Honest, down to earth, fast and affordable from the jump. I've been going to them 3 years (2014 Subaru). They tell you straight up how much wear you probably have left on a part. Sometimes I have to persuade them to sell me work I don't need. If it's tiny, no charge. They were like this even before they got to know me. The only time a repair had issues (new clutch still slightly chirped), they took everything apart again and got it right, no arguments, no charge. Have they now moved? (Jan. 2026.) Honestly cannot stress enough how great this place is! This is my first review (they just fixed the AC in my car) but not my first time getting service from them! From fixing my throttle a few years ago (they got the part in and did it in a few weeks when the dealership said it would take months) to just helping me to pump air in my tires or to screw in a loose hinge - they are always super honest and give me a fair price! Pretty typical mechanic experience. Had my car stolen, recovered the vehicle and took it to SMG. Received a quote from them to repair ignition & catalytic convertor. Somehow the ignition repair alone was $2,000, of the original quote of $2,368. The $2,368 included cost of parts and labor of both ignition and catalytic convertor. I needed this job done at the most affordable rate possible, my car was stolen. Leaving me out of work, paying impound fees, & all around volatile. Attempted to source an aftermarket catalytic convertor to lower the $2,368, no luck. Somehow though, ended up paying just under $5,000. On a job that was quoted $2,368. That's always fun and representative of an honorable mechanic. However, there's just more that made me unhappy with the service from Irvin. I always honored my word; I.e. "Irvin I'm going to drop the car off at this time and this day, will you be there?" he tells me yes, just to not be there. Times he told me who would call me, and didn't call me. Told me the car would be ready by a certain day, just for me to have to call myself to find out it would be done another day. I will admit, the quote increased when they finally received the car, due to additional catalytic convertor pieces needing to be ordered. OK sure, but why did the ignition cost almost $2,000 and the housing isn't even completed? Ok whatever, but the price kept increasing after the fact. It even got to the point where Im pleading to Irvin, to let me pay him the rest of the 2nd price increase within 2 weeks. He's not willing to help me but asks "how much money do you have?" Just not good business, I didn't feel respected as a customer, and I didn't feel like they cared at all that they dishonored their quotes. The work was done well, only reason it's a 2 star and not a 1. read more
