I should have pushed more aggressively for a larger discount, but I'd come from several states away and let that sunk cost influence me. I'll end up with an acceptable deal after a lot of my own labor. This would be nearly 4000 at retail shop rates to fully correct; I accepted a further $2000 discount from agreed price and bought the car. There was also high pressure on a ZURICH SHEILD paint and interior protection product. The bold print on the ZURICH SHEILD agreement states in part "PURCHASE OF THE PRODUCT IS NOT REQUIRED AS A CONDITION ... I was approved, agreed to purchase price, bought it, signed all paperwork. I was supposed to take delivery next day so two issues could be fixed with the vehicle (driver side window button and illegal tint had to be removed from front windows.) I got a call the morning of delivery saying the bank magically wants $2500 in cash to make the deal happen, after we had already agreed to a deal and signed papers. I purchased a Jeep from them only to find out after I bought it that the steering components were bad, as well as the steering gear box. I also had to replace all the calipers, rotars, and pads. So, after spending out of pocket $5,000, I finally got it up to par. The service contract I got through them did not pay me a dime. So, I requested a cancelation and a refund on the $3,000 I paid for the service contract. They did cancel, and the warranty company verified that it had been canceled and they had refunded them the money to send to me. This is, by far, the worst dealership we have ever dealt with in the 37 years we have been in business. We purchased a truck from Smart Chevrolet a few weeks ago. We paid to have the truck delivered. On the way to our shop, the delivery guys made a stop to have a check engine light deleted. The next morning when we drove the truck for the first time, the light was back on so we called the dealership. They refused to help fix the issue, which is what we requested, or give us a refund, etc. We are still trying to figure out how to fix the problem. The truck will not pass emissions so it is useless to us at this point. The manager claims they are not responsible and wouldn't allow us to speak to the owner or anyone above him. The truck was delivered to me in Ohio with a freshly chipped windshield, (1) key fob, leaking radiator hose, empty coolant reservoir, empty windshield reservoir, burnt/black engine oil and the hood would not stay up! All after being told that vehicle was recently serviced with fresh fluids and all components work! My sales rep was wonderful. I'm happy with my truck - a 2016 RAM 1500 pickup. But 3 weeks after I already had my truck back in Vermont, their person who handles registrations called to say he wouldn't submit my registration with my name and my husband's name on it. The dealership illegally and incorrectly (it's not registered with my driver's license number) registered my vehicle removing my husband from the registration form that I signed. I contacted the company that holds the lein AND the state of Vermont DMV who both said I could have my husband on the title and registration. More than two months after I bought the truck, I now have a huge mess on my hands to deal with and an improperly registered truck. He was incredibly unprofessional and engaging in illegal activity by altering my signed paperwork. DO NOT work with these folks if you're from out of state. Three weeks to start managing my registration paperwork is ridiculous. He claimed they were so busy because they sell 200 vehicles a month. Dude, if you can't manage 10 registrations a day, perhaps they should hire someone else. My paperwork was completed properly. So incredibly angry that he's messed up our ownership. read more

Purchased a vehicle here last year and since the day i drove off the lot, the check engine light came on as a "poor def quality " so i took it back and they charged me $1700 to try and fix it, well it didn't fix it so i took it back once again and the guy Daniel said he would fix it for free and guess what still didn't do it. I purchased a used 2017 Ram 2500 from smart chevrolet and initially I was upset and unpleased because my truck was not delivered on time, cosmetic defects and a few mechanical issues but the GM chad made sure I was happy. He offered me a better deal than we agreed on, fixed some of the cosmetic issues and when I discovered mechanical damage to the truck a couple weeks after he put me in a loaner vehicle and fixed the truck free of charge. most dealerships wouldn't have went above and beyond like this but chad made sure it happened. will recommend to anyone looking for a vehicle. read more

