Update: My son had an appointment today and needed to have impressions taken for a new retainer. He has had these done twice before and really struggled with it. He suffers from anxiety and, like a lot of people, the dentist can be a very nerve-wracking experience especially when receiving a service that he doesn't enjoy. Eyrusalem took the impressions today and did an absolutely phenomenal job. She kept him calm and distracted and had so much patience with. Because these people failed to accurately do my medical intake - I almost had a 5k dollar expenditure. I had been a patient at GHDP-Somerville for nearly 10 years. My first dentist was fantastic, he left. My second dentist, fantastic, he left. My subsequent dentists all mediocre to poor. I had a number of primary dentists here, so many changes to my service that I lost track of how many there were. The quality of hygienists, awful. Cleanings took longer stopped being comprehensive - my last cleaning I had to remind the hygienist they missed the entire bottom left of my mouth. The last... and I mean absolute last straw was my experience with Dr. Tsering DMD. I finally decided to move on. After my cleaning, they discovered I had a filling that had failed\broken and were intent on fixing it. As they started taking my blood pressure, I noted several times to the hygienist that they had my sleeve in the pressure cuff, so they weren't going to get an accurate response. I also insisted on them using a larger cuff (I have larger biceps and triceps) to get an accurate reading - they refused, ignored everything I said... and got a bonkers blood pressure reading. They insisted on me getting a primary care visit before they would fill the cavity. A month goes by, I cannot get an appointment. I tried to get it scheduled and was rather rudely dismissed by "Patrick" at the front desk when I called and explained that the tooth needed to be addressed. This was just before Christmas, it took me until mid February (nearly four months from the start) to get a new primary care dr. and a visit who said... the same thing every one of my doctors has ever said "Make sure they are using a right size cuff" I switched to another dentist closer to home - he filled the cavity last week and to quote him "You're lucky, I was barely able to fill this it may still need a root canal, we should watch this very closely" Go literally ANYWHERE ELSE

Dr. Beamer STRONGLY recommended invisalign, an expensive, time consuming treatment to straight my teeth (according to every other dentist I have ever seen my teeth are already perfectly straight). I had a lot of questions. Dr. Beamer was clearly not giving me straight answers - especially to the question of "do I really need this for the health of my teeth?"? When I did my own research at home it became clear she had left out critical information, like how long the treatment would last, and risks, and labor involved on my part (including having to wash retainers daily) etc. Since then, I went back to Turning Leaf Dental and saw a DIFFERENT dentist from their practice. I asked him "Do you think I need invisalign to straighten my teeth?" (he was unaware that Dr. Beamer had strongly recommended it). He said that my teeth were perfectly straight and that he does NOT recommend orthodontic treatment. So two dentists from the same practice gave very different treatment advice. This difference isn't a minor thing - it's the difference of (~$6000 + repeated visits + daily labor). Also, I CONSTANTLY receive marketing emails from them about how I should whiten my teeth and literally just now got a text 10 mins ago that Dr. Beamer is now certified to do botox and wants to help me reach my botox goals. My experience at this practice makes me feel they are more about $$$$ than quality dental care. I also constantly receive emails to rate them for $$$ on google / rate them to be entered into lotteries so I don't think their reviews are accurate on google.

That meant that I had to waste *more* time going through my history. Worryingly, the technician initially misrecorded multiple of my medications in dosage and name, not great for medical records. Zero signs of PPE in the office, none of the equipment was wrapped in plastic (dangerous since they were exposing myself and others to bodily fluids when taking X-rays in this way) and the 20 year-old X-ray machine looked especially poorly maintained. Left my skin tingling. Speaking of which, I had to pay +$100 for X-rays that were in no way necessary to what I was there for, I guess just padding the bill? The doctor himself was...fine, I guess. Wore his mask below his nose and told me nothing that I didn't already know about my condition. I will say he did provide me a pretty accurate estimate of how much my potential surgery would cost-except my insurance provider then gave me a different number that was almost $1,000 cheaper! The office is located on the second floor of a building with no elevator or wheelchair access. There are two flights of stairs to reach the second floor from either the front of the building or the rear of the building where the parking is located. While somewhat challenging for me now due to knee and hip issues, I can make it up the stairs using the handrail along the way. However, there may be a time for me in the future that the lack of accessibility will prompt me to change to a different practice.

The staff is absolutely amazing. They're all very sweet and understanding of your concerns. Everyone will go out of their way to calmly explain to you everything, from the procedures to even helping ease your anxiety and concerns. I only had a cleaning to day (and a very deep one as I hadn't been to the dentist in a long time) and I can confidently say that, even though it was a rough cleaning, I enjoyed it! It sounds weird but it's true! The hot rocks, lavender sheet, and warm pillow really helped comfort me and the music in the background was very relaxing. I really enjoyed my experience here and I never thought I could ever say that about a dentist's office. There is a long waiting list but if you're perseverant and positive, you can get in ahead of schedule! My appointment was supposed to be a year from now but I saw the email they usually send when there's an open spot and quickly replied to their message with my information, which I had typed down on a note in my phone so I could copy paste it quickly on their email message. If you don't do that, odds are someone else will get the appointment. The last time I tried, the appointment was filled within two minutes of having received the email. Dr. Rosie is very thorough and so far I have no complaints, luckily I don't have any kind of dental complications so I'm not sure how getting an appointment might be like if you had some kind of emergency, but I was able to get a couple of fillings done within a week of my initial cleaning appointment when we found the cavities. Heated neck pillow during the exam, and a warm towel to wipe your face after, it's the little things but hey, I'll take them over not having them!
