Tim Smith is the owner of this company and he is a wonderful human being. This is how relationships begin. When you meet this man and see his smile and he shakes your hand, you now you are off to a solid start. Honest, ethical, caring, responsible and fair. That is what we should expect from a good Contractor and it can be so lacking these days. Tim came over and did the initial assessment for an issue I had with a mechanical awning at my house on a Sunday! Amazing! One of his Handy Men, Andrew, came out within the next 3 days and ended up doing the work. A job I feared would take 4-5 hours was done in less than 1 hour because Andrew figured out how to fix the issue by getting creative. His fix not only saved time but also money. He worked efficiently and did not lollygag just to run up the hourly bill. So grateful to find a great company with great employees who say what they mean, show up to your home on time and get the job done efficiently. They were great in helping us maneuver through the labyrinth of regulations to build a new dock that required some design innovation to meet code and get us the look we were hoping for. They worked with the HOA architectural review board to come up with solutions to some design problems and were very professional. A couple of months back we had a bad faucet leak in the kitchen. Such things always happen over the weekend when calling a handyman is hard. There are painful wait times that seem even longer when ur home is getting flooded. Tim and his team of professionals are so quick in responding. He accommodated  us right away and within a day he had someone over to the home to fix the leak. All was well but few days later we had another issue and again Tim's team was so quick in getting that resolved too. I cannot stress enough on the service we got from them. Smith and Company did a fabulous job on my 1938 house. The work was extensive: complete remodel of the kitchen and 2 bathrooms, new closets and flooring in the bedrooms, built-in bookcases, new heating/air conditioning throughout the house, moving walls, widening doorways, rewiring, replumbing, reinforcement of the basement ceiling. Tim was professional, approachable, and collaborative. He's a perfectionist with great technical and aesthetic skills and an eye for detail. His standards are reflected in the quality of his workers. Ervin (the on-site leader) and the crew excelled at their crafts/trades, were uniformly hardworking, polite, and cleaned up after themselves. Manny impressed with his beautiful custom cabinetry. Samantha kept things humming along at the office. The work took a little longer than expected, due to problems found after demolition that had to be addressed and changes in the scope of work. However I can't complain as the guys worked consistently 5 days a week every week until everything was done and fully permitted. I'm loving my 'new home'. read more

Their website suggests that no job is too small. Well, this is true. Tim not only took my call on a Saturday but within a couple hours had arranged to have his trusted employee of 16 years, Jose, come meet me at 10 am Sunday morning. Tim quickly extracted the requirements of the job while still being personable. He did a very good job of setting expectations. The followup was relayed efficiently via text messaging. Although this turned out to be a very small job, it gave me a great opportunity to experience Jose's timeliness, efficiency, and solid work ethic. While I listened carefully, admittedly I didn't initially think much of Jose's praises for Tim's ability to deliver on promises reliably with a high standard of quality. However, later that evening, one of Tim's office staff recognized my name and reached out to say hello. She also raved about Tim's work. Seriously, how often do employees openly rave about their boss' work? I did not solicit any of these comments. I think this says a lot. At a minimum, Tim's got a happy crew. read more

This review is a little overdue! My family was extremely pleased with everyone on the team and the work they did to give us a new kitchen (countertops, cabinets, appliances, electrical, plumbing & flooring). Tim (owner), Maggie (office manager/organization ninja), Gus (on-site manager) and individual team members were all fantastic! Tim has an incredible and unmatched eye for detail and design, especially for old Berkeley craftsman style homes. He also has really good local contacts for both materials and labor when you need work that his group doesn't handle in-house. Tim helped us figure out a game plan and set expectations which was important given that this was our first contractor job. Maggie kept us in the loop every step of the way whenever we had general questions about the project. Gus was on-site to make sure the team was on-track and was immediately responsive whenever we had a specific technical question (as in, within the hour responsive). Of course it's easy to say nice things when everything goes smoothly, but we did have a few hiccups here and there (to be expected) and that's when the team really stood out from the pack. You want a team that will be there with you in good times and in bad! Gus always made himself available to us and our concerns were immediately addressed. I had previously heard so many horror stories from friends and family members working with other contractors, but we had nothing but a positive experience all-around. Lastly, Tim guarantees his work for a year which is wonderful and just another sign of the amazing customer service provided by this great company!! read more

My fiancé and I are in the process of huge stressful remodel job on the new home we just bought. Unexpectedly, for safety concerns, we need to rebuild a deck that had to be removed due to a hidden fire and also foundation work that needed to be done on our home. We are in the estimate gathering phase right now and I absolutely loved meeting Tim. He showed up right on time and was extremely personable. Tim has years of experience in landscape design, home renovation and handyman work and it honestly shows. Tim was extremely knowledgeable and offered us plenty of tips and suggestions on things that weren't even deck related. You can tell he is a hard working guy who knows his stuff. We are incredibly overwhelmed with this new house, but Tim really put us at ease and talked us through the project and showed us how it would be done. Currently, we are still in limbo regarding the deck, but I will not lose Tim's card. I plan to call on him when we get to the interior of the house and also keep him on file as things come up because his company does handy man work too! It's hard to find a contractor who's trustworthy, but with Tim you can tell just from meeting with him that he cares about your home too and he believes in doing a good, lasting job. But Smith & Co had the proper licencing, Better Business record, and good Yelp reviews. Maggie, in the office, was sympathetic to my fears about a crack in ceiling, asked for photos, and Tim looked at them, assuring me about safety. Gus then came out to look at needed work in kitchen and living room, explained what was required and how long, plus answered all my questions. Soon after, I got a professional, clear contract. The work began soon after. Maggie responded promptly to my few questions. Gus and Noberto did quality work, were neat, pointed out a few things that were handled perfectly, and explained the progress every day.
