I got a great haircut here. I admit, I suffered a mild bout of sticker shock initially. $40 before tip is a lot for a trim and fade. But that's just UES prices, post-Covid. I knew when I hopped out of the barber's chair that I looked good. Multiple people complimented my fade. My edges were clean but natural. They say pain--I guess, to your chase account?--is the price of beauty. My haircut might have hurt, but I'll be back for more. read more

The best barbershop in all of NYC. I've been going to Eli, the owner, since 2011 - almost 10 years! I followed him from his humble roots at the shop he worked at in the east village, up to this new shop he's opened in the UES. I cannot recommend him and his talented crew highly enough. Even though I've moved all over the country, I still haven't found a barber as talented as these guys. They especially know how to cut my thick, finicky Asian hair and make it high and tight. No bells and whistles - just high-quality, friendly, attentive service. These guys care deeply about their craft, it is very relaxing to get a cut here. They are prompt, easy to book online, pricing is great, and they've taken great measures during COVID to make sure that customers are comfortable and safe. There are barriers between each chair, everything is clean and sanitized, and the barbers are always wearing their masks. This is the epitome of your friendly, neighborhood barbershop. After trying a couple of other local shops, I found this awesome place and have been coming here for two years for my regular haircut. Smart barber is a family run shop and they are all really friendly and accommodating AND they do a really great job. You can make appointments online or call in to see if they have any availabilities. They do adjustments if you have like a wedding or something and you just got a cut and need to clean up a little bit which is really cool! They also have water and soda and stuff if you're thirsty while you wait or after you're done. Bella has been cutting my hair and honestly she's wonderful and very talented. I let her do her thing with my hair after showing something I kind of want it to look like. I'm pretty particular about my haircuts (who isn't though?) and I've gotten to the point where I trust Bella so much now that I am so comfy that I periodically fall asleep during my haircuts since I usually go after work and am tired. The hot towel treatment after every haircut is the cherry on top. As they reopened after the COVID closures, it's very clear that they respect social distancing and disinfecting their stuff for use with each person. I highly recommend trying them out. read more

It was 5 long, shaggy years in NYC before finding Eli, he's been cutting my hair for 6 years in the EV, and you can be certain I'll be making the ride up from Brooklyn for years to come. I have, what I consider, tricky hair to properly cut and style...thin in some spots, very thick in others, fine/frizzy, and curly at a certain length. I got my hair cut by Eli, and I would give him 10 out of 5 stars if I could. He's an artist and does an amazing job. He'll take the time to listen to you and give you the exact haircut and look you want. I moved to New York from Oregon and have been to about 4 different barbers here, but none of them ever took the time to listen to what I wanted. Eli is super knowledgeable and knew exactly what I wanted right off the bat. I was able to ask questions and showed him pictures and I felt listened to. I knew there was something slightly off about my cut for a few years now, and had an idea in the back of my mind on how to fix it. Eli immediately voiced those same thoughts to me and told me if I wanted to commit to the hairstyle I was after, I'd have to adjust and change a few things and that he would help me get there over the next few months while still making sure I looked good. I can't believe what a great experience I had today getting my hair cut. I've been looking for a new stylist for some time and in my search found out about Smart Barber and Eli. This is the first time in quite a while that I actually got the cut I asked for. I showed Eli some photos of what I wanted and didn't want and he asked me a couple of questions for clarification and we were good to go. Eli was meticulous and precise in his cutting, stopping only to ask what I thought about doing this or that and all of his ideas were spot on, so as I stated above, I ended up with the exact haircut I asked for. He even offered some helpful tips on styling my beard and based on his suggestions, I'm thinking of letting him groom it next time I go even though I've never trusted anyone but myself to trim it.
