I have been wanting to start my clear aligner journey for a while now, but have always been so hesitant because Invisalign was personally out of my budget. I then discovered Smile Direct Club a few months ago & it seemed like a way better option for me. I was so excited to go to my first free 30-minute scan & honestly, it went a lot better than I expected! Nermin took care of me & he was the sweetest! He explained everything very well & left me feeling way more confident in my smile & the progress it could make. I then waited 72 hours to hear back from them. I encountered some complications with my own personal dentist so it took me a while to actually start my treatment with Smile Direct, but I finally went back today to get a re-scan & to my surprise, Nermin took care of me again! Very professional & clean. I've read thousands of mixed reviews on Smile Direct Club, but at the end of the day, everyone's smile is different & the way the treatment goes varies for different groups of people. Some have positive outcomes & some don't, that's just how it is. I'm confident that if I follow my treatment plan to the tea, I'll see great results I can't wait to receive my first set of aligners! So i made an appt here at 530 pm. I had endless text reminders throughout the day. Finding street parking is a little tricky but they do have parking validation at the whole foods building. There wasn't any one at the desk when i arrived but there was another patron sitting and waiting so i just sat down next to him. 10 minutes passed, someone came to get him and ask me to check in on an ipad. After checking in, no one came to check on me. I guess someone forgot what they were doing because at 630 another employee told me they were closed now. I was pretty upset so they squeezed me in and did a scan. I ended up leaving at 745. A simple appt turned into a long process. This is my 2nd time doing a refinement. These scans must not be as good as they claim to be because my aligners never fit correctly. I'm going to wait till the end of this cycle to do a review on the smile direct site but in the mean time, this location needs to get it together. read more

Smile Direct Club documented that they will both align my center line and correct my bite to allow veneers to be attached. My assigned dentist, Brian Nelson, DDS...LOCATED IN ARIZONA...stated that the latter will not happen, and Smile Direct Club's smile "expert" stated that my current plan will not align my center line. I endured 12 sets of aligners over 3 months and am now in my 6th of 9 sets of my second set of ALIGNERS and have agreed to see what happens at the end of my 9th set. I texted Dr. Nelson this morning: Good morning, Brian. I just switched to Aligner 6 and still feel my teeth touching...underbite. As we discussed, I'll continue with the new set of aligners and see if my bite is corrected...as Smile Direct Club promised. Alright! So.. I cannot speak for the liners themselves (I have not decided if I am going to purchase or not), but this review is based solely on my experience with my appointment and 3D scan with Smile Direct. To be COMPLETELY honest... I feel bad for everyone in here who had a lousy experience or terrible customer service rep. For me it was totally different: it was quick, I didn't feel rushed or pressured to buy anything, and I had all my questions answered (shout out to Ta'Tiana!!). The scan was actually really cool to watch: I got to see all the ins and outs of my teeth and watch the computer program build a three dimensional model of all of my teeth/molars. The procedure wasn't uncomfortable or painful at all, and everything was sanitary (I made sure to watch her take out all new and wrapped tools to use for the scan). The only complaint I would have is it was a bit confusing to find the place, I walked in to what seemed like a cafeteria/snack room, but the man at the front immediately noticed my confusion and helped point me to the right direction. Overall, I got a free teeth whitening kit, and actually left feeling really knowledgeable about the whole experience. I'll be sure to update if I decide to get the teeth aligners, but that being said if you are on the fence about Smile Direct, I say just go and check it out for yourself! read more

Since there's not a lot of information about this company I'd like to share my experience with Smile Direct Club. The place is a bit hard to find but not too much. The employees there were friendly. It felt a bit like they were eager for me to sign which is strange because I already made the decision I wanted to proceed with the service so I didn't need their eagerness. Overall very positive experience for a young independent person. Smile Direct Club is better than traditional Invisalign if you don't trust your current dentist, If you want to save a ton of money, and if your teeth aren't too messed up (so like minor adjustments). They took a 3D scan of my teeth which came out perfectly and I can access the images online at any time to see the progress. It makes sense that their product is cost effective because there are little overhead costs. The product itself is not made cheaply and it actually comes with a bunch of stuff like tooth whitening, mints, and a nice case for your teeth. They all come at once, which is a benefit in my opinion. My sister who has Invisalign ended up giving up on it because she couldn't make it back to the dentist and they kept messing up her retainers. It's a great product at a great price. Now I'll have to see if it works in a couple of months when I'm done. read more

