I was very disappointed. The music is played way too loudly, and it is hard to hear the staff. If you are a parent I would look somewhere else. They do not allow parents back during the treatment. They assumed my daughter's cavity was due to soda drinking, which she has on occasion, but we do not allow in the house. I did not appreciate this assumption. read more

I would recommend this dental office to anyone. They're very nice, considerate and efficient. I've been there twice, 6 months apart, and had the best customer service! I went to another dentist last year and they told me that I needed 2 crowns, which I didn't feel was right. I called this office and they said to get the X-rays sent over and they would give me a second option. When I went in, they said they needed to take additional X-Rays to be sure. The dentist did not see that I needed any crowns, and they didn't charge me for the additional X-Rays! I was very impressed and appreciative. This practice commits fraudulent charges. I have Delta Dental USA HMO insurance. The Dr and or Office Manager both made up bogus charges and added them to my treatment plan. LOTS OF THEM. For example: for a surgical extraction(D7210) and a Resin composite 2 surface posterior. - They want $893 total fee. 1.) $368 for tooth extraction 2.) Gel foam $150 (no code) 3.) Surgical irrigation $75 (no code) and a filling (D2392) $300. Through my insurance the extraction costs me $55 the filling $75, total of only ---$130-- out of pocket. My insurance doesn't cover the $100 for a gel pad and some $45 irrigation charges. For a total of ((($275!!))) out of pocket cash from me. *.. The did discount the gel pad and irrigation a little to make it seem reasonable... lol lol Two of these added on are fraudulent. Gel pad foam and irrigation. They should be already obsorbed into the those overly priced extraction and filling costs. THEY also are trying to get me to get crowns on all of my fillings at $395 each ontop of the filling charges. I'll be filling for fruad with my insurance company and blasting this all over social media. read more

The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5, was because of the wait even after showing up early to fill out new patient forms. But let me tell you, after reading all the other reviews, let's just say, I'm happy that I didn't see these reviews first because I would have missed out on a great experience. I came across Smile Design of Riverview as a referral from my insurance provider. I called to schedule an appointment and the representative was quite friendly and informative. She explained to me that I need to verify with my insurance carrier that I am assigned to the dental office for billing. This was odd, as I have never heard of this with dental offices but sure enough, she was right. I called my insurance company and was immediately assigned. I called back and scheduled my appointment. I arrived for my appointment 10 minutes early because I knew I was going to have to fill out paperwork as a new patient. Unfortunately, my wait time was QUITE lengthy. I was over 45 minutes to be seen. However, once I was called back, I was immediately tended to. I did not have to continue waiting. Laurie was my dental assistant and she was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I have dental anxiety and she clearly could tell. I had to have my wisdom tooth pulled and this in-house procedure required my blood pressure to be checked. Well, I knew it was going to be high because 1) I was in pain and 2) dental anxiety. Sure enough, it was. She asked me to try and relax as much as possible. A few minutes later, she returned and took it again and I was good to go. Throughout the procedure including administrating the anesthetic (the doctor did) she continued to be calm and soothing. This really helped me not tense up as much or be as scared. Dr. Brito was just as amazing. He explained what was going to happened and if something went wrong what he would do to fix it. I love that they talked me through everything. I would definitely recommend Smile Design of Riverview. I will be returning and bringing my son. EDIT - someone mentioned that they do not call to confirm and/or use a third party. This is no longer the case. Maybe their comment may have helped the office change their process in a more positive and productive way. While I was in the office, keep in mind, it was a Monday, one of the ladies that was at the receptionist desk, was calling to remind of their appointment for that Thursday. I believe their policy says 48 hours before your appointment, so they were giving the clients 72 hours to call back to reschedule and/or confirm. If she received a voicemail, she was specifically telling the clients, they must call back to verbally confirm that they will attend the appointment. read more

Absolutely love DR. Brito! I have had a bad experience with a dentist before, was real nervous about being in the dentist chair. Dr Brito made me feel at ease and let me know everything that was going on while he was doing my procedure. His assistant Rachel (I believe that's her name) was real nice and understanding also. Dr Brito is the kind of dentist who explains what is going on, shows you x-rays and let's you decide what treatment plan is best for you. Yesterday was the first and LAST time I will take my child to this practice. They are the epitome of why you should beware of corporate dental chains! The office is small a bit run down and reeked of curry (either from the food the receptionist was rudely eating while she checked me in .......or from the Thai restaurant next door). I took my 2 year old child in for an exam and cleaning and we were literally in and out in 10 minutes. The hygienist ( I'm assuming that is who she was because she did not introduce herself to me) comes out of the back and says " I'm going to clean her teeth" she does not allow me to come back and tells me I can come back when the dentist comes in.........that is fine but I have a problem with the fact that she did not introduce herself to me or review my child's health history. When they called me back ( after the 30 second "cleaning" she gave my daughter) the dentist barely said hello, quickly glanced in my daughters mouth and called out a few numbers before she ended the appointment and told me to schedule her again in 6 months. As someone who has worked in the dental profession for over 20 years I could also pick apart all the OSHA/infection control violations to go along with the overall lack of professionalism but instead I'll just see this as a lesson learned and take my business elsewhere. read more

