    The perfect looking flat white!
    Barry M.

SMILE! Oh yes I did. The flat white I have just had is up there with the best of them and my caffeine filled body certainly enjoyed munching its way through a Pancetta and Asiago toastie. In the background Italian radio is playing, Italian foodstuffs adorn the shelves and I have just been taught how to say Aaaa-si-aaa-go properly with Scottish accent! A great place to come to start the day. Now where are the Ferrari keys

I was meeting the Mr's cousin for lunch today and was wondering where to go.. As I haven't been to Smile Central since the awesome Yelp event just after it opened, this seemed like a good idea. When we arrived just before 12 it was super quiet, but ended up totally full by the time we left. The guy serving was, well, all pure smiley. Very pleasant to deal with. I opted for coffee, mushroom soup and a toasted tuna /onion ciabatta. And, oh my God do I want this again! The soup was not overly creamy, and very peppery - just the way I like it. And the ciabatta was nothing short of perfect. For the two of us the bill cane to £15 which was well worth it in my opinion. I was really glad to see that Smile have retained their awesome standards, and that it's became a popular place to sit in and take out. I definitely won't wait so long to return.

I'm a bit in love with Smile Cafe and am glad that I have the medium of Yelp to express it, otherwise I'd be standing outside their door with a creepy placard Love Actually style. This is their city centre location - they have another spot on Queen Margaret Drive which I've only visited once, I'm sad to say. The city centre location is bright and airy and makes for a perfect relaxed lunch spot. I was meeting a friend here and even though it was busy, we were able to nab a table around in the back seating area. I love how they transformed this place as it was so dark and bleak before, it looks way more welcoming now! I took a quick look at the lunch options and decided to go for the pesto pasta with a side salad, and got a can of drink. Their lunch deal is £6.50 and I was really pleased with my meal - delicious, tasty pasta and a lovely dressed salad. I can't fault their food, it really is spectacular. They also offer panini if you're not in the mood for pasta, and they've just started doing pizza by the slice which I definitely need to go back to try.

Going to Smile Cafe allows me to pretend to be Italian ... or at least 25% Italian haha I love it there! Every time you enter Smile Cafe, as suggested in their name, you are greeted with a warm smile and a "Ciao!". A friendly welcoming upon arrival! Your eyes are also welcomed by the many freshly made Italian baked goodies at the counter! Cannoli, croissants, sliced meat, pizza, calzone MMMMM! What a treat! I'm usually here to have a cuppa coffee, as the staff members here know how to make a delicious cappuccino or caffe latte! I always give myself a few seconds to reminisce upon having a cappuccino in Venice, while sitting next to the large pictures of Venice they actually have in the cafe lol. The food itself, what can I say? Awesome. I just had their tortellini today and it was so ... yum. Yummmmmmmmmm! Great way to start your day, that's for sure! My Italian approves of Smile Cafe! :) Will be back for more!! As often as I possibly can hehe.

I was looking forward to try Smile Cafe Central, I am an usual customer and big fan of the other wee cafe in Queen Margaret Drive, but i had never got a chance to pop in the one in town, and it is only open Monday to Friday. Luckily, i had a midweek day off last week, so couldn't miss that chance! The place is waaaay bigger than the one in the West End, and i really like the interior and the design - it is very bright and welcoming. The sandwich menu is the same of the other cafe, with the option of sit in or take away, but they also do pasta, salads, soup and pizza (which was just finished when i went there, too bad!!). Dessert wise, they have cakes and wee Italian pastries, and they also sell (just as in the other cafe) biscuits, pasta, tomato sauces etc - all Italian products. We visited for lunch, and i got a soup (Spinach and Thyme, which came with brown toasts and butter) which was very tasty and enjoyed very much, my sister had a ham and mozzarella focaccia, and Mattia went for a Nduja focaccia - can't remember the exact name of the sandwich! We then ordered espresso (of course, we are Italian) which came with complimentary pastries filled of cream - my god there were delicious! Enjoyed very much my visit and next time i hope i will be able to get pizza as i heard it is very good. Staff are exceptionally good, Rocco and Santino are always smiling and welcoming, you couldn't get a better service! I absolutely love the Italian atmosphere you feel as soon as you step in from the door! Big thumbs up!

