I visited on a Wednesday at about 11:30 am. They had 1 register open, but the girl was having a hard time changing the register tape. Half of self check out was closed, (which seems to be permanent now) so there were only three or four available, and I couldn't self check because I had more than 15 items. There were at least eight people in each of the 2 lines, waiting. There were about 4 people shopping the aisles, yet 16 in line! It's not the employees fault, there aren't enough of them! In the evening, they lock 1 door and post a security guard at the other to be sure you get the full ghetto experience. Go to Trader Joe's across the street, better prices and plenty of employees, very happy to help you! P.S. I once bought Marie Callender's frozen chicken pot pies at VONS, and they were green and moldy. If they had employees, these might have made it back to the freezer in time! read more

While waiting in line to purchase items, I observed the customer ahead of me -- a young man who appeared to be between 18 and 23 -- attempt to purchase liquor. He did not have his driver's license with him. Rather than declining the sale or requesting valid ID, Angela asked him to state his birthday, then turned to me and asked whether I believed him. I told her she needed to check his driver's license, as that is the legal requirement. She then told the young man that he (Me) had "convinced" her and asked him to go retrieve his license, at which point he left. He returned and thanked me sarcastically, clearly annoyed that I had pointed out the store's obligation. I reminded Angela that failing to verify ID before an alcohol sale could put Vons's liquor license at risk. She responded dismissively, stating she was "enforcing the law," despite not having done so. When it was my turn to check out -- my purchase also included alcohol -- Angela and the young man (who was apparently still nearby) were both visibly unprofessional toward me. Angela asked to see my driver's license, and I noted for the record that I am 54 years old. I have no explanation for why I, an uninvolved customer, was asked to vouch for a stranger's age, or why store policy would rely on a bystander's opinion rather than actual ID verification. Angela's approach effectively put me in conflict with the other customer, who then stared at and was hostile toward me. I'm submitting this complaint because this is a liquor licensing compliance issue, not simply a matter of customer service. Meh, decent store. But I do recommend they remove the Western Union sign. Because I went there five times and every time there is a different problem, whether I have to come back, they don't have enough cash in the register, and one time they made me wait 20 minutes for someone to be available to help me out. Terrible experience. Someone else mentioned it on here but the bad mood everyone is in here is off putting. It is usually fine if you go in and know what you want. But today I used the drive up and go feature to avoid it all and the associate who gave me my items, asked me where I wanted it. Basically ignored me and just handed them to me. He also gave me someone else's food so I went inside to return the two bags and he just took it from me and mumbled "Ok". Not that I wanted a thank you but cheers, Vons for defeating the entire purpose of the Drive Up and Go and somehow making me feel worse about it. I can't say enough good things about the floral department at this Vons. Honestly, this is the only reason I come into this city anymore. I used to live nearby, but after moving about 30 milee away, I still make the drive whenever I need flowers because nothing compares to what they do here. The ladies in the floral department are amazing. They're caring, kind, and incredibly talented. Every arrangement I've ordered has been beautiful and thoughtful, whether it's for my anniversary, Valentine's Day, or any special occasion. Today I came in for my two-year wedding anniversary bouquet, and once again, they created something perfect for my wife. I truly appreciate the effort and heart they put into their work. Absolutely unacceptable experience. I was at this store with my autistic child when a security guard aggressively yelled at us and kicked us out. There was zero effort to understand the situation, no professionalism, and no basic human decency--just hostility directed at a child. This felt like clear discrimination against a disability. My child's condition was met with ignorance and aggression instead of patience and basic respect. That is not only wrong--it's unacceptable in any public place. If your staff cannot handle interacting with individuals with special needs, they should not be in customer-facing roles. Management needs to take this seriously, address this employee's conduct, and provide proper training immediately. No family should ever be treated this way. read more

I got there at 9:30 and they had one line open and their self checkout with 3 of 6 registers open. Each of the lines was halfway down the aisles for both so decided on self. This was after trying to push a cart down two aisle that had carts on them completely blocking you from getting what you would need on that side. When i finally got to the self checkout register I had 5 boxes of oatmeal all the same so i scanned them and went to pay when the register locked up. The girl came over with a scowl on her face and looked at my cart and asked why i didn't put them on the section i saif i scanned all 5 and was going to just not waste time. She said the machine views that as theft so took them out of my cart and put them there. I tried to pay and the register flagged me again at this point i am about to scream. This time the video picked up someone begind me with items in their hand. Finally paid and got my items and my bag and was leaving when the security guard stopped me and asked if everything was paid for. DUH!!! You just saw me walk from self checkout so... walked to my car and got in. The reason for only 3 self checkout line the city regulates that one employee can only watch three checkout lines. Seriously I am over the micromanaging of cities with self checkout lines and stores, first Long Beach, then Costa Mesa and now Santa ana... come on... stores aren't obviously hiring enough people to handle it read more

