I rate this restaurant a utter 2 only because of the certain circumstances that continued and happened to disappoint me and my family, not to mention coworkers when we met for a buisness meeting because we needed to discuss recent statistics of our buisness which included the rates of sellers for our very important products, you should check them out! We usually stop and eat inside The Smiling Moose whenever we are in Gillette. Today we asked for it "to go". We spend almost $47 on lunch. The steakhouse burger's mushrooms were way undercooked as well as the crosscut fries. All three burgers were underwhelming, tasteless, greasy! Not sure what is going on here today but both the toilet paper and paper towel dispensers were empty. Lots of it on the shelves. The place felt dirty. Not sure what's going on here. :/ read more

Very poor service, staff was loudly complaining about the manager having g called out sick. They were so angry about it that our food was just terrible. There were only a couple of people working and we were there at lunch rush so the two employees were slammed- but the loud complaining wasn't helping at all. They were more focused on complaining to each other than they were on buckling down and getting caught up. read more

Their new "BurgerSear" portion of the menu is not good. Overpriced burgers, no combo meals or drinks included so you pay $12 for a messy greasy burger, $3 for 8 little fries, and wait 20 minutes after other people coming in after you get their food first. The food itself isn't horrible. It's the service and prices. Tons of other places in Gillette to get a great burger and pay less for more. read more

On May 6th 1937, passenger airship LZ 129, or better known as Hindenburg ignited causing 36 people to lose their lives. On September 12th, 2020, I had a hankerin' for a BLT as my girlfriend and I drove from Grand Teton towards South Dakota. I hardly had to convince her to make the stop as she loves snackin'. We found some options in Gillette, the first being 20 minutes from closing. This was the second option. Just like the Hindenburg, my expectations were high but came towering down in flames. The lack of meat and taste was something I've only imagined in nightmares. The turkey was disgusting and barely present. The avocado tasted like my big aunt sue sat on it to warm it up. The bread was soggy. My girlfriend took 2 bites before she discarded her wrap. And don't even get me started on the stomach pains and heartburn that transpired from my horrible decision making. The people were nice though. All in all, 3.5/10 would do it again. I learned from my mistake, I should've went with my gut and ordered the BLT instead of the Dude Ranch. RIP Hindenburg. read more

I have generally found this store excellent, but was disappointed in quality and quantity today. Their jumbo chicken wings for $16.50 looked like they had been fried and refried several times. I urge Smiling Moose to use fresher wings. The staff said the 'Mighty' version ($12.19) of their Ridgeline Pastrami sandwich contains double the amount of meat in the regular version ($8.69). But it looked no different from the regular version I have ordered before, and definitely had less meat than the pastrami sandwiches in New York City, where I am based. My order today was not a good value. The two stars are for polite staff, who filled my order promptly. read more

We found this place on a trip to Yellowstone. Rather than stop for junk at a drive-thru, we decided to stop here. It seemed fairly busy in the dining room for a 2:00 pm lunch. There was only one couple ordering in front of us. When we got up there, the cashier was not all friendly. There was no hello or welcome...just a blank stare until we ordered. The people who brought us our food, however, were very nice. It came out relatively quick. They had plenty of vegetarian options which was nice for my kids. I ordered the Wildfire Chicken sandwich and my husband ordered the Thai chicken wrap. Both were decent, nothing out of the world amazing, but much better than drive-thru. I needed something different as we were traveling cross country. Did a little research as we neared this town. The name and ratings stood out. Walked in to an empty diner but all four of the employees were busy scrubbing down everything behind the counter. That's what I like to see. Cleaning! It did remind me of a Panera but less pricey and better tasting food! I got "the perfect pair" the caesar salad and the tomato bisque soup. Oh yum! So much flavor, just the right kick and served with oyster crackers. The salad was fresh tomatoes that really melted in my mouth. Hubby got the Ruben and let me try it. Oh yum again! I am now a fan. I hope to see another moose as we travel. Everything was so clean, even the restrooms. Everyone was kind and smiling and working hard. I'd be back on a heart beat. Always delicious, never a bad experience. They remember me, like Norm at Cheers...Not really, but there is one guy that always remembers my usual order. Sometimes he even reminds me when they have the soup I like or forget to omit/add something from my salad. Love that! I wish I knew his name so I could add it here. The Creekside Greek salad (no feta, medium dressing) is my favorite. So yummy. Tangy and good for you. I also really like the chicken and wild rice soup. It isn't on the menu every day, but it's so yummy it should be. I also really like the m&m cookies. They have one of thkse big red coke drink machines (the fancy push button ones). They have diet Gingerale, which is a bonus. ;) They are always nice, friendly and welcoming. Restaurant and bathrooms are alwahs clean. Tip:. The past two original Mo's sandwiches I ordered were basically thrown together, sloppy, drenched with way too much mayonnaise (or whatever the white sauce is). This is the second time I have came in for a fresh meal , and then walked out. The employee at the front counter was very rude. No hello, no Welcome . He just stared at me. My husband had the buckin bronco beef - which he enjoyed. We also got a side of the spicy chicken enchilada which was pretty good as well. The Smiling Moose Deli is relatively new to the area. We've had the traditional Subway and a Quizno's, so this was a nice change of taste. Not only are hot or cold sandwiches available, but salads too; I really like how you can choose exactly what you want in your salad. They are always fresh and good! If you can get past the poor customer service, the sandwiches aren't bad. They are a little above average. The tomato basil soup was very oily and not tasty. When we arrived, I smiled and said hello and the young man working the cash register greeted me with a weak smile. He went on to stare at us awkwardly until we were ready to order, as if it was unusual for someone to look at the menu before ordering. My boyfriend ordered his sandwich without veggies. When he received it with veggies, they took it back to the counter to pick them off. Then, when we sat down to eat, another worker found it necessary to start wiping all the tables around us and sweeping under them, screeching the chairs against the tile floor all the while. At one point, the broom almost hit my boyfriend's feet. We were the only customers in the entire place. When we entered, all the workers were hanging out in the kitchen area...so I don't know why it was suddenly urgent to clean this area and make it very difficult for my boyfriend and I to converse. It was such preposterous service that we even checked to see if we happened to be in near closing time... We weren't. I won't go back. read more

I understand COVID-19 may cause delays, but it took them over half an hour to prepare one turkey wrap and one grilled cheese sandwich. Worse than that, they kept lying by saying it was almost ready or "ready to be bagged," only for us to have to wait another 10 minutes. The food preparers were wearing masks, but their noses were exposed and they kept wiping them at the back of their hands. If you're traveling, steer well clear of this place. read more