Focaccia Modena. Mozzarella, mortadella, pesto and wild broccoli! Amazing.

First time here based on a recommendation from fellow Yelpers. Heated so many positive things about it and Ada fellow italian I knew I had to come here. So today I went for lunch with a couple of my friends and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a well spaced out cafe with lots of room. It's light and airy with plenty of seats. The menu is incredible with lots of focaccia with different toppings to choose from. Also serve slices of pizza (which looked incredible) to pasta and soup. I got a focaccia caldi Modena and was just perfect. The flavours went really well and was a great portion. Reasonable prices too. Just like any other cafe tbh but least this has true Italian foods like mortadella and nduja. I will definitely be going back so I can try the pizza and pasta. They serve a range of Italian juices, which got me really excited as don't get very many of them in the U.K.! Also sold pasta brought over from Italy and is a really good price. Cheaper than De Cecco! Nice atmosphere in the place and the staff were really friendly. Brilliant place for a nice lunch!

It was a rainy day: drizzling : that consistency of rain that makes you feel a bit run down. I was met with the most delicious, warming coffee: a very smooth latte, that had such a lovely taste that there was no need for a drop of sugar. They were out of most of their pastries by the time I sat in--due to their popularity, I have no doubt. I chose one of their remaining items: a small cake that had a touch of lemon and a raspberry on top of a creamy frosting. It was delicious--a welcomed treat when I felt in need of a pick me up. I did not have a chance to test their food so am unable to comment. Do note however: This is a VERY small place. Cozy to be sure, but small and by no means for larger groups. It is ideal for the soloist and duos to come in and have a fairly quick coffee, cake, and food (I assume). This is NOT a place to study. There are no comfortable lounge chairs, chairs or tables. The seating is composed of stools that reside at two bars. It's kind of reminding me of Italian style cafes where you drink your espresso at the bar, across from the barista who just served it to you (though in Rome, they don't offer you stools even!). Given the level of their coffee and cake, I'll be back again soon.

Glaswegians, your cafes have definitely spoiled me and I can't find anything that compares to this in the U.S. When you walk in, you automatically get this cozy and warm feeling. Try to get a seat in the upstairs dining area, because this is where you will feel the most warmth. I also like sitting in the bar stools by the window because I like looking outside at the rain. If you find yourself waiting for a table, just take that time to browse the pastries, savory foods laid out, and even their selection of cookbooks. Their selection of cake and tarts change daily, but if they have leftovers one day then they serve the leftovers the next day until they are gone, but a lot of the time their pastries sell out on the first day. Bonus to this is that your pastries are definitely fresh! But the pastries still taste good even if they are a day old. Trust me. My go-to pastries were the Belgian Chocolate Cake or the vanilla custard tarts. This cake has hazelnuts inside of it and is served with raspberries, chocolate bits, dusted with sugar on top. If you love chocolate, this cake is the way to go. The vanilla custard tarts reminded me of home (because I would get Egg Tarts at Chinese bakeries and this vanilla custard tart tasted just like a egg tart) The only difference is that the tart at Kember & Jones had flaky layers of crust, which made the tart even better. My go-to drinks are hot chocolate or the Moroccan Fresh Mint Tea. The hot chocolate is served with foam and little chocolate bits on top. The Mint tea is served in a clear glass, but it comes hot (which was weird because I didn't think you would serve hot drinks in a glass) but I understood why because it has a bunch of mint leaves in it that changes the color of the drink to a light tan. It's cute and if you have a sore throat, it will make you feel better. Other things that I have tried and loved were the Warm Waffle (because it was served with syrup and fresh fruit), the French Lemonade (It was pink lemonade with a little bit of sourness), and the macarons (They make different ones each week. Try all of them because they go fast! I have to say during Christmas time their Christmas pudding one tastes pretty good, too.) Last thing to note is that the staff is very nice. I never really feel pushed to leave. They are polite and attentive.

The servers were friendly and checked in often, and the place itself was actually fairly big (had 2 floors and we sat in a corner on the second floor), but it had a quant feel.
