BUYER BEWARE! I was sold a badly damaged vehicle portrayed as perfect. Needs transmission, etc. - NEVER SENT PERMANENT PLATES - TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE - the list goes on. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS DEALERSHIP. I was asked to leave a 5 star review through text message, that won't be happening. We bought a 2016 Subaru Forester from Smart Chevrolet one month ago. We drove 5 hours from Virginia with our one year old son. Before making the drive we asked a lot of questions about the vehicle. It has 130k so we wanted to make sure it was as nice as they were trying to portray. Every time we asked we were told it was perfect. We made the drive and when we got there we were told the vehicle actually had "a little cosmetic damage that was fixed" but other than that, it was perfect. No accidents or structural damage is what we were told. The test drive went well and we decided to buy the vehicle for a little under 15k. The first hour or so of the drive was fine until we picked up speed. The car begin humming and vibrating at high speeds. When we got home we decided to have it checked over worried they didn't balance the tires, etc. That's when we found out it has two horribly bent wheels, the radiator support has been welded back in, the tires weren't balanced, there was spray paint overspray on the top of the vehicle near the windshield and on the passenger side door, they recently put in a control arm and it wasn't properly torqued, and the cherry on top, it needs a transmission. We started calling the dealership repeatedly a week after we got home and didn't end up talking to anyone for 3 weeks. When I talked to the manager his incompetence was baffling. During the conversation he asked why I didn't buy an extended warranty. I told him we had talked to multiple people over the phone that guaranteed us a car in perfect working order, we were also reassured in person. I then asked Chad does that mean that your customers can't trust the word of your employees and should rely solely on their own eyes when buying a car from your dealership. His reply? " I guess". Chad, you truly made my jaw drop in that moment. If that is the case, your dealership has no business selling cars online and shipping them. The only thing we were offered was having a used transmission put in the car for $2,400. By the same employees that can't torque a control arm properly? That sounds like a great idea. There were also 3 open recalls on the car that should've been fixed before I purchased it. Another issue, I still don't have my tags. I've had expired temporary tags on my car since the 15th. It is now the 23rd. They also sent us home with the wrong paperwork, giving us the hard copies. This place is a mess. Do yourself a favor and shop elsewhere. The bad reviews aren't lying or exaggerating. This is the type of dealership where you either have good luck or bad luck, but that's all it is. There is no quality control with the vehicles they buy and sell. I filed a complaint to the BBB in North Carolina. If you had a similar experience I recommend you do the same. Called the evening before shortly before close to confirm the car I was interested in was still available and there for me to look at, and was told it was. Drive over an hour there and arrive shortly after they open the next morning, to find out the car is not there for me to look at - it had been given out as a loaner vehicle. Salesman as well as general manager apologize and repeatedly tell me they will make it up to me. Satisfied with the way they handled the situation, I make the trip there again the following Saturday, and then went home to discuss with my spouse. Monday morning I reach out to them to discuss pricing, and it takes them until Wednesday evening to even be bothered to talk with me. When they finally do call, they aren't even willing to counter my offer. Only thing they are willing to offer is to check with multiple banks regarding financing- something I can easily do myself. Looked at a vehicle yesterday. Called back today and negotiated price. After we agreed upon price and I was headed to the dealership to finalize the salesman changed the agreed upon condition of the vehicle (certain parts were missing from the interior that they agreed to replace). They apparently did not like the negotiated price that they agreed to. Do not do business with them unless you want to deal with a bait and switch. Salesman didn't seem to have the authority to make a deal even though he wanted to. They will get the money for the car they are selling but they won't get it from me. read more

I did my research before I came and seen the negative reviews. I am mechanically inclined and have ought and sold several cars in my time. That being said there was a particular BMW I was after and smart Chevrolet had it available. I never called I just googled what time they opened and showed up. Salesman was great the car checked out visually to my standards and the price was right. After purchasing the car I took it to my local BMW dealer for a scheduled tune up. Everything was in working order. This dealer saved me 4,100 on the car I picked out compared to other dealers. People saying they are crooks... that I don't get. read more