1/3 of my aligners have had manufacturing defects and their CSRs are unwilling to 1. expedite my shipping, 2. offer any kind of refund, 3. offer any kind of compensation for their errors and the trouble, inconvenience, and pain they have caused me. My treatment is now going to take an additional 4 to 5 weeks and that assumes that my final 3 aligners aren't also defective. I went in for a consultation, but after reading reviews online about smile direct club and realizing that there's a class action lawsuit because smile direct club has caused hundreds of people to have serious dental issues, I decided to go with Invisalign as my retainer/clear aligner company. I called SDC and let them know less than 72 hours after my appointment, but was still charged a down payment of $250 a day after I called to cancel the service. It's been over a week and a half and they have yet to remove the charge despite saying they have every time I've called (I've called three times since). I'm very disappointed in Smile direct club and advise everyone reading reviews to go with another provider like Invisalign or an orthodontist in your area. read more

I have tried to get Smile Direct to respond to my issues with no results. After waiting the several weeks for the initial box of aligners to be sent, it finally came and I was ecstatic. Unfortunately, there had been an error and they didn't fit, completely wrong. Mistakes happen and I began calling. After numerous phone calls and emails and pictures and weeks, finally someone apologized and promised a replacement box would be right out. Weeks later, I received a replacement that covered it be month, I assumed the rest were on their way. After a few weeks and nothing arriving, I called again. At this point I was told that once again it would be several weeks before my next aligners would be sent. I continuously asked why I was paying the same as my friends who had no issues and were happily wearing their aligners, if there was anything that could be done to expedite my order, if there was any process for filing a complaint. I was promised that my new aligners would be ordered and that a supervisor would be calling within 24-48 hours, that was 5 days ago and I have not received a phone call or an update. Monumental waste of time and extremely unprofessional, they will blow up ur phone with texts but when you call to communicate a delay multiple times no one will answer. I was the first appointment at 8am got there at 8:12, no one was at the desk then some kid walks out several minutes later telling me I'm too late and he has to grab the 8:30 appointment who just literally walked in. The clock stated 8:15. It's not even a real office guys it's like a glorified cubicle the nerve of these people. Glad I didn't add my credit card. I ordered aligners and tried the first two sets. They cut up the sides of my mouth and tongue. I did everything they suggested with filing them down and buying braces wax, and nothing helped. I asked for a refund. They told me I could either send the big box back or destroy them and send pictures through the app as proof. I sent pictures. Over a month later, I still have no refund. Every time I call, the person gives me the run-around then simply mutes themselves. They don't hang up on me, they just stop talking. I believe they do that because after the call, if they disconnect, I'm supposed to get a survey. If I hang up, no survey. It's a crooked business and I would definitely not recommend them to anyone. read more