Really wish I would have looked here before making an appointment.... Smile Design off McMullen Rd, absolute worst pediatric dentist office I have ever been to. Course that total is 1, but we show up 20 mins early as directed to fill out paperwork for a 10:30 appt. Waiting room is full, 20+ parents and kids, all chairs, no toys, no books, and some political rant TV show on TV. 11:30 rolls around and I walk up to the counter to let them know we are leaving, and she insists on checking where we are in "line." Still 2 people ahead of us, of which no one in the waiting room got there before we did. I tell her again that we are leaving, letting her know that if they are this backed up by 11:30 in the morning they are booking way too many appts. Not even as much as an apology from either of the 2 receptionists at the desk as we walk out the door. Based in the reviews here, everything we experienced has been going on for a long time with no change, so it seems they don't even care. Here it goes... *Deep Breath* One of my good friends recommended Smile Design on Boyette so I called them and made an appointment for both my husband and I to get our teeth cleaned. We waited in the lobby for over an hour just to be called back for (18) x-rays and to meet the dentist. The dental assistant and Dentist were both very warm and friendly, however I was not thrilled when they told us we would have to come back to get our teeth cleaned. That was very frustrating because that's what our initial appointment was for. That meant we both had to take off additional time from our jobs, which is extremely inconvenient and difficult for us to do. While I was there the Dentist went ahead and wrote out a referral for me to see an oral surgeon regarding wisdom tooth extraction. (It wasn't until later I found out the referred surgeon did not accept my insurance, so I had to go with a different facility.) Fast forward to the day before my scheduled return trip with Smile Design to get my teeth cleaned. I met with the oral surgeon (just to consult about my wisdom teeth) and he ended up extracting right then and there. I was caught completely off guard, but so glad it was done and over with (thanks Aspen Dental!). However, once the numbness wore off, my mouth was very sore. I called Smile Design to let them know I would need to push back my cleaning date (so my gums had time to heal) but no one answered the phone so I left a voice message explaining the unique situation. The next morning around 9:30am they still hadn't returned my call so I made another attempt to reach out. The office manager answered and seemed very annoyed as soon as I told her I wanted to reschedule. She literally huffed into the phone and said "Well I wish you had told us sooner". Um hello! The oral surgeon just pulled my tooth yesterday! AND I tried to call... even left a message. What more could she want? She made me feel like such an inconvenience. She asked if I was still interested in getting fit for Invisalign that afternoon (scheduled for after the cleaning). I told her yes as long as they didn't poke around my gums around my wisdom tooth area. Again, I showed up and waited in the lobby another 45 minutes before she brought me a sheet with revised Invisalign pricing. They were quoting me $4,400 to straighten my bottom (4) front teeth. I asked if anyone had reached out to my insurance company to see if any of that was covered. She said no, they typically contact insurance afterwards and if there's any coverage, they apply the reimbursement to your account. That wasn't going to work for me. I stepped outside and contacted my insurance provider and they said I would have to pay 100% out of pocket. Good to know right?! It would've been really bad to have found that out after getting the procedure done! Frustrated, I put my insurance agent on hold and called the front desk to relay the information. They didn't answer again, so I left another message, stating that I didn't wish to spend $4,400 to fix 4 bottom row teeth and I didn't see the point in wasting the dentist's time. The office manager called me back extremely irritated and said "we wish you would have told us all of this earlier because now we've wasted two timeslots for you that other people could have taken". In my opinion, If anything, I did the next customer a favor. Maybe by cancelling my appointment, the Dentist and staff could finally get caught up so the next patient didn't have to wait over an hour in the lobby just to be seen! Absolutely Ridiculous! As for the office manager, she is extremely rude and unprofessional. She needs to understand life happens and unexpected events occur sometimes outside of our control. She needs to stop taking reschedule/cancellation appointments so personally. It's safe to say I will never step foot in this establishment again. read more

