If I could give Budget Radiator and Automotive 10 stars, I absolutely would! We were in Springfield from St. Charles for my daughter's MCDA Honors Choir workshops and concert when our 2015 Honda Odyssey suddenly started flashing warning lights on the highway--FCW, LDW, a flashing Drive indicator, and the check engine light. We were only about 7 miles out from our hotel, but we were worried we might be looking at a transmission replacement as it seemed like the transmission went "limp" and wouldn't change gears while driving! The team at Budget Radiator and Automotive got us in quickly, took the time to thoroughly diagnose the problem, and didn't jump to conclusions or try to sell us unnecessary repairs. They found that the alternator had failed, but they didn't stop there. During the repair they discovered the serpentine belt and tensioner were also failing because the belt kept slipping off. They explained everything clearly, showed us what was happening, and made sure the repair was done correctly. After replacing the alternator, serpentine belt, and tensioner, they checked the transmission fluid at my request, (which looked great), then test drove the van for about 20 miles to make sure everything was working properly before calling us. That's the kind of attention to detail and professionalism every customer hopes for. The van now runs beautifully, all of the warning lights are gone, and we have complete confidence driving it home. When you're traveling and your vehicle breaks down hundreds of miles from home, you're putting a lot of trust in a repair shop you've never met. Budget Radiator and Automotive earned that trust from the moment we walked in. They were honest, knowledgeable, thorough, and genuinely cared about getting us safely back on the road--not just fixing a car. I have been taking my vehicle to Budget for several years. They have performed a variety of services, including a transmission service, and have inspected my older car for "issues" several times. They once kept my car all day for tests and returned it to me with the verdict that nothing was wrong: a knocking sound I had heard when turning the wheel was likely due to extremely cold weather. They charged me less than $40, and I never heard the knocking sound again. Most recently, they replaced all the major components of my A/C, which had not worked for several years. Their price was $500-600 less than what the dealership had quoted me for a new A/C more than six years earlier! They are honest, do excellent work, and will always work to make a situation right if something goes wrong. read more

Great people, great service and honest. I had them check my wife's brakes and wound up nothing was wrong. So why only one star? We are non-smokers and her car smells like an ashtray. Not like it's on someone's clothes and they went into the car, but like they actually smoked inside our car. Two days later and we have not been able to get the smell out. I took my car to this shop four times in a matter of four months. The first time was excellent. They put a catalytic converter that I had purchased myself on my car for only $130 even though they had quoted me 150 on the phone. Every time I took it there subsequently to that though, not so excellent. The last straw was the final time I took it there, I waited three days for them to be able to get it in. I dropped it off at 8 AM, my appointment was at 9 AM. When he called me at 2 PM, I saw the number on my caller ID and thought "great they're done with my car! "But to my disappointment, all they had done was run diagnostics. I needed my car back desperately because I use it for work. When I went to pick it up, I was just straight up mad because although he hadn't fixed my car or even attempted to, he charged me $115. When I told him I wasn't happy about it, he got a major attitude with me. He said he had to pay his mechanic that did the diagnostics on it, and that $115 was cheap. I told him I didn't understand why it took them six hours to do diagnostics when I had an 9 AM appointment. I completely did not understand why I even bothered making an appointment if it was going to take them the majority of a workday to just do diagnostics. He knew I was depending on my car being fixed by the end of that day. Why would he not have called me long before 2 PM to let me know he wasn't going to fix it? I ended up having to take it to another shop the next day, and pay them almost $500. I will never ever ever go back to budget Automotive again. Communication goes a long way as does courtesy. **Paul: In reply to your reply--I had no idea that the rude guy that was there to take my money wasn't the owner. I only know how he spoke to me. As for bringing my own parts--that was because I bought the parts with the intention of doing the repairs myself. Only after attempting and failing did I make an appointment at Budget , and why wouldn't I have you use the parts I already had? The 3rd time I came there was to replace brake pads, calipers and rotors because the brake pads I had you replace on my SECOND visit were worn out after a month because even though I told the guy at the front that my calipers were stuck, he said that they were fine and weren't stuck, then proceeded to torque the caliper guide pin bolts Down so tight that I couldn't get them out. Not with a breaker bar, not with an air wrench. Wouldn't budge. So I brought it back to you guys to put calipers, pads and rotors that I had purchased. The guy that fixed it THAT day said that YES, in fact, the calipers WERE stuck. If the mechanic that worked on the brakes the first time would have actually fixed it right, I wouldn't have had to come there the 3rd OR 4th time. The shop I went to the next day and spent $500 fixed my car in an hour. They replaced the LOWER Cat . You know--the one that's easily accessible under the car? That money could have been yours if they would have even attempted to fix it. I wasn't at all trying to "damage your reputation " by leaving this review. And frankly, I'm glad you now know how your employees are treating what could have been a very loyal client. I was merely trying to inform anyone that looks at Yelp to look out. And now I know the rude guy at the front isn't the owner, which is good. When I was walking out I told him I would never be back, and he said "that's fine. We don't need your business. " Which is not a great way to calm a disgruntled customer, much less retain their business. 4 times I was there in less than 4 months, and after the first (successful) visit, I left you SHINING reviews. I have worked in customer service and with the public for 35 years. So I'm pretty well versed in the proper way to save and salvage unhappy clientele. If he had treated me with the slightest empathy or understanding rather than being snarky and hateful, I wouldn't have felt the need to leave THIS review at all. But here we are. And you had a chance to salvage my loyalty, but you decided to end your reply with a snarky jab of your own. My opinion, and my review, remain the same. read more

Awful service. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR THERE! It will take 2 months to get it back and in worse condition then you brought it in!

My son, who goes to college 3 1/2 hours away from home, had car trouble on his way out of town to come home. He called on a Thursday afternoon and they were able to get him in at 9:45 the next morning. They checked out the vehicle and called my husband to discuss findings. The price was fair and they said they could get it done that day. They had it done when they said and my son was able to get on the road. After he got home my husband (an ASE master certified mechanic) looked over the Work and was very satisfied with the job they did. They even gave a student discount. We are very pleased with the work Vern did, as well as the other employees. I hope we don't need any more repairs, but if we do this will be the only place we go! read more

One Monday November 13 I noticed the ground under my truck was damp. I figured it was a radiator hose and I would have to fix it on the weekend if it could hold our. Monday evening on the way home from work my engine over heated. Tuesday afternoon I woke up early in a panic. I needed to get my truck fixed before work. I put two gallons of water in it and drove to Budget Radiator and Automotive. They found the problem within minutes, hose clamp was leaking. They repaired the leak and I had time for them to flush the radiator, which they did. They really saved the day for me. Have taken my daughters cars along with mine here a couple of times and always had a great experience. For my jeep, they called after diagnosing and suggested the basic repairs, and if later it was still acting up, to bring it back in for more. Didn't see any sense in me paying more up front than I needed to. Very different than some mechanics that try to gouge you up front. Also sent me to a muffler shop for some repairs and told me what to expect quote wise, and if it was higher to call them back and let them know and they would take care of it for me. 0 Stars. Worst service ever received. Budget had our vehicle for 8 WEEKS and it wasn't even fixed when we finally got it back. Paid over $900 out of pocket - not charged for the 8 weeks of labor. Our warranty paid for parts that didn't even fix our vehicle and now we can't use it somewhere that could actually fix the problem! We were also told multiple times that "it would be ready tomorrow" and they never called when they said they would. Awful, awful, awful. Leaving this review sucks, but really?