(the rep that commented on my post). SDC is remaking my retainers (2 sets) at no cost to me and compensated me for my time and trouble. I am very impressed. As I stated at the beginning of my review I had positive results after using their aligners for six months and all I wanted to do is continue on so that I don't loose the progress made. I am going to get back on track now and I am excited about that. Thank you to Emily and Devon with Smile Direct Club for recognizing the problem and fixing it. Lakerrius's sales pitch was too strong (I'm in retail myself) and towards the end of the appointment I was immediately told to pull up my yelp account and the sales rep hit 5 stars for me then looked over my initial review before she hit post... I didn't like that, I felt it being forced. The money commitment came immediately and I understand why some people might not like that since this was dubbed a free consultation and that can come off as implicit of you can also take your time with the decision however this wasn't the case. I like to keep things honest for those interested in the services of this company so until further update please keep in mind this review is only from the experience of someone who went trough the initial consultation. Ordered a impression kit that I've been waiting 2 weeks for. Got a notification is was delivered but to a address in TN. When I live in Illinois! Called and asked and they said my billing address wasn't valid and that UPS sent it back to their facility. As of today I got a email saying they received my impression kit and the pictures of my smile and that my aligners would be on their way when I haven't even gotten my impression kit yet. Called and asked for a refund. They told me it wasn't in their hands and to contact UPS about a reimbursement of my money. I told them that I had paid them directly on their website and that it was up to them to fix it. The woman I spoke to insisted that it was up to UPS. So I hung up on her. Not very helpful. I called and cancelled after having my scan done and the customer service rep confirmed that my account was closed and I would not be charged. Then, I was charged $250 the day after. When I called back I was told they would put in a request for a refund and someone would contact me within 10 days. No promise of a refund, just being jerked around. They say they need a credit card on file in case you miss your appointment but really it's so they can charge you after you try to cancel and make it hard to contact anyone who can actually help. So I have had to now have 3 mid course corrections for my aligners from Smile Direct Club. I "finished" my course in July 2017 and my bottom teeth - only 5 they have been working on since I signed up- are still not straight. I have now been doing this for 8 months- it was supposed to take 3. This is a pretty straight forward job and I had to go back again in August and have another 3D rescan/mid course correction. Again- in Customer Service I cant speak to the same person twice- there are so many people in customer service who have no idea what on earth is happening all you do is repeat yourself and everyone is SORRY. I am suppose to have some guy named Shelby who is apparently a manager now watching my case and ensuring this works, but have not heard from him once since my screening and the aligners have come and again they don't fit. I also never recieved an updated PDF showing how this was going to be corrected. The original PDF is not how my teeth ended up and was inaccurate. To date I have had 4 managers say they are watching this, managing this, will follow up and fix and none have. The 3D scan I had 3 weeks ago clearly didn't do what it was supposed to. So I am about to start the process to demand a refund. What can I say...if you cut the cost you will see the results. Wow never read the reviews before i went because my referral had such a great experience. My experience was a bit awkward Ok so i made an appointment at this location it's close to my job super convenient. They do need instructions on how to actually find them, that was a bit difficult. When you get off the elevator there's not many signs or anything to read to give you an idea where to go, but there is a door. So whatever; i walk in and ask a woman behind a counter if i was at the right place. She asks what company and i tell her. She then points me to someone who's sitting down, and that person walks me into the actual smile direct club office. I then get seated in a little area where a woman comes by and introduces herself as Magdalena i believe her name was. She was a bit awkward with the experience but overall it was nice. It was definitely a huge sales pitch, which i was pretty annoyed by. I couldn't really get my point across without her repeating the options making it seem like i had no option but to continue with the aligners. She then called another woman for a "second scan" as they call it. Which in sales is when you have someone else again pressure you and talk to you as to why you don't want to continue with the purchase. she on the other hand was very friendly, as i explained to her i only came in to get a feel for the product and pricing. After that was done she said my scan would be good for 90 days. They gave me a free whitening kit and i left. I now am receiving emails to order my aligners. I also get to look at the 3D model of my teeth and it's progress. I'm no where near an orthodontist but the progress video scared me a bit. It almost looked as if my teeth were going to look a little better... but then the more i looked at side views it was almost as if my teeth were going to look worse? I'm confused. Still debating.... Honestly I love my progress with smile direct club so far!! I went to the physical location and got scanned because I didn't trust myself to do the molds correctly. The whole process was easy and it did take a few weeks for them to finish making my first set and getting them to me but after that they've been pretty good about sending them about two weeks or so ahead of time for the subsequent month. As for my teeth- I find they are moving in the right direction and I feel like I'm pretty much on track for my final smile! I'm currently in month 3/8 and feel like things are going well! Definitely will update closer to month 8 to see if my teeth are indeed straight. Also pro tip- if the trays are hurting ur teeth or digging into your gums or are sharp- take a pair of tiny tiny scissors and trim around the material and file it down with the nail file type thing they send you! Problem solved and happy gums and cheeks! As for cleaning them- I use my electric toothbrush and water and soap. I also bought a special orthodontic soak from Amazon that dissolves in water that I find makes them nice and shiny and new looking again as well read more