Bottom line: They buy cars from northeast, most have significant rust. Not the friendliest salesman. I recently visited this dealership to purchase a used 2005 Nissan Titan they posted on Craigslist. The vehicle looked very nice in pictures and the price sounded very reasonable. So I called and talked with a salesman (William) about finalizing a price and a time to drive up to purchase the vehicle. My father and I drove 3.5hrs from Greenville SC to pick up what we thought was a great truck. As we pulled in the truck looked great but after approaching the front of the truck I noticed the front tow hooks were very rusted. As I continued to inspect the truck I discovered rust everywhere. You could pull 2in pieces of rusted metal off of the trail or hitch. You could see where they tried painting over most of it but there was too much of it. It was so rusted you could not even pull open a storage compartment on the rear of the truck. It turns they bought the truck at auction in New York, where it's been for the last 10 yrs, which explains all the rust. The salesman was quiet nearly the entire time and had very limited knowledge of the vehicle when asked questions. BE VERY CREFUL BUYING FROM HERE! I looked around at a half dozen other trucks and all had rust. None as significant as the one I looked at but still a fair amount. Very poor customer service Purchased a Linc on a Friday and the next day we noticed that the floor mats were missing. (They had paper over the floors when we were inspecting the veh and on the drive home that night). Called back Monday @4pm and left a message. Tuesday around 4pm had not received a call back so I called and spoke with our sales rep. He informed us that the veh did not come with floor mats and we bought it as is. I asked him to speak with his boss and see if they would buy us some. It was my opinion that the veh should have come with floor mats. He called back later and said that the boss would not buy any. I asked him if he was willing to lose a customer over $99 worth of floor mats, he apologized and said they would not do it. I let him know that I would give them a negative review as a result of their decision. Later that evening the General mgr called, he was very angry and was very negative toward me because of my saying I would post a negative review, he said that he was going to give me $15-20 toward some floors mats but since I threatened to write a negative review that he was pulling that offer. I told him no-one offered that, the last call from them told me no. He was yelling at me and when I asked him to stop yelling he said "I have three people in my office that will testify that I am not yelling at you". But he was yelling. His voice was raised and he would not let me say anything. It was a very uncomfortable conversation. He said that I was threatening his family and threatening to take food off his table by posting a negative review. He mocked me when I told him that I would have turned down the $15-20 that I did not want floor mats from Walmart that I wanted the $99 ones from Linc. The proper ones that go in the Veh. He said I guess you would also want a paint job as well. The conversation was going nowhere. At the end of the conversation prior to me hanging up he said that if I was ever in Madison NC I should look him up that he would love to meet me and give me a free oil change. I bought truck off of internet from Smart Chevrolet and immediately had serious problems, after having about 5 weeks I have spent about $5,000 for repairs and will need to spend about $3-4,000 more just to be a serviceable vehicle. They had patched up each major problem it had before selling to me as a truck in " great shape". Do not buy any vehicle from these guys without having checked out completely first!!! read more

These people are the biggest crooks in the business. They accepted a stolen vehicle from a neighbor of ours (with a title that was never signed in front of a notary) and immediately sold it to another unsuspecting person. There was a few minor problems with my former vehicle (minivan) that we discussed with the animal that took it from us but I doubt that he informed the dealership of any problems. I was never paid for my vehicle by the 'animal' that was supposed to purchase my vehicle and he traded it on a white pickup truck that has now been burnt to a crisp. I wouldn't buy fertilizer from these people although that's what they're obviously in business to sell. read more