This location has great customer service. I made a drive up order and had an issue with one of the substitutions they were trying to make. Unfortunately, there was a glitch with the app. But when I called the store simply to tell them what I wanted to edit, not only did the employee graciously take care of it but she offered it to me for free, which I did not expect at all. Im not sure why one of the best and most successful vons stores woth amazing employees has suddenly needed a very annoying and frankly incompetent manager to come in and remove several of the best and most well liked workers in the store. All women, all very obviously competent and well like by customers, one who many people come to the store because shes so thoughtful and helpful and goes out of her way to remember customers and pay special attention to their needs. This store is bit pricey, compared to others but it's closest to my apartment. I come here when I'm missing a few ingredients or if I have clipped digital coupons. The cashiers are mostly teenagers or early to mid-twenties. Some can be friendly, but typically no one greets you. This last time, the cashier said nothing at all. Wouldn't even look at me, I even said hi and that I needed bags. Her name tag said: Teresa and just rubbed me the wrong way. Though I live close to this store, when I do try to shop there I'm reminded why going was a bad decision. They have tons of specials that are bogus when at the checkout. Even with a photo of the special they will 1.Act like it was a mistake. 2. State the posted sale doesn't apply to the product. 3. Ring it up incorrectly. The store is always clean which is a good thing because I went to a different store recently and it was a disgrace. So I normally come here for the Salmon. It is always good and fresh when I go. I'm normally a Ralph's shopper. One special thing that Vons has that Ralph's doesn't is my favorite ice cream. That may b a store changer, which is similar to a game changer if u know what I mean. Good selection in the deli with their fried foods. The workers always make sure my chicken is crispy and cooked right! The head chef Michael is always such a nice person greeting me when I come in. The store is always clean and I am able to shop around in the wheel chair they provide as they are always charged. Went to the meat department on thanksgiving at noon to grab a ribeye roast to find it closed. I stopped by the day before and the butcher told me they would be open on thanksgiving from 6am-3pm. There were 2 guys working at the meat department and they rudely told me that the meat department had been closed all day. Be careful!!! I purchased pork chops from the meat dept yesterday. Opened them up to cook for the family and was shocked to find they were spoiled. Then I looked at the label - which was hard to read - and discovered they were packaged six days earlier. I took them back to the store. The manager said they had not reached the expiration date. What??? How long do you think fresh meat keeps? The manager had no clue when meat spoils. Called and spoke to a phone rep but no one ever called to apologize for almost making my family very sick. Stay away. This vons sells spoiled meat. Not safe. Update - to the person from vons who responded - I did call customer service from the website explained what happened - twice - and no one got back to me. Obviously selling spoiled meat is no big deal for this vons. And obviously the policy of rotating items is not in place at this vons. Again, I would recommend staying away. They made the perfect substitutions when they were out of a few items and the delivery person was so friendly and helpful when he brought the order out to my car. I understand how miserable it must be to work at a place like Vons. EVERY employee there looks like they got the life sucked out of them. Still, I diid not expect to be treated like dirt when I went to the deli on Tuesday, November, at 12:10 PM. I waited for help for what seemed like 10 minutes while 2 employees, one in back, gave me the look of death. Then, they pretended I wasn't there. Finally, a short girl with a black mask arrived to help. When I said I wanted my chicken in a container instead of a bag (I've had it done this way at your store for 15+ years), I was snottily told that they only had bags-- which I know is absolute BS. I could see the black containers with my own eyes! I decided not to get the chicken and left this miserable place hungry. Be aware that pretty much every time you make a purchase here you will not be charged the correct price on one or more items. Usually it's one item and I let it go as I really don't have the time to go back with my receipt as I don't live nearby.... but 9/9/24 was *particularly egregious with *5 overcharges coming to over $13. Over the course of the next 5 weeks I went back several evenings (the only time I can go in due to work) only to be told no one could process the refund (apparently after 5 is a no go). This is ridiculous, you should be able to get money back for overcharges in the early evening when so many of us ordinarily shop. I finally was in the area during the day on 10/20/24 and went in once again to get my money back. I had the great displeasure of dealing with Jordan who has the title of Customer Service Mgr. How she arrived at that title is one of life's greatest mysteries as she has absolutely no customer service skills. She arrogantly informed me my receipt was too old, even after I explained I'd been in multiple times before, just not at the "right" time. She shrugged her shoulders and said "I don't know what you want me to do about that, it sounds like a you problem." Excuse me? Overcharging to the degree this store does consistently is either a bait and switch scheme on steroids, or blatant incompetence, and in no way should ever be blamed on the customer or met with anything less than sincere apologies and a make it right attitude. We argued about this fact and hearing us from about 3 ft away David came over and told us both to zip it and asked me "what my problem was". David is well aware of the overcharging as I've spoken to him about it previously when I've caught the errors at the register, *and when I've overheard others complain in line about this issue. He then proceeded to tell me if I'd shut up he'd refund the money. Again, where these people learned speaking to anyone this way much less a customer is acceptable, is beyond comprehension. I told him I wasn't going to "shut up" and would be happy to call corporate if that was preferable. He did issue the refund after getting melted chocolate ice cream from the counter all over both receipts. The issue there is that the refund was several dollars short, each item was supposed to be free, and a $5 gift card was supposed to be issued, all which he conveniently ignored. You would think these people would know better and be more gracious after the court ordered Vons in early October of this year to pay back consumers $3.9 MILLION for constantly overcharging...... My advice is to choose a more reputable grocery store that also has better trained employees to have more respect for their customers. read more
