Half of self check out was closed, (which seems to be permanent now) so there were only three or four available, and I couldn't self check because I had more than 15 items. There were at least eight people in each of the 2 lines, waiting. There were about 4 people shopping the aisles, yet 16 in line! It's not the employees fault, there aren't enough of them! In the evening, they lock 1 door and post a security guard at the other to be sure you get the full ghetto experience. Go to Trader Joe's across the street, better prices and plenty of employees, very happy to help you! P.S. I once bought Marie Callender's frozen chicken pot pies at VONS, and they were green and moldy. If they had employees, these might have made it back to the freezer in time!

Sometimes negative reviews don't tell the full story, and from what I've seen, the team does a great job handling all kinds of situations with professionalism. I returned again last week for 2.47/lb Milanesa Steak which is a frequent sale item here. I sliced up two pieces and was able to feed my family of 3 steak teriyaki bowls for less than $5 overall. I also picked up a 2 lb bag of irregularly sized frozen shrimp for less than $8. Those two items made it worth the trip. Overall, I would recommend this as a bargain shopping destination. Over the course of the next 5 minutes she kept not just me, but the entire line on hold while she counted money and frenzied through her register area looking for something she misplaced. This type of service is just rude and unprofessional. I am not the first person to opine on her poor work ethic, through Yelp and perhaps this needs to be addressed by upper management/corporate at this point. This particular location had a relatively large selection, but they didn't have one of two items I needed. My point is, you might have better luck shopping elsewhere. The age old adage "you get what you pay for" proved true.

What made this even worse was that as I was walking away, another man came up to the door AND THE SAME SECURITY GUARD LET HIM IN. So apparently the store wasn't actually closed. He just decided who he was going to let inside. What kind of customer service is this? If you close at 11:55, POST 11:55 AS YOUR CLOSING TIME. And if you're going to refuse entry because you're "closed," then that rule should apply to everyone, not selectively depending on who walks up to the door. Absolutely ridiculous and incredibly disrespectful. WTH are you guys doing?

I am writing to express my significant concern regarding recent experiences at your Smart & Final location on Edinger and Bristol in Santa Ana. As a loyal customer who has shopped at this store for many years, I have consistently been impressed by the courteous and helpful service provided by your cashiers. However, on my last two visits, including today, Sunday, July 27, 2025, I have encountered an extremely unsatisfactory level of customer service from two new employees: a young male (named Alex) and a female cashier, who may be a manager. Their approach to customers is profoundly disappointing. They consistently fail to acknowledge customers, offer greetings, or speak a word throughout the transaction. They do not communicate the total amount or ask about bag preferences. When I requested bags from Alex, he rudely placed them on the counter, expecting me to bag my own groceries. Given that my disabled mother was present and attempting to pack items, I specifically asked Alex if he was responsible for bagging, to which he did not respond. To compound the issue, the other new cashier (who I believe is a manager) was present and offered no apology or intervention. This recent decline in service is unacceptable and has led me to decide that I will no longer be shopping at Smart & Final. I entered and turned right. 8/5/26 around 9am. I stopped short because a manager was angrily berating an employee. In the corner. Outside the office door. He insulted, then said, "and you don't even SEEM SORRY." This continued on, so long, I walked towards the cashiers and said, "a young man is getting his a$$ whooped you need to step in." I was so upset I walked the entire perimeter looking each and every employee in the eyes. They had the same sad face. They had identical eyes. Their eyes said DEFEATED. I have no connection to this store, but what is going on there is WRONG. NO EMPLOYEE SHOULD SUFFER VERBAL EMOTIONAL ABUSE PUBLICLY HUMILIATED. I stand for the immediate firing of the manager on duty. I stand for justice and kindness. You either FIRE OR REPRIMAND. But that was mafia style barbaric. He wanted that young man to beg for forgiveness. He wanted the entire staff to know it, too. Smart & Final offers a good selection of vegetables and fruits (even organic ones) with good quality and excellent prices. Proteins are also good quality and very affordable (beef, steak, chicken, etc.) Tip: The prices for liquor here are even better than the ones you'll see at Bevmo! Over and above food, this store carries many things you might need, including cleaning supplies and utensils. read more

I bought a turkey sandwich, a small size ready-to-eat chicken noodle soup and 3 cans of Olipop soda. The sodas had a sign reading "3 for $5". I paid approximately $17. As I left the store, I immediately looked at my receipt and noted they charged me full price for the sodas. I went back in and they discovered that the promotional price had expired but that the staff hadn't removed the signs yet. They refunded me the difference so I'm glad I caught the error. They then removed the promo price signs so other customers wouldn't think there was a sale like I did. I then drove to the work office to eat my lunch. I opened the sandwich and noticed it was slathered with mayo which I didn't request nor do I like. They have this form at the deli counter which you have to fill out with check boxes for bread, meat, veggies and condiments. I checked off "mustard" and hand wrote in "on both sides". I decided to drive back to the store (which was an inconvenience) and told the deli counter about the mayo. I acknowledged that "mistakes happen" and that I was a regular customer, and I'd appreciate if they would make me "whole". The deli person made me a fresh sandwich and instructed me to go to a cashier to request a refund. I did that and I was appreciative of the fact that they didn't argue, apologized for the mistake and did something corrective (i.e. I got the refund with no argument). I'm giving this a 4 out of 5 rating because while I was inconvenienced, I feel they handled my complaint in a fair and proper manner and for that I feel satisfied. I will continue to remain a customer of Sprouts. I always believed that while mistakes can and do happen in every business, what's really important is how a company handles those mistakes. If they take accountability and work with their customers to address issues, I'm inclined to continue to do business with them since they show they value the patronage.
