. They're prices have doubled on most items. To take advantage of people with these pricing is just horrible. People are losing they're jobs. I will never ever shop there again and I hope everyone else follows. Smart and Final you guys suck. We have been going to Smart and Final for sometime now. We have found the prices here are very reasonable and with our budget, we can not afford to just spend like there is no tomorrow. This store has most of everything you will use, including items at Safeway, Lucky's and Costco. The in store items are just as good if not better in some cases. This is a grocery store, nice big car park. If your looking for soda, this is your nirvana They also sell fruits, vegetables, canned goods.. If your looking for carrots, they have huge bags! No reward cards needed and no membership dues, just good prices. I only came here to browse bought a 10lb bag of carrots that lasted a long while! Service was OK. Prices are very reasonable, its a little out of the way for me to do weekly shopping here. But its worth stopping in if your buying items for a large party or get together and need to bulk up on produce or soda. 4 stars read more

I am a regular at this place and they have a great selection of everything, but there are some things I can't deal with. Now I am not unreasonable and I don't leave one stars often without good reason but, enough is enough with this place. Here is the issue and I hope management will read this and discuss this with their employees. Every time I purchase alcohol here they give me a plethora of problems. There is this one lady (if I remember correctly she has a tattoo on her forearm) and every time I buy alcohol she quizzes me on my I.D?? Every time! In fact the first time I bought alcohol from her she asked "is this really your I.D?" Really? Keep in mind I am not some stranger who looks suspicious. I do not look young I am in my late twenties and I have never had problems with purchasing alcohol from anywhere! I AM A REGULAR CUSTOMER HERE TOO?!?. I am dressed casual and sometimes even in a suit when I get off work. I have seen this employee so many times yet she insists on asking me my date of birth! I finally called her out and said " I come here all the time it's getting a little old quizzing me." Then she responds "I do it with everybody I'm just giving you a hard time." Really? So you like giving your loyal paying customers a hard time. Now tonight I walk in with my girlfriend and we pick up two small bottles of wine, a six pack, and one tall premium ale. I noticed the lady wasn't there and was relieved I wouldn't have to get harassed by that employee. I get up and the lady (lady with a frohawk and a nose piercing) says "I know both of you are going to walk out with this alcohol so I need to see both your I.Ds" this was before she even finished checking out the customers in front of us!! Thats rude not only to us but the customers in front of us too! I have never had anyone ask for my girlfriend's I.D when I buy alcohol. So we show her our I.Ds and my girlfriends I.D was in her wallet so she shows her and she says " Can you show the camera your I.D." and points up. So my girlfriend puts her wallet up in the middle of the air towards the camera. What is wrong with this place? Then to top it off she ask " what is your year of birth again?" Really?!? I asked her why this place was so strict with I.Ds and she gave me attitude. This is my last straw. I do not mind showing my I.D when buying alcohol in fact I always have it out ready even if a store doesn't ask for it. I buy alcohol everywhere in the bay area. 7-11, Sprouts, Safeway, Zannatos, Costco, liquor stores, Bevmo, and every other store in the bay area and I have never had anyone ask for my girlfriends I.D, never have been quizzed on my I.D (let alone numerous times with the same people), and have never had to deal with such nonsense. Its a shame cause not everyone who works there is bad and they have a great selection on a lot of items. The short lady who works at the ten items or less is a sweetheart!! But I am too offended to give my loyalty and business to this store. read more

Good grocery store in the neighborhood, fresh produces but service is so slow and most of the time long line. The cashier she never smile and also take her time even though the line is crazy, sometime they were talking to each other while ringing you up Like you've never exist. I called once to check if they have something I was looking for since I've been there twice in 3 days, and guess what they put me on hold for Frkn 26 mins. Wtf!!!? I cant believe what happen to me at this store. It was my 1st & my last experience at this location Monday Aug 26th @4pm. I was at the check out, and the girl asked me for a 5 digit code for the apricots that I had bagged from the bin? I HAD NO IDEA WHAT SHE MEANT so I asked her what code was she talking about? She was instantly irritated by the tone of her voice as she told me there's signs all over telling me to bring a code to check out. I explained I was sorry, that I didn't see the signs & I didn't have the code. She then told me, "if I don't have the code I will have to throw these away?" There was a really long line behind me, so I asked the girl, do you really want me to leave the line to get the code? and rudely she said, "ill just throw them away!" and she threw them in the trash can! I was shocked & blown away! I wanted them & just wanted to confirm she expected me to leave the line to go get the code. I never should have been given so much attitude over apricots! I was apologetic & expressed I hadn't been to that store & was unaware I was to provide a code, it wasn't like I expressed an attitude. I'm very disappointed in the way I was treated. She was young, curly hair, I think she had braces, if your reading this review, you'll remember me & I hope you feel bad for the rude way you treated me. I even had a father & daughter approach me in the parking lot saying, "you handled that well" because I really should of went off on you! If you don't like the public you shouldn't have a job that requires customer service. This was my first time in there. Oh my God! Everything is definitely cheaper than safeway. It is not as fancy, but clean and well stocked .They had a special today of chicken breasts for $.59 a pound. Unbelievable! Their eggs, produce, yogurt, canned goods, milk, and more are name brands and definitely a lot less money. I understand a lot of people say there aren't enough checkers, but I went about nine in the morning and it was great. I highly recommend this store-their employees are nice and helpful and if you go in the morning it's not bad at all. read more