**3/27/19 Update: Came to edit my post to add to my already frustrating experience! Because the tag paperwork got screwed up, I had to go to the DMV, wait in a long line of course, to turn in my old tags and to clear up an insurance violation. The dealership took forever to file my (wrong) paperwork causing the DMV to think I had a lapse in insurance. Ridiculous. Then FINALLY get the correct color shift knob mailed and see that it is a used knob that was dirty with rubbed off leather, and this is after them telling us it would be brand new. I'm another who's looking at the one star reviews with puzzlement. I recently bought an ES350 here, and it was a mostly pleasant experience. First contact was when I spotted the Lex on line, and I called up to see if it was still available. I was told it was. I asked that it be held as I am 2+ hours drive away. The lady said they wouldn't hold it for two hours unless I made a down payment. Bad form and I forgot about it. When I found no other suitable cars I decided one morning to just take a ride. Before it, however, I made an offer to the sales manager, and it was accepted. Good form. On arrival I was introduced to Kristie Hicks as my sales contact. Dealing with her was the most pleasant part of the experience. As a new sales employee here she wasn't familiar with a lot of the policies and protocols, and she didn't pretend to be. When she didn't know something, she found out. Way better than trying to bluff your way through. She stayed with me the whole time I checked the car out, which was a while, but never pressured me in any way. She was very pleasant company through the process. Kudos to Kristie. When I decided to buy the car I was handed off to Woody, their business manager, to complete the sale. Woody was also a pleasure with which to deal. From there it unfolded smoothly until a couple days later when I picked up the car. All told, it was a pleasant sales experience. I take off one star for the poor prep the outside of the car received. It had years of filth on the paint that should have been buffed off before going on the lot. In fairness, the interior prep was mostly ok. Also, they did a totally amateurish touchup of a scrape on the bumper. I didn't have the best experience today with this dealership. I could tell they probably do well as a small-time dealership (because they are in the middle of nowhere with some great new and used cars on the lot), but they could greatly stand to improve on customer service. I drove over an hour to take a look at a car, and wanted to test drive it. The sales rep (whom I will not name) knew all day that I would be coming there to test drive a specific car I had inquired about. The car was clean as a whistle online when viewing it's photos, but when I was taken outside to look at it it was dirty as ever. The sales rep apologized for its appearance, stating that the general manager was using it as his daily driver. I didn't mind that at all, as it is common, but to leave it dirty when a potential customer was coming to view it from out of town was not acceptable. I could immediately tell that my wife was disappointed. She didn't even want to get in it for the test drive. The car smelled like cigarettes, had his belongings in the arm rest compartment (part of the compartment laying in the floor on the passenger side (I picked it up and put it where it belonged), stuff on the floor, stuff in cup holder, lots of things of his in the trunk and more. It really dampened the experience. Any car you show a potential customer who will potentially spend $30K should be cleaned, aired out, and made to look good as new. It did not make me feel special as a customer at all, and unfortunately it was enough to make me not want the car. As well, the sales rep had worked there only two months. In all fairness, there was a young lady there who greeted me with a great smile, had a great attitude, and was very helpful as I awaited the sales rep. As well, the lady who worked to see what kind of financing I could receive was also very cordial and helpful. The sales rep who helped us was a great guy too, but he should definitely never let this happen again. As I told him while on the test drive, a first impression is very important. I also told him that they certainly should have cleaned the car before my arrival. They may be a great dealership (I wouldn't know), but I must rate THIS experience, which is hopefully an isolated one. Reviews like this may help them to improve and not allow such instances as this again. read more

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS DEALERSHIP!!! They may seem nice but they are actually a bunch of LIARS who are sneaky, slow, and unprofessional. Just a few of the issues we had with them.... They gave us one "true" price for the car but then changed it to a higher price on the purchase paperwork (our mistake for not triple checking the paperwork). It took 2 months of DOZENS of phone calls, voicemails, and emails to get a resolution (i.e. they finally mailed us a check for the amount that they "accidently" overcharged us but only because we threatened to take them to small claims court). They, specifically CHRIS SHELTON, would completely ignore our