I first started working with Smarter Homes of Austin in the spring of 2013, when I had just purchased my home and wanted to retrofit it to become a "smart home". One of the most appealing things at the start was the ability to have a consultation meeting and explain exactly what I wanted from my system without needing to dive into industry jargon. The professionals at Smarter Homes listened to my wish list, which was fairly diverse, and they proposed a system install plan that met my specifications precisely and within the budget that I had set as a firm limit. They were never pushy or focused on the dollars of the sale; their goal was to make my smart home dreams come true. And they delivered in spades. Peter, Jeremy, and Andrew have a tremendous level of expertise in system design and integration, and the quality of their work showed from day one. Every aspect of the system was carefully planned, implemented with a level of attention to detail that I have rarely seen before. They do not use sub-contractors for their install work, so I was able to establish a relationship with my system integrator, not just be another faceless customer. I really can't say enough how pleased I am with the amount of personal attention my project received; Peter and his team have been wonderful to work with over the course of the project. I found Peter and Smarter Homes through a mailer, as I had just purchased a new home and neede help untangling 22 years of old wires running to over 10 sets of speakers. They had a big job and they did it! Smarter Homes was able to set us whole house Sonos to run the speaker systems. We had virtually no cell service in the new home and Smarter Homes designed and installed a system which gives us whole home cell coverage, which we could not live without. The things like security, which Smarter Homes does not do, they were able to recommend great companies from their Rolodex and hook me up. I would strongly recommend Smarter Homes and Peter Sandford for any complex home electronic and wiring issues. They are professional and do very good work. It is a field where it is extremely difficult to find competent technicians, but Smarter Homes has found some. Two thumbs up! read more

Although they offer a free onsite consultation, I had the hardest time getting them to send my original quote (incorrect email, no call backs, corrected email went to Spam for some reason) after contacting them multiple times via phone and email. After I sent one email with two additional additional questions, they still wouldn't respond to me after 3 business days. I asked for $50 off to meet price of the original manufacturer online, they weren't willing to budge. I felt like I was trying to purchase from them but they weren't interested in my money. This company is incredibly professional. I highly recommend. I had a home theater system installed about a year ago. Everything went smooth: some minor glitches which was to be expected and were fixed right away. I felt like they offered a wide range of options depending on budget which was nice since this stuff can get expensive. After being heavily disappointed with the customer service at a major home theater store, I started shopping around for another business to install all of the necessary equipment for my home theater. I went to Smarter Homes of Austin on Farwest Blvd, where I met Peter. Right away Peter was extremely knowledgeable and made recommendations based on what I was trying to accomplish. Peter and Jeremy came out a week later and personally surveyed my room making additional recommendations I greatly appreciated. They recommended placing all the the main in equipment in another location which allowed me to add an additional movie chair to the room. They also made recommendations on other equipment issues in other rooms of my house that I did the work on which they are in the process of fixing for me as well. A week later, they came out and installed all of the equipment. It took them two days. They went above and beyond in my opinion, making sure everything matched the paint and double checked with me on certain things prior to installing. Even the electrician replaced all of the outlets so that they would match the room. When the work was done, the guys walked my wife thru everything and how to use it. Jeremy came by at a later date and adjusted everything just to make sure it was all working correctly and to the best of the systems ability. A few weeks later, Peter came by as well and spent an hour with my answering any questions I had. I built a back row riser which I had added LED's to and Peter was able to add the controls for these lights to the universal remote they recommended. These guys are awesome and as mentioned earlier, I'm in the process of having them do additional work at my house. I'm so glad I came across them and I'm extremely pleased with the work they did and how my home theater room turned out. Ive been living in Austin now for as long as I can remember but until recently had never really got in to the whole "technology" thing with my entertainment system. I was always a simple person, and got by with the bare minimum. It saved my pocket book that's for sure! When me and my husband decided to renovate our house we decided we wanted to take those steps forward and get a little closer to the rest of the world and start living with the new technology. We interviewed several companies prior to deciding to work with Advanced AV Solutions. We of course wanted it to fit our budget, and we had a few goals to accomplish and these guys had the best solutions and it didn't break my pocket book. I needed something easy to learn for me, and my husband wanted to make sure that now when he invited people over for the games he wouldn't get any grief from the lack of HD we had before hand. This company went the extra mile, and with the way the economy is now I know that finding that quality is not easy. They came out and walked the property, looked at our old equipment, answered our questions and within 2 days I had an estimate, a design layout and a follow up for all of us to sit down and go over everything. I realize my job wasn't small, so we had to get more details than a basic TV installation might need, but they performed above and beyond with everything. We have never been more thrilled with our entertainment equipment! Now we can entertain without shame! We have our friends and family over and they love our new flat screen, its HUGE! Even more than that I know how to use the remote! It was a lot easier than I had originally thought, and it controls our media room as well as our bedroom. Additionally I am also thrilled we can have our grand kids over and they can put there ipod in its cradle and we can listen to music outside when we BBQ or swim. I know we have a few more projects down the road that will include lighting control, and shade control, as well as security, and cameras which we were informed when we met with them that they provide as well! I am glad we found a local company who cares about us and makes us feel important. Id give up a few savings for that any day! We will continue to use Advanced AV Solutions for any of our future needs, and continue to tell our friends and family. But I wanted to make sure I put this out there so if you live in Austin and are planning any audio/video upgrades, or one of the many other services they offer give these guys a try! Had a plasma TV, audio, surround sound, and Sonos system installed by Smarter Homes of Austin, off Far West Blvd. Working with the guys was great. My home was being renovated, so I worked with Peter (owner) and Cortland beforehand to select the equipment. They provided great recommendations on products that met my project price point. The equipment arrived before the install date, and they were very flexible in scheduling a date in advance I had selected after I had moved in. Jeremy and Andrew came out the first day and started the work. The two of them were very pleasant to work with and were patient with my wife and I as we determined speaker locations, TV mounting, and what not. Jeremy had to take off from the job for a couple hours, only leaving Jeremy to work on the project. They didn't finish the first day, but I kind of expected that as I had my own TV wall mount for the 60" plasma which they hadn't installed before. Jeremy is very passionate and knows what he is doing. Andrew is a quiet reserved young man, but knows what he is doing too. The second day came and Jeremy and Andrew arrived to complete the job. The house was chaotic with other workers around and the AC went out. Jeremy spent a lot of time in the hot and filthy attic working on speaker installation without complaining. The day was getting late, so another guy (name unknown) came to help out, so there was a total of three of them there. This other guy was nice, but I didn't sense he was a full time employee of Smarter Homes as he needed a lot of verbal instruction from Jeremy. This other guy spent a lot of time talking and story telling, and I could tell Jeremy and Andrew were a little annoyed by it as the two of them were really focused on finishing up the job. I didn't think the other guy was as professional and I was a little uncomfortable with him being there as it turned more into a social gathering than job. Installation was completed that day, late in the afternoon. Clean up was pretty good, not great. There was a lot of insulation and dust laying around after their work. I spent at least another hour after they left vacuuming and dusting. Andrew came out a couple days later and provided my wife a one hour tutorial on the equipment, smart remote, etc. He even created a cheat sheet for us too, which is awesome. Overall, very pleased. I would have rated them a 5 Star, except for my uneasiness with the "other guy" and the fact that clean up could have been better. I'd recommend them to family and friends, and again, am very pleased with the equipment and installation. read more
