When we arrived in Skagway, we were told we could not walk on the pier as it was unsafe. They put us in a bus and took us to the end of the pier where we then boarded the Smart Bus into town. We paid $10.00 for the two of us for an all day pass. Both bus drivers we encountered were very friendly and polite. We were just disappointed in the town and that lots of places were not open as it was a Sunday. To be honest, $10.00 was too much money to pay for the ride we received. read more

Have to agree with everything said about driver attitude. But also, do NOT buy the full day pass if you are doing a Frontier tour in a bus because they might take you back to the cruise ship. So, IF you are doing a tour in a small group or bus, ASK if the tour operator will drop you back at the port. Sure, you're kind of hostage to the shuttle initially, unless your tour picks you up at the port, but our guide dropped us back there for which we were very grateful. Maybe good help us really hard to find in Skagway. Which might go some way to explaining who is driving these shuttles. read more

Your Driver Lisa Hollander was our savior on this trip of Aug 12th. She helped us in every way possible to retrieve a coat left behind in a store that was already closed by finding the store owner and asking her to come back to the store for us to pick up the coat and then getting us back to our cruise ship before it was too late, while all the time keeping all her passengers on board looked after and getting them to their ships as well. On the return trip we had a full bus load. Lis is a real Jem. As was the Store owner. read more

The easiest way to Skagway from your cruise liner is SMART Bus (Skagway Municipal & Regional Transit) shuttle's cruise passengers from docks into downtown Skagway, Gold Dredge, and Jewell Gardens. Costs only $2 each way or $5 all day pass, buses are clearly marked, and have 3 designated downtown stops on Broadway St & 7th ave., 5th ave., and 3rd ace. To get a ride back to your cruise, make sure you stand at the "end" of bus stop, look for your cruise's name and hop on. Drivers are extremely polite and helpful. It is very important you read the name of your cruise or you might end up miles away from your ship, as there are 4 or more ships docked in any given time. read more

This service was so helpful! I called and got a taxi ride out to Gold Rush cemetery/Lower Reid Falls Trail for $5 (I gave a very well deserved $5 tip). I believe it was cash only so keep that in mind. It's a very locally run service so don't expect some impersonal machine. read more

The Smart Buses are great in Skagway. The cost to shuttle from a cruise ship to town is $2 and to go out to the Klondike Goldfield is $5 for all day pass. Several other stops are available including one back to the cruise ship. We took it to the Jewell Gardens and ate at their wonderful restaurant. It sure beat eating in town. read more

Price---Great Convenience---Great Speed---Great Attitude---FAILURE While on vacation we got off the cruise ship and needed to use the local "Smart Bus." Fast service, frequent stops and a very fair price made this company look good. However... We temporary lost our backpack with diabetic supplies. We backtracked our steps and in the process I went up to one of their drivers to ask if they had seen it. At first I was ignored. The they acted like I was inconveniencing them to look in there bus for a purple bag with MEDICAL supplies. We found it (not on the bus). Later we were riding another bus and the employees were talking to each other on their "CB's" and badmouthing customers. Including me. As I was on a bus with a female driver, our old bus driver was announcing over his "CB" how stupid the customers were acting and telling everyone how a father and his daughter bothered him earlier to look for a bag with medical supplies. This is NOT how any company should deal with customers. Especially in front of other customers. We travelled on 5 busses with different drivers and all of them were on the rude and abrupt side. read more

Wonderful convenience having this bus service in town until the very rude driver we had named Dawn opened her obnoxious mouth to 2 different passengers on a couple of occasions during the short ride for all of us to hear and we were just utterly appalled. Finally one passenger gave it right back to her and good for him because he said what we were all thinking. Maybe she was just having a bad day but no excuse for that kind of rude behavior in a service business where people are coming here to spend money in your town. I see this similar complaint from a couple of others on here so perhaps this is an issue you should be taking more seriously and maybe investing some of that money in either better training or better employees. Either way, we reported it to the cruise line too because it ended what had otherwise been a glorious day in Skagway with a sour taste. read more

The option of having a quick ride into town was great. Although, our driver who was an older gentleman was very rude. Don't know if he was unhappy with tourists being in his city, or just unhappy with his job. Glad it was a short one way trip into town with him as a driver. This is the reason for the 1 star. Customer Service and a friendlier driver would have given a higher rating. read more

Chamber of Commerce needs to give these folks some talking points. We got on the bus and asked the driver, "If you only have a few hours in Skagway, what should be seen?" She replied, "I can't read your mind to know what you like." OUCH. Fortunately for her, we met some nice folks at the yarn shop and at the quilt shop who get how a little kindness goes a long way. read more

The Smart Bus was the worst experience of our Alaskan Inside Passage Cruise. We booked the White Pass & Yukon train excursion and loved it. Once we got off the train we got on the Smart Bus the gentlemen driver who took us into town from the cruise line was very nice. At the first stop in town he stated that if anyone was interested in seeing the Historical Cemetary the bus behind him was taking that route. When I entered the bus I asked the lady driver if this was a "hop on hop Off". She answered sarcasticaly "That's the way these buses work". Now mind you we had spent two full days in Vancouver, Canada and had the best experience ever with the Hop on Hop Off which is what the line is called. I mearly wanted to know if this bus worked the same since it doesn't say hop on hop off it is called the Smart bus therefor I thought it was the town transit (which it is). My husband and I thought the bus was going to take us to the cemetary but we were dropped off at Main and 23rd at a point that indicated the cemetary was a half mile walk. My husband said he could not walk that far. My husband has neuropathy in his feet and in fact prior to our trip his doctor was going to aputate the tip of one of his toes. Our trip had already been planned so he was put on a strong antibiotic for bone infections. So, we walked to the next pick up point on State Street. The pick up times were posted the first time passed and no bus... 40 minutes later an older female bus driver passed going in the other direction and gave us a signal that she would be back in a few minutes. We thought she was going to turn around and pick us up. 20 more minutes had passed while we were being bitten by mosquitos. My husband finally called the office getting the number was not easy Siri on our cell phone could not help. we called 411 and got the number. My husband was told someone would pick us up. Another 20 min. had passed then the women who come around before going the other direction again. My husband yelled at her that she told us previously that she would be back....this women short of giving us the middle finger wave stuck her hand/arm out her window with a "whatever" and the back of her hand like "talk to the hand" motion. We had waited almost a full 1 1/2 hours. I then called the office and told the office my husband has medical issues and they better send someone to pick us up. The gentlemen who we origianally got on with picked us up and could not apologize enough. This company needs to replace their women drivers!!! And adhere to their posted schedules on their city signs! read more