calls and emails and then play dumb like we hadn't contacted him before. For weeks Chris would say "oh the check should've been mailed to you already.. let me look into that and I'll get back to you". We would never hear back from him and then go through the same process again once we finally got ahold of him. Also, the original salesperson we worked with, EMILY, straight up lied to us and said she didn't work at the dealership anymore when we first came to her with our issues. Weeks later we found out from another salesperson that Emily did in fact still work there. Thanks for nothing, Emily. They didn't contact the DMV for the registration and title stuff until the day we called the dealership asking where our permanent plate was since our temporary tag was expiring in a few days. Did they forget or were they just waiting until the last possible day?? Then they ended up mailing our plate to the wrong address!!! To top it all off, the check engine light in the car we had just purchased came on 2 MILES after leaving the dealership. We ended up having to pay $1600 to replace some exhaust sensors. Coincidence? I think not, knowing that they also tried to pull a fast one on us with the price. Everyone, please help me expose the crooks at SmartChevrolet NC. We found a vehicle online on their website Thursday, July 9 so I contacted them about the vehicle. I emailed them (see attached pictures) asking if there were any issues with the vehicle. The response was the vehicle was inspected and no issues were found. So we went there with an appointment at 10am on July 11to test drive the vehicle. The vehicle drove well and we inspected the car to the best of our ability and everything looked ok. When we looked in the engine bay, I did notice that one of the cold air intake lines was broken which wasn't a big deal. Also, it was past due on its service. When we told the sales rep about these issues he said he'd look into it for us. When he came back, he said the vehicle was just sold to someone in Kentucky over the internet. We made an appointment Thursday, drove 3 hours to look at the car, and during our test drive and review, it was sold from under us. We were furious. However, the general manager appeared to make it right and allowed us to buy it. When buying the vehicle, we were "highly encouraged" to purchase an aftermarket warranty because of the make of the vehicle. My wife has had a couple of cars from this brand and her dad has several so we know the reliability of them. We declined, made the purchase and drove back to Greenville. Just to be sure and make ourselves feel comfortable, we had her local mechanic look at the car. In the same time it took SmartChevrolet NC to inspect the car, her mechanic saw the radiator was leaking and that the control arms, sway bar, and sway bar links were all worn. Two major issues that SmartChevrolet NC mechanics should have caught. I know we bought a used vehicle but I did tell them several times to be honest and let me know if any issues so we could discuss it. But to allow My pregnant wife to drive back 3 hours with issues that put her in danger on the highway is unacceptable. I called them back and stated what was found. I came to 3 scenarios for the mechanics. They either didn't inspect the car at all, saw what was wrong and said everything is ok, or they don't know what their looking at. They have 2 other cars of the same model on their lot and I wouldn't trust them. The sales rep blatantly told me "I told you to get an aftermarket warranty. Those issues happened on your trip back." I told him there is no way the whole front end would be worn in 3 hours and that the radiator just started leaking in that time frame. He said he spoke to his general manager and there is nothing he can do. I told him I understood and we'll see where this goes. This is a warning to anyone in NC, SC, GA and TN. Do NOT purchase a car from this dealership. They cannot be trusted. And when caught and asked to make it right, they say too bad. We Inquired about a vehicle on WEDNESDAY (5/13/2020) they then called us back about 10 minutes later on Wednesday and set up an appointment for us to come and see the vehicle today, SATURDAY (5/16/2020). As soon as we sat up an appointment for Saturday the online listing was immediately removed. We show up on time for our 12:45pm appointment today (5/16) and they conveniently couldn't find it in the system. Turns out they come back tell us that the vehicle we were interested in "was sold late last night". They even called at 11am this morning to confirm our appointment to come and look at the same truck we inquired about on Wednesday that was allegedly sold the day before. We personally think they never had the vehicle in the first place and just post bait online for a good price just to get you in the door in hopes to sell you a car worth more, let me tell you why. Sales Manager Joel had the audacity to basically tell us "tough." in