I would rate then a negative 5,000,900 if I could. I bought a new Camaro from Smart Chevrolet on the 29th of August.  I drove it for thirty days and went in person to the dealership on the 28th of September to make my car payment in person because the dealership said the finance company couldn't verify my income so they were going to have to switch lenders and I'd need to fill out more paperwork. I went to the dealership with my pocket pen recorder recording because it all seemed a little fishy to me at this point especially given my father who is always right with his gut feeling said he didn't feel good about the whole situation.  So I  was hoping for the best but just in case there was anything shady I would have proof and eliminate the possibility of "He said,you she said" crap. Besides I wasn't sure who to make my check out to for my first car payment Since strangely enough I was going to be switching to a new lender.  Weird. When I arrived at the dealership I quickly realized it was a ruse to get me there and instead of signing paperwork, I was accused by the crooked General Manager of submitting fraudulent paystubs.  Quite rudely he said I had to options.  I return the car and he'd give me back my $5000 deposit on the spot himself.  My other option according to him was to not return the car and he'd repo it and I wouldn't get anything.  Furious of what this dickhead was accusing me of in the first place which was completely false to begin with I said, "Sure. No problem. I'll bring it back tomorrow."  I came home and called the finance company to hear how my stubs were fraudulent when I knew they weren't.   The representative at the finance company told me a completely different story and said they only denied the loan because they were unable to verify my income because no one from my small business had returned their call.  Yes since my paystubs were generic and printed from internet, they needed to verify with a company representative. I explained that my company was small and still handwrites checks hence the generic stubs (which the salesman from Smart Chevrolet himself told me where to go online to generate them in the first place. "We do it all the time for so small business buyers," he said.)  The representative at the finance company apologized for not being able to verify my income and thus denying the loan. I said not to worry I just wanted my dealings with this shady business to end and told him I'm sure the next place I went to but a car would use them and they could approve the next one. We laughed and hung up. At this point totally not trusting Smart Chevrolet, I armed myself again with my pocket pen camera and returned the car. After the sales manager got the keys to inspect it and commented how it was shiner than when I left the lot with it, the general Manager said he wouldn't be giving me a check today because he needed to check with the owner to see how much they had spent retaking possession of the car and IF there was any left, he'd cut me the check then. I calmly reminded him of our agreement from the previous day and told him I fulfilled my portion. I reminded him he said he'd give me my down payment back in full upon delivery and with a smirky fat face he said, " I changed my mind."  I reminded him I put $5000 in cash down and promised him I would get my money back.  As I left his office Rick Smith said to his little finance sidekick, "that fag ain't gonna do nothing." I bit my tongue and calmly continued for the door, trying to convince myself that didn't just happen. I didn't cause a scene but instead went straight to the sales manager (who sold me the car to begin with) and made damn sure I got him verifying what I had put 5000 down and what I was due it back. He promised me I would be getting it all back and assured me that it was just that the owner wasn't there to sign the check and the GM just wouldn't admit that to me. Rick Smith the GM, had told me to give him a day to get it ready so I politely and patiently waited a day to get it ready.  Today I called up there to speak with Justin, the Sales manager first because I didn't want to deal with Rick, the pompous homophobic asshole.  Obviously my patience in dealing with a thief had concluded.  Justin asked me to give him 5 minutes and call him back.  So I called back 5 minutes later and allegedly Justin had spoken with the GM and said I just needed to talk to the GM directly.  His tone had began to change at this point so I said fine, I'll talk to Rick. He told me he wasn't giving me my money and to get a lawyer. read more

Dishonest, Unorganized.. Purchased Online..Beware of That!! We purchased a used truck, paint and body in immaculate condition. Many questions asked because of buying online. We sent the Full Asking Price plus Delivery, we waited almost a week for them to overnight the paperwork to sign. Once they found it still sitting on someone's desk. We had spoken to 3or 4 people who had no clue. Finally we were delivered the truck, there were no bulbs in the headlights and the headlights did not even work!! They cut the rearview camera off and tucked the wiring to install the temp tag.. seriously??!! Then the roof of the truck did not match the rest of the paint.. it was cracked and rusted, the was not disclosed during questioning and the picture we requested was a distant so you could not see the damage. The "Sales Manager Chris Avitala" was going to fix it all after many phone and email exchanges. Once the invoices were received and promises of making it right, no communication has been acknowledged. They will not return or accept calls. Have taken it to the BBB, but dont think they really care about their business! As a business owner myself.. I know reviews are a large part of how people come to you or dont. So.. since they are unwilling to stand by their word... hopefully this will help others make a different choice. A $4000 refund for repairs is much better than the 5-6 or more sales that you lose from a bad reviews! read more

Do not buy a car from this place. I can only assume that they turn around junkers for a profit, based on my experience. We bought a hybrid Tahoe from them, and when we got home we realized all four door lock actuators were shot, a $600 fix. They were completely aware of this problem, because it requires you to manually crawl into the car and unlock each door, so someone had to do this to show me the car. They did not disclose this to me, and I I didn't find out until the next morning when I went to unlock the car at home. They also sold it to me with a depleted hybrid battery, a $4200 bill to have repaired, and refuse to do anything about it. I asked if I could have the hybrid system checked before purchase and they declined, now I know why. Thanks Smart Chevrolet. The way the management does business is like that of a small used car lot, not willing to help the customer at all, or make things right. read more

