I had a very bad experience with the cashier, Michelle, today at 12:20 PM (04/18). I bought 10 avocados for $15, but she charged me for 15, which was an overcharge of $8.30. I politely went back to let her know about the mistake, but she raised her voice at me and said, "I asked you if it was 15." I wasn't paying full attention at the moment and she spoke very quietly, but as a cashier, she should have counted the items herself. I didn't mind going back to correct the mistake, but her attitude--raising her voice at me--was very rude, and there was no apology at all. Very bad service! read more

I came here yesterday for soda, and coleslaw, unfortunately the coleslaw was disappointing. It tasted disgusting. It was sour and the color was too green. Great store- clean, shelves always stocked, good fresh produce, lots of ice cream choices . I can find many things here that aren't available in other stores such as thin bone-in pork chips. Only 2 things that could be changed: 1. Self check out for just a few items would be super handy. 2. When another checker is called up to open their check stand, they need to take the NEXT person in line. Again and again they skip next in line and take someone else. It's just not fair! read more

Since Costco stopped carrying cases of 33oz bottles of water I've been getting them hate. I have commented numerous times that the location of these cases are in an awkward place. They are about 5feet up usually blocked by smaller cars of water. Almost 3 weeks ago while getting a case off the shelf another case came down with it. That's almost 70lbs of water!!! In the process of trying to not get hit I wrenched my back. I left my info with the assistant manager being assured I would here from the manager when they were in. I've heard absolutely nothing! I emailed corporate and received a choppy voicemail 1.5 weeks later. I'm still waiting to hear back from someone!!! Be careful there. And management please do better! read more

Big thanks to Aaron at the meat/poultry department This guy is so amazing! I asked for some beef patties and although I didn't make a fuss about the fact that the patties didn't look fresh and didn't even ask for fresh ones, he took one look at whatever was in the fridge and automatically went to the back and grabbed a new batch of beef patties. He said "I like to treat my customers the same way I like to be treated" This level of care and customer service is rare these days. I was looking for some ingredients in bulk, but didn't need the full quantity that Costco usually packages. My friend referred me to Smart and Final and until recently I had actually never stepped foot inside of one. This one is located along my way to work so I decided to check it out for myself. Lord and behold this is a great place to buy larger quantities of items without having to commit to a palate size amount. We used to frequent this store from time to time because it was convenient for us. It's a discount super market, so you should know what to expect there. Why we will no longer patronize this store is because the management and/or employees of this store allow, either expressly or not, homeless to panhandle outside the store. The last few times I've been to this store, there is always at least one transient outside begging, some with signs, even one was playing a guitar. That's not too bad, right? Well one night, we were in rather late, just before closing. We counted 3 transients inside, wandering around the store. One of these was shirtless, had no shoes, and was shouting to himself. I'm lucky that this store right across the street from my apartment complex. Prices are so reasonable because its a restaurant supply store. They sell almost everything you may need for great prices. Meat, veggies, dairy, fruits everything is so much cheaper than other grocery stores. And they also have .99 cents assorted fruits pack on sale near check out counters. On Christmas Eve morning, I ate at Magnolia Cafe with my parents, which is right next to this store. We were headed to volunteer at a home for veterans and were in the area and love that restaurant. We needed to pick up some food to take with us to the home, and decided to go into Smart and Final to see if they had what we needed. They had everything we needed, and more. Potato Salad, Coleslaw, Whole cooked chickens, a pepperoni and cheese tray... and they even had the random sauce my dad was looking for, that I cant think of the name right now. He had asked someone, and they couldnt find it... The cashier asked if we found everything we needed and my dad mentioned this sauce... and he went and found it for him. Why cant I think of the name of the sauce... its going to drive me nuts now. The store was clean, the employees were friendly, and they definitely had everything we needed that we were planning to go buy at a grocery store. read more

We really enjoy receiving the weekly ad from all the different supermarkets in the neighborhood as they all vie for you to come in. We specifically came in this Smart and Final store to get some Tecate Light beer and a couple of cartons of Shasta soda drinks. Prices for the beer was great because it was a special price of the week. Why Tecate beer? Well, really I'm not a beer drinker and actually should avoid heavy consumption of this golden liquid. But recently I was handed a Tecate Light at a friends party and yes, I enjoyed the refreshingly light and cold taste of this particular Mexican light beer. So much so that I vowed to have some in the fridge for unannounced visits. What about the sodas? The missus is always ready to serve thirsty throats and why not have four different Shasta drinks; orange, lemon/lime, root beer and grape. The price was perfect as the total price for the sodas came to about 25cents a can. Glad we have a choice and that this Smart and Final store is not far away. read more