the nicest way he could and "we probably couldn't have afforded it anyway" even with our good credit and proof of income then proceeded to offer to negotiate on a truck worth $20,000. Purchased a 2007 x5 paying pretty much KBB retail from them, and taillight bulb was out, ended up being a melted tailing, I went to get this replaced and they comped it, but took 3 trips before they put one in that was not broke. Then 2 weeks after the purchase i had to start putting half a gallon of antifreeze in it every other week. so 30 days after purchase, i find out i have a 12k car that i need to spend 1.5k on to fix it, and it also now has a check engine light for an O2 sensor, which means they cleared the code so i wouldn't see it during the test drive. Still waiting to see if they are going to comp any of the cost for this, but if they dont i'll be getting all my repairs and buying all my future cars somewhere else. stay away very far away.... unless you want to buy a car that needs thousand spent on it for repairs. used cars only come with 1 key here, and they have very little gas, plan to spend 300+ on a replacement key, and buying gas on your way home. read more

I had to have a few minor repairs done to my Dodge Challenger ( hit a deer, had front end damage) I was told the guy over the body shop was the best around, he apparently restores cars and specializes in mopar.. LMAO..... finally get my car back 2 weeks later, there is a huge gap between the bumper and the hood. The plastic piece that holds the headlights, there's a gap in that too. Also the paint is bubbled up on the bumper. This guy is more a BUTCHER than a body shop manager. Also, I bought this car in October from smart chevy.. it's now march, twice a week they run my credit unauthorized. I've left message after message... no return call. BUYER BEWARE! I was sold a badly damaged vehicle portrayed as perfect. Needs transmission, etc. - NEVER SENT PERMANENT PLATES - TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE - the list goes on. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS DEALERSHIP. I was asked to leave a 5 star review through text message, that won't be happening. We bought a 2016 Subaru Forester from Smart Chevrolet one month ago. We drove 5 hours from Virginia with our one year old son. Before making the drive we asked a lot of questions about the vehicle. It has 130k so we wanted to make sure it was as nice as they were trying to portray. Every time we asked we were told it was perfect. We made the drive and when we got there we were told the vehicle actually had "a little cosmetic damage that was fixed" but other than that, it was perfect. No accidents or structural damage is what we were told. The test drive went well and we decided to buy the vehicle for a little under 15k. The first hour or so of the drive was fine until we picked up speed. The car begin humming and vibrating at high speeds. When we got home we decided to have it checked over worried they didn't balance the tires, etc. That's when we found out it has two horribly bent wheels, the radiator support has been welded back in, the tires weren't balanced, there was spray paint overspray on the top of the vehicle near the windshield and on the passenger side door, they recently put in a control arm and it wasn't properly torqued, and the cherry on top, it needs a transmission. We started calling the dealership repeatedly a week after we got home and didn't end up talking to anyone for 3 weeks. When I talked to the manager his incompetence was baffling. During the conversation he asked why I didn't buy an extended warranty. I told him we had talked to multiple people over the phone that guaranteed us a car in perfect working order, we were also reassured in person. I then asked Chad does that mean that your customers can't trust the word of your employees and should rely solely on their own eyes when buying a car from your dealership. His reply? " I guess". Chad, you truly made my jaw drop in that moment. If that is the case, your dealership has no business selling cars online and shipping them. The only thing we were offered was having a used transmission put in the car for $2,400. By the same employees that can't torque a control arm properly? That sounds like a great idea. There were also 3 open recalls on the car that should've been fixed before I purchased it. Another issue, I still don't have my tags. I've had expired temporary tags on my car since the 15th. It is now the 23rd. They also sent us home with the wrong paperwork, giving us the hard copies. This place is a mess. Do yourself a favor and shop elsewhere. The bad reviews aren't lying or exaggerating. This is the type of dealership where you either have good luck or bad luck, but that's all it is. There is no quality control with the vehicles they buy and sell. I filed a complaint to the BBB in North Carolina. If you had a similar experience I recommend you do the same.
