Can someone help me understand why when we ordered a BBQ sandwich value pack without slaw on the sandwich, and clarified it with the person taking the order, that we received a BBQ sandwich with slaw? I'd also be interested in knowing why we were asked to drive around to the front to wait for our order, which was simply 2 BBQ sandwich value packs, but ended up waiting an additional 10 minutes while orders, which were obviously full meals, for the 2 cars behind us were being prepared. Is it really too much to ask that orders be correct and delivered promptly when the restaurant is not overly busy? read more

Man everything here is good! The chicken off the hook fantastic. the fried shrimp wonderful just melt-in-your-mouth crispy little nuggets of goodness. I have been here 3 years and never tried Smithfield's under the assumption it was just another crappy chain like all the rest here. I COULD NOT BE MORE WRONG!!!! The restaurant was immaculate, staff super friendly and all very professional and attentive to the customers and the cleanliness of the restaurant. Who I believed was the mgr was very attentive to our table as was another employee ( and this is not really a table service type place) the food was very fresh, hot and tasty as it should be. Prices were very reasonable. It was so good I had to tell the mgr. The Colonel Sanders is dead to me after eating here ( yes I know he's already dead) we had the dark meat fried chicken, fries, cole slaw and what I thought was an amazing Brunswick stew ( never had the stew before) we will be back. Generally we are not fast foodies but this was probably the best one I've ever eaten at. They really put the independent and chain sit down restaurants to shame. If you've ever been hesitant to try Smithfield's don't be just go I can guarantee you will not be disappointed, unless you are some sort of freak of nature. Happy dining!!! read more

Service was very friendly, even had an employee carrying around ice tea pitchers to refill your glass. The barbecue is good, as are the hush puppies. I didn't care for the vinegar based add on sauce, but mixed with a little ketchup and hot sauce, it turned out pretty good. But actually, the pulled pork all by itself was worth eating. I use to love Smithfields, but not sure what's changed in the past couple of years. Everytime I order brunswick stew its watery and full of bones. And they last time I ordered chicken strips and got so sick that I literally cannot eat or be around chicken anymore. The fried shrimp is as small as a dime. Any time I travel and go through Leland I always stop at the Leland Smithfields. I have always enjoyed the food, the smiling faces, and the customer service. I was in there today, and there were no smiling faces, everyone in there looked new, and miserable. There was an older lady complaining about everything. The guy who I believe to be in charge was cussing and acted like he didn't know what he was doing. I know it's hard to get good help now adays, but I never thought this establishment would settle for miserable people. The food was mediocre, the bbq didn't even taste good, it had no flavor. I am always on the hunt for good pork barbeque. I had the pulled pork platter. It was pretty good, tender, juicy. I have high standards for barbecue. This place provided good barbecue but not great. I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for good barbeque and are in the area. It wasnt' the best I've ever had though, and I think Wilmington can do better. During the first week of our Hurricane Florence recovery, Smithfield's was generous enough to open their dining room to about a dozen of us field technicians from Spectrum. We had been working long hours and in need of a place to sit down and grab a warm bite and Smithfield's did a fantastic job accommodating us. Our server, a young man who's next ten years will likely be spent in grade school, did an amazing job! He treated us all with a smile and was prompt and attentive to our group. This may have been his first (and only) day on the job, but he provided better customer service than the majority of "professional" servers that I interact with at local eateries. Went in there to try the bbq and chicken. The sandwich I got was not bbq it tasted like oven baked pork drowned in vinegar. The chicken was fried and pretty good.. Although the service was great and the waitress was on top of my drink. A bit pricy for the portions and misleading on the bbq part. That truly is not bbq whatsoever. We stopped in here for lunch yesterday on our way up to Wilmington while driving around to various antique shops. It looks like a new building and it was very clean and spacious inside. I liked the wash sink near the front counter so you can wash your hands after eating the fried chicken. I had the jumbo chicken tenders with the potato salad, baked beans and hush puppies. The chicken was very moist and tender however in my opinion I thought it needed more spices, I didn't like the potato salad because I think it had relish in it, The baked beans were good but I thought the hush puppies needed more flavor. read more

The five stars are for the staff. These people are the nicest, most accomodating staff that you could find in a restaurant. They go over and beyond to ensure you are happy. Hush puppies are good! Shrimp is very very small and tasteless. Chicken was very good. Pulled pork had none to very little sauce.

First time here. The chicken tender sandwich was good, but I was thinking it would have some mayo, lettuce and tomato on it. But rather, it was just plain. Maybe this is a Southern thing to have it plain as this the second time I got a chicken sandwich served without anything. Overall, it was enjoyable. Very large fast food restaurant.
