*update May 17, 2026 The local manager reached out and I'm impressed. No excuses, but an apology and they are sending a gift card. Here's what I value--old school customer service--I will try them again when we travel that way because they reached out to do the right thing. I'm hopeful and will give them another try. The folks there were frantically trying to fill orders and I'll give them credit. However, when we picked up our order (it wasn't ready on time), it was wrong, awful quality and ended up being inedible. The pulled pork lacked flavor, the portions of the sides was small and the Brunswick Stew was nasty. And I love Brunswick Stew. The pecan pie was some kind of gross blob of gel that tastes nothing like pecan pie. I'm so utterly disappointed. Wasn't as crispy as I like and could see red on the inside Husband like his BBQ sandwich and hush puppies Enjoyed the beans but the portion was small The cashier didn't seem enthusiastic about having to work. The lady talk at brought out our food was very friendly and didn't bring our drink...said the cashier should have given it to us at the counter. We for here after 1 and there were not a lot of people but all the tables were dirty but they had a bucket of cleaner and wipes out and people were wiping down their own tables to sit. I recently decided to revisit Smithfield Barbecue after a few years, especially with a buy one entree, get one free coupon I received in the mail. When I arrived, the line was quite long, but it moved quickly. Their intercom was having some issues as it was very low, I could barely hear the person repeat my order back to me. The cashier at the window was very friendly, which I appreciated. However, I noticed that the plates were a bit messy. There was sauce on top of them...whoever packed the order had messy hands. When I opened the bags, both portions of coleslaw had slid under the chicken. I suspect this happened when the cashier handed me the bag, as it was held sideways. I also found a french fry in the slaw on one of the plates. I ordered the chicken platter (dark meat), which includes two pieces of dark meat and two sides. I had the baked beans and coleslaw for both. The chicken was really moist and crispy, and the coleslaw was crunchy and just right! The baked beans were tasty, although I'm not a huge fan of pork; I was surprised to find shredded pork mixed in, as this was my first time ordering the baked beans. Overall, I would rate my experience a 3.5 out of 5. I deducted points mainly for presentation, as I tend to be a bit OCD. The food was just so so! I had a combination shrimp and pulled bbq. The majority of my shrimp were tiny balls of batter. Very disappointed. The pulled bbq was very tasty. My wife had the white meat chicken basket. It's a no backer for her. Overall I cannot recommend. read more

This place was the bomb! We stopped by for a quick bite while on the road. Cleanliness was a 5- there's a hand washing sink at door so patrons could wash their hands on entry--phenomenal! Every staff person in the place was cleaning. Service -- another 5. The food was delivered to our table by the time we sat. I was in error when I said this restaurant was affiliated with the Chinese government. That is not true, but I can't figure out how to delete my review. It's another chain with the same name that is owned and operated by the CCP. Sorry. Smithfield in Nashville, NC is an independent restaurant. It is really popular. It's fried chicken is yummy. It's always busy and the drive thru is always packed with cars, so it must be good! The bathrooms are clean and nice. Parking and lighting are good. Dining room is large and clean and there is a TV blasting away on the wall. Service is quick and friendly and there is a Murphy's cheap gas station next door! It's a great stop for dinner on the way to your beach weekend! Also right in there: Walmart and Food Lion! read more

Couldn't decide what I wanted and ended up here. Went thru drive thru and noticed as the car was ordering in front of me 2 thighs and fries for $4.99 I thought that was a good deal. I asked young lady and she assisted me with placing that order. I ended up ordering a pecan pie and it's from Sara Lee which was good. This place was a pleasant surprise to find on our last road trip. The menu is simple and of course, revolves around their delicious fried chicken. We all had chicken plates and sampled all the sides. I really liked the bbq baked beans and hush puppies. There's no doubt, this is a meal you where you'll need to go "hands on". At this location, they even had a sink/hand washing station in the main dining area! The chicken was tender inside and had a crunchy, crispy exterior - just the way it should be. The prices are very reasonable and I think you'd be hard pressed to find anything to take issue with here. Staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean. They had plenty of seating, including a number of booths. Lots of parking and it's an easy in/out type of situation here. I've heard a lot about Smithfield's but had never been until just now, and I was missing out! The staff were super friendly and kind, our food was fresh and hot and served quickly, and it was delicious. I'm a big fried chicken guy and it was great. The fries were really good, as were the hush puppies - which were softer and sweeter than most. Inside was clean and well kept, and if the building isn't new it is well maintained. read more

