As someone who is born and raised in Oakville, I can say that nowadays a good, honest, transparent…read moredentist is difficult to find in this town. Understanding the inconsistency of the dental industry is crucial, and it's a perspective that I believe needs to be shared. I acknowledge the knowledge of this dental team and the cleanliness of the office with its modern equipment. However, it's important to also consider the patient's perspective in order to bring about the necessary changes. My concern is the "cost to do business, authenticity and transparency." Here, you cannot get your teeth cleaned without a full consult from the dentist first, multiple costly photos (from all angles!) and xrays, and this consult isn't just a "let's check to see the general health of your teeth," which is what I would expect and nothing more unless I ASKED for it. I do not care if I have a narrow jaw at 54 years of age...I am not a child that needs, wants or asked for reparative measures. I take extreme care of my teeth, and it shows (photo attached). I do not need SPECULATORY advice on why my 2nd last two molars failed me - I explained that I know exactly why...one reason was I was severely lacking nutrients after the birth of my child and simultaneously had 3 front teeth crumble...yet this was ignored in order to have me explore myofascial correction options because it was maybe due to my narrow jaw. The other molar issue I had was because another dentist removed all the enamel from my molar and crowned it unnecessarily (made a great amount of $$$ off this!); pain and sensitivity got so intense I developed a condition called condensing osteitis and told NEXT I needed a root canal...I went to my dental surgeon and had the entire tooth extracted. Trust was lost. The dental industry needs correction and transparency--it's a big problem. No one should leave a dentist's office paying $654 out of pocket when their intent was to get their teeth cleaned, and they get them cleaned regularly every 8 months, yet be told there were issues and a multitude of costly photos and x-rays taken without so much as a discussion on the cost of these. I had just undergone dental surgery 10 days ago and explained the sensitivity of my mouth (an old root canal extraction done by my excellent dental surgeon, not this dentist). This fact was ignored, and I sat in a dental chair for 3 1/4 hours to get a talking to about my narrow jaw and cleaning that was so severe that I felt empathy was not a part of this dental practice. I am still sore all over my body from the tension and pain I experienced from the cleaning. So, to those reading this, I wrote this so you know exactly what you're getting into beforehand and to help with transparency & consistency within an industry that needs more of it. The dental industry needs a huge revamp.

3 years ago Dr. Bis had temporarily helped me solve my TMD and severely hypersensitive teeth - had…read morestopped my teeth from being in pain, and other holistic symptoms it caused. Her orthotic broke after just 3-4 days though, after it was adjusted enough over a 2-week period as she coaxed and allowed my jaw to relax by clearing the slides. It wasn't unexpected to her that it may break. She said it let her know position my jaw relaxed to, and could restart closer from that position. My only complaint with the prior orthotic was there was a lot of friction from the 13 upper right canine as it'd slide over the orthotic. She said the very worn down tooth, with a groove at its tip, was acting like a double-contact, creating 2 slide contact points when there should only be one. She offered to shave down the 13 to smooth it - and then she did to make it only have 1 slide contact point. We started the next orthotic attempt immediately after that. On the next attempt with her orthotic process, her designing-adjusting another for me, IT COULDN'T WORK: The excruciating pain of pressure on the 13 tooth screaming at me on its own was enough to prevent my jaw's guarding from releasing. PROBLEM 1: She refused to provide any referrals, to help me investigate that new excruciating 13 tooth pain - leaving me, a layperson, desperately scrambling in a much worse state looking for non-referred help. This caused serious problem and delays in care: dentists avoid seemingly complex cases, and referrals hold more weight than a random person showing up. Dr. Bis claimed fully that she didn't touch the 13 tooth - she had no doubt. She didn't remember shaving down my 13 tooth - but she did. PROBLEM 2: 3 years later Dr. Bis still doesn't seem to have basic respect nor good conscience to share with me or my mother what Tekscan or orthotic design course she took that she followed for the orthotic that worked for me - so then we could try to find another dentist to follow her seemingly unique process. And she still hasn't given a referral to any dentist - let alone one she knows could follow her process. She could have solved this hell I've been in long ago. She seems to hold a grudge against me either for her wrongly thinking I was falsely accusing her all these years, or perhaps from something she misinterpreted in an email I sent her in desperation 3 years ago - that she responded to years later when I asked for help again, saying it caused her "considerable stress". Her considerable stress she complained of is arguably nothing compared to the excruciating pain she left me in for 14 months until I struggled to find a dentist on my own to put a crown on the 13 - on my very worn down tooth that she wrongly decided was safe to shave down further. What I think would cause her more stress is realizing and acknowledging the state she left me in - and that she could still expedite my finding help, which she also isn't doing. I just realized I'm going to have to report Dr. Bis to her regulatory body as my next step, to the RCDSO - Royal College of Dental Surgeons Ontario - to share my story and her behaviour with them, and ask them to compel her to share the details needed - so I can hone my search to find a dentist who can accurately duplicate her orthotic process that worked for me 3 years ago. I'm not a malicious nor litigious person. My strong ideal is to voluntarily address and resolve issues. I understand people make mistakes, I've made mistakes - I've had to forgive others and myself. I understand people do their best to the best of their current ability - and mistakes are often how we grow, and often how we grow the most.