If I could give a zero I would. My husband and I have bought many used cars as we do not buy new. Never in my history of purchasing a vehicle have I came across a dealership that is so piss poor. My husband and I purchased a 2011 Toyota Tundra crewmax. My husband being exhausted from dealing with this dealership and another to make a decision he went with this one because he liked the color better. This dealership did not provide a second key or floor mats. When I went back to discuss this with the salesman and manager they simply said they don't come with them since this is a used vehicle. I said I don't know where you have purchased vehicles before but ALL of my vehicles have came with both. Buyer beware they are not a good dealership to deal with. Go to a dealership that knows how to do business. To put the icing on the cake we had the money in hand and they still took well over an hour to get him out with his new vehicle. I purchased a 2015 Ford F-250 in May of 2017. The tires on the truck looked to be in good condition. On September 20th, 2017 I received a Low Tire Pressure warning. I stopped at a local service station to fill the tires with air. I checked the manufacture tag inside the driver side door to get the correct tire specs... it lists 60psi on the front and 80psi on the rear tires. I began checking each tire and they all had over 60psi in them... I then noticed that all 4 tires say max 45psi. They sold me a truck with tires too small for the size of my truck. I have been in several different states hauling a camper with my wife and 3 kids. I am shocked we have yet to have a blowout. On September 21, 2017 I have had the correct tires put on the truck at a cost of $835. I think Smart Chevrolet should take responsibility and reimburse me on the new tires. It is their responsibility to check the vehicles they sell are safe to drive. Had we been involved in an accident, they would be sued for millions. read more

After diagnosed revealed a laundry list of issues that would never pass state inspection. I believe they tampered and reset the diagnostics to sell me this lemon. After $5400 worth of repairs estimated just to pass inspection I reached out to have them buy back this vehicle that should have never been sold (especially by a company that is associated with GM), and they offered to "do me a favor" and buy back the vehicle--$8000 less than what I paid for it. With the crazy people out there in this world, one day they will take advantage of the wrong person and lose more than just a potential customer. Well I saw some of the bad reviews,but I could not help myself when I saw a hard to find Dodge diesel pickup truck with low miles and one owner on the car fax. Six hour drive oneway started out 4am. Arrived and can see the pickup in the first row. Met the salesman seemed like a nice guy was helping another customer but handed me the keys he knew I was on my way great. Truck looks great from a distance,but up close a disaster. 2012 with custom bumpers? Second look they are homemade bumpers look like they were welded in shop class with silicone filler and all. A few dents filled in and painted white,looked at the under carriage caked in orange clay and more silicone in the wells. Inside the cab you can see the water stains in the top of the ceiling. I had my son with me,I showed him a trick I said check where the tire jack is stored I bet you their is sand inside it because they are not going to spend the extra time cleaning it. He opened it and it was covered. We stopped their spent almost five minutes and already knew this truck was toast. Being a police officer for 25 years I looked around and observed a number of vehicles in the lot out back not looking like trade in 's but something a low bid would buy. Great looking cars one or two decent sales people (Unfortunate for them they are there because they need jobs) but be very weary of dealing with these folks (snakes in the grass), in fact stay away from them. While I don't think and truly hope the owner don't know whats going on with their operations, the inmates are running this place. They are bunch of con men and women. If you purchase a car pay attention to the sales price, and make sure they itemize that before you sign anything. I fault myself partially for wanting this particular vehicle so bad that I dealt with their sub-par customer service, but they wouldn't do anything for the car that a carmax and or other car dealers do as a courtesy for their customers and they are tricky with the numbers. Sell your car out right folks dont let them low ball you on a trade in. I think it makes sense that they've changed the business name multiples times in an attempt to shed their bad reputation. Upper Management needs to clean house from the Finance Manager or down. Do not use purchase from this place at all. If anyone is giving them a good recommendation, I'm betting its one of the mgrs signing in under assumed names. Reached a price, financing and put a deposit down on a car on their lot. Since I live several hours away, they said they would deliver, then they couldn't, so it was a couple more days until I could get over there. In the meantime, they stopped returning my calls. Finally caught Liz on her cell, to make sure everything was OK before making the drive and she told me there was an accident. She said they crumpled the top driving it into their bay. She told me she would send pictures so I could decide if I wanted it repaired or to get a refund. Suddenly, two people called me back to find out what was going on, the second being Barry. Barry told me there would be no pictures. Barry said I had two options. I could get a refund, or I could not get a refund. These liars obviously sold my car to someone else, dodged my calls and finally lied to me about it. Stay far, far away from these scam artists. JW was a great guy that helped us. But as a business Smart Chevrolet seemed poor. The truck I came to see from over 4 hours away was dirty. Loose change on top the center console, empty water bottles, and the truck itself was just dirty with grime and bugs. The oil had 20% life, so to me they never looked the truck over or maintenance the truck. They knew we were coming 24 hours in advance. The GM came across as rude and seemed we were bothering him when we were negotiating the price. Just glad I got the extended warranty. read more

