I was in town attending the 50th Toronto International Film Festival when I walked past The Burger's Priest numerous times and finally decided to enter. Upon first glance, there wasn't anything church-like or holy about this place, so obviously it was a state of mind. However, I've been known to praise a burger from time to time. Founder Shant Mardirosian's epiphany started in his home state of California where it became increasingly difficult to find a fresh classic old-fashioned burger. Years later while attending seminary school in Toronto with plans to become a priest, he decided to take a leap of faith, changed his path, and The Burger's Priest was conceived. In 2010, he finally opened a literal hole-in-the-wall with a handful of stools, a meat grinder, and a simple small menu. His burger redemption was complete, and his flock have made a pilgrimage to worship his type of burger in a communion of sorts. Would I confess to a love for The Burger's Priest!? It's easily accessible and has a large parking lot. This location is extremely clean, including the restrooms. There isn't any wifi, though. There are kiosks to place your order, or, you can still order the old fashioned way at the cash. The menu is pretty extensive, with chicken, fish, and breakfast menu items as well. There are also a number of drinks besides fountain drinks, such as coffee, iced coffee, and fruity drinks and milkshakes. They also feature a different price special for each day of the week. They even do catering, with a specially designed menu to order. I went with a Heavy Hitter as a combo. The Heavy Hitter is basically a double burger, complete with double cheese and a standard topping mix of relish, red onion, mustard, tomato, bacon, and best of all, their signature burger sauce. Their burger sauce is what really makes it worth coming to Hero. It's not like the typical Thousand Island flavoured you get eeeeeeverywhere else. This sauce is a little lighter and tangier, with a herby flavour that really cuts the heaviness of a burger. I can barely remember the bacon, but that sauce makes you want to return for more. The patties are 4 ounces each, and nicely cooked. The bun is nice. It's hefty enough to hold up to the two patties and all the toppings, and I enjoyed the mix of sesame and nigella seeds. The selection isn't that extensive, less than 10 selections total. I don't like Diet Coke anywhere near as much as Zero, so I contented myself with a mix of Classic and Diet. One of my pet peeves is being charged differently (usually more) at the cash than what's displayed on the menu.
