After several experiences in this office, I'm convinced that SMILES WEST (Los Angeles) operate like a used car lot. Example; So happy to see you come in for business, but not really caring about genuine service. Today, I came in to do my second half of my deep cleaning, I was told I needed before a crown could be placed on a root canal procedure that was left exposed for over 6 months. After I signed in, the office manager told me I was approved by my insurance to cover bridge work on a missing tooth. She told me that I was covered for bridge that had metal in it, but a porcelain one would be better and an additional cost. My deep cleaning nor my exposed root canal was NOW not their priority. As she indicated the cost was $1500, I was completely shocked. I was told, their office offered financing where there was no interest charged if I paid the cost within 18 months. My mind was consumed by the ever present attention to replace my missing tooth, as my eating discomfort took a back seat. For the next 15 minutes, it seems like all office personnel was focused on whether I got approved for the credit application to do my bridge work. Upon approval, I was swooped into the bridge prep work room to start, all the while I'm complaining about my discomfort from my exposed root canal work. The assistant kept reassuring me that she'll look at it, and see if she could remove some food stuck in it. It was never to happen, because they were rushing to complete the prep work before closing. I noticed before, upon my initial root canal work, it was rushed as well. As soon as I was so called finish, most of the personnel was gone, while the remaining personnel was rushing to clean up. Well this time was no different, as I was getting out the chair, you could swear there was a fire in the building; they rushed out so fast. Prior to getting out of the chair, I asked to use the bathroom and was directed to the lobby area. AFTER I GOT OUT, I was the lone person in a dark empty office. I WAS LOCKED IN!!!! I panicked at first, thinking maybe someone was left in the office back room, still working. But no, I was alone. I tried to open the door, by pushing the security button first, but it wouldn't budge. So I ran to receptionist desk to look for any button or sign to release the lock on the door. I FOUND 2 BUTTONS AND PUSHED BOTH. Upon pushing that security button by the front door.....I was free from dark loneliness and relieved . I'm not happy!!!! read more

The dental staff and receptionist were wonderful as well as the dentist. However, I went in for a service that should have had 0 copay, but by the time they added extra fees, they wanted 4000. The financial person made it sound like this was my insurance copay. I told them that I cannot afford this because I'm in graduate school. I left crying. When I got home, I reviewed my insurance plan and saw that this service had ZERO out of pocket expenses. So I called the office for clarification. The same financial person answered the phone. As it turns out, the "copay" was extra fees for upgrades in materials and a warranty which I did not want. Even though my insurance covered the service, they would not offer the service without their office's mandatory upgrades. The person told me I could go elsewhere. I thanked her for her time. After I hung up, I really felt victimized. This was a horrible experience and a valuable lesson to interview dental offices before assigning one's insurance to them. Had a cleaning here months ago and it was horrid. The dentist was rushed and left so her assistant finished. Should be free but charged me 300 for some final spray they coated on. I had cleaning in other place which was so much better and took longer since not rushing. Teeth feel cleaner than last time and zero charge. This office is just trying to exploit. read more

I had an unfortunate experience at the dental office. When I visited on February 21st, I was not greeted by the front staff, nor did the Doctor acknowledge me during my visit. I was suppose to receive an estimate of the treatment, but I never heard back From the office. It has now been over two week, and no follow-up communication has been made. In the meantime, I was in pain and decided to seek treatment elsewhere. The new dental office I visited was far more accommodating. And I was seen the next day. This place is horrible, the office managers, Kim and Denise are only there to see how much money they can make off of the patients. That's there job! It's disgraceful when I'm sitting in a waiting room full of Black people and to have a Hispanic women (Denice) get upset with me because I want to discuss the amounts of my "Active Treatment Plan". Maybe she was surprised that I could actually read. This company needs to do better in our community. You never get to speak to doctors about your care only front office people. Went to this dental office as a referral to my dentist through denti-cal. Their suppose to do a check up and give me an answer for my tooth pain, to what is scheduled to be done. However after the x-ray and check up, they also did teeth cleaning that wasn't scheduled. I just had my teeth cleaned by another dentist prior to visiting this office so they performed cleaning also. Easy to say there's nothing to be cleaned. They performed what they claimed cleaning and billed my medical. Found out medical did not pay them, however since they performed an unauthorized cleaning, this office screwed up my annual cleaning schedule through medical. Thanks smiles west for messing up my annual cleaning schedule and wasting my time visiting your office that did not provide any results. Also they don't like answering