So i worked hete 3 years ago. I had to leave on a family emergency i gave my notice to the manager . But now that i was back and i filled out for a job and got hired back was all set to go in and do the orientation all of a sudden i get a phone call and he says i have to stop the process . Umm what i am hired already . He says hr says they dont have anything saying you left and that you just quit. He gave me the number to hr i left 2 messages but she never called me back. Even though her voice mail says i will call you back. I think that it is wrong to have already hired me. I have a copy of my letter but who do i give it too. This Smart & Final is hit and miss. Came to this location a few times as I noticed there was a few things I wanted from their advertisement. They didn't even have them in stock. They have several bulk bins which I'll never buy from since I can't tell you how many people I saw sticking their hands in there and nibbling away...disgusting!!! The parking lot is small and you have to be careful for runaway carts. This place isn't at all ideal for complete grocery shopping. I've been here several times, but I think this last time was enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth permanently. read more

We bought a bag of whole bean Starbucks coffee and when we opened it, we noticed the beans looked a little stale. We brewed a pot and agreed it wasn't the usual good cup of French Roast. We checked the expiration date and sure enough, the day was March 22, 2018 and this was already the end ofMay. We took it back, they gave us a new bag... all is good. BUT THEN.....just this week we were shopping and needed a bag of coffee. My husband grabs the first bag of French Roast and starts to put it in the cart and stops and looks at me. He says " this bag isn't full...it's open...hey wait..." Sure enough it was the opened, used, expired bag we had returned weeks earlier. It had been re-shelved! Bad enough it was expired, but also now opened! SO..I took the bag to a manager, told her it was open, and expired and on the shelf. Not a lot of response until I said " and guess what else...we returned it weeks ago..." She was less than astonished, very little reaction, I explained how bad this was and she really didn't respond with the kind of response that good customer service should display. I suggested that this was the kind of practice that would make me stop shopping there. She knew it had been returned, she was the one that took it from my husband when he returned it. I just expect more from the stores that are selling me food. read more

Wow, when did they remodel this place? I came here to get some non-perishable items for my group picnic. Was very surprised that the produce section had expanded....like huge, and their meat section as well. The prices here are definitely cheaper than Safeway. Some of the rudest employees maybe they don't care bc they r not unionized ... had a terrible experience with cashier named Nancy. She has to learn that the person you are helping comes before the person who is next in line. She stopped ringing to look something up so I told her that the person behind me can wait maybe for a min or two and that I needed her to finish with me so I could be on my way. The look she gave me could kill. She did finish my transaction and did so without saying a word to me ... just an angry stare. I give it two stars bc I think the deals are good especially the manager sales. My only other peeve is I don't understand why they haven't figured out when to have extra cashiers available .. the long lines can be awful ...I have had to walk in and out just because of time. read more

They just did a re-org of meats. Why can they not figure out the registers and check outs. ALWAYS a long line in registers. I usually only go here for some basics. I do not like their meats. Veggies are ok. Milk, seasonings, bread are ok. I hate the long lines and delays at registers, so Safeway gets most of my basics now. read more

Sometimes the pricing is off. For example, I purchased Crunch ice cream bars on Friday, September 21, 2018 at $3.99 and on the next day, I was charged $4.99, so I stood firm and said that their price sign read $3.99, but they did honor it and the sales clerk went over and changed the sign to $4.99 as I walked over with her to show the correct price. So beware of their pricing. In other instances, their organic lettuce sign read 99 cents but the charge was 1.49. I caught that at the register. The store on Fletcher Parkway(2800)doesn't have accurate pricing on their registers. read more

I really like Smart and Final. I go to this location often. Only problem is that they often are short staffed of cashiers. Sometimes the lines are so long that I put my stuff back on the shelves and leave because I can't wait 15 minutes to check out. I don't blame the cashiers as much as the managers who need to staff and hire adequately. I wish they would address this issue more consistently but otherwise I like the store a lot. read more