The visit was good but kind of awkward. I came into the smile shop for an 8am appointment. It's in a Wework office and there wasn't anyone to show me where to go. I had to call their customer service number to contact the local office. Laketrius took my impressions. That part was easy and fast. The whole appointment was definitely a sales pitch but she was friendly. It felt rushed like I was meant to start today even though I didn't discuss my case with anyone. I told her I'd rather wait until someone contacted me about how this process will go to decide on a payment. She gave me a teeth whitening kit, said that customer service will contact me, and said have a good day. I said thank you and walked myself out. There wasn't any synergy and the whole time I was uncomfortable cause it felt forced. I'll see how the rest of the this process goes but I'm pretty skeptical. read more

My issue is with Smile Direct Club at the corporate level, not the downtown location. They were great as was my experience with the aligners. However, my experience with the retainers has been an EPIC FAIL. Their customer service is some of the worst and quite frankly utterly incompetent. It took MONTHS to get my first set of retainers. They failed to ship them not once, not twice, but THREE times. By the time I received them, my teeth had already begun to shift. Same thing happened when I tried to order more retainers. The offer was 3 sets for $99. They failed to ship and when I reported that I never got them, the refused to honor the sale price. When I finally got them, they didn't even fit! Now, I need to go back and have aligners again and they refuse to waive the charge or even reduce it. They are blaming me for not using new retainers every 6 months when I can't even get them to ship in 6 months!!! Their "lifetime guarantee" is a complete racket. Don't fall for this nonsense. I have had the worst experience with smile direct club. I was so excited to fix my smile. I received the kit earlier than expected and things were going well for 5 months until month 6 didn't fit at all. They started creating weird gaps in my teeth that didn't close. I was very unhappy. I spoke to several people, phone calls and emails and I was given the run around. My ending retainer came in that I said before didn't fit because month 6 didn't fit. Not only did they not listen to me they sent a retainer that was broken and warped. I took them to a smile direct store and had my smile scanned again to get a few more months on the aligners so I could love my smile. That took SEVERAL months to get in the mail. The new retainers were going well until the next months set started creating a big gap on my bottom teeth. I finished the month and the gap never closed so I went back a few months to the smile I liked the best. Now again I have contacted servers people and each time it's ALWAY WITH SOMEONE ELSE! They told me that I couldn't chose which aligners I wanted to be my retainers and I lost it a bit. I am the customer and have had a terrible experience which should be fixed. no one knows what's going on. The customer service is a joke. I would like my money back but that won't happen so I'm stuck with an okay smile and less money. I would not recommend them to anyone! read more