I purchased a 2013 Audi s7 and not even a week home and the turbo blew out, the repair shop informed me that the other turbo had been blown out before and was poorly put back to together rather than replaced, I didn't purchase their $5k warranty because I couldn't afford the extra charge and so they gave me $1k towards my $7,500 repair cost!!!, to top it off a day after getting it back on the road I find out the air conditioner doesn't work!! Didn't think to check it because it was cold out and I thought on a $40k used car that the AC would work!! 100 point inspection yea right!! Buyer be were! We purchased a car from Smart Chevrolet almost 1 year ago to date and it has been one thing after another. Today was the final straw and the reason for this bad review. I took my car for inspection and it failed due to the window tent being to dark. Now we bought this car with the windows already tented and the car had to be inspected before we bought it so how could it pass then and not now? Well they told us it was possible that the tent "got darker over time" and that is impossible. They also were unable to test the tent their self because the tool was not working. The morning after I sent an inquiry through the web site on a used car, I received a text, an email and a phone call. Seemed like Smart Chevrolet was ready and willing to talk about this car. I e-mailed back immediately and asked if they could double check that the car was actually still on the lot. I live more than 3 hours away and am not going to entertain that drive for nothing. At that point, all communication suddenly stopped. It has now been almost a week. The car is still on their site and I am not going to chase down basic information such as does the vehicle even exist. So either nobody there was willing to do what they probably do 100x a day which is walk outside to look at the inventory, and/or the other reviews of cars "magically being sold minutes before we arrived" was what I was going to face after driving 3+ hours each way. Sorry, I don't play the bait and switch game. Every review on Yelp, as of May 2017 is a 1 rating. I have never seen that before. I saw an inexpensive vehicle listed, & liked how the ad read, it was a Hybrid, & ad specifically says new Hybrid battery, so I inquire, & ask for proof of new battery, I do not think that is unreasonable, since they cost so much, and they specifically say it has a new Hybrid battery, looking at car fax it did not say anything about new Hybrid battery. salespeople I talked to couldnt find out information, or didnt want to try harder than asking their own mechanics, I ws told they did ask general manager, but they couldnt find, & they basically blew me off as a potential customer as didnt want to deal with me, I asked if could lower price & got a firm NO!, so basically false advertising, if they advertise work they cant prove it is false, just like saying had a new engine just put in, but no proof, then its only worth what it is with used engine. same with the Battery pack. & If price was right I would have gambled & replaced myself if went bad. I was out of town and needed an oil change and was told my truck was three quarts low. How can that be? I just changed the oil at the dealer less than two months ago, as I change it every 5k religiously. Well, come to find out, the dealer has repeatedly shorted me three courts of oil! We called the dealer, and they denied it. Where did three quarts of oil go?! Then, it turns out they haven't been rotating the tires either. My tires are cupped and bald on the inside from lack of rotation - every tire! - despite me going to the dealer every 5,000 miles. Last time I was at the dealer, they tried to tell me it was because I needed $800 in front end work - on a 2014 truck that's 2.5 years old. I have since taken it to three repair places and had it checked a half dozen times - no repair work needed! Now I am on the hook for another $1100 set of tires. It's a damn good thing my engine hasn't blown up. CHECK BEHIND YOUR AUTO TECHS. Mark the tires. Check the dipsticks before you leave the repair place. read more
