They were very kind when it was necessary for my mom to have dental work done. She is a senior citizen and they treated her as if she could have been one of their parents. They treated her with respect and dignity. The dentist was very personable, she talks to her patients and seems willing to explain with details how she can solve whatever issues that comes up. The whole staff was very helpful. My only complaint is that I traveled, found parking and found out that there was a very high copayment. If they had communicated this information before we arrived there would not have been a need to reschedule. That's the only reason I didn't give them five stars. Parking can be challenging and a bit confusing in the area because of the signage. The neighborhood is changing , on one side of the street you can find a corner store that's been around forever and in less than a block a Starbucks. High rise apartments and liquor stores are sharing the same block. I hate dentist by nature but this office is okay.

Sure, that service was 1/2 the cost of Dr. Hickory..... but that service was run by a non-orthodontist dental assistant! I quickly decided against the cheap route when I was informed that he wasn't sure if my crooked teeth were too extreme for Invisalign. (they weren't) Then I found Dr. Hickory, and all my worries were over. Dr. Hickory lives alone above his extravagantly decorated Dupont Circle office. Why is this a good thing? Because it means he offers Saturday appointments! I've never heard of a dentist or orthodontist offering such convenient appointment times. Just avoiding the mess of having to leave my office during the work-week for appointments was worth the additional price. But the value didn't end there. From the waiting room and from speaking with Dr. Hickory himself, new patients will quickly learn he was one of the first adopters of Invisalign treatments, and keeps up on all of its advances. Apparently, Invisalign's technology has evolved so much that it can do everything braces can, and more. Dr. Hickory knows how to make those advances work for you, with rapid but painless results. Not once did the treatment make me feel sore or require aspirin. This was my second time with orthodontist service. As a child, I remember having monthly appointment with an orthodontist, with a doctor changing metal wires on a monthly basis. With Invisalign, a 10 month treatment only required about 5 appointments total. Dr. Hickory always answered my questions promptly and reasonably. For example, another orthodontist in DC suggested that I get drastic bone-adjusting vanity surgery before Invisalign. However, Dr. Hickory agreed with my dentist, and thought such a step was too far. Thanks to Dr. Hickory, I didn't have to wear a post-surgery brace on my head and drink my meals for a month through a straw. Instead, he made adjustments on the computer with Invisalign to compensate for the slight bone misalignment. Problem solved. In addition, Dr. Hickory took time to personally inspect my progress and order a set of adjustment aligners at no additional price. I had the option to do another set (a re-re-adjustment?) if needed. Dr. Hickory's staff is professional, polite, helpful, and cheerful. They were helpful with setting up a payment plan and are always flexible with appointment scheduling. They posted pictures of their wild Halloween party on their Facebook wall, and you could tell they treat each other like family. My treatment ended yesterday, and on my way out the door they offered me a bottle of champagne to take home. Quite ridiculous, but fitting for a quirky Dupont Circle office. it was very thoughtful. Now, my teeth are straight and I am no longer self conscious about my smile. With permanent retainers installed behind 12 teeth (6 top, 6 bottom), along with a plastic retainer to wear at night, my straight teeth aren't going anywhere. Dr. Hickory's top quality service is worth more than he charges. After 10 years of crooked teeth, I couldn't be happier. Thank you, Dr. Hickory.

So this is what happened, my dental need was for a bad cavity filling in one of my back teeth that makes it unbearable to chew, so I can't eat nor drink on that back side. I was first seen by Dr. Sharmin for my initial consultation and exam, he then referred me to Dr. Mojd ( Endodontic ) who was nice and helpful, suggested that I come back to repair and restore the refilling. This is when it went downhill, on my way out the female staff who work the front desk and including the office manager, all lack professionalism and competence which revealed a major red flag. Both Martha and Lauria refused to schedule me until I could receive a confirmation from my insurance company for payment verification authorization. Unless they said, I can pay out of pocket then I can schedule. *HERE'S THE KICKER! When I told them that I can't pay out of pocket and after the insurance company called them to discuss authorization, they switched up saying that their office doesn't do this type of work and that I need to go else where. **THE SAD PART: is that they admitted to my insurance on a recorded call that would only see me if I pay out of pocket, so which one is it? This is how they got caught up in their lies, so now they are confirming to schedule me for the procedure ( they claim, they don't do at their office. ) only if I pay out of pocket. ***ESCALATED THE CALL TO OFFICE MANAGER: She was no help, undermined me, dismissive, was more confused than me and didn't even know what was going on other than that I couldn't get scheduled. DC Dental Spa was second on my list due to the distance from my hotel, but it was the best choice ultimately. I called in at 7am and explained my situation. Their receptionist was super sweet and checked immedialy with Dr. Hoang as to whether it he could take me as a walk-in. He agreed! The receptionist advised me to come in as soon as possible then gave me a run-down of their procedures. I agreed and was off to visit. Their check-in is very convenient. In fact, I completed the electronic paperwork in the cab on my way there. Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted by the same receptionist. She checked me in and asked me to have a seat. From the exterior to interior premises, everything was very clean and modern. The waiting area was especially calming. There is a waterfall accent piece that really sets the tone for a dental spa. If anything, it felt more along the lines of a therapeutic spa/office than a dentist. Within a few minutes, I was welcomed into the examination room. A dental tech greeted me kindly and asked a few questions, then prepared me for Dr. Hoang. We chatted a bit and I enjoyed her interaction. Dr. Hoang came shortly after and examined me then recemented my veneer. He went the extra mile in filing it down a bit as one tooth was longer than the other. This is something I had been aware of but never had a dentist actually try to correct it. Moreover, prior to beginning, they offered me glasses to protect my eyes from the light. I really appreciated this as my eyes are sensitive to extreme light. Although this was a walk-in, Dr. Hoang treated me as if I was a newly established patient and provided recommendations thoughtfully. I especially appreciated his kind demeanor. To top it off, he gave me some recommendations for Vietnamese food in the area. Altogether, my visit was about 30 minutes. Prior to leaving, I was able to pay using my method of choice. The receptionist emailed me a receipt and thanked me accordingly. In fact, all of the staff kindly wished me well with a smile. Overall, I had a great experience. My smile was back to normal and in time for the rest of my trip. If I ever had a similar need, I would definitiely stop by again. I highly recommend their services, you won't be disappointed!