This location has had bad luck with supermarkets. That said, Smart & Final has held up well. I can't say their overall section is as good as other places, some things are missing that you'd find in almost every other supermarket. However, they have things you don't easily find elsewhere. The most obvious items are restaurant related. I don't need most of those items but if you have a party... My suggestion is that if you've never been in there is to go in and wander up and down the aisles. You'll be disappointed for some items but pleasantly surprised with new items you maybe never gave much thought to. Prices? Sometimes high, sometimes low. You'll just have to compare the products you buy most often. Frankly I'm not one to spend $5 in gas and 1 hour of time to save $6, but that's your call. read more

It has a bit of a Costco vibe due to how everything is stored and it's so organized and it actually makes me feel like I'm in a nice grocery store like Vons. Everything is kept nicely and everything is super affordable! It doesn't try to break your wallet and that's always a big plus. It doesn't have as many pre-made meals but for these prices, I'll take it! The parking is always great. There's a huge parking lot and it never gets too crowded even with a bar, smoke shop, gas station, nail salon, consignment store, locksmith, cafe, karate dojo, fabric store, fish shop, etc. Plus it's located on a busy intersection like Magnolia and Warner! Really, really like this grocery store! The staff are friendly and helpful. The produce section is the best I've ever seen. The variety here is great. Store is always clean. Prices are good. Meat selection is excellent and the butcher here is not afraid to issue big discounts to clear the counters for new inventory. Checkout lines open quickly when the line gets backed up. My only two complaints: 1) The "ready-made" rotisserie chickens are not as good as when the store opened, but are still of quality [minus one star]. 2) Obnoxious, Chinese tourists lodging at the Days Inn across the street frequently come into the store in massive groups and cause havoc. They let their children run wild, and attempt to haggle with cashiers over nothing until the manager shows up and caves just to get the line moving again. Other than these two complaints, the store is great. read more

Rock solid Smart and Final store location. They offer a huge variety of foods in large quantities, not excessively massive, at usually better prices than the grocery chains. The Mtn High plain yogurt, you can get them in both the quart size and 3 lbs price at prices akin to Costco without the huge deal. They also carry the 3lbs Knudsen cottage cheese like at Costco. Both are food staples for us and very Atkins and South Beach Diet friendly. We can easily replace them here in 10 minutes not the 1 hour minimum it takes to park, shop, and check out at CostCo. The bacon bitsNpieces is a great deal. We open it up and break it out into smaller ziplock bags and re-freeze them. Each one cooked up is great for fresh bacon bits in an egg scramble or some larger pieces for a BLT. Not their fault, but the other stores in the same strip mall just don't offer much. We did our Non-Costco shopping here all the time. read more

A new market that opened during the summer! It still feels new and clean, and the workers are always out and ready to help if you're looking for something. I actually really like this place; it's like a hybrid between a costco and normal super market. They have your normal grocery needs but also other food and household products in bulk quantities!! Perfect alternative for those of us too cheap to get a costco membership!!! Good deals and a quick and easy spot to get in and out quickly with everything you needed. The only thing that I've noticed is more expensive than what I've seen at other stores is the protein bars, so I don't buy those here. Otherwise, I'm really happy with the prices and the fact that you don't have to get a card with them to get their savings! Their weekly specials offer GREAT savings! And another plus for those of us who are Huntington Beach residents is that this grocery store is technically in Fountain Valley so they still give you plastic bags, which is perfect for little old me who ALMOST ALWAYS happens to forget my reusable bags! read more

I am a senior and have resisted going grocery shopping for 3 weeks. I made a cloth mask with extra layer of protection and wanted to try it. Went to Smart & Final Warner/Magnolia at 5:55AM knowing that they opened at 6am. I was the second person in line standing 6 ft. behind the first customer. There was just one person behind me. The store opened at 6AM sharp and we were invited to enter the store. They had plenty of vegetables and fruits and eggs. The aisles were clean and orderly. A few staff members were stocking shelves and were friendly. The line for cashiers was blocked off allowing only one way traffic. Lines were taped on the floor to mark waiting positions, social distancing. I was the second person in the cashier line and was done in 15 minutes with a cart full of stuff.