phone calls. I wouldn't recommend this place as it seemed far more important to upsell financing options around $7k than rather go through insurance! I have Dental health services (hmo) not the best insurance around but it is what I got from my employer... I had a fall and as a result had 1 of my tooth flapping around which needed urgent extraction, they did the X-rays and stuff and after waiting for more than an hour with excruciating pain and swelling in my mouth, they told me I had bone loss in my gums which needed sever treatment and needed 7 of my tooth extracted! Funny part is they told me upon arrival that that they are going to Stop business with DHS starting Jan1st & I'm like ok this is still Dec...after the doc left with a comprehensive plan of making me toothless and a $7k worth of plans for Tooth brace, the assistant comes over and says the Co-pay is going to be $235 for each tooth...I'm like wtf - I came in for 1 really painful tooth extraction which I pulled it out myself later on & here they were selling a mouthful of dreams for me....they clearly didn't wanna go the insurance route and wanted to make me pay for it.. Sorry I know it's a long review but thought had to share my 2 cents on it... This place constantly calls asking to reschedule my appointments because their doctors want to leave early for the day. Very inconvenient. Once or twice I understand, but it's been several times. My child has an 6 month appt for x rays and cleaning. When I declined x rays I was informed that the dental hygienist schedule was booked. As a parent I can decline if my child gets x rays or not (he had x rays at his primary dentist 3 months ago). His first dental appt with hygienist was not the best. Horrible. First, the dentist said like 2 sentences to me. Barely explained things to me. Which I find off. Secondly, billing... so ridiculous. I got a bill that came a week after their "due date". Dated a month prior. When I called, they said to call insurance to figure out why it wasn't paid. I did - told them what was the problem. No follow up on their part. I just kept receiving bills. I couldn't get ahold of billing. Third, on my initial appointment I paid for services that I never got because the dentist said I had to come back. This was my first time visiting this location. I would pass by it often for years (especially during the time it was called "Smile Care" ) but never stopped by. My husband and I decided to give them a shot. Parking was a breeze except the fact that the taco truck that's allowed to do business on the lot can make things complicated. I looked at the pictures that was posted for this location and turns out they have upgraded. I took a few photos myself. They are still in the middle of renovating because I notice employees bringing in dentist chairs and tables. This didn't impede on their services. I appreciate that they have a restroom for patients right there in the waiting room. Also I love the fact that they have movies and not infomercials playing on a big screen television, situated in such a way for everyone in the waiting room to see it. I was very impressed by how informative Darr was. He was one of the team members who gave us information on our visit and had us fill out the necessary paperwork. He was very polite and went out of his way to take care of us. Without us requesting him to do so, he spoke with the manager about our treatment and gave us the information we needed for our next visit. poor customer service. i gave 1 star but , in reality it should be zero. as you can see i am very disappointed. what i had done was had a temporary partial made for my front denture, teeth were pull, a mold of my upper gum were done. that's when the nightmare begin. first the molding didn't fit. second they tried to do adjustments that didn't work. third the partial started cracking and coming apart. fourth the inside of my mouth is sore as hell. i call the regional manager she said she will look into the situation, that was a week ago. she told me she will call me in 2 days, mine you that was last week monday or tuesday ( september 28 or 29 ). i been calling no response. i will keep calling. the regional manager name is natalie vasquez. all this work took place in a matter of 4 months. read more

I know I'm alone in feeling this way, but I really like going to the dentist. I like the clean feeling. I like how every dentist I've been to asks if I've had braces before (I haven't; I'm just lucky enough to have naturally straight teeth). I've been to lots of dentists because I moved a lot. This was the first bad experience I've ever had. And it wasn't just bad- it was god awful! The appt started on time, which I saw others complain about. But then the X-ray tech tried to sell me a tooth whitening for $260 after I said I wasn't interested. I just wanted a cleaning. Also, I told him I've seen Groupons for the same brand treatment for $59. Again, no thanks! Then as he's moving the bite wings around between X-ray shots, he tells he sees that I NEED braces! Wtf!? This guy doesn't even have a bachelor's degree and he's trying to make a diagnosis? Annoyed, I'm waiting in the dentist chair when a hygienist comes by and asks if he can help me. Am I sitting at a restaurant table? I thought they had a procedure. I said I'd just had X-rays. He asked why I was there and I said for a cleaning. He asked if I was having pain or discomfort. I said no, just needed a cleaning. He said he'd be my hygienist. Ok. He poked around my teeth and said he wanted to do a deep cleaning. Now, my insurance fully pays for a cleaning every 6 months- no copay. The hygienist wanted me to sign off on a $240 cleaning. I said