I cannot believe the checker actually served the two people behind be in line rather than me. When I asked for the manager, she supported his actions. I have a hurt back and standing long enough to check out not only is very difficult for me, but it risks a huge setback. I explained this to the customers behind me who were two men with only one item each. MY TIME IS JUST AS VALUABLE AS THEIRS, and just because I was there getting food to feed my family I should not have had to wait for the men. I am sick and tired of this discrimination. So I started coming to this location for my restaurant for things I forgot to buy or ran out of a few years ago. After I came in and saw the store I fell in love! They have the big box store prices for meat, chicken and produce. Actually a lot of there produce is cheaper then R.D. which I was pretty shocked about. They sell by the pound or by the case if you need the quantity. The store is actually really clean for the amount of customers they serve. I come atleast twice a week sometimes way more. The store is always stocked and the items are fresh or have a great self life. They literally have anything you would need for a home or restaurant, with the best prices around town. The staff is really helpful and always friendly. Mercedes and Layla are always there on the weekend and always happy to help you find an item you might not be able to see. They have the best customer service ever! Make sure you shop Smart n final first! read more

I passed by this place for a few years until the PW Market at Meridian and Foxworthy closed about 2 years ago. I had shopped there for 20+ years and was bummed that my local, go-to store was gone. So I started using Safeway and Lunardi's more, both more expensive than the old PW. One day, I gave Smart and Final a try and I was really happy with it. They have the staples there for less money than the other local stores. It is very clean and has a pretty decent selection for day to day shopping. If you want exotic stuff, a real butcher shop, a bakery, or a deli, they do not have any of that, but the prices are excellent and the place is well stocked. For exotic stuff I go to Trader Joes or Lunardi's. For a store with virtually everything, I go to Safeway (and I pay more for everything). Normally, I'm not a big fan of "house brand" items which I generally find to be inferior. But Smart & Final's house brand, "First Street", is actually pretty decent! And for a limited, packaged-only meat department, there's a fairly good selection. The bulk packaged meats are good, too. I once bought a 16 pound sirloin roast there an cut it up into steaks. Cost me about $2 a pound and it was excellent. Froze most of it. I almost hesitate to give them a high recommendation because I'd like to keep the place to myself. But if you live in the area and have, as I and many others have, been avoiding the place for its name: don't. It's a really nice place to shop. If you search the web for its history, there were actually two founders named Smart and Final, unbelievably. The company is well over 100 years old! Its not a "close out" grocery store, like some others in the area. One last bonus, purely personal: a few of the old staff from my beloved PW Market work there now, so I get to see folks I came to know and like from my old store. I'm definitely a fan!! read more

they do have some pretty decent deals, but unfortunately there have been several instances where there are lines out the door and only 2 cashiers. To top it off there have been several instances that individuals on WIC or public assistance that are purchasing high end products wearing expensive clothing and driving vehicles that are either 2013 or 2014 model years and are purchasing product from Smart and fInal, i was unaware that they accepted low income/public assisted funds. too bad I will not be going back to the store as they have inconsistent practices and allow miscreants and illegal immigrants to purchase their products, i dont see this issue with the local 7-11 or target. read more

I shop at this Smart & Final location infrequently but each time I have been there, the quality of their products that I purchased were bad to disgusting. In separate visits to buy the Gallo Salami chubs that they carry, I bought on separate occasions, the following items....chuck roast, Hinodi Brown Rice and green grapes. When I opened the chuck roast, hidden on the underside was the rind, about 1/4" thick still left attached to the roast. Not only was it hidden from view, but it added additional weight to the product. It wasn't fat, it was hide, enough left on there that I could have cured it and made a wallet. The Hinodi brown rice was obviously old and left on the shelf way to long. The entire bag was infested with worms and molted skins. That was particular disgusting because before I looked closely at the raw rice, I had already cooked a cup and ATE It!!! The last trip, yesterday, I bought green grapes that were prominently displayed at the front of the produce section. My husband washed the grapes the same night and found that many of the grapes were starting to rot AND the bottom layer was moldy. I should turn them into the health department. If I go in again, I will do this. Not sure who the store manager is, but he/she should be more mindful of their products. Oh yes, I also bought cans of mushroom soup and the tops of the can were very dirty. Makes you wonder if they warehouse their products in Rat and roach infested warehouses. Whenever i go to Smart and Final i see my self buying twice as much as food as I do at Costco, but all for the same price or even lower.