The space is very cool full of small salon like shops. At the small direct waiting room I was greeted right away handed an iPad to register. Buyer beware. I was trying to straighten out lower front teeth. Nothing too complicated. Had scan and aligners received. about 5 weeks later, After six-months lower teeth are much better (although not entirely straight) but I now have new, very unsightly gaps in my upper teeth. Looks like I have missing teeth! My bite is way off. I have been wearing my last aligners from two months now.... and it looks like I'll be wearing them for God know how much longer until I receive new set to correct defect SDC created. Was told by one rep that final retainers would fix that problem. I didn't really buy that explanation . Called back a week later and was told retainers were "on the way". Called week after. Nope. They never shipped. They were never made. They just straight up lied to me. Last rep said final retainers would not fix new gaps and that I'd need new set of aligners. They twice lost pics I sent them. So now I wait.... Did new impressions few weeks ago... Where I live, a large local Orthodontist practice is offering Invisalign for just under $3K. Had that been available when I started all this with SDC, the extra $1k -to have an actual orthodontist be responsible- would have been well worth the extra cost. I would discourage people from pursuing this options (and all low cost, online, no-orthodontist-involved aligner companies) . If it goes well you're fine , but if it doesn't you don't really have very little to fall back on. Reading many reviews it is obvious they give many people the runaround on a regular basis. With my personal SDC experience, I have no idea how there can be bad customer service reviews!! This was one of my concerns when I personally looked up reviews. I have had nothing but good experiences. When there has been mishaps, everyone has been helpful. Even in instances when SDC was not at fault, they were willing to step in financially. I don't think I have ever experienced any customer service like this. I worked with DJ, Aaron, and Alex specifically. If someone pisses you off, ask for them! They definitely get 5 stars. As for my results. This is why I gave 4 stars. Today is actually my last day of my last trays. I know SDC will give me options to move forward but I will probably still consult an orthodontist just to get a second opinion. I am a perfectionist. Everyone else think my teeth look amazing. They are absolutely straighter then before...and they weren't that bad before. I specifically want to fix my "buck teeth" which may need wire again. The whitening gel that came with the product works well and I have only had sensitivity once. I didn't have to use it as much as suggested so this might play a factor. I wish I could give zero stars. I signed up and referred several people and life was great until my puppy got chewed up my month 2 week 3/4 aligner at the end of March. I immediately called, ordered and paid for my replacement. The replacement is $100 by the way, in case you're wondering. I couldn't find that info anywhere before I signed up. A few weeks later I got a package with my entire month 1 set of aligners, not what I ordered. I called and the CSR was very apologetic and said they would put a rush order on the replacement, and that I should have a tracking number in three days. That was April. It's now the middle of June and I have no aligner replacement yet. When I call I get a very vague statement "we can see the order but nothing else." I finally got an email that said that they were on their way and I replied back asking for the tracking information and was told that there isn't any, which means that they aren't actually done and shipping and the whole process needs to be restarted. I'm a month away from my scheduled done time and haven't had an aligner to use for almost three months. I've yet to get a satisfactory excuse as to why. Buyer beware. And SDC - rest assured I will post this on EVERY review site I can so people considering your service will think otherwise. This is inexcusable and robbery, to be quite frank. My experience visiting the shop was great. It took about an hour and twenty minutes, because they were short-staffed. But, the staff-member with whom I dealt was outstanding. She was pleasant, helpful and fun. I paid the down payment and received notification that they are working on my first set of aligners. They should arrive in 4-5 weeks. I am very disappointed in Smile Direct. I had a great experience at the Baybrook location where I had my initial visit. I received my box and the second week aligner package had 2 top aligners. I called March 7 and was told I would have replacements in 10-14 days. It has now been 2 months and still no aligners. I have called, emailed, and live chatted with numerous people all are very nice but I have not received the missing aligner. My suggestion is not to pay in full at least you could withhold payment until you receive the correct product. This has not been a good experience for me!! read more

I received my box of aligners and for 9 weeks everything was going great until I received my final set of retainers. They came to me unfinished, with so much excess material all around the entire retainer that I was unable to put them in my mouth. After an aggravating number of phone calls, another set of unfinished retainers were sent, more annoying customer service phone calls, then I had to go back for a new scan for an adjustment set of aligners since my teeth had shifted and guess what... they were not finished either!! I cannot put any of these in my mouth because there is so much additional material that needs to be cut down. The crevices are extremely small and narrow and the material of the retainers is very hard, its impossible with a regular scissors or even a nail scissors or trimmer. Finally I spoke with another manager who said they are using a new lab for finishing and no longer using a laser cutter. BINGO. There are youtube videos that show there are special tools to do this job, including dental trimming burs, rotary tool and polishing wheel. It doesn't appear that the new lab is using any of these tools, they are simply cutting the retainers leaving a good 1/8-1/4 of an inch of excess material completely around the retainer and shipping them out. If Smile Direct wants to cut costs they should ship a set of tools to make finishing the retainers easier. A nail file isn't going to *cut it*. read more