I just wanted the cleaning covered by my insurance. He came back with another sheet saying i'd be paying $120 out of pocket. Again I told him I didn't want to sign this. I wanted the cleaning covered by my insurance! My gums showed no gingivitis, I didn't NEED a deep cleaning. They just wanted to sell me something! When the dentist came by she asked me if I was ok. I said ..yes? She said she was just trying to feel me out. I said I just wanted a cleaning. She asked if I was having any pain or discomfort. I told her no, seriously, I just wanted a cleaning. I've never felt hostility in a dentist office before this. As she's checking out my teeth, the weird X-ray tech decides to pop into my room, lean against the wall, and leer at me. But I'm glad he did this just in time to hear the dentist ask me (wait for it..) had I had braces before? Boom! He said "but look at her bottom teeth" and the dentist said they looked great. So Dr. technical college grad walked off. The. the disgruntled hygienist returned to do the regular cleaning. I should have seen this coming, but he showed no mercy. He nicked my gums again and again. I kept tasting my own blood. Finally he missed my tooth and drilled so deep into my gum that I jumped and yelled "PUHK!" I couldn't help it. He barely polished the rest of my teeth. I found rough spots with my tongue that he missed. Yuck. Ouch. What a miserable experience. Spare yourself. I'm going somewhere else in 6 months. Update: Just got my insurance statement. Surprise! They added some bs $70 charge not covered by the standard cleaning I agreed to. Guess I get to call these cheats tomorrow and ask what the hell an "Adj P-Diag Test" is. So annoyed. Update II: After a 20 minute phone call with the manager, it appears a charge was accidentally added for a cancer screening(?!) The manager removed this charge for me. So if you do make the mistake of going here, make sure you read your bill! Update III: Seriously. So 6 months after my worthless experience at this dentist office, I get a voicemail "reminding" me about my appointment in 2 days. WHAT? They automatically schedule you for another round of ridiculousness in 6 months without telling you. I didn't pick a time or date, I was just scheduled. No notice. I did actually take the time to call them back to say there's no way I'm coming back. And what a lame way to make money- by rescheduling someone as soon as their insurance will cover the next visit.. but not schedule it with the patient?! I told her to check the Yelp reviews for her office if she wants a good laugh. read more

I've been through unncessary drama at this office: - calculating my bill wrong - not charging my insurance for the services (in a timely manner, which meant that I had to cover it since I no longer had the same insurance company) -VERY LONG wait times. What's the point of being on-time for an appt. Nobody is seen right away. And if you are (don't get to happy), they do some admin stuff and send your ass right back to the wait area. - cancelling my appt and not even notifying me, or changing the days that certain doctors operate. Who the f*ck wants to make a fun drive to Manchester and Normandie?? yay -__- -If you want braces, make sure you know what day the ortho doctor will be in. They are totally crippled without this Dr in the office. No adjustments/tightening, no questions, no making ortho appts in the office. That was the dumbest thing I ever heard of. My insurance recently changed and I was assigned here. I've been sitting here for over an hour. No one has come out to say please fill out these forms or since you were 15 minutes late, the wait will be x longer. There haven't been many people who have been seen this morning. Only two appear to have actually gone back to see the Dentist. Also, I didn't know the Doctors ethnicity. This matters to me because in my exp sometimes foreign born physicians don't fully comprehend you or your issues. They also seem to rush and be a bit pushy. I personally prefer someone who speaks English clearly and has a full understanding of customer service and bed side manner. This guy....I'm not sure what his deal is. The staff seem to be just standing or sitting around. This is what happens when insurance companies get bilked by low performing offices. Honestly the only reason they even got 1 star is because of their receptionist Dar. I've been coming here for years now so apparently last year they switched management which didn't concern me because the staff knows me but I just recently went to get a bottom state plate put in which I paid for almost 2 years ago but every time I went in I got the run around so between missing my own appointments and waiting for them I never received it 2 crowns I paid for I barely got almost 2 years later and because Dr Julius is no longer there they are refusing to give me my bottom plate when I asked them to call her to verify that although i signed for it please check with the carrier because it was taken right back from me and per her notes after my signature she clearly stated that it didn't fit well that a re'imp had to be done and it needed to be remade so long story short I've had to call my insurance company get a lawyer contact the dentist who verified that it was never given to me and as of next week if they cant get in contact with the carrier my lawyer will be filling a lawsuit against them and reporting them to the state board and the fraud department of insurance claims all because they don't want to do the foot work because management switched over smh. Wouldn't recommend them until they get a new office manager who's willing to do her job correctly with less attitude read more