Did not like it there. I have a fear of needles (only at the dentist). I was given nitrous oxide, but it didn't work because the mask wouldn't fit right, so what I tried to reach up to fix it, the dentist held my hand down and told me to calm down. He then jabbed the needle into my gums so hard over and over again. I was in tears, it was so incredibly painful! I've also never had to pay so much, and I have insurance.. They said I needed a deep cleaning, which cost a lot, had to pay for special mouth wash, then had to go back in after 6 weeks. I take really good care of my teeth and barely had tarter build up. They wanted to do 3 crowns in the back and I didn't have 1 cavity. The fillings were old, that's it. I'm searching for a new dentist on here because of my horrible experience. read more

Absolutely HORRIBLE! I went there for exam selected by company for overseas employment, it was to be a very simple basic exam and return form, I have done in past 20 minutes tops!! Company requested Pano X ray and basic exam ( Machine was broken!!, need 18 xrays??) After this the dentist was literally holding the form hostage until I agree to go over his payment and treatment options, I was like dude, I have a dentist, company selected YOU!! sign the form and move on, he listed on the form I was ineligible ( like I would bow to his pressure), out of spite!!! Company told me to take it your dentist, pano done out in 20 minutes. But this is the clencher, what medical outlet, allows their staff to smoke cigarettes at the entrance??? then the DA came an took my xrays, I could smell the smoke through her gloves!!!! and mouth. their pants were so long, that walking on them had turned to bottoms black. This was the first time I had to cancel, I had no other choice unless they wanted me bringing a vomiting child into the office. I was sent a bill for $50 due to a broken appointment. The practice is worse than a used car sales lot Do not go there ... Better to take pliers out of the garage and pull your own teeth Went for my initial appointment today and the lady who took my X-rays was Nice and it was her first day at the practice. The equipment is old so it took her almost 30 X-rays to cover all the teeth Waited 20 minutes before the dentist comes in and talks right away about crowns , bridges ETC ( big ticket item) She also wanted to put a bridge on a missing tooth which was removed 15 years ago and is not troubling me at all The WORST was the dental hygienist who comes in looks at the X-ray ( just to let you know so far no one has looked at my actual teeth ( not the teck, dentist or the hygienist ) in 30 seconds of looking at my X-ray she wants to do deep cleaning I go to a dentist every 6 months and needed a new dentist as my old one is moving So after spending two hours at this practice where no one has even looked at my teeth they want to put in 2 crowns @1000 each plus the brilliant 1 year or less experienced dental hygienist wants 400 for deep cleaning This was a routine visit to find a dentist and you come out with a 2400 dollar bill Seriously ...... read more

This place is awful. It deserves 0 stars. Do not take your children or yourself here. They are inconsiderate and do not listen to parents regarding their frightened children. We waited 45 minutes past our appt time for them to tell me they would not do exam because my 4yo son had a runny nose and said he was sick (he has allergies) and told us to reschedule for 2 months out. Prior to making my appointment I specifically asked if they had payment options other than Care Credit. I was informed that they do so I set up an appointment. After I wasted an hour or more in the office and after they took my payment for my visit I was informed that they only do Care Credit and they do not have any other payment options. It was extremely frustrating to see if you lack of care and knowledge in this facility. Before they take your money and give you miss information I would look into other options. New Patients Beware: We made an appointment and kept our kids home from school to go. When we arrived we were told our appointment was cancelled because they never got a phone confirmation. It turns out that even though I gave them my number 3 times when we booked they had a number wrong. They messed up and we paid the price. To make matters worse the receptionist/office manager (yes you read that correctly) was rude as can be, slamming down the clipboard with paperwork and saying they will see us when they can. The dentist may be great (we wouldn't know) but when it came to our family, the Riverview office was incompetent and rude. read more

Please always read the reviews of this place before you step into this place. I wish I had done that. This place is a scam. I just wanted to have normal cleaning done as I have had it done for almost 35 years, twice a year. I moved in this area and I needed normal cleaning. I called this place for appointment for cleaning and they said on my first visit, they will take the X-Ray of the mouth (18 X-Ray) and examine them to determine the health of the teeth and treatment. For the cleaning, I will have to take other appointment which was scheduled next day. On my first visit, the dental assistant took X-Rays and after a while dentist looked at X-Rays and examined the teeth and they both go away. After a while dental assistant came back with the treatment plan for deep cleaning for both sides of my mouth which would cost about $400 each which I was never diagnosed in my previous visits to my dentist for so long. And I told them so. She also gave me the couple options for one of my missing tooth which would cost me $1600 to $3900. Next day in my visit for cleaning the hygienist wanted to start with deep cleaning which would cost me out of pocket. I told her that I was there for regular cleaning and I never have problem with that. She refused to do the normal cleaning without having deep cleaning done. I told her I am not paying anything out of my pocket. She said let me see the office manager. She went out and came back. She examined and measure the pocket depth for all teeth wit dental assistant try to convince me of deep cleaning. I told her to do the normal cleaning, but she refused to it. After that I walked out of the chair if she didn't want to do what the customer wants. So they want to do the procedures which may not be required and make money for them. On the way out I saw the office manager and asked for my X-Rays. She said they can e-mail directly to other dental office OR can give me copy but would cost me $45. This is another scam. I said they are already paid by insurance and why could not she give me. She said that was the policy. I asked for seeing policy. She obviously do not have written policy. So stay away from this place unless you have money to throw away. read more