Was once a favorite restaurant but now is a big disappointment. I ordered carry out...slaw (tasteless with large chunks of the cabbage core ) barbecue (dry; it had to be smothered in red sauce to make it edible) AND Brunswick stew....(very watery; it seems they are trying to stretch the servings )......$29 later and I could not be more disappointed ! I can't say enough nice things. The staff was amazing. The food was great. We needed a place to seat 40 people and offer a reasonably priced dinner. Not only were they willing but they also allowed us to order from the catering menu and dine in. The staff was super helpful and accommodating. The stew is a must! My first visit was the Saturday of the 4th of July with my family. The food, service and the ambiance was outstanding. The manager (Mr. Greg Jones) and staff were patience with me in my selection from the menu. This is very important to a senior such as myself. Working in food service in past and the fact that Smithfield's is one of my favorites go to. This is not up to the standards. I can tell the grease needs to be changed. The dining area clean but place was empty. Bathroom dirty. Customer service was cordial. So this my first bad review I'm leaving for a Smithfield's franchise. #11/2022 This is actually 4.5 stars but I'm giving the benefit of the doubt with the full bar of five. Because I drive a truck a lot of smithfields chicken and barbecue locations are not what I call truck friendly so I haven't hit one up for a long time. Happened to be cruising by en- route to Wilson North Carolina to the Bridgestone/Firestone tire plant and I saw Lowe's with a whole pile of trucks allowed to park off to the side and I saw Smithfield's. And don't ask me how it knew but all of a sudden my belly started instantly growling so I HAD go park and walk on over to make it happy. Upon first walking in you noticed it has what I call a cafeteria style dining room setting very large compared to some Smithfield's I've been to in the past. There's also a hand washing station when you first walk in there's also a sink in the can but if you want to wash your hands and sanitize up as you walk in the door it's there for the public I found that interesting but kind of cool. The other reason I'm giving the full bar of stars is how clean it was when I walked in very impressed all the tables were wiped down somebody walked out and the girl working wiped it right down as soon as they left. The can was nice and clean what was surprising was if it's messy there's a little switch you flip and they come in and clean it immediately this one definitely takes a lot of pride and cleanliness. Last year they had a couple of write-ups on Google I saw that however were I guess you could say dirty tables and a whole lot more but they've really made a 360 from what I can see when I was in here. The employees were very cordial I was greeted when I walked in had a few minutes to look at what I wanted decided being the glutton I am to get the full pig meal and went with the combination: pulled pork Carolina style of course which is very vinegary but yummy. They automatically give you six hush puppies and I went with the baked beans and french fries for my two sides. Ask for two chicken legs the dark meat to go with the combination pulled pork they gave me two legs but they also tossed the thigh on there I didn't need it but the pig I am I ate it LOL in fact I ate everything. Now I'm beyond full But thank you for some great service great food I have no complaints at all this is a very good Smith Field if I'm in the Rocky Mount area I won't hesitate to come in and get my eat on again. We have tried chicken and bar-b-q, the chicken is the best we've ever had and the bar-b-q is vinegar based, NC style, so if your from Tn as we are it's different bar-b-q than we were raised on. The food at this place is absolutely delicious and the customer service is even better! I drive through Rocky Mount on I95 a few times a year to visit my mother in Leland, NC. Not only that, my mother and her side of the family are from Emporia, VA but I've never been to this place. On 12/29/22 I was on my way to spend NYE at my moms and I wanted something good to eat, instead of a typical fast food spot. I googled bbq because I was looking for another spot in all honesty but once I saw the reviews for this place I gave it a shot. I can't think of the wonderful manager (he gave me a card and I misplaced it) but he was extremely helpful. As a first timer here, he offered small samplings of the menu and I loved every single item! I ordered the platter that came with everything (fried chicken, bbq, slaw, french fries, hush puppies). It was all fresh, hot and delicious. Oh and that sweet tea was everything I knew it would be. There is nothing like southern sweet tea! It was so good that on my way back home I stopped using the drive through and ordered a bbq/slaw sandwich. Yup, they have a drive through as well y'all!!! Did get staff to wipe down a couple tables but would not advise eating in, guess they thought the 6 people in line wanted take out. We always stop at this location when traveling to and from Myrtle Beach. I think the chicken is wonderful and the potato salad and slaw is great. Hush puppies are very good.
