Also, with the 114th anniversary of the Titanic approaching, I figured I should learn more about the disaster's one of the most prominent survivors. My tour guide (Eli) was very informative and they talked about a lot of the inticracies of the house that I wouldn't have noticed if I had wandered around the house by myself, including details about the staircase and the method of constructing it, the wallpaper, stained glass, etc. I was particularly fascinated by how Margaret Brown leveraged her high profile status as a Titanic wreck survivor to fight for various causes such as women's suffrage, who she really was behind the legend of "Molly Brown," and the history of the house after its sale (how it became a group home for girls, and their antics of painting the lions up front and throwing things at the people passing by on the sidewalk). Definitely grateful for Eli's expertise -- shows they're really passionate about passing down the local history to the community and beyond. I left with more knowledge than I expected to learn. Thank you Eli! It was also great that the house itself contained a good number of original pieces of the house from back in the 1910s, which isn't always the case with historical houses. There was also a little back room that had original pieces from the White Star Line so people could see the plates and other things that passengers on the Titanic would have used, as well as a super detailed model of the ship itself. Will definitely be recommending this tour for anyone who plans to go to Denver.

I brought my whole family and it was enjoyable for all ages from 12 to 77- There is a bit of walking and standing but some chances to sit down. Totally more interesting than walking around the area without information. The fun part (all of it is fun) was going inside Union Station and hearing the history that has been glossed over by historians trying to attract visitors to Denver. As the tour progresses, it gets better and better. By the time we exited Union Station, it was dark and the area was lit up with people enjoying the beautiful evening- you see pedicabs and bicycles, lit buildings and a fountain with lights in addition to the story weaver guide. This is the authentic tour to take.

I fact-checked several of the "events" highlighted on the tour. All ghost stories set aside, some…read moreof the historical events were factually wrong, had no documented evidence, or were just made up. The one exception was the Chinatown massacre; but there was a meaningful historical omission: how local white-owned businesses and residents hid and protected over 100 Chinese people during that riot. The entire narration was full of Marxist-ish moral evaluations that were truly eyerolling. The real facts of Denver history in its full context (and, yes, the fun and eerie ghostly aftermath) are fascinating on their own. Falsehoods and innuendo are actually quite boring.

Meeting Graham, a local artist, was an unexpected and amazing highlight that made the tour feel even more special. What stayed with me most was how the tour revealed Denver as a city filled with creativity, history, culture, and wonderful people. There are three tours run by this company: the classic tour, the RiNo North tour, and the happy…read morehour tour. In order to cover as much ground as possible, I scheduled the RiNo North tour (covers north side) and the happy hour tour (supposedly covers much of what the classic tour covers). Randy was my guide, and was a laid back, knowledgeable guy. I fancy myself a bit of a street art connoisseur and think I could have done a lot of this on my own if I had done some planning, but Randy did offer a lot of info I didn't know about the art community in Denver and various street art terms I wasn't familiar with. We made a brief stop during the North tour for bathroom and drink breaks. For the happy hour tour, you're supposed to stop at a brewery, but I was the only one on the tour, so Randy and I opted to keep checking out art instead of stopping. Once I started posting on instagram, I consulted the pages they provide so you can credit the artists. Looking through those pages for all three tours, I really think the original gives you the most bang for your buck. If I could do it over, I would have just scheduled that one, then spread out on my own. Tours are around 32 bucks each. You can only book them if at least two people have booked, which is the minimum. I got the solo happy hour tour because I booked two tickets (I'm an anxious planner and was willing to pay extra to have it locked in on my schedule). Each tour covers about two miles and lasts around two hours. Worthwhile tour where you'll see some great street art, learn about the Denver art community, and get to know more about the town itself.

We chose "Cotswolds in Comfort" which was 6 days and we couldn't have been happier with our experience. And everything was so interesting and gorgeous. Yes, it rained on the first day and we walked through a lot of mud. Macs Adventure can't control that, but the other stuff that they could manage, went off almost flawlessly. That included excellent accommodations, efficient luggage transfer, pre-trip information, and a walking app that kept us on our paths and never lost. Actually, we did wander off once to avoid mud, and the app did show us where we could get back on path. We're now talking about where our next Macs Adventure walking tour might be. France? Germany? What a great experience! the inns we stayed were very nice, made lunch for us daily, and the drivers who met us at the train, then took our bags to next inn were fun to talk with, regarding local attractions. Colorado Sightseer has a variety of tours listed on their website. We chose the Blue Sky Mountain…read moreSummit Tour (fka Mount Evans) which is one of 58 14'ers (that's what they call mountains over 14,000 feet) in Colorado. The tour is a full day, leaving around 8 am from Union Station and arriving back around 430 pm in the afternoon. The tour van is quite comfortable and has three rows of seating in addition to a front passenger seat. I would say that the level of difficulty of the walking portion of the tour is not high, but the summit trail does require a bit of stamina and the air is a bit thinner up there, so you may be unaccustomed to it (more about this below). The other trails at Summit Lake (at 12, 800 ft) and Mount Goliath Natural Area are pretty flat (there are steps down to the lake). After leaving Denver city proper for the mountains, the tour stops for about 30-45 minutes at Mount Goliath visitor station, which has a small visitor center and a roundabout mini trail. What's truly amazing are the extremely old Bristlecone Pine trees, both living and beautifully sculpted old trunks (apparently some are 1500 years old). The trail is right on the tree line where the trees begin to dissipate, apparently because of the extreme winds that befall the mountain sides. Along the way is a very beautiful alpine lake (I can't recall the name). The tour stops for a few minutes (and there's a restroom). Next, the tour van proceeds rather gingerly up a (what some would call harrowing) two lane "paved" road claimed to be the highest in North America. Now, this road starts off all fine and well but proceeds to get more windy and twisty and the shoulders all but disappear with rather large drops just to the side. But we didn't fear, or closed our eyes if needed, because our driver, Emily, was at the wheel and expertly navigated the road, while providing very interesting facts and history along the way. Finally, we reached the summit of Mount Blue Sky. There's a parking lot and a final walking path that winds up to the peak of the mountain, 14,264 feet in elevation. The path is not difficult and there are no steep parts, but there are loose rocks and narrow portions. I did notice that some people had a bit of difficulty with it, but for most, it was very doable. In fact, a cane would be kind of fun to have with you. Once you get to the peak, it's for many a once in a lifetime experience. I mean how many people get to stand on a mountain this high? Luckily, it was a gorgeous day, and the temp was low 60s (it was upper 80s in downtown Denver) and clear enough to see the Denver skyline way, way off in the distance with binoculars. Our guide kept warning us that storms can form suddenly and to be on the lookout. Also, the temp drops quite a bit, so bring something warm, depending on the time of year. There is also wildlife along the tour and I gather that it depends on the day what you'll see. We caught amazing close up views of white-coated mountain goats, adults and cute little ones. In fact, I almost thought one of them would come up to the open door of the van. We didn't see any big horn sheep, but we did spot many marmots, which look like a mountain cousins of the beaver. The last stop was for a late lunch in Idaho Springs, which boasts itself as an old, scenic mining town. There were a few decent places for lunch along a strip closed off for walking, and stores for browsing. Also, there's a museum at one end of the downtown but there was not enough time to visit. The ride back from Idaho Springs was about an hour, leaving you back at Union Station. All in all, the Colorado Sightseer Blue Sky Mountain Summit Tour was amazing! Our tour guide Emily was fantastic, providing a lot of information along the way (including about her life), and a skilled van driver (she had available extra water, snacks, and jackets). I highly recommend the tour for a full day adventure!