The administrative staff didn't bother to find out what my dental insurance actually covered or what my copays would be despite me asking every time I went. They assured me that the work I was having done was covered. Three months later I got a bill for 600 dollars. I went into the office to try and straighten out the bill. Was able to get 50 dollars removed for services I hadn't agreed to. Ended up having to pay 550 for the rest. That in itself is a problem. But the really BIG problem was that they were exceedingly rude to me the whole time. The lady at the desk was dismissive and basically wanted me to leave without resolving it. I was persistent, so finally she throws down a folder on her desk and says "okay I'll drop what Im doing to solve your little problem"... The dentist walked out and asked me "I hear you'll be leaving us?" I hadn't said anything of the sort at that point... Anyhow.. she was terribly condescending and curt.. maybe one of the rudest people I've dealt with at any doctor or dentist. I will say that the dental techs were awesome though... But I would certainly not recommend this place to anyone. After reading many other reviews, I am also now worried I have a mouth full of fillings that I didnt have to get. read more

Went here for my dental work and had horrible experience. I'm 28 and have NEVER had a problem with a dentist. This guy is rough, uncaring and does not pay attention. I got way too many shots that didn't work. I also had to come back for extra unneeded work. Furthermore, the staff talks about their customers at the front desk AND in the back. They are very unprofessional and pretend to care. I thought I'd try again with my son on their kids days (because there was a different dentist for kids) and ended up waiting an hour past my appointment time. they have 9 chairs in the waiting room and had 15 people waiting. Smile Design is awful. Started with them after my other dentist didn't take my insurance. I went for a filling and they overcharged me and had to reimburse me when I went in the second time to have a crown re-cemented. The third time I was supposed to get an exam and cleaning but the only exam I got was a scam exam from the dental hygienist who said I need periodontal deep cleanings every 3 months, just after the previous dentist I had 6 months ago told me I had "very healthy gums". The dentist said he had no reason to disbelieve her, yet he didn't even look at one tooth or my gums. This was in the Port Charlotte, Florida office. If this wasn't an obvious scam hitting you in the face, I don't know what is. These hygienist don't make money on regular cleanings, so they pad their pockets scamming you into deep cleanings you don't need. I don't know who to report these kind of scams to but this shouldn't be happening and they should be held accountable for their lies. My advice is to stay away from Smile Design, Coast Dental and Aspen Dental. All three are unethical dental practices. read more

I was in search of a new dentist and decided to try them because I saw a coupon in a flyer. Let's just say you get what you pay for. The place was dirty and the staff didn't have knowledge of basic dental procedures. They started my appointment by taking xrays. They did put an apron on me but the technician and the other women she was training both stayed in the room without them. That is completely unsafe because of the radiation levels. Then the dentist came in she told me to open my mouth and stated that I had great gums. She then proceeded to take them sprayed two puffs of air on my back teeth and then told me we were done. She didn't look at my teeth or use any other tools. I asked if she looked at my xrays and she said oh ya I can see then even though they were across the room. She left and then I was given a price sheet that included a 160 cleaning because they said I had tarter under my gyms. I am sorry but the dentist just complemented my gums. I have never had issues with tartar and have went to the dentist every 6 months my entire life and have never needed a specialty cleaning. They also recommended me use a chlorahexadine mouth wash even though I listed it as an allergy and told the dental assistant and dentist about it. Worse experience and would never, ever, step foot into that place again. It was a complete waste of money and time... read more

