We were in town for basketball tournament. Engine started knocking . Smart Buy Tire came as a recommendation by Coop at Legit Automotive. I took van in around 09:00 on Tuesday. It was moved into shop and diagnosed within the hour. Timing belt, engine mount, new radiator cap and new power steering Reservoir installed and we had van back on Wednesday by 14:00 hours. Doug was fantastic, took the time to show me what was wrong and what the old parts looked like. If we lived in the Springfield area this would be our go to shop!! Not to mention the inside of our van was returned cleaner than how we left it!!! read more

I found this company while working for a nonprofit and Smart Buy serviced the vans we used to transport the children. They have been nothing but kind, honest, forthright, and have explained everything that's ever been done to my car, or to the vans that we had serviced. Sure the staff is friendly "sometimes." We purchased 4 new tires for $600 "after a rebate." Which includes free tire rotation, and repair. Wow what a deal right? Well make sure you make an appointment for rotations, and anything else. Even so you'll be there at least an hour depending how busy they are. We've seemed lately to run into a slew of bad luck with nails, and objects in our tires. From Springfields awesome streets, and construction zones. Anyway they fail constantly to put a patch in correctly. We usually bring the car in at least twice to repair their repair job... Lately we've had to take our car in 3 times now because their patch jobs are awful. The owner's kind of a snob, and most his employees seem like they were just released from jail. Not that people don't deserve a second chance. But your whole staff? Well not like that matters either the staff is always changing. read more

This business came highly recommended to me. I've had some 'eh' recommendations in the past but this is not one of them. From the first call for an estimate on time and price to walking out the door I was extremely happy with this choice. Not only were they extremely honest about problems I was aware of but didn't mention but they were so nice. They did great work, explained everything beforehand and took great care of my car. Well, super bummed to have to say this, but Smart Buy tire employs a thief. I had my car worked on there. When I dropped it off, the center consul had a bunch of 5 dollar bills, singles and loose change in it and when I picked it up, it did not. I was told they had no idea how that could have happened, as it was kept in the garage overnight and that they hoped that incident wouldn't reflect poorly on them. Are you kidding me??! Uh, news flash guys....stealing money is typically frowned upon. If you can steal cash, how honest are you in business matters, life, etc? My bad for leaving cash in there, but for years I've had the habit of sticking small bills in there to grab for gas or whatever I need a little cash for. So bummed. read more

As I got out of my vehicle at smart buy an employee was screaming racial slurs at the top of his lungs. In my 53 years I've never heard such language at a place of business. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. read more

I went in late in the afternoon and asked about getting some shocks on my truck, was given a fair estimate, and asked when the work could be done. They said they could squeeze me in right then if I wanted. I agreed. The shocks had to come from the warehouse so there was a bit of a delay getting the job started. Once the work began, more problems were found than just the shocks. We had some major rust issues, bolts that needed to be torched to get the thing apart. The owner, Doug went out to the shop to help the guys make sure this job got done by closing. He was out there on the concrete floor with the rest of them making sure I drove the thing home that night. As usual the work was done correctly, the price was more than fair considering the extra trouble they had to go through to get me finished, I have had several transactions with Smart Buy through the years, and while the staff has changed (like everywhere) the service has been consistent, the owner honest, and the experience overall has been a good one. They certainly went the extra mile for me on that day and I felt their prospective customers deserved to hear something other than someone whining about having to wait an hour for a full tire change, or someone stupid enough to leave a wad of cash in their car when leaving it at a public location. I am not a car person. The most I know about cars is how to check my oil and put air in my tires, so when I have issues, I trust experts. I needed a new set of tires for my Honda and found myself at Smart Buy. Money was tight so I was really hoping to find a good deal, and figured it couldn't be all THAT much since just a few months prior, I'd purchased a used tire for this same car for only about $30. I was told here that my car requires a special, hard-to-find tire size. I drive a Honda Fit, not exactly a rare, fancy vehicle. I specifically asked if it was possible to put a different, more readily available size tire on my car and was told no, that was not an option. Over $500 and several hours later, I went home with a brand new set of Hancock tires. Three months later, one of the tires kept going flat. My husband and I both looked it over and neither of us saw any holes, nails, etc. The vast majority of my driving is done in town, on decently maintained, paved roads. I took my car back to Smart Buy, figuring there would be some kind of warranty considering the tires were just three months old. I was told that a nail had pierced it and they'd need to get me a whole new tire; it was not fixable. They put a loaner tire on my car and since my tires are oh-so-rare, said it would take a day or two to get my tire in. A week later, I had not heard from them. I finally called them and was told that my tire was there, they just hadn't bothered to contact me. Ugh. Took my car back in to get the new tire put on and got charged $60 for it. Because apparently they measured the rubber and what I'd managed to use in three months' time was a certain percentage... blah blah blah. Honestly kinda sounded like a rip-off, but a car needs tires, no options there. Incidentally, I was told on this visit by a different employee that there ARE other options for tire sizes for my car, cheaper ones that I might consider next time I need a new set of tires. Anyway, here it is, less than three more months later, and I am having another issue with a flat tire. I dread having to take it back there! I most certainly DO NOT recommend this place. They lied to me and the tires are junk - I will definitely be looking elsewhere for new tires next time I need to replace them. ETA: It's been less than a year and a half since I got this set of tires brand new. I have had to go back to Smart Buy no less than five times for tire issues in that time - that is more than I have ever had combined in almost twenty years of driving. Every time, I have been given a different excuse as to why my tires aren't holding air. Really frustrating. On one of those visits, there was another customer there who was screaming at the staff because he had apparently brought his vehicle in for a simple repair, and while fixing that issue, they caused another problem by not fixing it correctly, and when he brought his car back to get it corrected, they gave him excuses and just kept making things worse. Yikes. Glad I have a reliable mechanic for my car repairs - too bad my good mechanic doesn't do tires! I will never, ever return to this place once my warranty runs out. read more

Guy was fairly nice and helpful on the phone. It was my first time needing trailer tires (yes, they are different than car tires). The previous owner had the wrong size tire on the rim and the guy detected that and advised me they were probably the other size. He was right, as the other tire and the spare were that correct size. Ended up buying two new tires from him, just so the under-supported car tires I had wouldn't give me another roadside blowout. They had the tires when they said they would and I got them mounted in a timely manner. No problems with them so far, so I'll go back if I need tires again. read more