I went to this location because I moved. I originally went to the new Tampa location and loved it. My first visit, I'm told I had 3 cavities. I'm 29 and has always been told my teeth were beautiful, and I've never had a cavity my entire life. I went with what the dentist told me, researched the process and had them filled. I had to schedule another appointment to have my teeth cleaned, which wasn't told to me over tue phone when originally calling. Needless to say, when I came back the following week, I was still having a pain that prevented me from eating or drinking on the left side of my mouth. I mentioned this to the lady in the front and was told the dentist may have to fix it. I mentioned it again to the hygienist and she reviewed my X-rays to try to see what was going on, but long behold.....she couldn't see any of the 3 cavities on my X-rays. She went to talk to the dentist so my problem could be fixed and her response to me was, "you signed a paper stating all the possible problems." My issue is, the front staff, the hygienist, and my research all said that it could be asimole fix, but the dentist refused to come from the back to see me. I had an appointment for my son at 8:00 we arrived at 7:40 and the receptionist told me that some of the employees didn't show up so they were running behind schedule. He finally got called back at 8:45. The dentist was so rude!! My son asked for me to be with him for his x-rays because he always gets sick afterwards. They told me I couldn't be with him ( Even if I stepped out of the room while the x-ray machine was on.) I told them my son needed me with him to ease his anxiety. They told me I would have to find a new dentist and told my son to get out of the chair. On the way out I told the front desk to make sure they didn't bill my insurance for a cleaning because they didn't do one she said " I do all the billing and it is always right!" Such rude people!! Visited in Feb 2015 with grandson. Should have known something not quite right when I noticed a dental assistant setting up a tray, dropped an instrument on the floor, picked it up and set it on the tray anyway. Very dirty, small office in small shopping center. We were there for first visit for an extraction of a baby tooth. We were told needed a spacer so a mold had to be done first. After x-rays, also told tooth behind the one to be extracted had a cavity and would need to be filled, could do all at the same time (it's another baby tooth). Assistant came to make the mold, and made the mold for the wrong portion of the mouth. When asked why making mold of that part of the mouth, assistant said, "oops!". She removed the mold from his mouth and pinched it together rendering it useless. Next, she went "looking" for another tray to make the correct mold. BTW - the equipment is OLD, instruments/tools/supplies sit around in those rollable plastic drawers you can get at any Walmart. There is no water available for the patients to spit into or for the dentist to rinse out the mouth. Poor grandson was left with chunks of putty from the molds in his mouth. He was given a kleenex to wipe it out. By now, I am sure we are NEVER coming back here. The estimated bill was going to be $811.00, insurance would cover $361 and we would pay $89.50 with the rest being waived. Bottom line, ended up at Dr. G. Copeland a few days later. Tooth was extracted on same visit, NO SPACER was required, and the baby tooth behind did not need a filling after all. Like this office told me, the baby tooth with the small indication of a new cavity would fall out within a short time, why fill it? read more

FRAUDULENT BILLING PRACTICES: My wife and I had been going to this office for the past two years. On 18 Apr, the billing office erroneously charged my wife for a service not rendered (fluoride treatment). When I pointed out THEIR error (and the hygienist confirmed), they agreed to credit our cc. After two months went by with numerous phone calls to the office, they still had not issued the credit for THEIR BILLING ERROR. After I disputed the charge with my cc, Smile Design finally issued the credit of $30 on 13 Jun 2016. So my wife shows up on 19 Dec for a scheduled prophy and they began hassling her over the same issue (saying we still owed $30 for a fluoride treatment which they DID NOT administer back on 18 Apr). After explaining I had already spoke to the Regional Director (Angel Blackmon) back in Jun who finally issued the credit they still argued the point. When I asked for the office manager's supervisor and phone number, she refused to provide. The office manager (Diana) also refused to provide her last name and hung up the phone. Any business officer manager that refuses to provide their full name, as well as the name of a supervisor and contact information, is disreputable. I've already made a verbal complaint to our insurance company. Written complaints to our insurance company and the BBB to follow. Less than a whole star! Diana the office manager and her accompliace working both 9/27 and 9/29/2016 in the filthy Riverview office were not at all professional. I don't know if their company trains them to make up policies as they go along or advocates it but, against better judgement, I feel for the whole Summer Deal 59 dollars for xrays, comprehensive exam and cleaning (periodontal extra) and although Diana denies it I had appointments for all 6 family members. One of us received a cleaning. Jacob but, that was after they the dental tech pulled his baby tooth without my consent!! They were going to charge me 197 for xrays and exam because I had insurance, claiming the deal was only for the uninsured. No one told me that and the ad did not read that way, it didn't even say you had to mention the ad when coming in. So, long story short....bullys, lies, fraudulent insurance claims, filthy, rotten, eating food at the front desk while speaking to customers. This whole practice is a sham!!!! You have to hold to your guns or they will steam roll you for everything you got!! Don't trust them!!! Get references for any Dentist from now on is the lesson learned as well as you have to stand up to them for me I lost 144 bucks that day! read more
